Gerald H. Puffer

WYLIE,  Texas — Gerald H. Puffer, 57, of Wylie,  Texas, went to be with Jesus on Dec. 10, 2001.

He was born in Walton on April 8, 1944.

He lived for many years in Walton then St. Petersburg, Fla., before moving to  Texas.

He worked many years in the grocery business in Walton. He was an auto mechanic for many years before health problems made him disabled.

He was a member of the U.S. Army many years ago.

He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and quick wit. He had a generous heart and was always willing to help others.

He was predeceased by his father, Harold H. Puffer in 1984.

He is survived by his mother, Lottie S. Puffer, Walton; his daughter, Tia Wright of Columbus, Ohio; and a son, Timothy Puffer in North Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Allen (Patricia) Miner in Wylie,  Texas; two nephews, Daniel and Timothy Miner of Austin,  Texas; a niece, Nancy Miner in New York; and several cousins.

Funeral services were held Dec. 13, 2001, at the Allen Funeral Home in Wylie,  Texas. Burial will be in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Arlington,  Texas.

Those wishing to do so, may contribute to the American Heart Association in Jerry's memory.

Helen A. Sprague

BAINBRIDGE — Helen A. Sprague of Bainbridge died on Dec. 8, 2001, at her residence.

She was born in Hazel, the daughter of George H. and Ida Mae (Grant) Bennett.

She was married on June 14, 1932, to Roy L. Sprague in Hancock, by the Rev. Devello S. Haynes.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roy; stepson, Daniel Sprague; and brothers, George and Harry Bennett.

She is survived by her nephews and nieces, George Bennett of Rutherford, N.J., Bernadine Drake of Hancock, Lloyd Bennett of Lake Como, Pa., Carol Peterson of Walton, and Gary Bennett of Walton; and several great-nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Dorothy Memorial Home, 58 West Main St., Bainbridge. The funeral will be on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Dorothy Memorial Home, Bainbridge, with the Rev. Anthony Hipes officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Hancock.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nick E. Ferrentelli and Arthur N.  Jones and the Dorothy Memorial Homes of Afton and Bainbridge.

June D. Robinson

WESTFORD — June D. Robinson, 60, of Westford, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 11, 2001, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

June was born on June 15, 1941, in Hollowville, a daughter of Walter R. and June (Thein) Dieterle.

She married Arthur C. ("Robbie") Robinson on May 22, 1974, in Guilderland. Arthur died on Aug. 11, 1989.

Raised in Cooperstown, June attended the Cooperstown United Methodist Church in her youth.

She attended the Cooperstown Central School, serving as a telephone operator during her senior year and graduating with the Class of 1959.

She then worked as an underwriter for an insurance company in Utica. From October of 1970 until July of 1993 she was employed by Matthew Bender and Company, Inc. in Menands, a publisher of law books. In September of 1994, she joined the staff of the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta as a cashier, and later advanced to become a patient billing representative.

June was very fond of and an avid collector of antiques.

She is survived by her mother, June Dieterle of Schenectady; her longtime companion, Jack Kirkpatrick, of Westford; her two sisters, Holly Griffith of Albany and Catherine Snyder of Stuart, Fla.; her two brothers, Charles Dieterle of Lemon Grove,  Calif., and Lester F. Dieterle of Ballston Spa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother, Walter R. Dieterle Jr.; and two nephews, Ryan and Scott Dieterle.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, with the Rev. M. Lynn Snyder, pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Westville Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 11 a.m. until service time, when June's family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Susquehanna SPCA, 4841 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326, or to a charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Doris B. Root

WEST EDMESTON — Doris B. Root, 84, of West Edmeston, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at home.

She was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Brookfield, the daughter of John and Sarah (Brown) Burch.

On April 7, 1939, in Madison, she married Horace Root, who survives.

Doris was very active in the First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and Good News teacher.

Most importantly, Doris was devoted to her daughter, Karen, and was very close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Tom VanBrink of West Edmeston; and her daughter, Karen, at home. Doris is also survived by her grandchildren and their husbands, Brenda and Darren Belden of West Edmeston and Connie and Don Snell of Norwich; and her great-grandchildren, Chris, Erica, Bradley and Amanda Belden and Amber Snell. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Madaline and Fred Hurlbutt; and her sisters-in-law, Wanda Burch and Lucy Finch.

Doris was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Ralph Burch; and her sister, Thelma Jones.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in West Edmeston, with Pastors Don Buck and Don Matson officiating. Burial will follow at the West Edmeston Cemetery. Calling hours are from noon until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the First Baptist Church Music Fund or the West Edmeston Fire Department.

Joseph R. Divendra

HULL, Mass. — Joseph R. Divendra, 67, of Hull, Mass., and Worcester, N.Y., passed away Dec. 7, 2001.

He was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Boston, Mass.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Divendra, they were married for 50 years; children, Frances Viola, Plymouth, Mass., Charles R. Divendra, Hull, Mass., Teresa Loftus, Oneonta, N.Y., and Jean Divendra, Oneonta, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his children, Marie Null and Joseph C. Divendra, both of Hull, Mass.

Joseph worked for 25 years for Boston Iron Works, Boston, Mass.

He owned and operated Holbrook Liquors for five years in Holbrook, Mass. Also, he owned and operated Gigi's Tavern and Pizza in Laurens, N.Y., for three years.

He loved to play golf and spend lots of time with his family and friends at his cabin in Worcester, N.Y. He will be missed by all.

Funeral will be private with family in Quincy, Mass.

Basil A. Hait

ROXBURY — Basil A. Hait, 77, of Roxbury, passed away Dec. 12, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Roxbury, the son of Alonzo Hait and Mary Chase.

He married Catherine DelGiudice on June 8, 1952, in the United Methodist Church on Roxbury.

He was a machine operator for Daitch Dairies in Roxbury. He retired in 1986, after 29 years.

He graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1941.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Roxbury.

Basil enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a super dad and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Hait of Roxbury; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Joe Albano of Grand Gorge, and Christy and Jason O'Donnell of Roxbury; one sister, Elsie Brownell of Grand Gorge; four grandchildren, Rosie and Jody Albano and Bailey and Beau O'Donnell.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Roxbury, with the Rev. Charles Gockel and the Rev. Richard Dykstra, officiating.

Calling hours will be Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.

Burial will be in Roxbury Cemetery in Roxbury.

Contributions may be made in memory of Basil Hait to the Roxbury Fire Department Ambulance Fund.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Fred Britt

WALTON — Fred Britt, 82, of Walton, died Dec. 12, 2001, at Wilson Hospital.

Fred was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Cortland, the son of Cornell and Mary Dunbar Britt.

He married Janet H. Hammond on June 27, 1945, in Cortland.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and William Sperry of Unadilla, a sister, Helen Hammond of Cortland; and two nieces and a nephew.

He was employed by S.J. Bailey's & Sons in Walton for more than 25 years.

At Fred's request, there will be no calling hours.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Contributions may be sent to Christ Episcopal Church, Walton in the name of Fred Britt.

Roger Dean Olin

NEW BERLIN — Roger Dean Olin, 58, of Route 8 in New Berlin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at his home after a valiant battle with cancer. He is at peace with the Lord.

He was born in Greene on May 5, 1943, the son of Clifford L. and Dorothy (Bunce) Olin.

Roger was a graduate of Afton High School with the Class of 1961.

He served with the United States Air Force from 1961 until his discharge in 1965.

In 1965, he began an 18 year career with Raymond Corp. in Greene, and in 1985, Roger and his wife, Carol, purchased Sickler Memorials in New Berlin. In addition Roger was a New York state-certified real estate appraiser, working with his son at C.F. Olin Appraisal Service since 1992.

He was a member of St. Theresa's Church in New Berlin and of the New Berlin Rotary Club.

Roger was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed golfing with his family. His greatest love was his family.

On May 25, 1963, in Assumption Church in Syracuse, Roger married Carol A. Benz Olin, who survives. Additionally, he is survived by two sons and their wives, Clifford F. and Kimberlee Olin of Afton and Gary P. and Laura Lee Olin of Georgetown; one daughter, Kimberly A. Smith and her husband, Peter, of Burlington Flats; six grandchildren, Amy and Matthew Olin of Afton, Christopher, Nikole and Jason Olin of Georgetown, and Sydney Lynn Smith of Burlington Flats; five sisters, Wilma Davis and Virginia Alger of Brisben, Leone Finch of Page Brook, Giva West of Albuquerque, N.M., and Barbara Hurlburt of Greene. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Russell.

A Mass of resurrection for Roger will be held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church in New Berlin. Burial will take place in the spring in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich. Friends are invited to call at the Devine-Wilson Memorial Home in Norwich on Sunday, Dec. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Roger may be made to the St. Theresa's Altar and Rosary Society, care of Maria Wilcox, P.O. Box 119, New Berlin, NY 13411, or to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.

Michael A. Pedulla

MARGARETVILLE — Michael A. Pedulla, 47, of Margaretville, passed away Dec. 11, 2001, at Albany Medical Center in Albany after a sudden illness.

He was born July 18, 1954, in Margaretville, the son of Joseph Pedulla and Tressa Pugliese.

He was a well-known drummer and had played in several bands.

He was a lifelong area resident.

He is survived by three children, Tressa, Genevieve and Michael Pedulla; two brothers, Joe Pedulla of Salt Lake City, and Stephen Pedulla, Peru; also by nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate the life of Michael A. Pedulla will be held at a date to be announced in the summer of 2002.

Arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

William Rumpf

NALCREST, Fla. — Mr. William G. "Bill" Rumpf, 82, of Nalcrest, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at the Lake Wales Medical Centers, (Pneumonia.)

He was born Oct. 3, 1919, in the Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Nalcrest, Fla., 16 years ago from Worcester, N.Y.

He was a retired grocer for A&P Tea Co.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lake Wales, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Rumpf of Nalcrest, Fla.; daughters, Carol (Keith) Lunn, Morrisonville, N.Y., Linda (David) Bunn of Moreau, N.Y., Janice (Larry) Hyde of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Debbie (Ed) Miles, Winthrop, Maine; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Doughney, of Chicago and Alice Dillon, Tampa, Fla.

He was predeceased by his father, Gustav Rumpf; mother, Catherine (Griffin) Rumpf; sisters, Alice Rumpf and Catherine Conover; brothers, Charles Rumpf and Bernard Rumpf.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at noon at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with Fr. Leo Dobo as celebrant. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until the service time.

Further services will be announced in South Glens Falls, N.Y.

Memorials of remembrance may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 9365 U.S. Highway 19 North, Suite B, Pinellas Park, Fla. 33782.

Douglass G. Washburn

MOUNT VISION — Douglass George Washburn, 82, of Mount Vision, left us on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Fox Hospital to be with the Lord.

He was born Oct. 15, 1919, in North Jackson, Pa., the son of Harold and Gladys (Wimple) Washburn.

He married Gertrude Yager on Dec. 2, 1939, in Hartwick. During WWII he worked as a machinist at the Scintilla plant in Sidney. He was an electrical and plumbing contractor for many years as well as working for the New Lisbon highway department. He managed the Elmore Feed Store in Morris for 19 years and most recently he was a security officer for Hartwick College, a position he held for 191/2 years.

Doug was well known for his love of hunting and the great outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gertrude; their children, Margaret Averall and her husband, Jeffrey of Mathews, N.C., Phyllis House and her husband, Harold, of Milford, N.Y., Richard Washburn and his wife Gloria of Farmington, N.Y., and William Washburn and his wife Wendy; a brother, Norman Washburn of Manakin, Va.; two sisters, Onley Kline of Edmeston, N.Y. and Mary Hungerford of Garrattsville, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Melvin Douglass Washburn, and a brother, Francis (Bud) Washburn, predeceased him.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Bible Baptist Church of Mount Vision on Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Chris Ellis officiating.

Committal services and interment will be in Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

It is requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Garrattsville Emergency Squad in loving memory of Douglass G. Washburn.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
