Henrietta Day
HARTFORD/CAMBRIDGE - Henrietta M. Day, 102, formerly of Cambridge, passed away, on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at the Southwestern Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt.

Born on Aug. 30, 1905, in Indian Lake, N.Y., she was the daughter of Harry and Alice (Duel) Eldridge.

Henrietta attended a one room school at Big Brook in northern New York. Her family moved to  Washington County in the summer of 1927, where she met and married James Battease in 1930. Together they had two children and raised them in Hartford. James passed away in 1967.

Helen Enny
WHITEHALL - Helen P. Enny, 84, of Whitehall, passed away with her family by her side on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Westmount Health Facility after a brief illness.

Family and friends may call at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall, N.Y. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, in Whitehall, with the Rev. Michael Flannery, pastor, officiating.

Thomas Gilmour Cleland
SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. — Thomas Gilmour Cleland, 66, died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Spotsylvania, Va. on Friday, Aug. 22.

Mr. Cleland, the son of Thomas and Julia Cleland, was born in South Glens Falls, N.Y. in 1942.

He worked for Steelcase, Inc. for 23 years, retiring as a senior vice president in 1997.

Helen Patricia (Condon) Enny
WHITEHALL — Helen Patricia (Condon) Enny, 84, of Whitehall, passed away with family by her side on Monday, Aug. 25, at Westmount Health Facility, after a brief illness.

Helen was born on March 17, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Krumm) Condon.

Helen has three brothers: John, Thomas and Louis Condon all predeceased; a brother, Joseph Condon of Largo, Fla.; and a sister, Julia Kaminski of Ocala, Fla. At 15 years old, Helen took on the responsibility of raising her siblings when her mother passed away. Her strength was tried at a very early age and her love and dedication to family was evident.

Audrey W. McLaughlin
WHITEHALL — Audrey W. McLaughlin, 80, of First Avenue, passed away peacefully, on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at her home with her loving family at her side.

Born Jan. 3, 1928, in Clemons, she was the daughter of Gerald Davis and Mary (Saladine) Davis.

Audrey enjoyed spending time with her family, watching television and routing for the Mets.

Helen M. Palmer
NORTH HUDSON — Helen M. Palmer, 94, passed away Monday morning, Aug. 25, 2008, peacefully at her home with her loving daughter by her side.

Helen was born Jan. 19, 1914, in the same house where she lived throughout her entire life.

She was married to Charles Palmer, who passed away March 17, 1998. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Charles "Pat" Morissey, July 3, 1984.

John Wood
ARGYLE — John Wood, 82, of Route 43, passed away at home on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008.

Arrangements are pending with M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Argyle, N.Y.

Bonnie Jean Girard
GLENS FALLS - Bonnie Jean Girard, 59, of Glens Falls, passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her loving family was at her side.

Born Dec. 11, 1948, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Doris (Wood) Morrissey of Queensbury and the late Wesley Morrissey.

Bonnie was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School, Class of 1967.

Rose Litwa
CORINTH - Rose Litwa, 82, of Center Street, Corinth, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born on Jan. 5, 1926, in Jamaica, Queens, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Emilia (Cicerara) Giannino.

Following graduation from Jamaica High in Queens, Rose married John J. Litwa on her birthday in 1946. The couple moved to Hadley in 1967, and owned and operated The Hadley House Restaurant. She became well-known for her Italian cooking, providing countless dinners for her family and friends. When the mall opened in Queensbury, she worked as the manager of the sandwich shop at the J.C. Penney store until she retired.

Elizabeth Bette Packard Barry
TAMPA, Fla. - Elizabeth "Bette" Packard Barry, 75, after a long illness, died peacefully in her sleep, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the (Exceptional) Melech Hospice House.

She was born on July 3, 1933, in Manhattan, N.Y.

Elizabeth married the late Laurence Barry Jr. "Larry," of Brookline, Mass., in 1951.

Vivian Blakely
LAKE LUZERNE - Vivian Blakely, age 92, of Lake Avenue, died Saturday morning, Aug. 23, 2008, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Fort Edward.

Born on Nov. 7, 1915, in Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of Isaac and May (Ladd) Drew.

During World War II, while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, she was stationed in England at the RCAF headquarters.

Donald M. Shepard
HUDSON FALLS - Donald M. Shepherd, 81, of Maple Street, pased away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Arrangements are pending under the direction of Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Anthony Quinn
QUEENSBURY - Anthony Quinn, 62, of Evergreen Lane, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008.

Born in Glens Falls on March 23, 1946, he was the son of the late James and Julia (Cardinale) Quinn.

Tony graduated from South Glens Falls high school in 1964 and went on to Castleton State College, where he received his Bachelor of Science in education.

Donald M. "Shep" Shepherd Jr.
HUDSON FALLS - Donald M. "Shep" Shepherd Sr., 81, of Maple Street, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Aug. 28, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on May 22, 1927 in New Bedford, Mass., he was the son of the late Henry and Marion (Young) Shepherd Sr.

Shep attended Patchogue High School and then entered the U.S. Navy. He was proud to have served his country as a Gunners Mate on the USS Ben F. Dixon. During his enlistment, he had the opportunity to travel throughout the world.

Marion L. Bernard
HUDSON FALLS - Marion L. Bernard, 88, a longtime Burgoyne Avenue resident, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home

Frank Durphey
SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Frank Durphey, 88, formerly of Mountainview Drive, passed away on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at the Glens Falls Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Hartland, Vt., on April 28, 1920, he was the son of William H. and Mary M. (Spaulding) Durphey.

Frank started his 40-year career with General Electric Co. at the Pittsfield, Mass., plant and was transferred to the Capacitor Division in Hudson Falls, from which he retired.

Virginia Johnson
West Fort Ann - Virginia M. Johnson, 75, of Hadlock Pond, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008.

Burial will be at Brown Cemetery in the town of Fort Ann at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008.

Florence Ann Baker Dingman
FLORAL CITY, Fla. - Florence Ann (Baker) Dingman, 84, passed away peacefully at the Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, Fla., on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, following a long illness.

Born on Aug. 23, 1924, in Kingsbury, she was the daughter of the late George and Millicent (Combs) Baker.

She married Lloyd A. Dingman Jr., on Sept. 26, 1940. The couple resided in Warrensburg until 1988, when they relocated to Floral City, Fla.

Vincent P. Vallone
Vinny Vallone

Ballston Spa - Vincent P. Vallone of Ballston Spa, formerly of Schuylerville, died early Thursday morning, Aug. 21, 2008, at the age of 40.

Born Oct. 20, 1967, in Bayshore, Long Island, to Marilyn and Rod Vallone, both of Saratoga Springs, Vinny was raised in Bacon Hill and graduated from Schuylerville High School. While in school Vinny was involved in football, wrestling, rodeo and Future Farmers of America, and was genuinely liked by all. By trade he was a plumbing and heating technician, but in his heart he was a farmer and was happiest with his daughters, in the fields or working with animals.

Ella Mae Ross
FORT EDWARD - Ella Mae Ross, 75, of Fort Edward, went into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on Nov. 2, 1932, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Elva Mae (Durkee) Edgerly.

On Feb. 3, 1951, she married Stanley Ross in South Glens Falls. He passed away on Oct. 29, 1976.

Carmela Gilbert
Queensbury - Carmela Gilbert, 91, of Queensbury, N.Y., passed away at home on Aug. 29, 2008, after a long illness.

Born in Fort Edward, N.Y., on Dec. 13, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Marco and Antoinette Sarchioto.

Carmela was a communicant of St. Alphonsus Church, Glens Falls.

Elaine V. Nolin
QUEENSBURY - Elaine V. Nolin, 67, of Queensbury, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 28, 1941, in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Loretta (Dowmont) Bordeau.

Elaine was very proud of the fact that in 1995, after extensive study at home through the Scranton, Pa., school system, she graduated from high school, and received her diploma at the same time as her son Ronald and her grandson, Jamie Record.

Marion L. Bernard
HUDSON FALLS - Marion L. Bernard, 88, a longtime Burgoyne Avenue resident, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on March 28, 1920 in Elizabeth, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian (Stevens) Spinger.

Her husband, Laurent Bernard, died on Dec. 8, 1999.

Virginia S. "Ginny" Johnston
West Fort Ann - Virginia M. ("Ginny") Johnston, 75, of Hadlock Pond, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Fort Hudson Healthcare, Fort Edward, N.Y.

Ginny was born Nov. 30, 1932, in Beekmantown, N.Y., the daughter of William and Mabel (Bradley) Moore.

She graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1952.

Claudia Ferrone
Claudia Ferrone

Ballston Spa - Claudia Ferrone, passed away at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa on Friday, Aug. 29. She was 86. She is survived by her husband Francis P. Ferrone; her daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Thomas Eletto of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; her son and daughter-in-law Paul and Janet Ferrone of Ankeny, Iowa; a brother Spartaco Liberi of Plainsboro, N.J.; and stepgrandchildren Jacob, Colin, Audra and Kara Eletto, and Louise and Justin Alcorn. Her family would particularly like to thank the staffs at Maplewood Manor and Saratoga Hospital for their loving and kind care.

Claudia and her husband Francis owned and operated the Pinebrook Motel in Lake George, N.Y., for many years and were active in the Lake George Chamber of Commerce.
