Evelyn Zudock

FLEISCHMANNS — Evelyn Zudock, 63, of Bruce Scudder Road in Fleischmanns, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at her residence.

She was born May 26, 1938, in Port Chester to Walter Lee Willig and Edith Antoinette Doscher.

She received her associate's degree in accounting at Delhi Tech in 1996 and worked for Frost Valley YMCA Camp until her retirement in the fall of 2000.

She lived in Halcott since 1982 on her beloved farm, moving to this area from Staten Island.

She was a member of Northern Catskill Fiber Guild, Horsemen's Association and Catskill Writers Group. Evelyn also enjoyed singing in the chorale.

She is survived by three children, Andrew Verhey and his wife, Pam, and their children Cody and Brooke, residing in Indiana, Vicki Yuen (formerly Verhey), her husband, Alan, and their three children, Kathryn, Zachary and Alexa, residing in Staten Island, Karina Antonette (formerly Zudock), her fiance, Jonathon, and her daughter, Zoey, residing in Highmount.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Halcott Methodist Church, Halcott Center, with the Rev. Ralph Darmstadt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Delaware County Hospice or the Delhi Humane Society.

Arrangement were by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, N.Y.

Virginia Williams

WALTON — Virginia S. Williams, a longtime resident of Griswold Street, Walton, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Crest Manor Nursing Rome in Fairport.

She was born July 17, 1913, in Walton, the daughter of John and Hazel Wilson Schlafer. A 1931 graduate of Walton High School, she studied dental hygiene at Eastman Dental Dispensary in Rochester. She was employed at dental offices in Delhi and Walton and at the Walton High School.

In 1940, she married Dan C. Williams. He predeceased her in 1977.

Mrs. Williams was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Walton, and Eastern Star for many years. She was involved in a wide range of community activities and was known for her adventurous spirit and love of life.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ron Olson, of Fairport; a brother, Dr. Reynold Schlafer and wife, Ruth, of Pinehurst, N.C.; a sister, Margaret Shepard, of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother-in-law and wife, Richard and Phyllis Williams, of Walton; and her granddaughter, Mrs. Sharon (Darryl) Howes, and three great-grandchildren, residing in Barker.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clark & Winter Funeral Home in Walton.

Funeral services and burial will be Tuesday at Walton Cemetery at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Chervell Council officiating.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Walton, the Walton Emergency Squad or to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Route 10, Delhi NY 13753.

Phyllis Christman

MIDDLEFIELD — Phyllis A. Christman passed away at M.I. Bassett Hospital on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, after a hard and courageous battle with COPD and cancer, surrounded by her family and her dearest friend in life, Connie Caruth.

She was born at the county hospital in Index, on June 8, 1933, to Frank and Alice (Long) Bryant.

She attended school in Hartwick and Cooperstown.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Edward Christman, in 1999; her parents, Frank and Alice Bryant; her son, Alexander Frank Christman; her three granddaughters, Melissa and Dawn Webster and Megan Hotaling; her brother, Harold Bryant; her sister-in-law, Emily Eckler; and her two brothers-in-law, Alexander and John Christman.

She lived most of her married life in Middlefield.

She was a housekeeper by trade.

Her greatest love in her life was her family and she took great joy in watching them grow up with families of their own. She greatly enjoyed her nightly card games with her grandson Lucas.

She enjoyed being a gambler. She often went to Bingo Nights at the Middleficld Firehouse, played Lotto and she especially enjoyed scratch-off cards. She also enjoyed playing cards and going shopping with her daughter Pam.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and will be remembered most for the continuity and support she gave her family.

Remember Phyllis with love by cherishing the meaning of family and the love that makes them a family.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce Christman of Hartwick and Alan and Melinda Christman of Schenevus; her daughters, Thomas and Merri (Christman Hendricks) Darling of Middlefield, George and Dale (Christman) Webster of South Valley, Elizabeth Christman of Middlefield and Timothy and Pamela (Christman) Hotaling of Middlefield; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; also her adopted sister, Connie Caruth of New Mexico; her brother, Bob Bryant of Middlefield; her sisters, Grace Talbot of Oneonta, Arlene Caputo of  Pennsylvania, Irene Yerry of Johnstown and Fred and Marion (Bryant) Gillette of West Winfield; her sisters-in-law, Don and Elizabeth Morris and Mrs. Janet (John) Christman and Mrs. Theresa (Alexander) Christman; and her brother-in-law, James and June Christman. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Ron Fralick, pastor of the Middlefield Church, will preside.

Calling hours with family in attendance will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home.

Following cremation, Phyllis will be buried in the Middlefield Cemetery, alongside her husband, Edward.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Patricia Thompson-Kierstead

MIDDLETOWN — Patricia Anne Thompson-Kierstead, 73, of Middletown died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at home.

She was born June 9, 1928, in Montpelier, Vt., to Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Thompson in Moretown, Vt. She had six brothers and sisters, all deceased, excepting Ralph Thompson of Burlington, Vt. Her sisters were Mrs. Grace Clark, Mrs. Ruth Johanson, Mrs. Eleanor Lawson and Mrs. Sylvia Tucker. Her brothers were Robert Thompson and Samuel Thompson

She met Reginald (Kurt) Kierstead while both were students at the University of Vermont and they were married on Aug. 10, 1946, in the Methodist Church in Lebanon, N.H. On Aug. 10, 2001, they celebrated their 55th anniversary.

The couple have two children, Susan Kierstead of Greenville, who has four children, Daryl Williams, David Williams, Scott Williams and Karen Williams. David Williams is married to the former Frances Conner and Scott is married to the former Shawntel Sheehan. Her son, Msgt. Thomas Kierstead, of the Azores is married to the former Mary McCracken. They have two sons, Douglas and Nicholas, and two daughters, Betsy and Melanie.

Patricia was a member of the Otisville Presbyterian Church, various school organizations and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She started work at the Balchem Corp. in Slate Hill, when there were fewer than 10, and worked there as payroll clerk and bookkeeper for 28 years.

Her joy in life was parties with her children and grandchildren. Every birthday and holiday was celebrated with wonderful foods.

An accomplishment of her life not family-related that pleased her the most was the renovation of the 1790 Dodge House in Mt. Hope. The results were publicized in the Times Herald Record's "Homes of Distinction" on Friday, Jan. 23, 1970. The home was opened for tours by the Orange County Society of Museums and Galleries to raise money for that organization.

Visitation hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Raltson-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, 72 West Main St., Middletown, N.Y.

Funeral serves will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Otisville-Mount Hope Presbyterian Church in Otisville.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Those who met Pat will attest to her positive and cheerful approach to life. Even in her final days of dealing with cancer pains, she still met doctors, nurses and friends with a cheerful smile and a wonderful greeting.

Please omit flowers. If people desire to make a contribution in Pat's memory, they can be made to the Memorial Committee at the Otisville Presbyterian Church in Otisville.

Funeral arrangements are by Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home Inc. in Middletown.

Leonard Faulkner

NEW KINGSTON — Leonard R. Faulkner, 72, of New Kingston, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Margaretville Memorial Hospital in Margaretville.

He was born Sept. 27, 1929, in New Kingston, son of Ralph O. and Helen Ruff Faulkner, and lived there his entire life.

He was a retired dairy farmer and current assessor for the town of Middletown.

He graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1948. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of New Kingston and the New Kingston Valley Grange.

He is survived by his son, James, and daughter-in-law, Pamela Faulkner, of Cabot, Ark.; daughters Janice Faulkner of Margaretville and Tracey and her husband, Thomas, Bowker of Mitchell, Ill.; his fiancι Doris Hosier of New Kingston; two grandchildren, Valerie Ann Bowker and Ivan Thomas Bowker; his brother, Douglas, and his wife, Fran, Faulkner of New Kingston.

He was predeceased by sisters Oril Lunn and Dorothy Lunn and brothers Kenneth Faulkner and Hillis Faulkner.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Presbyterian Church in New Kingston with Diane Wickham officiating.

Contributions in memory of Leonard Faulkner may be made to the United Presbyterian Church, the Ambulance Fund of the Margaretville Memorial Hospital or to the Margaretville Fire Department.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Walnut Street in Margaretville.

Frank S. Raymond

SCHENEVUS — Frank S. Raymond, 93, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at A.0. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born Nov. 17, 1908, in Manhattan, the son of Walter and Ethel (Raymond) Raymond.

He married Mildred E. Gorman on April 9, 1912. She predeceased him on Oct. 26, 1996.

Mr. Raymond was a trackman for New York Central Railroad in Croton-Harmon for 30 years.

He moved to Schenevus in 1969. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in West Oneonta.

He is survived by two sons, Frank Raymond of Morris and William and his wife, Eleanor, Raymond of Schenevus; two daughters, Carol Thompson of Peekskill and Charlotte Travis of Buchanan; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Mastronunzio of Monroe, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, West Oneonta, with President Mark S. Madero officiating.

Burial will be on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at the Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Raymond to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, PO Box 397, Morris, NY 13808.

Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St. in Schenevus, handled the funeral arrangements.

Marietta Banks

CONESVILLE — Marietta Banks, 84, died Sunday at Robinson Terrace in Stamford after a long illness.

She was a lifelong area resident, born May 3, 1917, in Decatur, the daughter of Marvin Banks and Anna Scott.

She was employed as a hand cutter by Greendell Packing in Prattsville for more than 27 years.

Marietta was predeceased by her longtime companion, Harold (Tom) J. Doyle.

She is survived by her two sons, Douglas (Carolyn) Doyle of Conesville and Roger (Jean) Doyle Sr. of Middleburgh; her daughter, Mavis (Russell) Miller, of Middleburgh; two sisters, Goldia Banks of Conesville and Laura Buell of Florida. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St. in Stamford, on Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Hall Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 31, with Pastor Elliot Oakes officiating.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

George E. Slater

PRATTSVILLE — George E. Slater, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Albany Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Mt. Kisco on Dec. 4, 1925. A veteran of World War II, George was an area resident for more than 20 years, relocating from Long Island.

He was predeceased by his wife, Delores, in 1976, and is survived by 11 children: Delores Tarlentino of Brentwood, Geri Howell of Stamford, George E. Slater Jr. of Shirley, Thomas F. Slater of Colonia, N.J., Rose Slater of Colorado, Joann LaPonte of North Carolina, Madeline Manfri of Lake Grove, Donna Slater of Las Vegas, Nev., Rudy Slater of Florida, Daniel Slater of Florida, Krystal Slater of Emerald Lakes, Pa.; and one sister, Rita Bock of Deposit. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St. in Stamford, on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Long Island National Cemetery in Pinelawn, Long Island.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Aloyslus A. Cain

WORCESTER — Aloyslus A. Cain, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

He was born April 6, 1917, in Manhattan.

There will be no calling hours and a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

George J. Uhl

ROXBURY — George J. Uhl, 91, of Roxbury, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Margaretville Memorial Hospital, Margaretville, N.Y.

The son of William Uhl and Louise Merker-Uhl, he was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 23, 1910.

He was married to Corynne S. Zimmerman on Jan. 30, 1932. The Uhls would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this week.

The Uhls had two daughters, Cynthia Louise Kuerer and Claudia Toenies. Cynthia lived in Teaneck, N.J., until her passing in April of 1988. Claudia resides with her husband, Stephen, in Houston, Mo.

The Uhls have five grandchildren, Cheryl Kuerer-Berg of Norwood, N.J., Henry Kuerer of Houston,  Texas, Claudine Triolo of Chiang Mai, Thailand, Tammy MacDougall of Glendale, Ariz., and Joseph Matthew Triolo of Jersey City, N.J. They also have three great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Lindsay Berg and Seth MacDougall.

Mr. and Mrs. Uhl lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., until 1970. Mr. Uhl had worked for Chase Manhattan Bank at its main office in New York City. When he retired he was an assistant vice president in the stock transfer department.

George was a swimming instructor for the blind in New York City and also a leader of the 23rd Street Boys Club, New York City, for several years.

In 1970, the Uhls moved to Roxbury where they lived in their home on Vega Road until last year. Most recently they resided at Kirkside of Roxbury. The Uhls were members of the Gould Memorial Dutch Reformed Church.

Mr. Uhl was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and his daughter, Cynthia. He is survived by his wife, Corynne Uhl; daughter, Claudia Toenies; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. at Jay Gould Reformed Church, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating.

Burial will be in the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.

The family will be present to receive callers at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Contributions in memory of George J. Uhl may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church, Roxbury.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Evelyn Haskins

GILBOA — Evelyn Haskins, 87, of Blue Hill Road, Gilboa, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at her home.

She was born Feb. 19, 1914, at Broome Center, Town of Gilboa, to Harry and Sarah (Buell) Young.

She married Leonard Haskins on Sept. 5, 1932, at Oak Hill, N.Y. He died July 8, 1987.

Evelyn was a cook at Gilboa Central School for several years. She also worked on the family farm and operated a boarding home. She was a caregiver to family and friends, talented seamstress and superb cook. Evelyn loved her family and enjoyed her garden and flowers.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and JoAnn Haskins, Reginald and Bertha Haskins, and Thomas and Patricia Haskins, all of Gilboa; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; and 19 stepgreat-grandchildren.

A funeral service for Evelyn will take place Thursday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Holiness Church, Grand Gorge, N.Y. with the Rev. Larry Major officiating.

Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville, N.Y., at a later date.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.

Contributions in loving memory of Evelyn Haskins may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
