Flossie M. Collison

SCHENEVUS — Flossie M. Collison, 97, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 17, 1904, in Nebraska, the daughter of Gideon and Ingaby (Banning) Ritchey.

She married Lester S. Collison Sr., on April 3, 1922, in Schenevus. He passed away Oct. 3, 1976.

Mrs. Collison lived in Schenevus from 1920 to 1998, when she moved to Grand Gorge.

She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and making a delicious Sunday dinner for her family.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lester Collison Jr., of Old Bridge, N.J., and William and Helen Collison of Oneonta; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ida Simmons of Otego, Eunice Francis of Grand Gorge, Glenn and Harriet Connelly of Elkhart, Ind., and Lorenzo Hollenbeck of Schenevus; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, La Vanchia Rudloff of Webster Spring, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Janet L. Hollenbeck; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Collison; two grandchildren; three sons-in-law, Earl Simmons, Charles Francis and Frederick Martin; and five brothers and six sisters.

Calling hours will be held at 1 p.m. till the funeral service time at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Elk Creek Cemetery, Schenevus.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Mrs. Collison to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 County Highway 34, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Linden Summers

HAMILTON — A memorial service for Linden Dulaney Summers Jr., 75, who died June 26, 2001, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at the chapel on the campus of Colgate University in Hamilton. A reception will immediately follow in the Merrill House on the university campus.

Lillian J. Wright

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Lillian J. Wright, 77, of Cooperstown, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 25, 2001, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born on Jan. 29, 1924, in Brooklyn, a daughter of Frederick and Marie (Steadler) Leiblein.

She married Norman E. Wright on March 25, 1943, in Merrick, Long Island.

Raised and educated in Merrick, Lil graduated from high school and became employed by Grumman Aerospace during World War II. After the war she devoted herself to raising and caring for her family. She returned to the work force in 1966, and became employed for the next 20 years as a secretary for the Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park.

Upon she and her husband's retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Germany, settling in Cooperstown 12 years ago.

A member of St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, as well as a volunteer for Bassett Healthcare.

Lil is survived by her husband of 58 years, Norm; one daughter, Mrs. Teresa Lynch and her husband, Bud, of Norwich, Vt.; two sons, Norman (Bud) Wright and his wife, Patricia, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and David Wright and his wife, Sarelle, of Glendale, Ariz.; one brother, Frederick (Hank) Leiblein and his wife, Marlene, of Wilmington, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Elsie Leiblein.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. John P. Rosson, pastor, and Fr. John R. Roos, pastor emeritus, officiating.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. when Lil's family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army, 25 River St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Eleanor Stronigan

DAVENPORT — Eleanor B. Stronigan, 88, of Davenport, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Davenport, the daughter of William and Dora (Sheldon) Butts.

She was married to the late Frank Stronigan April 11, 1936, in Davenport. He died June 8, 1971.

Mrs. Stronigan was a lifelong area resident serving as a caregiver and companion for several families in the area.

She was an active member of the North Kortright Presbyterian Church, which is now the Charlotte Valley Larger Parish.

She had a great passion for reading and loved to crochet.

Three nieces, June MacCracken, Davenport, Betty May Smith, Davenport, and Nancy Demarest, Hensonville and Florida; six great-nieces; and three great-nephews; and several other nieces and nephews survive.

She was predeceased by two brothers, William Butts and Roy Butts; and a sister, Mima Donahue.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the North Kortright Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Traci Martin officiating. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be at North Kortright Cemetery, North Kortright.

Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Charlotte Valley Larger Parish, Davenport.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Assunta M. Tabone

PORTLANDVILLE — Mrs. Assunta M. Tabone, 91, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001 at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Aug. 10, 1910 in Windsor Locks, Conn., the daughter of Anthony and Amalia (Margrassi) Sartirana. On June 14, 1941, she married John Tabone. He predeceased her in January 1987.

Mrs. Tabone lived in Holyoke, Mass., for 52 years where she worked at the Holyoke Hospital in Central Supply section before moving to Portlandville and later to the Robynwood Adult Home. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading.

Survivors include daughter Joanne Grey of Hartwick, daughter and son-in-law Susan and Ken LaBare of Jacksonville, Fla., sister Elizabeth Magnani of Windsor Locks and grandchildren Kristin Grey of Hartwick, Adam and Robin LaBare of Jacksonville, Fla., Christopher Fennell of Stratham, N.H., Maureen Fennel of N.H., and Sean Fennell of N.J.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, in St. Mary's Church, Windsor Locks, Conn. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Windsor Locks, Conn.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Tabone's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Leo McKenny

MOUNT VISION — Leo Vincent McKenny, 84, of State Highway 205, Mount Vision, died Sunday evening, Aug. 26, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Born in Bloomingdale, N.J., April 29, 1917, he was the son of the late Patrick John and Elizabeth Emma Weaver McKenny.

Before his retirement in 1979, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Morris County, N.J., Department of Public Works.

Mr. McKenny was predeceased by a brother, John McKenny; and five sisters, Sarah Babcock, Mary Sisco, Alice Fredricks, Frances Nigreni and Agnes McKenny.

Surviving is his wife, E. Jeannette Bott McKenny; two sons, Leo V. McKenny Jr. of Lake George and Thomas E. McKenny of Mount Vision; a daughter, Kathleen Wyble of Alabama; three sisters, Elizabeth Bott of Kinnelon, N.J., Catherine Yernes of Riverdale, N.J., and Ceil Gaw of New Jersey; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements by the Bernard L. Hamilton Funeral Service Inc., 65 Lucas Ave., Kingston.

Mary Lou E. Wahl

OTEGO — Mary Lou E. Wahl, 67, of Otego, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born in Medusa, on Dec. 7, 1933, the daughter of George and Harriet (Watson) Wyckoff.

A homemaker, Mary Lou is survived by eight daughters and their children; and her dear friend and companion, Robert Trask of Otego.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Frederick Stilson

FRANKLIN — Frederick Stilson, 86, of Franklin, died on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at the River Mede Nursing Facility in Binghamton.

He was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Franklin, the son of William and Addie (Smith) Stilson.

He is survived by a brother, Carroll Stilson of Unadilla; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral and committal services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Walter and Allene Dabulewicz

ONEONTA — A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego, for Walter C. and Allene Dabulewicz of Oneonta. The Rev. Craig Merritt, pastor of the Otego Baptist Church, Otego, will officiate.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta and Otego.

Howard E. Barton

ONEONTA — Howard E. Barton, 72, of Oneonta, died on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at the New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford.

He was born on Aug. 31, 1928, in Laurens, the son of Truman P. and Anna E. (Jorgensen) Barton.

Howard served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1954.

For many years, retiring several years ago, Howard was employed by West Nesbitt in Oneonta.

He is survived by two aunts, Ruth Manley of Milford Center, and Esther Bordinger of Maryland; along with several cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Barton.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. James Vargo, pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Sidney, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Vision Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 259, "Post Everlasting Fund."

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Anne Holbrook

ONEONTA — Anne Marie Livingston Holbrook, 57, of Oneonta, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born July 9, 1944, in Morris, the daughter of Raymond and Irma (Bundy) Livingston.

She married Robert Holbrook. He survives.

Mrs. Holbrook was a lifelong area resident who was employed at the Oneonta ARC and attended the West Oneonta Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband; her mother, Irma Ruston of Gilbertsville; three sons, James Leech of Prince George, Va., George and his wife, Carol Leech, of Otego and Ernest Holbrook of Otego; four grandchildren, James, John, Matthew and Katie Leech, all of Otego.

She is also survived by two stepsons, Eugene Holbrook and his wife, Rose, and their four children and three grandchildren, and Claude (Bob) Holbrook and his wife, Hilda, and their four children and one grandchild; two brothers, Wayne Livingston of Binghamton and Howard Livingston of York, S.C.; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. John Dougherty, pastor of the West Oneonta Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Otsdawa Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001; the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Bernard J. Crain

CHERRY VALLEY — Mr. Bernard J. Crain Jr., 90, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, in Hickory, N.C.

He was born in Darby, Pa., in 1911, the son of Bernard Sr. and Catherine Crain.

In 1942, he married Vera Egan in Albany. She survives.

He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II and was a graduate of the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1934. He returned to Cherry Valley in 1949, where he ran Crain's Pharmacy until 1985.

Survivors besides his wife, Vera Crain; include a son, Bert of Hickory, N.C.; a daughter, Nora of New York, N.Y.; a sister, Winnie Crain of Cherry Valley; and grandchildren Patrick, Michael, Cathy, Amy, Adam and Kaity; and four great-granddaughters.

He was predeceased by a son, Charles Crain.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Cherry Valley. Burial will follow in the Springfield Cemetery, Springfield Center.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Contributions in Mr. Crain's memory may be made to the Whiteman-Hull-Snyder Post 1360, Cherry Valley, N.Y.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Wilma L. Whitney

ROXBURY — Wilma L. Whitney, 78, of Roxbury, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

She was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Roxbury, the daughter of Reed McIntosh and Jennie Schwille.

She married Robert Whitney on Jan. 17, 1943, in Tampa, Fla. He died Oct. 27, 1984.

For several years Wilma cleaned the Roxbury Fire House and Post Office and other homes in the area. She was a lifelong area resident.

She was a member of the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church.

She is survived by one daughter, June Taylor, Kerhonkson; one son, Lawrence Whitney, Roxbury; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marian Brownell, Roxbury.

Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra, officiating. Burial will be in Halcott Cemetery, Halcott Center.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home.

Contributions in memory of Wilma Whitney may be made to the Roxbury Fire Department Ambulance Fund.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
