Marian J. Kasarda
April 30, 1919 - February 12, 2011
ILION: Mrs. Marian J. Kasarda, 91, of 16 Phillip Street, Ilion, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center with her family at her side.
She was born on April 30, 1919 in Ilion, NY, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Ida Crossett Farrington. She was a 1939 graduate of Ilion High School and was a lifelong resident of Ilion. Her marriage to Francis Kasarda took place on November 28, 1947 in Utica and he passed away June 22, 1988. Marian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ilion.
She was a loving grandmother and enjoyed the company of her grandchildren. Her door was always open to any child in need and always provided an ear to listen. She also found much pleasure in the sport of bowling and was very active in the Ilion PTO for many years.
Survivors include her daughter: Kim Maley and husband Lee of Ilion; a son: Edward Kasarda and wife Mary Kay of Newport; beloved grandchildren: Cindy, Suzy and Shawn, Steven and Heather, Christopher and Kaycie, Douglas, Matthew, Billy, Bobby and Danielle, and Russell; loving great-grandchildren: Nicole, Jocelyn, Emma, Kyle, Ryan, Colin, Braidin, and Drew. She is also survived by a brother: Ron Farrington of Herkimer and his children: Sally Ann and Bob Reardon, Ron and Anne Farrington, and a daughter-in –law: Linda Kasarda of Ilion; sisters-in law: Sister Ancilla and Marcella; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Glendon Kasarda on March 22, 2010.
A memorial service will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort, 894-8000 with The Reverend Victor McKusick officiating. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4-7pm. Interment will be held in the Spring at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, all memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association and the Ilion Ambulance Service. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The Kasarda family would like to thank all their dear friends on Phillip Street in Ilion for their help and also, their heartfelt gratitude to those who serve with the Ilion Fire Dept/Ambulance Service.
The family is being served by Harry J. Enea, Jr., director.

Viola "Vicki" G. Gilbert
July 6, 1922 - February 3, 2011
ILION-HERKIMER - Viola “Vicki” G. Gilbert, age 88, formerly of Ilion, St. Petersburg, FL, and Herkimer, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville.
She was born on July 6, 1922, in Galilee, PA, the daughter of Arno and Ethel (Eldred) Gregg, and graduated from Ilion High School in 1941. Viola was married to Edward E. Gilbert on October 5, 1941, at the Ilion United Methodist Church. He died on December 17, 1969. In her early years, she was a secretary at Sperry Rand Univac. Later Viola was the Administrative Assistant for the Vice President of Marketing, at MDS, Herkimer. She also worked ten years at General Electric Co., St. Petersburg, FL. At one time, she was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. Viola formed RID (Remove Intoxicated Drivers) Chapter, of Tampa Bay, and was past President of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), of Pinellas County. She was also active in Scouts and a member of American Legion Auxiliary and National Secretary Assoc.
Survivors include her children, Edward A. Gilbert and his wife, Ora Anne, of Wellesley Island, NY, James E. Gilbert and his wife, Barbara, of Herkimer, Sharon E. Fournier and her husband, Ted, of Ilion, and Donald G. Gilbert and his wife, Katherine, of Brooksville, FL; twelve grandchildren, Eddie, Gary, Lori, James, Matthew, Daniel, Erica, Ted, Trenton, Dawn, Traci and Tammy; twenty-four great-grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Steven, Christine, Brandon, Ashley, Benjamin, Thomas, Shauna, Fred, Brittany, Trey, Drew, Zoe, Skyler, Dakota, Ashton, Travis, Hannah, Austin, Joselyn, Kaelin, Kyle, Adam, Jonathan, Benjamin and Christopher; three great-great-grandchildren, Trenton, Nevaeh and Kayden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Steven and Craig Gilbert; her great-grandson, Kevin Gilbert; her sister, Alice Crossway; and her brother, Chester Gregg.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with the Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. Spring interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours are Monday, February 7, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to RID – Tampa Bay, P.O. Box 2408, Largo, FL 33779. Envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
The Gilbert family has requested that all funeral and burial arrangements be entrusted to their family funeral director, Don Applegate.

Mildred A. Worden
November 22, 1914 - February 15, 2011
ILION - Mildred A. Worden, age 96, formerly of 109 Kent Blvd., Ilion, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, with her family by her side.
She was born on November 22, 1914, the daughter of George and Edith (Shorey) Miles, and attended Ilion schools. On June 29, 1935, she was married to Victor J. Worden in Frankfort. He died on April 18, 1980. Mildred was employed at Mohawk Valley General Hospital, Ilion, for over thirty years. She loved her family. Mildred also enjoyed working around her yard and feeding the birds and squirrels.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Doris and Le Roy Humphrey, and Barbara Humphrey, of Ilion; eight grandchildren, Vickie Pagnotta and her husband, John, of Ilion, Linda Mishalanie, of Sauquoit, NY, Timothy Humphrey and his wife, Kimberly, of Rockford, MI, Scott Humphrey and his wife, Carolyn, of Marcy, David Humphrey and his wife, Tara, of Lewisburg, PA, Julie Worden, of  Texas, Michelle Muse and her husband, Mike, of  Texas, and Marcus Worden and his wife, Valarie, of Ilion; seventeen great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Mariko Worden, of  Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her son, Richard Worden, on April 4, 1974; her brothers, Francis, George, Alvin and Arthur Miles; and her son-in-law, Kenneth Humphrey, on May 14, 2010.
Funeral Services will be held 6 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Janet Gleason, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer and Little Falls, officiating. Spring burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Visitation will be Friday, 4 to 6 p.m., prior to the funeral home service.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Monroe Community at the Masonic Care Community for their kindness and excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Care Community or Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Philip J. "Phil" Quatrino
April 8, 1927 - April 13, 2011
HERKIMER - Mr. Philip R. “Phil” Quatrino, age 84, of Herkimer passed away on April 13, 2011 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica with the love and support of his family by his side.
He was born on April 8, 1927 in Fonda, son of the late James and Antoinette (Festante) Quatrino and educated in Little Falls schools. He was united in marriage on September 28, 1951 with Irene P. Waseleski in St. Joseph’s Church, Herkimer; a blessed union of 39 years until the passing of Mrs. Quatrino on September 4, 1992. Mr. Quatrino was a proud US World War II Veteran having served with the Navy enlisting on May 3, 1945 and was honorably discharged on May 13, 1946. He was the recipient of the American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific and Victory Medals. He was last employed as the maintenance head with Herkimer Central School retiring after 30 years of dedicated service at the age of 57. Phil was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer and a life member of the Herkimer American Legion Post #38 as well as the Utica Sons of Italy Club.
Survivors include his beloved family; his children: Philip Quatrino and wife Karen of Tampa, FL, Cynthia Levinrad and husband Ira of Dale City, VA, and Pamela Griffiths and her husband Ed; his cherished grandchildren: Philip Quatrino and wife Christina, Daniel Quatrino and wife Kenyon, Gregory Quatrino and fiancé Amanda DeLude, Marc Levinrad, Shannon and Sarah Griffiths; his adored great grandchildren: Avery, Anna, and Madeline Rose; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are special friends: Laura Vashio and Tony DeAngelis. Besides Phil’s parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings: Joseph, Nancy, James, Anthony and Louie.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N.  Washington St., Herkimer (866-1011) on Friday, April 15, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. A graveside service will take place at 11:30am on Saturday, April 16 from the Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer with the Rev. Thomas Lawless, pastor of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer officiating. Military honors will be offered by the US Navy.
Kindly consider memorial offerings to the National Arthritis Foundation; envelopes are available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Jessica Battisti and Cheryl Liddon for the kindness and compassion that they offered during this difficult time. Also, a heartfelt thank you is extended to the nurses and staff at the Folts Homes, Herkimer. Members of the Herkimer American Legion Post #38 will conduct their service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday evening.

Dorothy J. Ogborn

DELHI — Dorothy J. Ogborn, 81, of Chittenango, formerly of Kirkville and Delhi, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.

The daughter of the late Frank E. and Chrissy J. (Fuller) Bedford, she was born July 24, 1920, in Otego, graduated in 1938 from A. L. Kellogg School in Treadwell and married Raymond H. Ogborn on July 31, 1938, at the Meredith Baptist Church.

For 25 years, Dorothy and Raymond owned and operated the family farm at Spring Lake, Delhi, later moving to Kirkville in 1967. Raymond died Dec. 19, 1980. For the past year, Dorothy had been living with her daughter.

Surviving are one daughter, Margery J. (Richard) Spencer, Chittenango; two sons, Kenneth N. (Linda) Ogborn, Davenport, and Lawrence H. (Dale) Ogborn, Chittenango; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa (Sheldon) Shaw, Delhi, and Ruth (O'Dell), Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Raymond D. Ogborn (1978) and a brother, Frank Bedford (2000).

Friends are invited to call today (Thursday) at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. and where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31. The Rev. Bert More will officiate and burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet and Son, Delhi.

Bette Morzilla

BERWICK, Pa. — Bette Morzilla, 64, of Berwick, Pa., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Naples Healthcare Hospital in Naples, Fla.

She was born April 12, 1937, in Worcester, N.Y., the daughter of Matt and Jennie (Struckle) Sega.

Bette was a graduate of the Worcester Central School and received a nursing degree from the Albany Medical College.

She was a resident of Berwick, Pa., and spent the winters in Naples, Fla.

She is survived by her husband, Bert Morzilla; her mother, Jennie Sega of Worcester; her children, Tara Morzilla, Michael and his wife, Kim Morzilla; and a grandson, Ty Morzilla, all of Berwick, Pa.; two sisters, Joyce Udovich of Syracuse, N.Y., and Deborah Empie of Auburn, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester

A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday Sept. 1, 2001, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant.

Burial will follow at the Lower East Worcester Cemetery, Route 7.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Berwick YMCA Building Fund, 3rd Street, Berwick, PA 18603.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Jane Tarricone

ONEONTA — Mrs. Jane Tarricone, 75, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Nursing Home.

She was born April 5, 1926, in Scranton, Pa., the daughter of Daniel and Jenny (Forte) Tambasco.

She married Charles Tarricone on May 29, 1952, in Queens.

Mrs. Tarricone has been an area resident for the past six years, moving here from Flushing.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Oneonta.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Tarricone of Oneonta; her children and their spouses, Linda and Jim Mussler of Nesconset, and Dr. Nick and Patti Tarricone of Oneonta; her grandchildren, Charlie, Katie and Matthew Tarricone, and Denise and Eric Mussler.

She is also survived by five brothers; and two sisters; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Godwin Nnamani, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

There will be no formal calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Leatherstocking Branch, P.O. Box 1364, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Thelma B. Brown

OTEGO — Thelma B. Brown, 76, of Otego, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, after a long extended illness, with her loving family present at her side.

She was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Otego, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Hamilton) Scofield.

She married Donald A. Brown on Feb. 14, 1942. He died June 26, 1990.

Thelma was a lifelong area resident of Otego. She was an assessor for Otego for 23 years and had served as chairwoman of the assessors from 1988-2001. At one time she worked for Bruno's Grocery Store in Oneonta, and had also worked as a school aide at the Otego Elementary School. She also was employed at the Gardenview Nursing Home in Otego, as well as having sold real estate for DeMulder Mang Real Estate.

She is survived by her children, Donna Rose of Otego, Donald F. Brown of Stuart, Fla., James D. Brown and his wife, Tammi, of Otego, Terry E. Brown and his wife, Ellen, of Otego, Stephen D. Brown and his wife, Julie, of Jensen Beach, Fla., Michael A. Brown and his wife, Roxi, of Otego, Deborah L. Bresee and her husband, Randy, of Mount Upton, Janice E. Miller and her husband, Ron, of Wells Bridge, Douglas C. Brown and his wife, Karen, of Otego and Jill L. Brown of Otego; one brother, Charles Duane Scofield of Schenevus; 38 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren.

Thelma was predeceased by a sister, Betty Jubar; a granddaughter, Kerrie Ann Brown; and a great-granddaughter, Sheri Lea Mowers.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St., Otego, with the Rev. Stephen Miller, pastor of the Otego Christian Church, Otego, officiating. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego, after 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001. The family will be present at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001. Burial will be in the Bundy Cemetery, Otego.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Otego Emergency Squad, Catskill Area Hospice or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Thelma's granddaughter, Kerrie Ann Brown.

The family would like to thank the Catskill Area Hospice workers that attended Thelma during her illness.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Nellie Turtur

NEW BERLIN — Nellie Turtur, 95, of Masonville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin.

She was born Feb. 1, 1906, daughter of the late William and Lillian (Wolslagel) Cummings in Equinox, Pa.

Nellie married Arthur Turtur on Oct. 20, 1926, in Binghamton. He predeceased her in 1965.

Mrs. Turtur was a member of the Masonville Federated Church.

She is survived by two sons, Harold Turtur of Bainbridge and Arnold Turtur of East Masonville; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Milton Curtis of Masonville; brother, Wilson Cummings of Bennettsville; two sisters, Hazel Sheeley of Sidney and Elizabeth Shackleton of Florida; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Pat Robinson, past interim pastor of the Masonville Federated Church, officiating. Callings hours will begin at 2:30 p.m. before the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonville Emergency Squad.

Arrangements by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Robert Gladden

UNADILLA — Robert Scott Gladden, 47, of Unadilla, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Albany Medical Center, Albany, after a courageous battle against multiple myeloma.

He was born July 14, 1954, in Springfield, Mass.

A resident of Unadilla since 1986, he is survived by his father, Robert K. Gladden of Ocean, N.J.; a sister, Diane Moore of Leesburg, Va.; a brother, James E. Gladden of Pleasant Valley; and his longtime companion, Rod Spangle of Unadilla.

Scott was a professional illustrator and a nationally recognized portrait and landscape painter.

He graduated from Pratt Institute in 1976, and studied at the Art Students League in New York City. He has shown his work at the Allied Artists of America, Artists Professional League, Cooperstown Art Association, Norwich Arts Council, The Salmagundi Club, The Jericho Arts Council and the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts. Scott was know for his distinctive portrait work in oil and gold leaf, which was the subject of a recent feature article in American Artist's Magazine.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial art exhibition on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Westcott Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Unadilla. Many of Scott's original paintings will be on display.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 East Main St., Sidney, N.Y. 13838.
