Dorothy R. Zaugg

MARYLAND — Dorothy R. Zaugg, 99, of Maryland died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at her home.

She was born Aug. 17, 1902, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Frederick William and Anna Josephine (Crossway) Gruby.

She married Fritz John Zaugg on Oct. 24, 1927, in Hartford, Conn. Mr. Zaugg predeceased her on May 26, 1974.

Dorothy was an employee of the New Departure Division of GM in Bristol, Conn., as an etcher. She wrote on metal with an electric pencil.

She was a member of the Migiddo Mission in Rochester.

She is survived by a brother, Carlton Gruby of Schenectady; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Gruby of Weston, Conn., and Florence Gruby of Schenectady; nieces and nephews, David Gruby of Schenectady, Carole Tygert of Schenectady, William Gruby of Bristol, Conn., Janet Gruby of Bristol, Conn., Lois Fawcett of Bristol, Conn.; several grandnieces and nephews; and very dear friends, Becky and Dave Welsh of Cooperstown.

Dorothy was predeceased by 10 brothers, Floyd, Robert, Richard, Theodore, George, Hyde, Arthur, Frank, Frederick and Roland Gruby; five sisters, Angeline Thornton, Constance Chase, Christine Gruby, Doris O'Leary and Marjorie Gruby.

At the request of Dorothy there will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Patricia 'Mo' Capristo

DEERFIELD — Patricia "Mo" Capristo, 76, of the Heritage Home and formerly of Fairview Place in Deerfield passed away March 23, 2002, at the nursing home.

Patricia was born in Oneonta on Feb. 13, 1926, the daughter of Ian K. and Dora (Ferguseon) Davidson.

She was a 1948 graduate of Syracuse University with a master's of fine arts degree in art education.

In 1946, Patricia married Dr. Arthur A. Petronio. Dr. Petronio passed away on March 1, 1985. Patricia later married Frank Capristo. He passed away in 1998.

Until her retirement, Patricia was employed with the Utica Public School System.

She was an avid artist and won many awards.

Patricia is survived by two daughters, Louanne R. Petronio of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Gail M. Petronio of High Falls; and three sons and one daughter-in-law, Arthur A. and Lisa Petronio of Geneva, Steven L. Petronio of Woodgate and Bruce J. Petronio and Brooke Barrie of Allentown, N.J. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Lisa, Michael and Jason Petronio, all of Utica, Andrew Petronio of New York City, Erik Rice and Mia and Michael Petronio, all of Geneva; one great-grandson, Brian Demma of Utica; one sister, Jeanne Broom of Chaffee; and one brother, James Davidson of Remsen. Patricia is also survived by three stepchildren, Frank Capristo Jr. and his children, Frank III and Anthony, of Maryland, Bob Capristo and his daughter, Missy, of Ilion and Nancy Capristo of Florida.

She was predeceased by a brother, Ian Davidson Jr. in 1977.

Memorial calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., in Utica.

Those so wishing may make donations in Patricia's name to the Munson, Williams, Proctor Institute.

Julia Rohacevich

ONEONTA — Julia M. Rohacevich, 75, of Oneonta, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at her home.

She was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Gary, W.Va., the daughter of John and Gabriella (Volk) Markovich.

She married Alex J. Rohacevich on July 18, 1946, in Hagerstown, Md. He passed away Jan. 12, 1994.

She worked for many years in the advertising department at The Daily Star. She also worked as an aide at the Greater Plains Elementary School.

Julia had varied interests, but especially enjoyed golfing.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Linda Rohacevich of Grand Gorge; a sister, Josephine Markovich of Oneonta; her grandchildren, Joseph, Tanya and Jonathan of Grand Gorge.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Julia M. Rohacevich will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St. in Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Haskell, pastor at St. James Episcopal Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

William Carroll Sr.

HAMDEN — William O. Carroll Sr., a lifelong Hamden resident, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at the Delaware County Countryside Care Center where he had been residing. He was 69.

He was born at home in Hamden on Feb. 12, 1933, to Harry and Edna Thompson Carroll Sr.

He married Lynda Houck on Aug. 7, 1960, in Hamden.

He was employed at Fraser's Creamery all his working years.

He was a past member of the United Methodist Church in Walton and member and officer of the former Hamden Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed country music and loved to play the steel guitar.

William O. Carroll Sr. is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kenneth Irwin, Portsmouth, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, William O. and Kathleen Carroll Jr., Greene; and daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Bob Earle, Fountain Inn, S.C.

Also surviving are four grandchildren, Bob Palmer, Phoenix, Ariz., Joshua and Lucas Carroll, Travelers Rest, S.C., and Patrick Earle, Fountain Inn, S.C.; stepgrandchildren, Justin, Kyle and Billy Marcin, Greene; brother and sister-in-law, David and Mary Carroll, Walton; brother, Bob Carroll, Oxford; nieces, Debbie Caruso, Walton, and Wendy Carroll and Kimberly, Birmingham.

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Terry Palmer, Phoenix, Ariz.; and older brother, Harry Carroll Jr., Catskill.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, where friends may call Wednesday, March 27, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Bokel, chaplain at Countryside Care Center, officiating.

Burial will be at Hamden Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 would be appreciated.

Harry Lee Winnie Sr.

FLY CREEK — Mr. Harry Lee Winnie Sr., 91, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Albany Veteran's Hospital, Albany.

He was born Sept. 7, 1910, in Burlington, the son of the late Lee and Dora (Shillieto) Winnie.

He married Beatrice Moore in 1937. She predeceased him in 1955.

Harry attended Cooperstown Central School.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific.

He was the co-owner of Winnie's Garage in Fly Creek from 1946-1965.

He was a member of the Walter P. Eggleston Post American Legion, Cooperstown. He was of the Methodist faith.

Harry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Judy Winnie, of Fly Creek; his daughter, Audrey W. Wart, of Cooperstown; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Winnie of Fly Creek; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Mosher; brothers, Robert and Lewis Winnie.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

There will be no public calling hours or services.

Internment will be at a later date in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

Contributions in Mr. Winnie's memory may be made to the Fly Creek Methodist Church, Fly Creek.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Rose S. Mohar

WILDWOOD, Fla. — Rose (Campbell) Mohar of Wildwood, Fla., died unexpectedly Friday, March 22, 2002, at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, Fla.

She was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Cooperstown, N.Y., the daughter of George P. and Helen (Seymour) Campbell.

She was a graduate of Cooperstown High School and married Adolf G. (Duffy) Mohar in 1938 at Christ Episcopal Church, Cooperstown.

She moved to Oneonta in 1946, working many years at West End Implement Co., a farm machinery business owned and operated by her husband until their retirement in 1985, when they moved to the Continental Country Club in Wildwood, Fla.

Rose is survived by her husband, Duffy, of Wildwood, Fla.; her mother, Helen S. Campbell, of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a son, Martin A. Mohar, of Hilton Head, S.C.; a daughter, Jeanne M. Bridger, Maryland, N.Y.; grandchildren, James Carroll, Gaithersburg, Md., Kathleen Carroll, New Market, Md., Kelly J. Bridger and James D. Bridger, Maryland, N.Y.

Rose was predeceased by her father, George Campbell; a daughter, Marilyn Carroll; and her sisters, Edith Weir and Alice Chapin.

At her request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Cremation in Leesburg, Fla., will be followed by internment at Oneonta Plains Cemetery and at a later date, in her words "a celebration of her life, not a passage of mourning" will be held by her family.

Marjorie N. Loucks

UNADILLA — Marjorie N. Loucks of 1 Gregory St., Unadilla, went to be with her Lord on March 22, 2002, at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton.

She was born Feb. 10, 1910, in Oneonta, the daughter of Morris and Cynthia (Allen) Goodrich.

She married Chester Loucks; they shared several years of marriage.

Mrs. Loucks was predeceased by her husband; and her sisters, Alberta French and Gertrude Carey.

She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Goodrich of Unadilla; and by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Joyce Funeral Home Inc., 179 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. R. Michael Amos, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 1 p.m., one hour before the service on Wednesday.

Burial will be at a later date at the East Sidney Union Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Joyce Funeral Home Inc. of Unadilla.

Julia Congdon

ONEONTA — Julia Congdon, 87, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born March 31, 1914, in Oneonta, the daughter of Leland J. and Ethel Belle Southern Congdon.

Julia worked at the former Daley's Cleaners in Oneonta at one time.

She is survived by two nephews, Tom Daniels and his wife, Carolyn, of Milford, and Dick Congdon and his wife, Louise, of Morris.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Congdon and Geraldine Daniels.

A graveside service will be held at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, in the spring.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Deborah J. Loeser

FARMINGTON — Deborah J. (Brienza) Loeser, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2002, at age 49.

She is survived by her sons, Matthew Loeser and Daniel Loeser; sisters, Andrea Sawyer-Delamarter, Tammy Dean and Bonnie Bowen; brother, Terry Brienza; aunts, Rose Palace and Louise Puylara; dear friend, Gene Loeser; and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home, Inc., 301 West Main St., Victor.

Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oneonta, Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Gifts in her memory may be directed to Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450.

Florence Winslow

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Florence Elizabeth Marie Kempe Winslow, 83, formerly of South Street in Hartwick, died Monday night, March 25, 2002, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1918, in Chelmsford, Mass., a daughter of John and Maria (Anderson) Kempe.

She married Chester J. Winslow Jr. on June 2, 1941, in Oneida. Mr. Winslow died Oct. 9, 1984.

Mrs. Winslow was raised in Chelmsford, Mass., and following her graduation from high school she attended Syracuse School of Nursing, graduating from there in 1941.

During her husband's service in the United States Army during World War II, she and their first child lived with her parents in Oneida where she was employed as a registered nurse at Oneida Hospital. Upon the completion of Mr. Winslow's military service in 1945, the Winslows moved to Hartwick where she devoted herself to raising their family.

Of the Episcopal faith, Mrs. Winslow was a member of Christ Church in Cooperstown, as well as the Otsego-Hartwick Chapter No. 201, Order of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hartwick American Legion Post No. 1567.

An avid golfer, she was also a subscriber at The Leatherstocking Golf Course, where she won many individual championships.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Donald Folts of Hartwick; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chester J. Winslow III and his wife, Karen, of Schuylerville, and Michael Winslow and his wife, Christine, of Fly Creek; six grandchildren, Stacey and Carrie Folts, Andria and Cassandra Winslow, Michael Winslow and Chester J. Winslow IV; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, John K. Winslow, who died in 1969, during the Vietnam Conflict; one sister, Olga Sero; and one brother, Fred Kempe.

The Office of the Burial of the Dead, with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist, will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Christ Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas C. Smith, rector, officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in the Hartwick Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, this evening, Wednesday, March 27, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. when Mrs. Winslow's family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to March of Dimes, 80 Wolf Rd., Albany, NY 12205.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
