Robert Palmatier

WALTON — Robert David Palmatier, 29, of Walton, died tragically on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001.

Rob was a 1990 graduate of Walton Central School. He was a dedicated father who loved to snowmobile and was also involved in many sporting activities. He was employed at the Mead Corp. in Sidney.

Rob is survived by his son, Payton Robert Dennis; parents, David and Gladys Palmatier; grandmother, Sue Palmatier; brother, Brian Palmatier; two sisters, Haley Gransbury and Tina Palmatier; nephew, Tyler, and niece, Jordynn Palmatier; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Clifford Palmatier, and maternal grandparents, Leonard and Lucille Grossmann.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lyon Bros.-Way Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and 102 Delaware Streets in Walton, where friends may call Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Edward Ryan officiating.

Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Roy Biedenkapp

BLENHEIM — Roy Biedenkapp, 89, of Blenheim, died at his residence on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001. He was born in Queens, N.Y., on June 12, 1912, and had been an area resident for many years.

Roy was a retired wholesale distributor of pies and cakes, in addition to owning and operating a delicatessen and grocery store.

He was the devoted husband of Florence, who predeceased him in 1990.

He is survived by his son, Ronald of Spring Hill, Fla. Also surviving are two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, at 40 Main St., (corner of Liberty Street) in Stamford, on Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Funeral services will be private.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home under the direction of William A. Tari.

Elaine M. Robinson

JEFFERSON — Elaine May Trombley Robinson, 65, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001.

She was the wife of Laurence Robinson of  Jefferson and mother of Mary Wheeler of Mechanicville. She is also survived by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be private.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, Schoharie office, 1 MacArthur Ave., Cobleskill, NY, 12043.

Arrangements were by Cremation Funeral Service of Delmar.

Nadine Couse

MILFORD CENTER — Mrs. Nadine Grace Couse, 64, of Milford Center, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001.

She was born on Feb. 1, 1937, in Burlington Green, a daughter of Hanford and Lillian (Clum) Richards.

Nadine attended schools in Hartwick.

She married Glenn Couse on July 24, 1954.

Mrs. Couse spent most of her time raising her family, but did work at the Upstate Home for Children for 10 years. She and her family have resided in Milford Center for the past 35 years.

Nadine enjoyed crocheting, holidays with family and friends and devoted herself to her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Glenn; a daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Dennis  White of Laurens; four sons, Donald Couse of Portlandville, David and Mary Couse of Unadilla, Dennis Couse of Oneonta and Dale Couse and Ruth of Milford; three grandsons, David and Phil Couse of Richmond, Va., and Shawn Callahan of Oneonta; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Evelyn Jacobs of Cherry Valley, Wanda Aney of Milford Center and Betty and Walter Wahl of Madison; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Maryann Richards of Oneonta and Neil and Dorothy Richards of Milford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Carlon Richards.

A funeral service will be on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, with the Rev. Robert Kazinski, pastor of the Milford United Methodist Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.Burial will be in the spring in the Milford Center Cemetery.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Peter Mahnken

ROXBURY — Peter Craig Mahnken, 50, of Roxbury passed away Dec. 9, 2001, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born March 14, 1951, in Brooklyn, the son of Frederick G. Mahnken and Patricia Blake. He enlisted in the Army in 1971, and served for 14 months.He was a self-employed locksmith.

Peter had lived in the Roxbury and Margaretville area for a number of years.

He is survived by children, Dylan and Lainie of the Bronx, and by children Jessica, Veronica, Matthew and their mother, Brenda Mahnken, of Roxbury; father, Frederick G. Mahnken of Long Island; brothers, Rick, Kenny, Michael of Brooklyn and Thomas Mahnken of New Jersey; three grandchildren; sisters, Judith Mahnken of Brooklyn and Patricia Geis of Germany. He is also survived by his extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother and a brother, Marc Mahnken.

There will be a prayer service on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at 4 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard A. Dykstra officiating. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial will be private and at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Carolyn MacBlain

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Carolyn Joan MacBlain, 65, of Little Lakes Road, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 7, 2001.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1936, in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Charles and Margaret  Schmidt Krausen.

Carolyn was raised in Brooklyn and was a graduate of New York City Public Schools.

In 1956, she married Charles G. Albert in Valley Stream, Long Island. A loving and devoted union of 39 years until his passing in 1995.

For 10 years Mrs. MacBlain was a clerical worker for the Mirabito Fuel Company, retiring in 1993.

On March 18, 2000, she married Ralph MacBlain in New Berlin. He passed away on Dec. 7, 2001.

Carolyn had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life.

Surviving are three sons and their wives, Charles and Joan Albert of Medford, Long Island, James and Joan Albert of Meridian, Miss., and Michael and Karen Albert of Selden, Long Island; two stepsons, Ralph F. and his wife, Patricia MacBlain of Smyrna and Peter MacBlain and his companion, Elaine Long of Richfield Springs; three stepdaughters, Pamela and her husband, Richard Brown of South New Berlin, Lisa and her husband, Ernie Ward of Jordanville, and Shelly Montgomery and her companion, Larry Harrington of New Berlin; five grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will take place on Monday (today) at 4 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The family will be present in the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral to receive relatives and friends 3 until 4 p.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Mary A. Bobone

CLIFTON PARK — Mary A. McShane Bobone, 74, of Able Drive, formerly of Schenectady, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Schuyler Ridge Nursing, Clifton Park.

She was born on March 7, 1927, in Springfield Center, daughter of the late Edwin and Celia McKelvey McShane.

She was raised in Springfield Center and was a graduate of Springfield Center High School.

Mary was first married to John McCarthy, who preceded her in death.

A resident of Schenectady since 1954, she was a self-employed New York state-licensed masseuse and had worked at various well- known health resorts.

On Dec. 31, 1974, she married Renato Bobone in Schenectady, a loving and devoted union of 24 years until his passing on Feb. 20, 1999.

In her leisure time she was a master gardener, artist and woodworker. She was a member of the Unitarian Church in Schenectady.

Surviving her are one son, William A. McCarthy of Springfield Center; three sisters, Betty Shaw and her husband, James of Schenectady, Laura McShane Carter of Springfield Center and Jane Dingman and her husband, Lowell, of Philadelphia; two grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside memorial service will be at noon Friday in the Springfield Center Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Springfield Center Cemetery Association.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Virginia Terpenning

NORTH, S.C. — Virginia Bresee Terpenning, born in Herkimer, N.Y., on July 6, 1913, died in North, S.C., on Dec. 6, 2001.

She was a graduate of Oneonta High School and St. Lawrence University.

She was married for 63 years to George Terpenning, who died in 2000. During her married life she lived in New York City, New Jersey, Belgium, England, Australia, Cooperstown and Stroudsburg, Pa., before moving last year after her husband's death to North, S.C.

She is survived by two children, Diane, wife of Adrian, Thoman of North, S.C., and Linda, wife of Roderick, Gunn of Wyncote, Pa. She is also survived by a sister, Jeanne, wife of Clyde, Bates of Madison, Conn.; and a brother, Jack, husband of Janet, Bresee of Oneonta; and a sister-in-law, Ella Rutan of Sebring, Fla.; as well as seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Her daughter, Betty Jeanne Sistrunk, died in 1995.

June W. Ritton

WESTFORD — June W. Ritton, 75, passed away at home peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, after a long illness.

She was born June 5, 1926, in Westford, the daughter of H. Thomas and Georgia (Roseboom) Williams.

She married Kenneth Ritton on June 11, 1946.

Mrs. Ritton was a lifelong area resident. She recently retired from Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, where she was a nurse's aide.

She was a member of the Westford United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Club, Westford Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Westford Community Association and was a former Westford town clerk and volunteer for the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Ritton was active in all the activities and programs in her community. She was personally involved and cared for many Westford friends and neighbors. She will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by her children, Ralph and Teresa Ritton of Westford and their children, Kevin and Deborah Ritton, Brian and Dawn Ritton, Jason Ritton and his fiancι, Shana Reed, and Kimberlee Ritton; Milly and Bob Meiser of Westford and their children, Robert and Lauralynn Meiser and Christopher Meiser; Georgia and Larry Brown of Barrington, R.I., and their children, K. Patrick Brown and Maggie Brown; Joseph Ritton of Westford and his sons, Kyel and Theodore Ritton; Lana Smith of Richfield Springs and her daughters, Annette and Camille Smith; Betty and Tim Baxter of Westford and their sons, Jeremy, Jacob, Jordan and Jared Baxter; six great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Marion VanEtten of Westford, George Williams of Westford, Thomas Williams of Maryland and Lois Brunschmid of New Berlin; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She also leaves behind many caring friends in Westford and at the Bassett community.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, on Dec. 8, 1992; her granddaughter, Katherine Brown; and her brother, Gerald Williams.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at the Westford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Burke, pastor, and the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating.

There will be no calling hours and the burial will take place at the Westford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Westford United Methodist Church, Main Street, Westford, NY 13488 or the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co. at 155 Main St. in Worcester.

Ralph MacBlain

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Ralph MacBlain, 68, of Little Lakes Road, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 7, 2001.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1933, in Ilion, son of the late Alexander and Grace Guydits MacBlain.

Ralph was raised and educated in Ilion schools.

An honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, he served our country during the Korean War.

On July 13, 1957, he married Charlotte Petrie in Ilion, a loving union of 39 years until her passing on Nov. 12, 1996.

A resident of Richfield Springs since 1986, he came from the Bainbridge-Sidney area.

He had worked for the Norwich Shoe Company, retiring in 1977.

On March 18, 2000, he married Carolyn Albert in New Berlin. She passed away on Dec. 7, 2001, as a result of the automobile accident in which they were involved.

He was a member of the Cooperstown Veterans Club.

Ralph was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving him are two sons, Ralph F. and his wife, Patricia, MacBlain of Smyrna and Peter MacBlain and his companion, Elaine Long, of Richfield Springs; three daughters, Pamela and her husband, Richard Brown, of South New Berlin, Lisa and her husband, Ernie Ward, of Jordanville, and Shelly Montgomery and her companion, Larry Harrington, of New Berlin; three stepsons and their wives, Chuck and Joan Albert of Long Island, James and Joan Albert of Mississippi, Michael and Karen Albert of Long Island; one brother, David and his wife, Fran MacBlain of Norwich; 12 grandchildren, Pam Clark, Penny Snyder, Samantha, Gerald and Sabrina Corn, Nicole and Holly MacBlain, Zachary Baker, John Baker III, Ernest Ward Jr., Christopher and Chad Montgomery; five stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents and wives, Charlotte and Carolyn, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alex MacBlain and a sister, Jessie Stedge.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. William Harkins, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs, officiating.

The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p,m. Tuesday.

Interment in Lakeview Cemetery will be next spring.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Mary A. Bobone

CLIFTON PARK — Mary A. McShane Bobone, 74, of Able Drive, formerly of Schenectady, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Schuyler Ridge Nursing, Clifton Park.

Clara B. Beames

ONEONTA — Clara B. Beames, 86, of Oneonta, formerly of Otego, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Halcott Center, the daughter of Benjamin and Pearl (Sherwood) Ballard.

She was the widow of the late Glenn Beames.

Clara had been the owner of The Otego Home for Adults, now known as Gardenview Manor, in Otego from 1968-1975. She had also worked for Bendix Corp. in Sidney, and assisted on the family farm in Otego for a number of years.

After retiring, she spent the winters in Florida.

She was an avid gardener and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Clara is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard and Sydney Beames of Afton, Berton and Vicki Beames of Otego, and Ann Beames of Afton; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Francis Secor of Otego. Also survived by 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband, Glenn; and two sons, Kenneth Wayne Beames and Robert Beames.

Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St., Otego, with the Rev. Fred Albrecht, pastor of the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego, officiating.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home in Otego on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be present at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the spring at Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be given to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 1364, Oneonta, NY 13820 in memory of Clara B. Beames.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta and Otego.
