Samuel C. Limerick
ONEONTA — Samuel C. Limerick, of Oneonta, died Thursday, June 6, 2002.
He was born Jan. 5, 1913, in Troy, N.Y., the son of Charles H. and Edna (Johnson) Limerick.
Sam graduated from Troy High School, Amherst College, and Columbia University School of Optometry. He joined his father's optometry practice in Troy and remained until 1942 when he joined the 7th Station Hospital during World War II and went to Algiers, Algeria and then Italy. Following the war, he returned to his dad's practice until his father's death.
On July 24, 1948, he married Nellie Brown.
In 1958, Samuel and his family moved to Oneonta and worked for the optometry practice of Lull and Irons and then was in partnership at Oneonta Optical until his retirement.
He was a member and past trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta.
He was predeceased by a brother, John, and sister, Zada.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Betty Goldband and her husband Martin of Glen Rock, N.J., and Carolyn Austin and her husband James of Oneonta. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Craig Goldband of New Jersey, Eric Goldband of Oregon and Jeffrey, Cynthia, and Michael Austin of Oneonta.
The family will receive visitors at the Lewis-Hurlev Funeral Home on Sunday, June 9, from noon to 1 p.m., to be followed by a memorial service with the Rev. Edward Carlson officiating.
Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.

Dorothy Shedlock
ONEONTA — Dorothy M. Shedlock, 79, of Volney, in Oswego County, N.Y., formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Oswego Hospital, Oswego, N.Y.
She was born March 25, 1923, the daughter of the late James and Caroline Sames Kehoe.
She was married to the late Carl A. Shedlock who died Nov. 1, 2001.
Dorothy attended Hunter College and State University College at Oneonta and had been a teacher in the Oneonta City School District. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Oswego and St. Mary's Church in Oneonta. She was a member of the Catskill Area Hospice Auxiliary and the New York State Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by four daughters, Marilyn Petkov of Freeville, N.Y., Margaret Sands of Alexandria, Va., Dorothy J. Shedlock and Patricia Shene both of Oswego; three sons, Carl Shedlock of Boca Raton, Fla., Thomas Shedlock of Walingford, Pa., and Robert Shedlock of Clarks Summit, Pa.; one brother Jack Kehoe of Rotterdam Junction, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Walnut Street, Oneonta. The Rev. Paul Roman will officiate.
Burial of ashes will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Oneonta.
Expressions of sympathy may be given to Catskill Area Hospice 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to St. Mary's School, in care of St. Mary's Church, Walnut Street, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Helen E. LaSalle
ONEONTA — Helen E. LaSalle, formerly of Long Island, N.Y. and New Milford, Pa., went to be with our Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2002.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, John Julian LaSalle, in 1989 and seven brothers and sisters.
Surviving Helen are one daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and John E. Gallucci of Oneonta; one son and daughter-in-law Richard and Cindy LaSalle of Murphysboro, Ill.; grandchildren John P. and Julie Gallucci and Helyn Gallucci of Oneonta, one great-grandchild Anthony John Gallucci of Oneonta; brother and sister-in-law, George and Mary Psarudakis of Great Neck, Long Island and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Helen lived a long and happy life. She enjoyed playing bingo and bridge, traveling and most of all being with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. The Rev. Judith Thistle, Chaplain of A. O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta on Monday, June 10, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Wesley Carvill Sr.
ONEONTA — Wesley W. Carvill Sr., 91, of Oneonta, Otsego County, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta, after a long illness.
He was the husband of Rosewitha Marshall Turner Carvill and his first wife of 48 years, the late Ivinetta Oliver Carvill.
Beside his wife, he is survived by a son, Wesley W. Carvill Jr., Londonderry, N.H.; a sister, Della Winter, Decatur, Ill.; a brother, Gordon Carvill, East Greenbush; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was predeceased by a son, Raymond R. Carvill; two sisters, Beatrice Willey and Ruth Lobdell; and a brother, C. Raymond Carvill.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the church.
Marshall J. Dibble
NORTH FRANKLIN — Memorial services for Marshall J. Dibble, 89, of North Franklin, who died on May 16, 2002, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Moose Lodge in Oneonta. The ladies and gentlemen of the Moose will officiate.
His final resting place will be in Ouleout Cemetery, North Franklin.
Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.
Donald L. Fleming
DELHI — Memorial services for Donald L. Fleming of West Delhi, who died May 25, 2002, have been re-scheduled and will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2002, in the United Ministry of Delhi. The Rev. Lisa Heckman and the Rev. Bert More will officiate. A reception will follow the service.

Muriel E. Bush
NORWICH — Muriel E. Bush, 81, longtime Norwich area resident, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2002, at the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford, where she had made her home for the past several years.
Born in Unadilla Forks, Muriel moved to the Norwich area with her mom and dad in the mid-1930s.
A person who loved music, Muriel loved to dance and listen to music and at the age of 10 she was singing on radio programs.
For a period of time while living in South Plymouth, she had engaged in farming and logging with her husband.
A lover of animals, Muriel had also lived in Vernon and Saratoga, working with the horses.
While at home she enjoyed the simple things in life, such as crocheting and just taking care of any animals that needed her care.
Born Sept. 22, 1920, in Unadilla Forks, she was the daughter of John and Clarabelle Izora (Whitney) Henigan.
On June 26, 1937, she married Ralph Bush, who passed away Nov. 5, 1977.
Muriel is survived by her children, Donna Nelson and her husband, Fred, of South New Berlin and Ralph Bush and his wife, Barb, of Norwich; nine grandchildren, Sherry Sterling and husband, David, of Morris, Wyatt Nelson of Syracuse, Todd Nelson and wife, Irene, of Medway, Mass., Eric Nelson of Oneonta, Brian Bush and wife, Judy, of Katy, Texas, Wayde Bush and wife, Monica, of Altamont, Karlene Foster and husband, Russ, of Norwich, Darlene Gramstad and husband, Scott, of Norwich and Brent Bush and wife, Louanne, of Norwich. Also surviving are 20 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Florence Mathews of York, S.C.
Besides her husband, Ralph, Muriel was predeceased by her daughter, Darlene Bush.
Funeral services for Muriel will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002, from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kurt Funke, pastor of the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin, officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Nicholas A. Vacc
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Nicholas A. Vacc, 62, of Greensboro, N.C., died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Dr. Vacc was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sept. 22, 1939.
He was the Joe Rosenthal Excellence Professor and past chairman of the Department of Counseling and Educational Development at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During his tenure as chair, the department was selected as the Outstanding Counselor Education Program in 1991 and 1994.
He served as president of the Association for Assessment in Counseling, editor of the "Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development" journal, and president of Chi Sigma Iota International, the international counseling honor society.
He had served as a member of numerous technical and policy advisory boards and working groups concerned with assessment in counseling and mental health, including the Joint Committee on Testing Practices, the Test-Takers' Rights and Responsibilities Working Group, the Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification, the American Counseling Association President's Advisory Committee and the Guilford County Mental Health Board.
Nicholas had more than 120 scholarly publications including 11 books or monographs, eight book chapters, and 70 referred articles. He made presentations at numerous national and international conferences and had been project director, coordinator or investigator for several externally funded grants.
Recognition of Nicholas' work by his colleagues included the David K. Brooks Jr. Distinguished Mentor Award and the Arthur A. Hitchcock Award for Distinguished Professional Service, both by the American Counseling Association; the Distinguished Mentor Award by the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the Meritorious Service Award by the Association for Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, the Ella Stephens Barrett Leadership Award by the North Carolina Association for Counseling and Development and being a nominee for the North Carolina Board of Governor's Award for Excellence.
Nicholas was a member of Starmount Forest Country Club and enjoyed playing golf in his spare time.
Dr. Vacc is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Nesbitt Vacc; his mother, Jennie Vacc; and sister, Rosemary Lips, both of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; and his mother-in-law, Ina Nesbitt of Middleburgh, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Vacc.
A memorial service will be on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, in Cleveland, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of donor's choice.

Constantine V. Besedin
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Constantine V. Besedin, 83, of state Route 28, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, June 7, 2002, at Basset Healthcare in Cooperstown with his family at his side.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1918, in Odessa, Russia, a son of the late Vladimir and Mary Bessedin. As a young boy his family moved to America and settled in New York City, where he was raised and educated, graduating from high school.
On Nov. 23, 1941, he married Edythe Kisker in the Whitestone Russian Orthodox Church.
During World War II he proudly served with the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 until his honorable discharge on June 5, 1946.
He owned and operated Veterans Motor Service in Baldwin for more than 30 years, retiring in 1977.
Since 1972, he and his family had vacationed at Canadarago Lake. They moved to Richfield Springs in 1991, coming from Lynbrook. For many years, he was a Boy Scout leader in Lynbrook.
He enjoyed woodworking, building and home repairs.
He delighted in his family and was happiest when sharing cherished time with them.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 60 years, Edythe; his loving children, Robert Besedin and his wife, Judy, of Baldwin, Thomas Besedin and his fiancee, Lee Foglia, of Islandia; his daughter, Judie Mayer of Richfield Springs; four grandchildren, Laura Besedin, Christopher and Elizabeth Mayer and Robert Besedin; one niece, Anne Kostiluk; two nephews, Michael and Alex Jordan; and a cousin, Elena Hinich.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St. in Richfield Springs. Interment with military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Memorial donations may be made to Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
