Helen Lampron

EDMESTON — Helen Lampron, 84, of Edmeston, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

She was born June 10, 1917, in Holyoke, Mass., the daughter of Wilfred and Elise (Heppelle) Bourgeois.

She was married to Paul E. Lampron. He predeceased her on Aug. 12, 1989.

Helen and Paul operated the Bishop Print Shop in Edmeston until their retirement in 1980.

She was a member of the Catholic Ladies Society of the Church of the Nativity, B.V.M., in Edmeston and a life member of the Wharton Valley American Legion Auxiliary and was a past president of the 6th District, American Legion Auxiliary. Helen was also honored as a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.

Helen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Elsa Lampron of Edmeston; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen (Penny) and Ernest Squires of  Texas; two brothers and four sisters; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Pauline  Jones of Garrattsville.

A graveside service and committal for Helen's family will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, with the Rev. Fr. John Burns officiating.

A memorial Mass for Helen will be held at a time to be announced in the spring at the Church of the Nativity, B.V.M., Edmeston.

Those who wish may call at the home of Mike and Elsa Lampron, 7 East St., Edmeston, after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in Helen's memory to the Edmeston Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 111, Edmeston, NY 13335.

Funeral arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Sidney Kleinman

ROCHESTER — Sidney Kleinman passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001.

He was formerly of Oneonta.

He was predeceased by his wife, Edith (Isaacs) Kleinman.

He is survived by his children, Fredda (Dan) Gilmartin and Kenneth (Debra Fein) Kleinman; grandchildren, Casey, Rebecca, Courtney, Ari, Jordan, Nate and Reid; and various nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at noon at New Comer Family Funeral Home, 6 Empire Blvd., in Rochester. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Celia Ferguson

EAST PATCHOGUE, Long Island — Celia Belle (Shaul) Ferguson, 80 years old, of Schuyler Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at her home in East Patchogue, Long Island, with her family by her side.

She was born in Exeter Center, the daughter of Bert and Margaret (Vrooman) Shaul on May 20, 1921.

She married Robert Charles Ferguson on Dec. 31, 1938. Robert predeceased her on Jan. 24, 1991.

Celia is survived by her beloved and only son, Donald Bert Ferguson, and his wife, Mary, of East Patchogue, Long Island; three grandchildren, Donald B. Ferguson Jr., Sheryl Ferguson and Cheryl Kehlenbeck, all of Long Island; a sister, Elsie Shaul  Taylor (who lovingly spent the last two months caring for her); a special niece, Peggy Stickles and her husband, Edwin Stickles; and several other nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ferguson was a longtime member of the Election Board prior to her appointment as Postmaster in 1955. She retired in 1978 after serving for 23 years. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Arbutus Chapter No. 317 at Richfield Springs, and a member of the Universalist Old Stone Church in Schuyler Lake.

Calling hours were held in Long Island at the Robertaccio Funeral Home, Inc., on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, and a Memorial Prayer Service on Monday, Oct. 22, 2001.

Burial of the crematory remains will take place at the Schuyler Lake Cemetery in the spring. A graveside service will be held at that time for friends and relatives.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Schuyler Lake Fire Department.

Eve Bell Cummings

EAST MEREDITH — Eve Bell Cummings, 88, of East Meredith, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at home.

She was born Sept. 10, 1913, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Blake.

She was married to Melvin G. Cummings in June 1944 in Deposit. He died in August 1993.

Mrs. Cummings lived in the Davenport area all her life where she was a homemaker.

A son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Shari Cummings, East Meredith; a granddaughter, Traci and Janson Kruger, North Carolina; three stepgrandchildren, Wade and Sue Ann Barney, Laurens, Robert Barney Jr.,  Texas, and Shawn Barney, Binghamton; and a great-grandson, Jacob Seth Kruger, survive her.

A son, Kenneth Daltone; and stepdaughter, Carole Fiddia predeceased her.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport, with the Rev. Royal Mattoon officiating. Burial will follow the service at Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in her memory may be made to East Meredith Fire Department.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Gabriel Rivera

UNADILLA — Gabriel Rivera, 86, of Unadilla, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at his home.

He was born July 28, 1915, son of the late Claudio and Isolina Rodriguez Rivera in Cidra, Puerto Rico.

Gabriel served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945.

He married Hilda Diaz on April 10, 1947, in Puerto Rico.

Mr. Rivera was employed as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service when he retired in 1982.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Hilda Rivera, Unadilla; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gabriel Rivera, Greenwich, Conn., Edgar and Tricia Rivera, Denver,  Colo., and Samuel and Christine Rivera, Unadilla; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Mike Roldan, Attleboro, Mass., and Roxanna and Feriz Bajra, Norwalk, Conn.; sister, Margo; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor, officiating.

Friends may call Tuesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Unadilla.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Linda Meehan

ONEONTA — Linda Catella Meehan, 53, of Oneonta, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born March 23, 1948, in Oneonta, the daughter of Frederick A. and Edith M. (Himes) Catella.

Linda was a lifelong area resident, and a member of St. Mary's Church.

She enjoyed arts and crafts, along with being an avid bingo player. Most of all, she looked forward to playing her daily card game with her mother.

She is survived by her parents, Fred and Edith Catella of Oneonta; her children, Stacey (and Calvin) Camp of New Berlin, and Erin Marie Meehan of Portlandville; her brother, Fred (and Judy) Catella of Pulaski.

She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as a special friend, Virginia Cortese.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta at which time the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School Building Fund.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Michael Maynard

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Michael W. Maynard, 21, of Plymouth, Mass., formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident which occurred in Carver, Mass., on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001.

Born in Smithtown, N.Y., on Nov. 27, 1979, Michael resided with his family in Patchogue, N.Y., until the age of 6. He lived in Oneonta from 1986 until 1995, and attended Center Street School, Worcester Central School, and Oneonta Junior and Senior High schools.

Michael relocated to Plymouth, Mass., in 1995, where he attended Plymouth North High School, and eventually pursued a career as an automotive technician with Cape Auto of Plymouth, Mass.

While in Oneonta, Michael was active in many sporting and cultural activities. He played Jaycee soccer and Oneonta Soccer Club traveling soccer, was an avid mountain biker and skate boarder, was a talented musician, and was a member of the Oneonta Boychoir.

While in Massachusetts, Michael developed a passion for fishing, and was a common sight along the shores of the ponds, lakes, and seas of the Plymouth area.

He is survived by his father and mother, William Maynard of Oneonta and Laureen Maynard of Plymouth, Mass.; his brothers, Mark and Matthew Maynard of Oneonta; and his sister, Annie Lecompte-Maynard of Franklin. He leaves behind many close friends in Oneonta, Worcester, N.Y., and Plymouth who will miss him deeply and remember him fondly with both love and laughter.

Friends and family may call at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, Mass., on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, between the hours of 2 and 4 in the afternoon, as well as 7 and 9 in the evening.

The funeral service will be conducted by Fr. Bryan Parrish at the Cartmell Funeral Home on Friday morning, Nov. 16, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will immediately follow the funeral ceremony at the Vine Hills Cemetery, Route 44, Plymouth, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Michael Maynard Memorial Fund, care of Worcester Central School, 198 Main St., Worcester, NY 12197.

A local memorial service for Michael will take place some time in early December, with details made public at a later date.

Iva B. Ellis

SIDNEY — Iva B. Ellis, 93, of Sidney, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Sidney.

She was born Oct. 8, 1908, daughter of the late Van D. and Mae Cornell Birdsall in Sidney.

Iva married J. Alton Ellis on Aug. 30, 1937, in Sidney. He predeceased her on July 24, 1965.

She was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix when she retired on Feb. 28, 1974.

Iva was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sidney.

She is survived by her son, James Alton Ellis Jr., Worcester; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lavancia and Richard Chubb, Hollywood, Md., and Sharon and Roger Terry, Calabash, N.C.; stepdaughter, Junne Ellis,  Oklahoma City, Okla.; one granddaughter; three grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Sidney, officiating.

Visitation before the service will begin at noon on Thursday.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Sidney.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Sidney Swiphas

EARLVILLE — A graveside memorial service for Sidney Swiphas of Earlville, who passed away on Nov. 3, 2001, will take place this morning, Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at 10 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. James Barnes, pastor of the Jordanville Federated Church, officiating.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Florence Denton

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Florence Alice Denton, 72, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev.

She was born in Exeter, Pa., on Sept. 21, 1929, to Anthony and Bridgid Kucharski.

She graduated from Exeter High School and received a bachelor of science degree in education from East Stroudsburg State College in 1951.

On Aug. 16, 1952, she married William D. Denton in Exeter, Pa.

She then studied at  Pennsylvania State University and received a master's degree in mathematics education from St. Lawrence University in 1967.

She taught mathematics in  Pennsylvania, and at Oneonta Junior High School and Franklin Central School. After retiring from education, she worked for Wilber National Bank in Oneonta, N.Y., until her retirement in 1997, after which she and her husband relocated to Las Vegas.

Florence is survived by her husband, William; son, Alan of Lynn, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mark Thurber of Las Vegas, daughter, Dee Ann of St. Petersburg, Fla., daughter, Nancy of New Hope, Pa.; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Joseph Benson of Waterford, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas, NV (702) 464-8480, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service. Interment will be at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, Nev.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Carmel D. Riche

ONEONTA — Carmel D. Riche, formerly of Cooperstown, died at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001. She was 90 years old.

Miss Riche was born on Aug. 13, 1911, in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island, the fourth child of Angelo and Anna Riche (Ricci).

She was a graduate of Curtis High School and the Oneonta Normal School (1932).

After teaching for several years and then working as a stenographer, she became a legal secretary for the California  Texas Oil Co. (CALTEX) Manhattan in 1950. She retired in 1976 and remained in Manhattan for several years before moving to Southampton, then Norfolk, Va., and finally to Cooperstown, where she lived at the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home until this past May.

In her younger years she was an excellent bowler.

She is the loving aunt (Zizi) and "Auntie Mame" of Ronald J. and Shirley Catella of Littleton, Mass., Diane Catella and Dr. James Iandiorio of Oneonta, and Dr. Phil Riche, Rocco Riche, and Dr. Janet Riche Piedilato.

She is the beloved great-aunt of Lisa Catella, Ricci J. Catella, Nanine Catella DiGiovanni, David Louis Iandiorio, Gianina Iandiorio Gohde, Dr. Michelle J. Iandiorio, and Peter Anthony Iandiorio. She is also a great-grand aunt.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel and Filomeno Riche; her sister, Marie Riche Sedutto; and five nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at Saint Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake," Church in Cooperstown, on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at 11 a.m., with the Revs. John Rosson and John Roos officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake," Church, 31 Elm St., Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home in Oneonta.

John B. Gennarino

UNADILLA — John B. Gennarino, 77, of Unadilla, N.Y., and formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Oneonta, N.Y., the son of Giovanni and Marianna (Tanzini) Gennarino.

He was married to Ellen M. Woods, Aug. 3, 1991, in Sidney, N.Y.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

John had been a resident of Unadilla for 10 years and had previously lived in Oneonta. For many years he was co-owner of Molinari's Restaurant of Oneonta and was employed as a chef at the Holiday Inn and Christopher's Restaurant in Oneonta.

He was a member of the VFW Post #2752 of Milford, American Legion Post #1566 of Milford and the Sidney Moose Lodge #277.

John is survived by his wife, Ellen M. Gennarino of Unadilla; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stephen and Libby Gennarino of Maryland and John P. Gennarino of Rochester; three daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Gennarino of Rochester, Rhys Dipalma of Oneonta and Sheila and Bruce Latone of Rochester; a stepson Ricky  Woods of San Diego,  Calif.; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Beth and John Madsen of San Diego,  Calif., and Phyllis and Stan Nordberg of Unadilla; two brothers and sisters-in-law Ralph and Betty Gennarino of Stow, N.Y., and Lawerence and Althea Gennarino of Oneonta; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine Biss of Hollidaysburg, Pa., Frances and Raymond Hodges of Pine Bush, N.Y., and Amelia and Frank Malzone of Needham, Mass.; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at the First Congregational Church, Sidney, N.Y., with the Rev. Pat Robinson, interim pastor, and the Rev. Fr. Joseph J. Schuck officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons, N.Y.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Sidney, N.Y., or Catskill Area Hospice Inc. of Oneonta, N.Y.

Arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, N.Y.
