Raymond T. Shay
OCALA, Fla. — Raymond T. Shay, 90, a former dairy farmer and resident of Roses Brook, Hobart, N.Y., passed away in Ocala, Fla., on July 26, 2001.
Mr. Shay was a veteran and officer of the United States Army serving during World War II under General Patton (69th Signal Battalion) in the European Theater.
Mr. Shay was born in Layton, N.J., and lived many years in Plainfield, N.J., before moving to Roses Brook.
He served as president of Hobart Local Bulk Eastern Milk Producers Association and was a member of the South Kortright Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Shay and wife, Mildred, moved to Ocala, Fla., in 1969.
He was farm manager for Dr. Edward Wiest for 15 years before retirement.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala and he and his wife (who survives him) have been residents at Surrey Inn in Ocala for the past six years.
Also surviving him are three daughters and two sons, Elizabeth Austin (Frederick) of Plainfield, Iowa, Barbara Salness (Lloyd) of Bradenton, Fla., Grace Scheidegger (Ralph) of Bellevue, Wash., Bruce Guttridge of Longmont, Colo., and William Shay (Roxanne) of Newark, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Harold Guttridge of Ocala, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at Hiers Funeral Home in Ocala, Fla., on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at 2 p.m.
George A. Saville
MARYLAND — George A. Saville, 66, of Maryland, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1934, in Locke, the son of George and Jennie (Hares) Saville.
George was a United States Navy veteran serving from 1952 to 1956.
He was a member of the Laurens American Legion Post 1688.
George was an area resident for 40 years. He at one time owned and operated the Midway Diner in Maryland, and also was a manager at WT Grants.
He is survived by his longtime friends, Bill Carvin and Wesley Osborne; as well as other family members that live out of the area.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Mac Cracken, pastor of the Word of Faith Fellowship, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Maryland Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.
Dorothy A. Evans
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Dorothy A. Evans, 80, of Prospect Street, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 8, 2001, in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home in Ilion.
She was born on Feb. 9, 1921, in St. Johnsville, daughter of the late Eugene and Mabel Moyer Snyder.
A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.
On Jan. 31, 1947, she married Everett A. Evans in the Presbyterian Church in Richfield Springs, a loving union of 45 years until his passing on July 19, 1992.
For 10 years, Mrs. Evans worked for the General Electric Co. in Utica and then for eight years with the Pic & Pic Store in Richfield Springs, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs.
Surviving her are four daughters, Trudy Evans, June Harvey and her husband, Gary, all of Pasadena, Texas, Linda Gravelding and her husband, Joseph, of Deer Park, Texas, Barbara Olsen and her husband, Kenneth, of Westford; three sisters, Ruth Owen, Ida Berry and Edith Suhocki, all of Richfield Springs; seven grandchildren, Christy and Billy Armstrong, Brendon Clements, Heath Harvey, Jennifer and Jill Gravelding and Kenneth Olsen Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Alec and Alyissa Armstrong, Kyle and Caitlyn Fletcher and Paige Harvey; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Emery, Alfred and Alvin Snyder; and three sisters, Marjorie Griffis, Hazel Snyder and Pearl Waldruff.
There are no calling hours.
Services in Crown Hill Memorial Park in Kirkland, will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Vincent Fuller
SOMERS POINT, N.J. — Vincent Stuart "Stu" Fuller, 83, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at the Presbyterian Home in West Chester, Pa.
Stuart was born in Otego but spent most of his life in Havertown, Pa., until retiring from the Bulletin, when he then moved to Somers Point.
Stuart was a graduate of Glen-Nor High School and was a World War II veteran.
He was a world traveler, who had been to both the North and South poles, and an avid bridge player.
Beloved son of Gladys and Vincent Fuller; he is survived by a son, Eric; two grandsons, Robert Fuller and David Fuller; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Audrey Martin of Otego.
Interment will be Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Otego Evergreen Cemetery at 10 a.m.
Marilyn L. Lange
WORCESTER — Marilyn L. "Mitzie" Lange, 68, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at her home in Worcester.
She was born Nov. 3, 1932, in Glen Rock, N.J., the daughter of George and Louise (Kiel) Schreyer.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Lange, whom she married on Oct. 29, 1950; a daughter Peggy Southworth of Worcester; a son, John and his wife ,Debra, Lange of Worcester; three grandchildren, April Tompkins and Matthew and Gregory Lange, all of Worcester; a sister, Eleanor Kelling of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, Lowell Schreyer of Etowah, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, twin brother, Theodore, and a grandson, Jeremy Tompkins.
Mitzie was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmondville. She was also a member and past president of the Worcester American Legion Auxiliary.
She worked for 29 years as an aide for the Worcester Central School. She loved children. She was especially fond of the kindergarten classes. Every year on Flag Day, she would give each student a flag, and during the week of the letter "I", she would make homemade ice cream with them.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Aug. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the E. J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester, with a Worcester American Legion Auxiliary service at 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmondville, with the Rev. Gary Edmister, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in memory of her grandson, Jeremy Tompkins, to the education fund of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmondville, the awards fund at Worcester Central School or to Catskill Area Hospice.
Funeral arrangements are by E. J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St. in Worcester.
Mary Joy Packer
ONEONTA — Mary Joy (Gioia) Packer, 87, of Oneonta, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
She was born on March 6, 1914, the daughter of Carmen A. and Anna Marie (Volpe) Gioia.
She married Harold "Skinny" Packer on June 27, 1941, in Oneonta. He died on Aug. 3, 1983.
For most of her life Mary was a homemaker, except for a period of time during World War II when she worked at Scintilla in Sidney.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church.
Mary was fond of gardening, knitting, sewing, crocheting and cooking. She especially enjoyed the senior bus trips, where she made many friends.
She is survived by her children, R. Carver Palmer Jr., and his wife, Madolyn, of Oneonta, Mary Ann James and her husband, Reuben, of Oneonta, and Rannata Packer and her friend, Gerald French of Oneonta; her grandchildren, Randy Palmer, Sandra Rudebush, Carla Alnis, Kevin F. James, Kathleen F. Gier, Airman Sean C. James, Ann K. James and Michael Zoeller; as well as six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters and a brother, Jane Rhody of Bayside, Sister Florence Joy, RSM, of Oneonta, Angeline Nielsen of Oneonta and Michael Joy and his wife, Dawn, of Oneonta; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Emilio (Mel) and Anthony Joy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Oneonta.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home in Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oneonta Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.

Charlotte Westcott
UNADILLA — Charlotte F. Westcott, 79, of Unadilla, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born July 24, 1922, in Charlotte, N.C., the daughter of the late Dr. Albion and Veda (Allen) Farmer.
She was married to Arthur E. Westcott on Aug. 20, 1940, in McGraw. Arthur predeceased her on July 4, 1973.
She was a graduate of Unadilla Central School, in the Class of 1940.
At one time she was an employee of the former Marine Midland Bank of Unadilla and for a time was employed as a sales clerk for the former Casual Shop of Unadilla.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Unadilla and a former member of the Unadilla Women's Club.
Charlotte is survived by her sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Elizabeth Westcott of Unadilla, William Westcott of Oneonta, and Arthur Westcott Jr. and Harvey Westcott, both of Binghamton; her sisters, Veda Bryant of Oneonta and Pauline Mattice of Sidney; her brothers, Kenneth Farmer of Murphy, N.C., and Paul Farmer of Oneonta; her grandchildren, Carolyn, James, Thomas and Samuel; her great-grandchildren, Christina, Samantha, Morgann and Cody; also several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Marion Hickok and Laura Eddy; and her brothers, Albion Farmer and Raymond Farmer.
Private funeral services for the family will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at the Westcott Funeral Home in Unadilla, with the Rev. Allen L. Presby, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Unadilla, officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home in Unadilla on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthur E. Westcott Memorial Fund of the Unadilla Community Foundation, care of Charter One Bank, 70 Main St., Unadilla, N.Y. 13849.

Elsa M. Schneider
STUART, Fla. — Elsa M. Schneider died on June 16, 2001, at the age of 95, following a long illness.
Although Elsa had resided in Stuart, Fla., for the past several years, she was born in Middlefield, N.Y., on March 10, 1906.
She attended school in Hartwick Seminary and spent her childhood on the family farm on Burke Hill.
Elsa lived for many years in Elmsford, N.Y., before returning home with her husband, Albert, to Round Top Game Farm on Burke Hill.
Elsa is survived by two daughters, Barbara M. Camire of Stuart, Fla., and Evelyn Dare Rosenburg of Tamarac, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will he held on Aug. 19, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. at graveside, in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, with the Rev. Laura Snyder from the United Methodist Church of Cooperstown officiating.
Friends are welcome to attend the service and a small luncheon immediately following.
Spencer G. Smith
CHERRY VALLEY — Mr. Spencer G. Smith, 92, of Cherry Valley, passed away July 25, 2001, quietly in his sleep, at his home.
He was born Dec. 21, 1908, in Tarrytown, the son of Claude and Gertrude Smith.
Mr. Smith was single his whole life.
He was employed as a banker at Citybank in New York City, until his retirement.
Mr. Smith was a summer resident until after his retirement. Then, in 1983, he moved to Cherry Valley full time.
Survivors include a niece, Adele Waldron Gerbracht, and her daughters, Claudia and Kristina; a nephew, Spencer S. Waldron and his daughter, Dana, and her mother, Stephanie Waldron; and another nephew, William C. Waldron III, and his daughters, Beth and Meredith Waldron and Jennifer Waldron Ryer.
Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.
There will be public calling hours on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley.
Burial will take place at a later date, in Tarrytown, beside his mother and father.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
Andrew Bay
UNADILLA — Andrew Dewaine "Abbott" Bay, 64, died unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, in Marcy.
He was born Aug. 1, 1937, son of the late Andrew and Leola (Long) Abbott in Detroit, Mich.
Andrew served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958.
He married Joyce Hettrick on Jan. 15, 1971, in Downey, Calif.
He was employed as a truck driver for Wal-Mart in Marcy.
Andrew was a member of the Lodge of the Elks #2175, Sidney, Loyal Order of the Moose #277, Sidney, VFW Corporal R.H. Arrandale Post #7914, Sidney and the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post #183, Sidney.
Andrew loved his family, especially his grandbabies.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bay of Unadilla; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Valerie Bay of Denver, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Tom Aitken of Atwater, Calif., and Tricia Palmer and Andy Doyle of Sidney; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Polly Bay of St. Louis, Mo., and Eldon and Ann Douglas of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Dolores Novich of Manchester, Mo.; grandbabies Rachel Bay and Duane, Marisa and Sarah Aitken; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Andrew's stepfather, William Bay; three brothers, Charles, Carroll and Donald Bay; and his son, David James Palmer; also predecease him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m. Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.
