Eugenia Beckmann

SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Eugenia M. Beckmann, 96, of South Kortright, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2002, in South Kortright.

She was born March 17, 1906, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Eugene and Mary (Reville) Alfonsin.

She was married to the late Henry W.C. Beckmann.

A homemaker, she loved crafts and attending the senior citizen meetings.

She is survived by a daughter, Catherine A. Nilsen, Hackettstown, N.J.; two grandchildren, Patricia A. Barry, Stanhope, N.J., and Robert W. Nilsen, N.J.; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the South Kortright Rest Home Activity Fund, South Kortright, NY.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Thelma M. Winsor

MILFORD — Thelma M. Winsor, 85, of Milford, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

Mrs. Winsor was born in Toddsville on Jan. 19, 1917, the daughter of Robert Calvin Loudon and Elnora Thompson. She graduated from Cooperstown Central School in 1933 and attended Albany State Teachers' College. She worked as a secretary for the Phoenix Sawmill and for the Rationing Board during World War II.

She married Kenneth A. Winsor in the Hartwick Seminary Evangelical Lutheran Church on Dec. 9, 1945. He died on Aug. 28, 1993. A brother, Clifford Lee Loudon, also predeceased her in 1990.

Mrs. Winsor was an accomplished pianist and organist, and she played for services in many local churches, most recently the former Presbyterian Church in Milford. She also loved books and was the librarian for the Milford Free Library for 25 years.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence Winsor, and his wife, Emily, of Milford; her son, Martin Winsor, and his wife Martha, of Edmeston; her daughter, Katie Runion, of Elkhart, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nephews and their wives and children.

Funeral services will be held at the Tillapaugh Funeral home in Milford on Tuesday, May 14, at 2 p.m. with her burial to follow immediately after the funeral at the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in her memory to the Milford Free Library.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Dennis R. Ackley

TIPTONVILLE, Tenn. — Dennis Rene Ackley, 62, of Tiptonville, Tenn., died April 27, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Union City, Tenn.

He was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., son of Harry C. Ackley and Leona M.  Johnson Ackley.

He was divorced and had been an electrician in a soap factory before to his residing in Tiptonville.

In addition to his mother, Leona M. Ackley of Oneonta, he is survived by two daughters, Debbie Mayhook of Westbrookville, N.Y., and Lisa McGrath of Hometown, Ill.; a grandson, Mark Mayhook of West Brookville; and his brother, Roger E. Ackley of Oneonta.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Cremation took place on May 1 at Northwest Tennessee Crematory in Huntington, Tenn.

The family is planning a service at a later date.

Eleanor Youmans

SIDNEY — Eleanor Youmans, 73, of Sidney, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.

She was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Patterson, N.J.

Eleanor is predeceased by her husband Edward Youmans Sr.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Youmans, of Sidney and Robert Youmans of Wallkill; two daughters, Linda Reed of Michigan and Kathy Mann of Fair Oaks, N.Y.; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at C. H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Interment will be in the Cemetery of the Highlands in Highland Mills, N.Y.

Evelyn R. Norton

WEST ONEONTA — Graveside committal services for Evelyn Ringrose Norton, who died Jan. 24, 2002, will be held Monday, May 13, at 11 a.m. in the Cook Cemetery, West Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Fred M. Thompson

STRATFORD — Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services for Fred M. Thompson, 64, of Barnes Road, Stratford, N.Y., who passed away on March 16, 2002, on Monday, May 13, at 1 p.m. at Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley.

Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls.

James M. Bouton

ROXBURY — James M. Bouton, Jr., 85, of Roxbury, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2002, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

He was born May 15, 1916, in West Settlement in Roxbury. He was the first of six children, the son of James M. Bouton Sr. and Fannie P. Bouton.

He married Phyllis Magee in August 1952, in Phoenix. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

He graduated from Roxbury High School in 1934, and graduated from the University of Alabama Law School in 1940.

He worked for Atlantic Companies from 1940-1942.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1947, rising to major, where he participated in several major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star as well as the ETO Medal with four battle stars for Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. In 1948, he joined the Army Reserve, where he was recalled to active duty several times, until his retirement in 1980, as lieutenant colonel.

He was employed by the Atlantic Companies in Syracuse and New York City from 1948 to 1970, when he formed his own law firm of Bouton, Evans until his retirement in 1982. Upon retirement, he moved from Briarcliff Manor to Roxbury, where he practiced law until 1998.

He was active in the Boy Scouts Troop 18 of Briarcliff from 1964-1982, serving as scoutmaster for 10 years.

He was a member of the Roxbury Rotary, where he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award; Ralph Ives Jr. Post 1785, where he served as post commander; Roxbury Methodist Church since 1931; Roxbury Library Association; honorary member of the Roxbury Fire Department and a legal adviser to Roxbury School Board in the 1980s.

In the '20s and '30s he was a caddy and finally caddy master at Shepard Hills Golf Club in Roxbury, where he was the personal caddy to the Shepards (Finley J. Shepard).

He was manager of the Roxbury Wildcats baseball team in the '30s, where several members went on to play semi-pro and pro-baseball.

He served on the board of directors for the National Bank of Roxbury, Lutz Feed and Delaware-Otsego Corp.

His health had continued to decline since he was attacked by a rabid bobcat in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Bouton of Roxbury; one son, James and daughter-in-law, Carol, Bouton of Roxbury; one daughter, Susan and son-in-law, Cory Shea, of Montana; three grandchildren, Jim, Kevin and Casey; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Tony Carmeli of Roxbury; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Clare Bouton of Gansevoort; brother, Richard Bouton of Roxbury; brother-in-law, Gene Hass of Ft. Myers, Fla.; sister-in-law, Ellen Bouton of Pearl River; and aunt, Mildred Sperling of Halcottsville.

He was predeceased by a brother, Frank; and a sister, Margaret.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Roxbury, with the Rev. Charles Gockel and the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating.

Burial will be in the Roxbury Cemetery in Roxbury.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, May 13, 2002, at the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Roxbury Central School Scholarship Fund in memory of James M. Bouton Jr., for a student entering a legal career, would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home of Roxbury.

Alice G. Leonard

OTEGO — Alice G. "Maw" Leonard of Otego passed away Thursday, May 9, 2002, at her home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Oneonta, the daughter of Glenn and Alice (Cox) Goble.

She married Alton L. "Bud" Leonard on May 20, 1946. He died April 30, 1963.

Alice was a school teacher and taught English at Unatego High School in Wells Bridge for several years and remained an active participant in school and community activities.

She was a lifelong resident of Otego and was a member of the Otego United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Lawrence A. Leonard and wife, Kathryn Kurtz, of Oneonta, and his children, Alton L. and Lara B. Leonard; and Bruce A. and his wife, Joan C., Leonard of Oxford, and their children, Heidi Kathryn and husband, Michael, Malloy and Megan L. Leonard; two daughters, Patricia A. and her husband, John, Walker of Las Vegas, Nev., and their children, Kimberly A. Walker and Darryl K. Walker and wife, Aimee; and Andrea L. DiBenedetto and partner, Marilyn Schrader, of Athens and Andrea's daughter, Dr. Alice A. DiBenedetto and husband, Ray Flook; two brothers and their wives, Arthur and Barbara Goble and Robert and Shirley Goble; three sisters, Mary Jane and her husband, Charles, LeSeur, Audrey Smallin and Nancy and husband, Walton, Forsythe; one aunt, Gladys Leonard; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Alice was predeceased by her baby brother, Walter and brothers, Glen Goble Jr. and David Goble.

A service to celebrate the life of Alice G. Leonard will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the Otego United Methodist Church on Church Street with the Rev. Fred Albrecht, pastor of the Otego United Methodist Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Alice will be cremated and her ashes buried in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Otego Emergency Squad, River Street, Otego, NY 13825 or to the Alice G. Leonard Memorial Award in Creative Writing, care of Unatego Central School, 2641 State Highway 7, Otego, NY 13825 in memory of Alice G. Leonard.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego.

Alfred E. Meyer

EAST MEREDITH — Alfred E. Meyer of East Meredith, died at his home on Friday, May 10, 2002.

He was born in Howarth, N.J., the son of Alfred H. and Edna ( Schmidt) Meyer.

He was married to Charlotte Holland. She died on June 23, 1997.

Al attended Rutgers University and graduated from Upsala University in New Jersey.

He worked for a period of time with the FBI and Cyanamid Corp. in New Jersey. Most recently, he was a local self-employed antique dealer.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Mary McDowell of East Meredith.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, at his home on 143 Warner Hill Road in East Meredith.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Route 10, Bloomville Road, Delhi NY 13753.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.
