Obituary: Mae F. Bishop, 94, of McGraw, NY, formerly of 21 Benedict Ave., Ilion, died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Northwoods Rehabilitation and Extended Care Facility in Cortland, NY.

She was born on January 19, 1913, in Ilion, the daughter of Irving and Mabel (Tuttle) VanAlstine and was a 1932 graduate of Ilion High School. On July 31, 1940, she was married to Charles R. Bishop in Mt. Rose, PA. He died in 1990. At one time, Mae was employed for seven years at the Ilion Hospital. She later worked as a housekeeper for Dr.  Jones in Ilion for seven years. Mrs. Bishop was a former member of the Ilion United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Marion Griswald of Cortland, NY; two grandsons, Jay Brewer and wife, Barb of Snow Camp, NC, and Corey Brewer and wife, Amy of Clayton, NC; two great-granddaughters, Crystal Brewer of Snow Camp, NC, and McKenzie Brewer of Clayton, NC; one great-grandson, Logan Brewer of Clayton, NC; one son-in-law, William Brewer of NC; several nieces, including Susan Porter and Linette Welsh of McGraw, NY, and Sharon Wagner of Maryland, NY; and two nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Brewer; her sister, Arlene Tibbets; and one great-granddaughter, Lindsay Brewer.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Robert Wollaber, Pastor of the Ilion United Methodist Church officiating. Spring interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral home service. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Donation envelopes are available at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion.

Visitations: Visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., (between Frankfort & Ilion) will be held on Friday (today), May 11, 2007 from 5-7 p.m.
Services: Mrs. Martin’s funeral will commence at 11:45 am on Saturday, May 12, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 12:30 p.m. from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort St., Frankfort, where the Rev. John Yanas, Jr. pastor, will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial.
Cemetery: Alls Souls Chapel, (Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort) where committal prayers will be offered.

Obituary: FRANKFORT-Mrs. Emma J. Martin, 77, a longtime resident of Kernan Ave., Frankfort, most recently of Valley Health Services, Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, May 10, 2007 in the nursing home. At the time of her passing, she had the love and support of her family at her side.

She was born in Flint, Michigan, and educated in Michigan schools. She was married to Ralph Martin in 1962. He passed away in 1985. Emma was last employed by the Masonic Home, Utica, as a nurse’s aide. She was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort. A beloved mother and grandmother she will be deeply missed by her loved ones.

Survivors include her children: Frank Tomasulo of New York City, Patricia Tomasulo and companion Anthony of New York City, Mary Tomasulo also of New York City, Diana LaPorte and husband J.P. of Herkimer and Michele Nizzi and husband Perry of Frankfort; six grandchildren: Leo Nizzi, Marissa Nizzi, Jason Martin, Donald Martin, Dylan Martin and Daniel Tomasulo; a great grandchild: Destiny Martin; and many cousins.

Visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., (between Frankfort & Ilion) will be held on Friday (today), May 11, 2007 from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Martin’s funeral will commence at 11:45 am on Saturday, May 12, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 12:30 p.m. from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort St., Frankfort, where the Rev. Joseph "Joe" LaCoppola

Obituary: Joseph “Joe” LaCoppola, Jr., 75, of 14 Mechanic St., St. Johnsville passed away on Sunday May 13, 2007, at Little Falls Hospital.

He was born November 23, 1931 in Little Falls the son of the late Joseph LaCoppola, Sr., and Anna (Zindell) LaCoppola. Joe was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1950.

Mr. LaCoppola was a United States Army veteran, during the Korean Conflict, serving his country from June 12, 1952 to March 20, 1954.

Joe was a general contractor and owner and operator of LaCoppola Building Supplies, Inc. in St. Johnsville until his retirement in 2003.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in St. Johnsville, VFW Post 14000, and the St. Johnsville American Legion, Post # 0168.

Survivors include his brothers, Arthur LaCoppola, Frederick LaCoppola and wife Kathy and Raymond LaCoppola all of St. Johnsville, his sisters, Adelaide Battisti, Anne Thomas, Rose Jubar and husband George and Margaret DiGiacomo all of St. Johnsville, in-laws, Emma LaCoppola, Josephine LaCoppola and Dorothy Yacowenia all of St. Johnsville, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Frank, Louis and Anthony LaCoppola and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 16, 2007 at 9:00 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville and at 9:30 am from St. Patrick’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Tuesday May 15, 2007 from 5-8 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Church or to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Thelma M. Robertson

Obituary: Thelma M. Robertson, 90, a longtime resident of 154 Prospect Ave., Ilion, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Robertson was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Dolgeville, the daughter of the late Robert and Eva (Folts) Watson. She was a graduate of Ilion High School and continued her education in Cortland. On June 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Douglas Robertson in Ilion. They shared a blessed union of 50 years until Mr. Robertson's death, July 10, 1991. Thelma was employed at Sperry Rand-Univac in Ilion and Utica, retiring in 1977 with over 30 years of dedicated service. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Annunciation, AARP, Ilion Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and at one time volunteered with the Mohawk Valley General Hospital Guild.

Survivors include her nieces, Pamela S. Waner and her husband Thomas of Canajoharie, and Nancy Schiller of N.C.; her nephew, Christopher Watson and his wife Margaret of Palatine Bridge; a great-niece and great-nephew, Christine O'Connor of Sprakers and Patrick J. O'Connor III of Canajoharie, friends, neighbors, and her faithful companion, Buffy.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, Harvey and Robert Watson.

Mrs. Robertson's funeral service will be held Saturday Feb. 3, commencing at 10 a.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, and 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, pastor.

Family and friends are invited to visitation Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will take place this spring in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort, at a date and time to be announced.

In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorials in Thelma's name to the Herkimer County Humane Society. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Norma Swift

ONEONTA — A memorial service for Norma W. (Mrs. Frederic Fay) Swift, formerly of Oneonta, who died Sept. 16, 2001, in Rochester, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at the First Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Oneonta. A coffee hour sponsored by the church will begin at noon before the service, with interment of her ashes following at Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta.

Alice E. Tumber

COOPERSTOWN — Alice Ellison Tumber, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at The Meadows, where she had been a resident since 1996.

She was born in  White Plains on Oct. 9, 1913, the daughter of William E. and Dorothy (Beach) Shoemaker. She married Percy Cedric Tumber on Dec. 23, 1933. He died Aug. 8, 1990.

Alice leaves the following loved ones: her daughters, Gladys Freeland and her husband, Donald, of Oneonta, Janice Payne and her husband, Keith, of East Hampton; a sister, Martha Jensen of Argyle; her brothers, William and John Shoemaker of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Christina Freeland of Cooperstown, Jennifer Freeland Moscar of Hilton Head, S.C., Michael W. Freeland of Philadelphia, Pa., John W. Freeland of Toms River, N.J., and Jason Megan and Justin Payne of East Hampton; her nieces, June Ferreri and her husband, Perry, of Absecon, N.J., and Patti Henderer of Saratoga Springs; and a nephew, Edward Pugh and family of Salem, N.Y.

She also leaves behind two dear childhood friends, Edith Ferraro and family of Niantic, Conn., and Gladys Stickler and family of Seattle, Wash.

She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of East Hampton, and for many years Alice was director of the Neighborhood House in East Hampton.

She and her husband moved to Westville in 1983.

Alice devoted most of her life to her daughters and her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She will remain in their hearts forever.

A graveside service and burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Westville Cemetery, with the Rev. Douglas Smith, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Cooperstown, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Thomas W. Duffy

ROCHESTER — Thomas William Duffy, 52, of Rochester, N.Y., and formerly of Oneonta, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, in the World Trade Center disaster.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; sons, Jason Thomas Duffy and Ryan William Duffy, both of Rochester; grandson, Dylan Thomas Duffy; brother, R. Michael Duffy of New Hartford, N.Y.; sister, Barbara Willers of Trumansburg, N.Y.; an uncle; several aunts, including Meg Duffy of Oneonta; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is also survived by his father- and mother-in-law John and Hazel Wayman of Oneonta. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Robert and Natalie Duffy of Oneonta.

Friends may call Friday, Oct. 5, between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Chapel Inc. at 2305 Monroe Ave. in Rochester.

You are invited to bring written memories and favorite photographs of Tom for the family's Memory Book.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2617 East Ave., Rochester.

Anne M. Tierney

BAINBRIDGE — Anne M. Tierney, 54, of Otsego County Highway 1, Bainbridge, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, N.Y.

She was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Richard and Mary (Huntington) Lewis.

She was married to John W. Tierney Jr., on Sept. 28, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Anne was a former office manager for NASSCO of San Diego,  Calif.

She is survived by her husband, John W. Tierney Jr., of Bainbridge; her father, Richard Lewis, of Florida; her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Darren Longley and Kim and Tony Palkovic, all of San Diego,  Calif.; her son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Marilyn Anderson of San Diego,  Calif.; her brother, Richard Lewis of Long Island; her sister, Ellen Lewis of San Diego,  Calif.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Jane Noon.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at the Unadilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kip Stratton, pastor, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, N.Y.

Joan C. Johns

FRANKLIN — Private family graveside services for Joan C. Johns will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin.

Mrs. Johns died July 6, 2001, in the  Jackson Hospital in Marianna, Fla.

She was born on March 13, 1924, the daughter of William and Mary (Graney) Bird.

On June 12, 1943, she married Robert T. Johns Jr., in Chicago, Ill., who survives.

Surviving also are her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Robert Heffernan of Franklin. Survivors also include six grandchildren, Robert Heffernan Jr., Kate Heffernan, Robert T. Johns IV, William Johns, Brian Johns and Kimberly Johns; and three great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by two sisters, Ellen Huddle of Elmira and Peggy Weilandt of Westwood, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Robert T. Johns III, on Oct. 25, 1995.

Cremation services were provided by James and James Funeral Home in Marianna, Fla.

Charles Maddalone

MIAMI, Fla. — Charles Joseph Maddalone, 72, of Miami, Fla., and formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, in Doctors Hospital, Miami, Fla.

He was born March 2, 1929, in Schenevus, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph and Helen Friery Maddalone. Charles was a graduate of the State University College at and received his master's degree from the College of St. Rose.

He taught history and then learning disabilities at Oneonta High School until moving to Florida in 1965. In Florida, he taught psychology at the Miami Springs Senior High School until his retirement.

He was married to Roberta Higgins of Schenevus, and they had a daughter, Patricia Ann, who died in 1972.

With many friends in the Oneonta area, he was a frequent visitor.

He is survived by two brothers, Joseph Maddalone of Sidney, N.Y., and John Maddalone of Goshen, N.Y.; a niece, Christina Maddalone; three nephews and their families, Kevin and Tamara Maddalone and their son, Daniel, and James and Karen Maddalone and their sons, Matthew and Andrew, and Robert Maddalone.

A brother, Robert, predeceased Charles.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Lena Fioravanti

WEST ISLIP — Mrs. Lena (Consorti) Fioravanti, 93, of West Islip, Long Island, passed away Sept. 20, 2001, in West Islip.

She was born March 20, 1908, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Joseph and Maria Consorti.

She was predeceased by her husband, Umberto, in 1972.

She was a seamstress. She was an avid reader, devoted mother and teacher, and she opened many doors for those seeking her counsel and encouragement.

She is survived by three children, Joseph of Oneonta, Umberto Jr. of West Babylon, Long Island and Mrs. Madeline Agoglia of Lewisburg, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, West Babylon.

Burial was Sept. 24, 2001, in St. Charles Cemetery.
