Robert Jones

SIDNEY CENTER — Mr. Robert Carrillo  Jones of Sidney Center, passed away on March 10, 2002, at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton.

Mr.  Jones was born on July 25, 1963, in San Antonio,  Texas, the son of Robert Dillard and Luisa (Carrillo-Gomez) Jones.

He was baptized at an early age in Barcelona, Spain.

He later moved to Brooklyn, where he became an altar boy at Fourteen Holy Martis.

Later in life, Robert was blessed with a son, Jeromie Green of Sidney Center.

For several years he worked for Friendly's and also sold real estate.

Survivors include his very dear son, Jeromie Green of Sidney Center; his very loving and caring parents, Robert and Luisa  Jones of Sidney Center; his sisters, Hattie C.  Jones of Orlando, Fla., and Doretha C.  Jones of Orlando, Fla.; his brothers, Juan C.  Jones of Brooklyn, and Carlos  Jones of Orlando, Fla.; his most loving aunt and uncle, Delvage and Odella McIntyre of San Antonio,  Texas; and several friends.

Mr.  Jones was predeceased by his grandparents, Hattie May and Otto Bates.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2002, at 8 p.m. at the Joyce Funeral Home Inc., at 179 Main St., in Unadilla.

The family will receive friends at the Joyce Funeral Home at 7 p.m., one hour before the service on Thursday, March 14, 2002.

Burial will be at a later date in San Antonio,  Texas.

The family of Robert Carrillo  Jones would like to express their appreciation of thanks to everyone.

Arrangements are by the Joyce Funeral Home Inc., of Unadilla.

Fred M. Thompson

STRATFORD — Fred M. Thompson, 64, of 320 Barnes Road in Stratford, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Little Falls Hospital after being stricken at home.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1937, in Cooperstown, the son of the late Lynn J. and Katherine (Cole) Thompson.

He was a graduate of Cherry Valley Central School Class of 1956.

He was married at one time to the former Laura Webster, and was of the Episcopal faith.

Fred was a member of the Salisbury Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, Cherry Valley Fish and Game Club, Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.

Fred was employed for more than 25 years as an insurance agent for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., serving clients throughout the Little Falls-Dolgeville area. After leaving the insurance field, he and his son owned and operated Thompson's Welding Co. in Little Falls for eight years.

For two winters he was employed by the former Shu-Maker Mountain Ski Center in Little Falls. He was last employed for eight years as an equipment operator for the town of Salisbury Highway Department, retiring in 1999.

He is survived by four sons, Jack Thompson of Cherry Valley, Jeffrey Thompson and his wife, Tammy, of Lisbon Falls, Maine, James Thompson and his wife, Lynda, of Dolgeville and Jared Thompson of Little Falls; two brothers, James Thompson and his wife, Dawn, of Milford and Lyle Thompson and his wife, Kim, of Cherry Valley; his dear companion, Irma Crews, of Stratford; seven grandchildren, Sandi Thompson of Albany, C3 Andrew Thompson, U.S. Coast Guard in Chicago, Jonathan Thompson and Stephanie Thompson, both of Lisbon Falls, Maine, Nicole Thompson of Little Falls and Samantha and Nicholas Thompson, both of Dolgeville; an aunt, Marion Cole Smith of Edinburgh; five nieces and two nephews.

In keeping with Fred's wishes, the family would like to invite all relatives and friends to the Salisbury Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club on Curtis Road in the town of Salisbury on Sunday, March 24, 2002, from 1 to 4 p.m. to share in a time of fellowship and memories.

Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Fred be considered to the American Heart Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.

Rose B. Tiffany

NEW BERLIN — Rose B. Tiffany, 75 , of New Berlin passed away Saturday, March 16, 2002, in New Berlin.

She was born Jan. 18, 1927, in the town of Butternuts, the daughter of Orrin and Mildred (Tripp) Belden.

She married Donald Tiffany on May 17, 1945. He predeceased her July 2, 1990.

She spent her childhood in the Gilbertsville area.

She attended Gilbertsville High School and was very proud to receive her GED in 1970. She later attended BOCES and became a licensed practical nurse.

She was employed by Kraft Foods for 35 years, then worked as an LPN at the Oxford Veteran's Home and for the past five years as a counselor at Pathfinder Village.

She volunteered at the New Berlin Library, helped with election polls and was involved with a seniors group.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and the Butternuts Grange. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in South New Berlin.

Traveling was Rose's greatest joy, whether by bus, car, plane or boat; her favorite trip being to Alaska.

She leaves behind many friends and family as she makes her final journey to be with her Lord.

She regrets that she will be unable to return to her work at Pathfinder Village and the people she loved there.

She wishes to thank all who have helped her at the Faxton Cancer Center, New Berlin Health Center and Hospice.

She is survived by her four children, April Tiffany of Utica, Bruce Tiffany of South New Berlin, Carl Tiffany of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ed Tiffany of Utica; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Belden of Rome.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in South New Berlin with the Rev. Kurt Funke of the First Baptist Church in South New Berlin officiating.

Interment will be in the Butternuts Cemetery in the town of Gilbertsville.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Pathfinder Village, Edmeston, NY, or the New Berlin Library, New Berlin, NY, 13411.

Arrangements are by Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Rex T. Miller

WALTON — Rex T. Miller, 93, passed away at Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton on March 15, 2002.

He was born on March 31, 1908, to George and Lizzie Miller in the town of Harpersfield.

He graduated from Stamford Seminary in 1928.

On June 2, 1946, he married Arlene Young in Sidney.

Mr. Miller was a veteran of World War II, a member of the United Methodist Church and was a former street commissioner for Walton.

He worked as a mail carrier from Walton to Sidney as well as for Railway Express and Baileys. Mr. Miller retired from the Bendix Corp.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Arlene Young Miller; his daughter, Linda Darrow of Sidney; and his sons, Glenn A. of St. Charles, Mo., Ronald A. of Higginsville, Mo., Gene L. of Dickinson, N.D., Wayne T. of Walton and Roger of Farmington. Mr. Miller is also survived by 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Grace Wiggins of Horseheads, Lloyd and Barbara Young of Corning and John and Betty Gebert of Jermyn, Pa.

He was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Lyon Bros.-Way Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets in Walton.

Burial will be in the Jermyn Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday March 19, 2002.

Donations to the Walton Emergency Squad or the American Heart Association in the name of Rex T. Miller would by appreciated.

Theodore W. Pelton

SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Theodore W. "Ted" Pelton Jr., 70, of South Kortright, owner-operator of Circle of Life Ambulette Service, passed away at his home on Sunday morning, March 17, 2002.

The son of the late Theodore W. and Emma L. (Bower) Pelton, he was born Oct. 27, 1931, in New York City.

A Korean War veteran, Ted served in the U.S. Navy and was a 25-year area resident.

Survivors include his wife, Irene F. Pelton, of Hamden; his business partner and companion, Patricia "Pat" Dengler of South Kortright; four children, Theodore Pelton III of Buffalo, Carl and Robert Pelton and Tammy Passero, all of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren; a sister, Joan Pelton of Calverton; a brother, Kenneth Pelton of Miami, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home in Delhi, when the family will be in attendance. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the South Kortright Community Church, conducted by the Rev. Elliott Oakes, with burial following in the Valley View Cemetery in Roses Brook.

Memorial contributions to Catskill Area Hospice will be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet & Son, Delhi.

Granger W. Smith

ZEBULON, N.C. — Granger Willey Smith, 50, departed this life on Saturday, March 16, 2002, among loving family and friends, after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS), from which most members of Granger's family have died. He was formerly of this area.

Surviving are his wife, Cindy Smith, at home; sons, Eric and Adam Smith at home; stepmother, Joan Smith of Belleview, Fla.; and numerous loving in-laws and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the Massey Funeral Home Chapel, 913 N. Arendell Ave. The family will receive friends Tuesday immediately following the funeral service at the funeral home.

Following the funeral service, Granger has offered his body as an anatomical gift in the hope of aiding in the cure of ALS.

For those who wish, contributions may be made on behalf of Granger to the ALS Association, Carolina's Chapter, 6512 Six Forks Rd., Suite 602A, Raleigh, NC 27615 or to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.

Richard L. Elliott

NEW BERLIN — Richard L. Elliott, 81 years, of New Berlin, passed away March 17, 2002, in New Berlin.

He was born Sept. 6, 1920, in New Berlin, the son of Lee and Marion (Kolfrat) Elliott.

He married Barbara Williams on Feb. 14, 1943, beloved wife of 59 years. She survives.

He spent his childhood in the New Berlin area.

He was a 1938 graduate of New Berlin High School. Graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1942, where he was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity and Sigma Xi Honorary Society.

He was a chemical engineer at Bendix Corp. in Sidney. While there, he had five different patents.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, where he was a communicant.

He volunteered at the Chase Nursing Home.

He was a member of the Benevolent & Protectorate Order of the Elks.

He was an avid outdoorsman, gardener and maker of maple syrup. He loved his family and made himself available to anyone in need.

He is survived by one son, Richard and Barbara Elliott, Cazenovia; one daughter, Barbara. E. Hust, Kenoza Lake; four grandchildren, Amy L. Perrone, North Syracuse, Andrew R. Elliott, Manlius, Daniel Hust, Callicoon, and Rebekah Failla, Colorado Springs,  Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Peighton, Cassandra, Mackenzie and Dominic.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles  Taylor of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, officiating.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, NY 13411.

Bert L. Hoose Sr.

ROSEBOOM — Mr. Bert L. Hoose Sr., 86, passed away Monday, March 18, 2002, at The Meadows, where he had been a resident since October 2001.

He was born Oct. 3, 1915, in Pleasant Brook, the son of Linard and Myra (Pitcher) Hoose.

On Dec. 15, 1956, he married Florence Chicorelli of Oneonta. She survives.

Mr. Hoose was a farmer/cattle dealer, on Hoose Road, his whole life. He enjoyed his family, animals and nature very much.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Hoose, of Roseboom; two sons, Gene Chicorelli and his wife, Peggy, and Bert Hoose Jr., all of Roseboom; a granddaughter, Kristie Rouse; and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2002, at 7 p.m. in the Roseboom Methodist Church, Roseboom, with the Rev. Ron Fralick, officiating.

Burial will be in the Westford Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Dorothy Kineke

EAST SPRINGFIELD — Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Adair Kineke, 70, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Floral Park, the daughter of John W. and Marjorie A. Herrschaft.

On July 20, 1963, she married Harry E. Kineke. He survives.

She was a 1949 graduate of Sewanaka High School.

She was employed as a secretary for Springfield Central School until retiring after the school merged and became Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School.

Since retirement she and her husband owned and operated The Craft Barn in East Springfield.

Dorothy was well-known for her generous nature and giving spirit. She was always there to lend a hand or give, in any way needed.

She loved her family and will always be remembered and loved in a special way. Words cannot express how she will be missed.

Survivors, besides her husband, Harry E. Kineke, of East Springfield; include three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Valerie Mazzeo of Holiday, Fla., Daniel Kineke of Rota, Spain, and Arthur (Mickey) and Barb Kineke of Mohawk; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Warren Herrschaft, Arthur and Diana Herrschaft, all of Long Island; five grandchildren, Lisa Kineke of Holiday, Fla., Daniel and Olgita Kineke of Rota, Spain, Michael and Kevin Kineke of Mohawk; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Ron Fralick, officiating.

Mrs. Kineke will be placed in the Ottman Funeral Home private vault to await spring burial in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the funeral home.

Contributions in Mrs. Kineke's memory may be made to the Louis Hager Cancer Center, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Daniel J. Klok Jr.

UNADILLA — Daniel J. Klok Jr., 41, of Unadilla, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born May 29, 1960, in New York City.

Danny was a member of the Mountain View Social Club in Oneonta.

He is survived by his parents, Timothy and Maria Bonhomme Keys, of Unadilla.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, March 22, 2002, at Sacred Heart Church in Sidney at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor, officiating. Friends may call Friday, March 22, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, the family will be in attendance at noon.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.
