Robert Lanfear
LAKE GEORGE - Robert H. Lanfear, 80, of Flat Rock Road, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 15, 1928, he was the son of the late William and Leona (Chase) Lanfear.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948.

Doris Evelyn Goodman
FORT ANN/SOUTH GLENS FALLS and VERO BEACH, Fla. - Doris Evelyn Goodman, 85, formerly of Fort Ann, left this world peacefully on Oct. 16, 2008, surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter, Doreen Dean.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1923, in Delouse, India, where her father was serving in the Northamptonshire Regiment of the Royal Army. Her birth was recorded in Lahore Cantonment (now Lahore, Pakistan). She was the daughter of Sgt. Ernest (Sam) Smith, RA, and Ellen (Nell) Smith.

Doris was a volunteer in the Women's Royal Airforce (WRAF) during World War II, serving as a radio operator and a barrage balloon handler. She met her husband, James D. Goodman II, when he was serving in the Army Air Corps in Blackpool, England, during World War II. They were married on Oct. 4, 1944, at St. James the Great Church in Paulerspury, England. Upon their discharge from the service, they moved to Fort Ann until 1995, when they became snowbirds and moved to Vero Beach, Fla., spending winters in Florida and summers at their daughter's home in South Glens Falls. Doris permanently moved to South Glens Falls after her husband passed away in 2005.

Susan (Eldridge) Crawford
Keeseville -- Susan (Eldridge) Crawford, 66, of Port Douglas Road, passed away peacefully, Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at her home after a long illness.

Born Oct. 3, 1942, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Elliott and Jane (Slavin) Eldridge.

Mrs. Crawford was a member of the Church of the North American Martyrs in Hudson Falls.

Joan Marie (Burch) Miller
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Joan Marie (Burch) Miller, 70, a former resident of Warrensburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, with her daughters, Brenda and Jo-Anne, at her side in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Born in Warrensburg, Feb. 19, 1938, she was the oldest daughter of Ray and Elizabeth (Weaver) Burch.

Joan attended Warrensburg Central School, and was employed at the Warrensburg Dress Factory.

Richard A. Mahler Sr.
Schroon Lake -- Richard A. Mahler Sr., 70, passed away suddenly late Friday afternoon, Oct. 17, 2008, at the Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga, N.Y.

Richard was born May 15, 1938 in Albany, N.Y., the son of the late Raymond H. Mahler and Doris Campbell Mahler.

Richard graduated from Pottersville High School and became a master carpenter and cabinet maker. He was self-employed for many years and also worked for many contractors in the area, most recently for Lee Surprenant in Schroon Lake.

Phyllis C. (Barrett) Bickford
FORT EDWARD -- Phyllis C. (Barrett) Bickford, of Fort Edward, passed away on Oct. 17, 2008, following a long illness.

Phyllis was born April 30, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

She was the daughter of the late Ellen (Carroll) and Philip Barrett.

Joan Beverly (Samson) Clark
NAPLES, Fla. -- Joan Beverly (Samson) Clark, 76 of Naples, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Physicians Regional Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Glens Falls on Feb. 15, 1932, the daughter of Walter and Viola (LaFontain) Samson.

Raised and educated in upstate New York, Joan graduated from Ellis School of Nursing in Hudson, N.Y., and married Lawrence Dolan in 1954, who later died.

Margaret L. Huffmire
Latham -- Margaret Louise Conway Huffmire, 86, passed away on Friday Oct. 17, 2008 at our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Guilderland, where she had been a resident for 9 years. She had previously lived on Holly Lane, Latham for 44 years.

She was born May 13, 1922 in Mechanicville to Edward Frances and Minnie Louise Eggleston Conway. She graduated in 1940 from Corinth High School. She received a B.A. degree from Syracuse University in 1945, majoring in social studies & education, and received her M.A degree in social studies from SUNY Albany in 1953.

On Jan. 26, 1946 she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life George Willard Huffmire, Jr. in the rectory of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Corinth. Margaret resided in Warrensburg at the time where she was teaching social studies in the Warrensburg School District. George was a Sergeant with the Army Air Force. Shortly after their marriage the Air Force transferred the couple to Bremen, Germany. Margaret returned to the states in 1947 to await the birth of their daughter, Pamela Jean, who was born Aug. 21, 1947. George continued to be transferred around the country with the Air Force. Margaret & her daughter remained in Corinth with her parents, teaching social studies at Corinth High School.

Alma F. Remsen
Cambridge -- Alma F. Remsen, 92, formerly of Pine Lane, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, where she had resided since February.

Born April 23, 1916, in Jamaica, Queens, she was the only child of William E. and Estelle Remsen.

Alma joined the Women's Army Corps and served from 1943 to 1945. She was stationed in New York City, where she was an ambulance attendant. Alma told how, following D-Day, she worked for a straight 72 hours when the Queen Mary arrived in New York Harbor with 3,000 wounded soldiers on board that had to be transported to the New York hospitals. After the war was over, Alma remained in the reserves, retiring in 1968 with a total of 25 years of service to her country.

Alexandra Renae Parker
Queensbury, N.Y. -- Alexandra Renae Parker, the infant daughter of Rachael Alcorace and David Parker, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Susan Alcorace, who died June 7, 2008, and her paternal grandfather, Lewis Parker.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her twin sister, Susan Margaret Parker; her maternal grandfather, Bernard Alcorace; her paternal grandmother, Yvonne Goedert; her uncles, Bernard J. Alcorace Jr., Jason P. Alcorace and Patrick Goedert; her aunts, Kelly S. Anthony, Nicole L. McGoldrick, Debbie Parker and Danielle Riley; her cousins, Kyla Anthony, Robert Behuniak, Lauren and Chase Alcorace, Sarah and A.J. Pratt, Ryan and Caroline McGoldrick, Joe Pashby, Cody and Steven Yousey, Jeffrey and David Riley and Keith and Kaitlyn Goedert.

Elizabeth LaPorte Fontaine
HUDSON FALLS -- Elizabeth LaPorte Fontaine, of John Street, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Arrangements are pending under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Virginia M. Palmatier
Corinth -- Virginia M. Palmatier, 84, a longtime resident of Hollister Road, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Saratoga Hospital Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.

A Memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church, 203 Palmer Ave., Corinth, with the Rev. John Aldridge, pastor, officiating.

Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the church, prior to the service.

Gloria Hedrick
RODMAN, N.Y. - Gloria A. Hedrick, 59, of 12444 School St., died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Cobbville Road, Adams Center, where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of  Jefferson County.

Born Sept. 7, 1949, in New York City, she was the daughter of Raymond Palmer and Evelyn McCullough.

She graduated in 1967, from Parishville High School.

Gaylord H. Clawson
INDIAN LAKE - Gaylord H. Clawson, age 70, of Sawmill Road, died Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 2008, at his home.

Gaylord's family has entrusted his care to Miller Funeral Home, 35 West Main St., Indian Lake.

Howard Butler
WEST FORT ANN - Howard H. Butler, 88, of Copeland Pond Road, West Fort Ann died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mason Funeral Home, Fort Ann, N.Y.

Kathryn McCarthy Shay
CAMBRIDGE - Kathryn McCarthy Shay, 71, of Madison Avenue, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008 at Pleasant Valley Adult Care Home in Argyle after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Robert Shay.

Born in Bennington, Vt., on July 16, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Ann Hendricks McCarthy. She graduated from North Bennington High School and from St. Joseph's Business College in Bennington.

She and Bob were married Oct. 7, 1961.

Louis Ciota
MONROE, N.Y. - Louis A. Ciota Jr., of Monroe, passed away Oct. 18, 2008, at the Mobay Hope Medical Center, Rose Hall, Jamaica, British West Indies.

He was born in Columbus, Ga., on Jan. 3, 1944.

He received his B.S. at Iona College in New Rochelle and his M.S. and Ed.D. at Fordham University, New York, N.Y.

Emma Belair
FORT EDWARD - Emma Catherine Belair, 94, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 2008, at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility.

Emma was born on Dec. 25, 1913. She was the daughter of the late George and Emma Carpenter.

Emma was communicant of St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls. She was also a member of the Rosary Altar Society, St. Ann Solidarity and Catholic Daughters of America.

Priscilla I. Rumpf
GREENFIELD CENTER - Priscilla I. Rumpf, 65, a longtime resident of Brigham Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born on Feb. 28, 1943, in Northville, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Florence (Bills) Colson.

Mrs. Rumpf attended Northville Central School.

Anthony Baron
GRANVILLE - Anthony John Baron, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, due to a tragic car accident.

Anthony was born on Oct. 20, 1959, in Rutland, Vt., the son of Anthony and Barbara (King) Baron.

Anthony graduated from Granville High School in 1978 and received his associates degree in culinary art from Adirondack Community College in 1990. Anthony was a loving husband and devoted father. He was passionate about cooking and shared many hours in the kitchen cooking and baking with his daughter, sharing his love of food and talents with her. Tony enjoyed taking long rides and listening to "old time rock and roll." He will be missed by his best friend and constant K9 companion, Jasper.

Ethel A. Boyd
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Ethel A. Boyd passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 2008, at the Westmount Health Facility in Queensbury, N.Y. She was 87.

Born on Feb. 26, 1921, in Ballston Spa, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George and Lola Leonard Brown.

A lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs, Ethel graduated from Saratoga Springs High School, Class of 1939.

Estelle T. Glass
SCHUYLERVILLE - Estelle T. Glass, 88, a former resident of Ranger Road, died Tuesday Dec. 2, 2008, at the Wesley Health Care Facility in Saratoga Springs.

Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Troy, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George L. and Bertha Post Tucker and had been a lifelong resident of Schuylerville.

Mrs. Glass had been employed as a teller for the Glens Falls National Bank in Schuylerville for over 22 years.

Joseph A. Savio Jr.
CASTLETON, N.Y. - Joseph A. Savio Jr., 52, of Castleton went home to be with the Lord after a long illness on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at St. Peter's Hospital.

Born in Saugus, Mass., he was the son of Joseph A. Savio, Sr. and the late Jean Savio.

Joe was a stained glass artist and was also known as JoJo the clown, where he ministered and brought joy to many.

Harold I. Weller
FORT EDWARD - Harold I. Weller, 63, of Reservoir Road, passed way unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at his home.

Born on June 8, 1945, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Grant Raymond and Catherine (Corlew) Weller.

He attended Hudson Falls High School.

Alan C. Clark
WHITEHALL - Alan C. Clark, 90, of Whitehall passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, his 90th birthday, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Fort Edward, N.Y.

Born, Dec. 2, 1918, in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Jacob L. and Addie V. Clark.

Alan graduated from Whitehall High School in 1936.
