Robert J. Donohue

DAVENPORT — Memorial contributions in the name of Robert J. Donohue, 72, who passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2002, may be made to First Responders, in care of the Davenport Fire Department, Davenport, NY 13750.

Alma Gillis Hanifin

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Alma Gillis Hanifin, 93, of Arkell Hall in Canajoharie passed away on Friday evening, May 24, 2002, surrounded by her loving family at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Alma was born on Feb. 13, 1909, in New York City, the youngest of nine children of Thomas J. and Rose McCormack (Jones) Gillis.

She married Lewis James Hanifin Sr., on June 20, 1932, in New York City. Mr. Hanifin died on Feb. 5, 1969.

Raised in New York City, Alma first attended Holy Child School and then Barnard School for Girls and the Arts Students League, all in Manhattan.

Following her schooling, she modeled for the John Robert Powers Agency and appeared in short films. It was during this time that she met and later married her husband, Lewis, of Springfield, Mass., which is where they lived until moving to Fort Plain in 1952.

For many years, Alma assisted her husband in the ownership and operation of The Hanifin Pontiac-Buick Agency in Fort Plain. Although Mr. Hanifin died in 1969, Alma continued to live in Fort Plain among her family and friends.

In 1993, she became a resident of Arkell Hall in Canajoharie.

She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Fort Plain and was active with the Catholic Daughters, the Rosary Society and other activities.

A wonderful grandmother, she was devoted to her family and never forgot a birthday or holiday. Her warm, wonderful humor will be greatly missed.

Alma leaves her devoted children, Pat Nelen and her husband, Frank, of South Hadley, Mass.; Alma Rose Ehle and her husband, Roger, of Scotia; Lewis J. Hanifin Jr., and his wife, Dawn Littrell Hanifin, of Fort Plain; and Ursula J. Hage and her husband, Chuck, of Cooperstown; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at noon Monday, Memorial Day, May 27, 2002, at St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Fr. John R. Roos, pastor emeritus, officiating.

The Rite of Committal and burial will be at 11 a.m. this morning, May 28, 2002, in the Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Fort Plain Volunteer Fire Department, 168 Canal St., Fort Plain, NY 13339 or Friends of Bassett, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Christine L. Fitch

EDMESTON — Christine L. Fitch, 83, of Burlington Flats, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Burlington Green, the daughter of William J. and Iva J. (Lake) Shillieto.

She married Lloyd C. Fitch on Nov. 11, 1938, in West Edmeston. He predeceased her on Feb. 8, 1997.

Christine retired from Edmeston Central School, where she taught for more than 35 years. She began her teaching career in the area's one-room schoolhouse. Christine had a passion for reading and for teaching; even in her later years she could still recite Hiawatha and Evangeline entirely.

One of her greatest loves was for her grandchildren, and she enjoyed searching through all the rummage sales to procure gifts for each of them.

Her garden was deep in color and produce.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington Green, but also enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church in Burlington Flats.

Christine is survived by her children and their spouses, Andrea and Bill Gott of Edmeston, Leah and Roger Perkins of West Edmeston and Clifford and Patti Fitch of Burlington Flats. Her grandchildren, Cathleen and Dave Parmeter, Gary and Angela Gott, Richard and Carrie Gott, Joann and Glenn Cilbrith, Gerald and Noemi Perkins, James aud Prudy Perkins, David Perkins and Cheryl, Lisa Baulch, Michael Fitch, Amy Fitch and her fiance, Greg Dye; and great-grandchildren, William and Ethan Hitchcock, Garrett and Caitlyn Gott, Brandon, Justin, Kyle and Andrew Gott, Adam and Amanda Perkins, Jake and Hanah Baulch and Michael Price and Sara Cilbrith; her brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Helen Shillieto; her niece, Linda and family; two nephews, Mark, Gordon and family; numerous cousins and several close friends.

Christine was predeceased by her beloved nephew, David.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home in Edmeston, with the Rev. Jay Henderson, pastor, officiating.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Burlington Flats Cemetery.

The family is setting up a fund in Christine's name through Edmeston Central School. The award will be based on the most improved reading skills in first grade.

Patrick H. Lange

WHITNEY POINT — Patrick Henry Lange, 26, of Whitney Point, formerly of Fleischmanns, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2002, in Whitney Point, from injuries sustained in a dirt bike accident at Whitney Point.

He was born June 3, 1975, in Passaic, N.J., son of Patrick Martin Lange and Kathleen Lesenko.

He was engaged to Amy Slater of Roxbury.

He was a master diesel mechanic employed for Stadium International Trucking, Kirkwood.

He lived in Whitney Point for the past six years, after moving from Fleischmanns.

He graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1994. Patrick also graduated from the Ohio Diesel Technical School following an 18-month course.

He enjoyed riding his mountain bike.

He is survived by his fiancee, Amy Slater of Roxbury; mother and stepfather, Kathleen and Thomas Grocholl of Fleischmanns; father, Patrick M. Lange and Susan Berman of Rochelle, Park, N.J.; two sisters, Corinne Lange and Beth Grocholl; grandparents, Lewis and Jacqueline Grocholl of Fleischmanns.

He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, in the Bedell Cemetery in Fleischmanns with the Rev. Joon Woo Lee officiating. Burial will be in Bedell Cemetery, Fleischmanns.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Donald Astheimer

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Donald P. Astheimer, 69, of state Route 28, town of Richfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening, May 25, 2002, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born on May 23, 1933, in Jersey City, N.J., son of the late Henry R. and Florence Perrine Astheimer. Don was raised in New Jersey and was a graduate of Plainfield High School.

An honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran, he served on the USS Cabot and the USS Tarawa during the Korean Conflict.

On May 3, 1958, he married the former Joyce Garretson in Stillwater, N.J.

For many years he worked as a plumber and in the construction trade.

In 1995, he and his wife came to Richfield Springs. He worked for the town of Richfield in the winter as a wingman on the snowplows.

During the summer months he worked for the village of Richfield Springs as groundskeeper at the Lakeview Cemetery.

He was a member of the Plainfield Rescue Squad, a volunteer firefighter for both Stillwater and Hartwick Seminary and was a member of the Richfield Springs Lions Club. A Free and Accepted Mason, he belonged to lodges in both New Hampshire and Cooperstown. In his leisure time he loved to play golf.

Don was happiest when he was surrounded by his friends and family, especially his granddaughter, "Katie."

Surviving besides his loving wife of 44 years, Joyce, are two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Martin Field of Cherry Valley and Leigh and Christopher Hutchinson of Boston, Mass.; a brother, Robert and his wife, Vivian, Astheimer of Palm Coast, Fla.; his granddaughter; Katherine Hutchinson, of Boston, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs with the Rev. William Harkins, pastor, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Lions Club or the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Patsy 'Pat' Anello

COOPERSTOWN — Patsy "Pat" J. Anello passed away on Friday, May 24, 2002, at The Meadows in Cooperstown.

Patsy was born in New Brunswick, N.J., on May 19, 1917, the son of Judith Serano and Theodore Anello.

He married Adeline Piazzi on Dec. 15, 1946, in Mount Vernon.

Patsy served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1945.

He worked in the New York City Garment District on Seventh Avenue until his retirement in 1983.

Patsy and his wife lived in Eastchester. Upon his retirement they moved to Florida during the winter months and Oneonta in the summer months. While in Florida he took up a second career working for Kmart part-time until 1995, and was awarded as "Employee of the Month."

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; and two daughters, Judith Schnell and her husband, Harry "Buddy," of Oneonta and Vivian Seman and her husband, Bob, of Eastchester; his granddaughter and her husband, Heather and Rich Babbitt of Oneonta; and his grandsons, Dustin Schnell, Jeffrey Seman and Brian Seman. His brother, Tom Anello, of Florida; and his sister, Kitty Scoglio, of Arizona also survive him.

He is predeceased by his infant son, Theodore; his sisters, Bobbie and Rose; and his brother, Gus.

Callings hours were from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at the Romano Family Funeral Home in Tuckahoe.

There will be a church service at 10 a.m. today at The Gates of Heaven in Valhalla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Williams Syndrome Association, P.O. Box 297, Clawson, Mich. 48017-0297 or the charity of your choice.

Ida E. Loman

MECHANICVILLE — Ida E. Loman, 88, of South Main Street, in Mechanicville, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 24, 2002, at the Schuyler Ridge Residential Center in Clifton Park.

Mrs. Loman was born Oct. 13. 1913, in Pittstown. She was the daughter of the late Merrill and Catherine Tracey Bothwell.

She was married to the late Harold K. Loman, who passed away Feb. 21, 2001.

Mrs. Loman was a communicant of the Assumption-St. Paul Parish in Mechanicville.

She was a graduate of the Lansingburg School Class of 1931. She attended the Troy Business School.

Mrs. Loman had worked at Behr Manning in Watervliet and the Boston Store and W.T. Grant's, both in Mechanicville.

Mrs. Loman was the beloved mother of two daughters, Jane Anne Russell and her husband, Giles, of Cooperstown and Katherine M. Waldron and her husband, Terry, of Mechanicville; three sons, Thomas H. Loman and his wife, Evelyn, of Richmond, Va., Paul M. Loman and his wife, Christine, of Syracuse, and David J. Loman and wife, Maria, of Guilderland. She was the proud and loving grandmother to 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Charles Francis Bothwell of Troy, and the late, William Merrill Bothwell.

Her funeral will be at 10:15 a.m. today from the T.L. Cassidy Funeral Home, 126 North Second Ave., Mechanicville and at 11 a.m. at the Assumption-St. Paul Church, North Main Street in Mechanicville, where the Rev. David J. Kelley, OSA, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be in the Hudson View Cemetery.

Anna M. Reynolds
RICHFIELD SPRINGS _ Anna M. Reynolds, 90, formerly of Division Street, passed away on Saturday morning, May 25, 2002, in Crouse Community Center, Morrisville.

She was born on March 22, 1912, in Martinsburg, a daughter of the late Alson and Ulena Marion Sweet. She was raised and educated in Gloversville.

On June 21, 1931, she married Marvin F. Reynolds in St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown. A loving and devoted union of 67 years until his passing on May 8, 1999.

Anna had resided in Richfield Springs since 1935.For many years she worked for Doufold Clothing Mfg. in Mohawk, retiring in 1957. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs, and the Richfield Springs American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are four grandchildren and their families, Daniel R. Skramko of Georgetown, Carol Ann Malone of Decantur, Ind., Sharon Kane of Richfield Springs and Marcia Kelley of Liverpool; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her son-in-law, Daniel Skramko of Georgetown; and one sister, Mary "Dolly" Goodspeed of Gloversville.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Julia Skramko, on Sept. 16, 2001; a granddaughter, Sheila Skramko; two brothers, Ted and Donald Sweet.

Funeral services from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs.

The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.Interment will be in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Richfield Springs Emergency and Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
