Laurie K. Webster
STAMFORD _ Laurie Katherine Webster, born Oct. 23, 1960, beloved daughter of James E. and Dorothy C. Webster of Stamford, died on Friday, May 24, 2002, at the home of her sister in Tucson, Ariz.

Laurie was raised in Stamford and graduated from Stamford Central School in 1978. She then attended Wilma Boyd School in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Laurie was a longtime resident of North Carolina, and was employed as an administrative assistant to the general manager of Capitol Broadcasting Company, in Raleigh, N.C.

She is survived by her parents, James E. and Dorothy C. Webster of Stamford; a sister, Debra Elaine Altman of Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother, James E. Webster Jr. and his wife, Molly, and their daughter, Katherine, of Beacon; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Elaine M. Race
COOPERSTOWN _ A committal service and burial for Elaine M. Race, 74, who died Nov. 21, 2001, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul R. Messner, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartwick Seminary, officiating.

Included will be a service by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Clark F. Simmons American Legion Post No. 579. Arrangements are by the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Barbara Appleton
RICHFIELD SPRINGS _ Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside committal service for Barbara Sheridan Appleton, 80, formerly of Richfield Springs, who passed away on Dec. 7, 2001. It will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, in Lakeview Cemetery in Richfield Springs.

Arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Donald L. Fleming

DELHI — Donald L. Fleming, 86, of West Delhi, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2002, at his home.

The son of the late Benard and Bessie (Wanamaker) Fleming, he was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Middletown, received his education at Delaware Academy and married Frances M. Eckert on May 29, 1941, in Hamden.

A World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, Don was a pilot and flew 36 bombing missions in the Pacific.

In earlier years, he was a New York State conservation officer, later served as Walton chief of police, then operated his dairy farm at West Delhi, subsequently working as a truck driver for Delaware County Highway Department until retirement.

A lifelong area resident, he was a member of the Delhi United Ministry; Gleason Post 190, American Legion; V.F.W. Post 10550; and the Delaware County Historical Association.

An outdoor enthusiast, Don greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly-tying, beekeeping and was a noted storyteller who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Frances Fleming; three sons, Donald Jr. and Bonnie Fleming of Delhi, Robert Fleming and friend Melvin Connors of Milton, Mass.; and James and Linda Fleming of Coral Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Marjorie Fleming of Rifle,  Colo.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A grandson, Eric Fleming, died May 24, 2002.

Friends are invited to attend memorial services at 3 p.m. on June 27, 2002, at the Delhi United Ministry. The Rev. Lisa Heckman will officiate and burial will be in the Hamden Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet & Son, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.

F. Audrey Thompson

ONEONTA — F. Audrey Thompson, 84, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, following complications.

She was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Spencerville, Ohio, to Edward and Nancy (Allan) Harmon.

She married Richard H. Thompson in Oneonta on June 24, 1946. He died Nov. 27, 1979.

Audrey grew up in Lynn, Mass., with two brothers, Allen and Payson, and two sisters, Thelma and Lillian.

In 1942, she was a clerk typist for the U. S. War Department and joined the WACS in 1943, where she served in the U. S. Army as a chauffeur to several generals in  Washington, D.C. She received her honorable discharge on Jan. 17, 1946.

Audrey lived on Upper East Street in Oneonta, where she raised four children.

She had worked at Bugbee School in Oneonta for several years and also was a telephone operator for A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1983.

Audrey is survived by her four children, John R. Thompson of Binghamton, Edward A. Thompson and Richard S. Thompson, both of Oneonta, and Nancy Thompson of Locke; one sister, Mary Lillian Carter of Oneonta; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Audrey requested there be no funeral service or calling hours as she wanted to be remembered the way those who knew her well.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Josephine Calhoun

EDMESTON — Josephine S. Calhoun, 67, of Edmeston, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born Oct. 15, 1934, in West Edmeston, the daughter of Donald (Dick) W. and Ruth C. (Welch) Slentz.

She married Jay K. Calhoun on June 5, 1954, in West Edmeston. Josephine and her husband, Jay, operated their family dairy farm in West Edmeston for 28 years. Later they retired to Griffin, Ga., where she lived for 15 years.

She was a former member of the West Edmeston Baptist Church and had also been a Sunday School teacher at the church.

Josephine was an avid reader, loved her pet Dachshunds and, for many years, would also prepare taxes for H & R Block.

Among the things Jo enjoyed were camping in the Adirondacks with her family, cooking and baking, and she loved the water.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Nancy and Bernard Whitacre of West Edmeston, Virginia and Timothy Rockwell of Barnesville, Ga., Jodi and Danny Hawes of West Edmeston, Jeannette Calhoun of Griffin, Ga., Jacob S. Calhoun of New Kennsington, Pa., and James D. Calhoun of Griffin, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and her sisters and brother, Elizabeth Holdridge, Barbara Wheeldon and David Slentz.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jay; and her brother, Jacob Slentz.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, at the West Edmeston Baptist Church, with the Rev. George Hopper officiating.

Interment will follow at West Edmeston Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home in Edmeston.

Contributions may be made in Josephine's memory to the Edmeston Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Yvonne Conigliaro

AFTON — Yvonne A. Conigliaro, 64, of Afton, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in  Johnson City.

She was born March 1, 1938, daughter of the late Roy and Gladys Goodnough Marks in Afton.

Yvonne married Joseph Conigliaro on Sept. 17, 1955. He predeceased her in 1980.

She is survived by three daughters, Ann Marie and Ron Gilinski of Boynton Beach, Fla., Nancy and Michael Snyder of Afton, and Lori and Michael Canny of Sanitaria Springs; son, Joseph and Debra Conigliaro Jr. of Telford, Pa.; four grandchildren, Julie and Brooke Snyder, Ashley Gilinski and Mariah Canny; three sisters, Marion and Harold Alford of Binghamton, Elaine and Gerald Brackett of Afton, and Beverly Goff of Afton; sister-in-law, Anita Whalen of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also predeceased by a sister, Evangeline Hallstead.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be directed to the Afton or Bainbridge emergency squads.

John Hurley

MORRIS — John Hurley, 58, of Morris, N.Y., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Fox Hospital, in Oneonta, N.Y.

He was born March 17, 1944, in the Bronx, N.Y., the son of William and Harriet (Gibney) Hurley. John resided in both Riverdale, N.Y., and in Morris, as often as he could.

He was employed as a building superintendent at Fieldstondale Mutual Housing of' Riverdale. He was an active and proud member of the Morris Fire Department and its Fire Police Squad. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local #814, serving as a helper and foreman. He was also a member of the Building Service International Union Local 32 B/J and a district steward of that union.

He attended Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church when he was in Morris.

He is survived by a son, John Memannus of Indiana; a sister, Katherine Prezkuta of Katonah, N.Y.; and a nephew, Robert Prezkuta of Ridgefield, Conn.

Other family members include Victoria Soto, Anthony Murfitt, Karen Murfitt and Adam Weissman, all of Morris; along with eight grandchildren.

Calling hours will be on Friday, May 31, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

His final resting place will be in Hillington Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Ruth Walsh Munro

GREELEY,  Colo. — Ruth Walsh Munro, 81, of Greeley,  Colo., formerly of Dade City, Fla., died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at the Life Care Center of Greeley.

She was born on May 28, 1920, in Binghamton, N.Y., to Henry T. and Beulah C. (Schneck) Phippen.

She married Richard J. Walsh on June 11, 1942, in New York. He predeceased her on May 23, 1980. She later married Hugh A. Munro on June 15, 1981, in Dade City, Fla. He predeceased her on May 16, 1996.

Mrs. Munro graduated from the Oneonta Normal School, Oneonta, N.Y., now the State University College at Oneonta.

She taught in New York until 1959. Also taught first grade in the Pinellas County Public Schools in Clearwater, Fla.

She moved to Greeley from Dade City, Fla., in 1998.

Survivors are her son, Timothy C. Walsh of Munroe, N.C.; and one daughter, Margo Walsh Barnhart of Windsor. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one brother and two sisters.

A memorial service to celebrate Ruth's life was held on Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the Life Care Center of Greeley,  Colo. She was cremated.

Memorial gifts may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Logan Dean Walsh Barnhart Scholarship Fund, in care of Moser Funeral & Cremation Service, 3501 S. 11th Ave., Evans, CO 80620.

Virginia Terpenning

ONEONTA — Graveside memorial services for Virginia Terpenning, 88, of North, S.C., and formerly of Oneonta, who passed away Dec. 6, 2001, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta with the Rev. Edward Carloon, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta officiating.

She was a graduate of Oneonta High School and St. Lawrence University.

She was married for 63 years to George Terpenning, who died in 2000. During her married life, she lived in New York City, New Jersey, Belgium, England, Australia, Cooperstown and Stroudsburg, Pa.

She is survived by two children, Diane, wife of Adrian Thoman of North, S.C.; and Linda, wife of Roderick Gunn of Wyncote, Pa. She is also survived by a sister, Jeanne, wife of Clyde Bates of Madison, Conn.; a brother, Jack, husband of Janet Bresee of Oneonta; and a sister-in-law Ella Rutan of Sebring, Fla.; as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Her daughter, Betty Jeanne Sistrunk, died in 1995.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Muriel Tilyou

STAMFORD — A memorial service will be held for Muriel Tilyou, at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2002, at the cemetery in Stamford. The family will be in attendance following the service at the Claddagh Room of the Belvedere Country Inn in Stamford. Refreshments will be served. You are invited to share in remembrances of "Myrt."
