NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Maurice U. Fontaine, 67, of Northampton, Mass., went into the arms of the Lord, on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at the Northampton Veterans Hospital, after a long illness.

Mary E. "Mickey" Frommer
HUDSON FALLS - Mary E. "Mickey" Frommer, 80, of Burgoyne Ave., went into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at her home, after a brief illness.

Born on Sept. 30, 1927, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Katherine (Casey) Kelley.

On Jan. 31, 1948, she married Orson Robison in Albany. He passed away in 1971, after 23 years of marriage. Her second husband, Edward Frommer, died on Jan. 9, 1994.

Marguerite "Peg" Ruttan
PORT HURON, Mich. - Mrs. Marguerite "Peg" Ruttan, 99, of Port Huron, Mich., for the past nine years, formerly of Detroit, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008.

She was born May 5, 1909, in Flint, Mich., to Benjamin and Alice Warner.

Mrs. Ruttan graduated from Northville High School and attended the Business Institute in Detroit.

George E. Shephard
Saratoga Springs - George E. Shephard, 86, a resident of Loughberry Mobile Home Park, and formerly of Lynbrook, N.Y., and Hawley, Pa., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs.

Born Aug. 29, 1922 in East Rockaway, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late George and Grace Lenihan Shephard.

George was always dedicated to his community as he first served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus St. Mary's Council in Lynbrook. He also volunteered as a fireman and went through the ranks and served as chief of the Lynbrook Fire Department, later moving to  Pennsylvania and becoming chief of the Lakeville Fire Department He was also the owner of Shephard Fuel in Lynbrook and owner of Shepards Marine in Hawley, Pa.

Floyd L. Russell Sr.
QUEENSBURY - Floyd L. Russell Sr., 77, of The Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Sherman Avenue, Queensbury, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Born Sept. 7, 1931 in Keeseville, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Ada M. (Belden) Russell.

After serving in the U.S. Army and being honorably discharged in December of 1952, he started working as a cement truck driver for Ashton Ready Mix when it was located on West Mountain Road, then for Pallettes Cement Company, being a member of Local Union No. 294 Teamsters, retiring in 1989 due to his illness.

Patricia Anne Farrell
North Creek - Patricia Anne Farrell, 58, a longtime resident at the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center, passed away, Saturday Sept. 13, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital with her family by her side.

Born Jan. 24, 1950 in Albany, she was the daughter of Mary C. Farrell of Indian Lake and the late Peter H. Farrell.

Patti enjoyed her time traveling to other countries as well as all 48 continental states. She lived and worked for several years in California.

William (Bill) Tracy
Adirondack - William (Bill) Tracy, 82, a resident of Adirondack, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at the Heritage Common Residential Health Care Facility in Ticonderoga.

Born on Oct. 11, 1925 in Yonkers, he was the son of the late Morris and Ester (Trazof) Itzkowitz.

William was a U.S. Navy veteran in the Pacific theater during WWII.

Martha Pugh Jensen
HUDSON, Fla. - Martha Pugh Jensen went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 12, 2008. She passed away at home in Hudson, Fla. in the loving arms of her children.

She was born in  White Plains, N.Y., Dec. 12 1924, the daughter of William E. and Dorothy E. Shoemaker.

Martha graduated from  White Plains High School in 1942. She took an extensive war training course in engineering at NYU during WWII and worked as a Navy inspector, traveling throughout the New York and New Jersey area, inspecting parts for government contracts.

Jack Grierson Wheeldon Sr.
Greenwich and Saratoga -- A memorial service, attended by many, was held last week to celebrate the life of Jack Grierson Wheeldon, Sr., 85, who died Sept. 4, 2008 at Saratoga Hospital.

Born Nov. 28, 1922, and raised in Eccles, Manchester, England, U.K., Jack apprenticed in a machine shop. He later served during WWII in the English Army as a paratrooper in the Purple Barret.

After the war, Jack and his two young children, Jack and Jean, were sponsored by his brother-in-law and sister, Donald and Irene Whiteside, to come to the United States. He was employed at Stevens and Thompson Paper Mill.

Betty J. Wilcox
FORT ANN -- Betty J. Wilcox, 63, of Burquist Road, Fort Ann, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at her home.

Arrangements are pending with Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

John Travis Mulligan
Queensbury -- John Travis Mulligan, 23, of Queensbury passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at the Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury.

Gerard A. Schuster
Warrensburg:

Gerard A. Schuster, 46, of Library Avenue, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, September 18, 2008, in the arms of his loving wife, Liz, after a courageous, four year battle with cancer.

Born February 7, 1962, Gerard grew up in Lake George, the son of the late George and Dorothy Schuster. Gerard is survived by his wife of 19 years, Elizabeth (Jones) Schuster. They have three beautiful children: Gabrielle, Zachary, and Joseph. Gerard is also survived by siblings, George Schuster, Doris Moon, Donie (Mary Ellen) Schuster, Dennis (Ruth) Schuster, Gail (Bill) Hans, and Gwen Dresser. Gerard was also loved by Liz's family: Theresa (Lee) Strasser, Susan (Robin) Seneff, Ann (Kevin) Quigley, Robert (Heather) Jones, Christopher (Kristine) Jones, Thomas (Michelle) Jones, and George "Buster" Boudreau...and by all thirty eight nieces and nephews.

South Glens Falls

Retired Navy Captain David J. Kobor, 70, of South Glens Falls, passed away Friday, September 19, 2008 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Friends and family may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY.

Clyde C. Butterfield
HUDSON FALLS -- Clyde C. Butterfield, 90, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Friday Sept. 19, 2008, at The Fort Hudson Health Care Facility after a short illness.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Ralph S. Tulsa
Fruitland Park, Fla. -- Mr. Ralph S. Tusa, 81, of Fruitland Park, Fla., passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, in the Leesburg, Fla., Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in the village of Champlain, N.Y., on Feb. 16, 1927, the son of Richard and Agnes (Ashline) Tusa.

Ralph retired from the Plattsburgh News Company after a long-term career as their general manager. He was a very talented musician and for many years enjoyed working as a bass guitarist with several bands in area clubs.

Lillian Agnes Bishop Crannell
QUEENSBURY - Lillian Agnes Bishop Crannell, 93, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

She was born April 10, 1915, in Glens Falls, the daughter of the late John and Jennie (Woodward) Bishop.

Mrs. Crannell was a Deaconess in the First Baptist Church of Glens Falls and served as treasurer of the Eastern Star.

Joyce P. Clear Spoor
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. and SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Joyce P. (Clear) Spoor, 79, of Delray Beach, Fla. and formerly of Merritt Road, in South Glens Falls, N.Y. passed away on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at her home in Florida.

Born on Oct. 15, 1928, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Vivian (Belden) Clear.

On May 17, 1952, she married J. Glenn Spoor in St. Mary's Church in Hudson Falls.

Keith R. Short
QUEENSBURY - Keith R. Short, 72, died Monday evening, Sept. 22, 2008, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., after a long illness

Born on Aug. 5, 1936, in Schenectady, N.Y., he was the son of the late Claude and Ruth (Erikson) Short.

Keith was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School and retired from Ciba Geigy as a foreman after 32 years of employment. During retirement, he enjoyed his five years working with the Glens Falls Recreation Department.

Jane Hurley Malone
SARASOTA, Fla. - Jane Hurley Malone, 86, of Sarasota, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 16, 2008.

Mrs. Malone was born Dec. 2, 1921, in Glens Falls, N.Y., the daughter of the late Frank and Helen McLaughlin Hurley.

She graduated from Glens Falls High School and Russell Sage College. Jane was employed at Catholic Family Services in Schenectady, N.Y. as a social worker for 25 years and manager of Social Services and Discharge Planning at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady before moving to Florida in 1974.

Richard E. Rose
STILLWATER - Richard E. Rose, 38, of Maple Lane, died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at his place of work, from natural causes.

Born in Troy, Aug. 16, 1970, he is the son of Gerald (Mary Jean) Rose of Saratoga and Linda Hutton (Jim) Senecal of Greenwich.

A lineman for Joel Burgess and Statewide CATV of Stillwater for 20 years, Rich recently had helped at J B Asphalt of Mechanicville.

Mary Therese  White Flanders
GLENS FALLS - The family of Mary Therese  White Flanders, 90, is saddened to announce her passing on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at the Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Queensbury.

Born on Dec. 13, 1917, in Rome, N.Y., Mary was the daughter of the late Ray A. and Anna Maude (McCaffrey)  White.

She was a member of the 1935 graduating class at St. Aloysius Academy, Rome, N.Y., and The College of Saint Rose, Albany, Class of 1940. She did her post-graduate work at Syracuse University.

Thomas John Ackley
HUDSON FALLS - Thomas John Ackley, 60, of Mechanic Street, passed away on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Kingston Hospital after a long illness.

Arrangements are pending under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

Antonia "Yaya" Vamvalis
HUDSON FALLS - Antonia "Yaya" Vamvalis, 96, formerly of William Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Glens Falls Hosptial.

Born on June 18, 1912, in Goritsa, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Demetrios and Panagiota (Laskaris) Poulos.

On Jan. 18, 1931, she married Nicholas D. Vamvalis in Goritsa, Greece. He died on Aug. 2, 1964.

Eleanor M. (Brownell) Mayette
Saratoga Springs - Eleanor M. (Brownell) Mayette, 84, of Ruggles Road, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Saratoga Hospital following a long illness.

Born on July 3, 1924, in Greenwich, N.Y., she was the daughter of Henry W. and Beatrice (Severance) Brownell.

She grew up in Greenwich and was a longtime resident of Saratoga Springs.

Catharine E. "Cay" Rhymer
KINGSTON, N.Y. - Catharine E. "Cay" Rhymer, 88, a lifelong Kingston resident, died at The Benedictine Hospital on Friday Sept. 26, 2008. She was a former resident of Prince Street and most recently of Lucas Avenue, Kingston, N.Y.

She was born in Kingston, on Nov. 11, 1919, a daughter of the late Willis R. and Ethelinda Dell Locke.

Catherine was a graduate of Kingston High School and The Spencer Business School. Prior to marriage she was employed by The Daily Freeman. She was a member of The Reformed Church of The Comforter.
