Roger K. Combs
WEST PAWLET, Vt. - Roger K. Combs passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.

Roger was born on Oct. 23, 1929, in Granville, N.Y., the son of Milton and Celia (Rogers) Combs.

Roger was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Army from 1948 to 1952. He returned home to take over his dad's beekeeping business and also was a New York State bee inspector. He later worked as both a slate roofer and a carpenter.

Helen M. Baker
GANSEVOORT - Helen M. Baker, 96, a former resident of Catherine Street, Gansevoort, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Pleasant Valley Health Facility in Argyle.

Born May 30, 1912, in Argyle, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Rosanna Keys Bain.

Helen was a graduate of the Argyle High School Class of 1930, the Hudson Falls Training Class of 1931, and the Plattsburgh State Normal School in 1936. She was an elementary teacher and taught for six years at the Argyle District 16 School and for eight years at the Argyle Central School. She was a member of the Argyle Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and participating in community and family gatherings.

Maureen S. Cornell-Balfour
GLENS FALLS - Maureen S. Cornell-Balfour, 55, passed away after a long illness, at Glens Falls Hospital, Tuesday, March 24, 2009, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born on Oct. 31, 1953, in Oneonta, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Daniel V. Cotter of Staten Island, N.Y., and Joan B. "Ida" (Benton) of Port Jarvis, N.Y.

Maureen was a 1971 graduate of Saint Mary's Academy in Glens Falls. She followed up with her passion with a master's degree in European history from the University at Albany. Maureen was an active volunteer in the arts in the community.

Nancy Stevens McAleer
SUNDERLAND, Vt. - Nancy Stevens McAleer, 90, a native of St. Louis, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, in her home in Sunderland, Vt., from complications of a stroke.

One of four daughters of the late Ir (CQ) Augustus and Ruth Bixby Stevens of Ladue and a granddaughter of the St. Louis businessman, art collector and philanthropist W. K. Bixby, she attended the Community and John Burroughs Schools in St. Louis, a finishing school in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Cambridge (MA) School of Architecture.

While in Switzerland she had learned to ski, which charmed her future husband, A. Gordon McAleer, an early ski enthusiast who lived across the street from her in Brookline, Mass. They were married Sept. 2, 1939, at Mohican Point, the Bixby family vacation residence in Bolton Landing, N.Y., overlooking Lake George, where they continued to summer together until his death in 1989.

Marguerite "Peggy" Bussing
QUEENSBURY - Marguerite "Peggy" Bussing went to the arms of our Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at her home with her loving family by her side. She was 87 years old.

Born May 23, 1921, in Fort Miller, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Paul and Laura (Borden) Willette.

Peggy graduated in 1939, from Schuylerville High School.

Ruth S. Lape
FORT EDWARD - Ruth S. Lape, 92, of Park Avenue, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at her home.

Arrangements are pending, under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Edward A. Stewart
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Edward A. Stewart, 76, of Finley Street, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his home.

Born in Ballston Spa, April 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Alexander and Emma Stewart.

He loved animals, his baseball card collection and puzzles.

Diana Jean Cole
WELLS, Vt. - Diana Jean (Duel) Cole passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a strong and courageous 16-year battle with breast cancer.

Diana was born on Feb. 19, 1946, in Granville, N.Y., the daughter of Lawrence and Elsie (Hall) Duel.

Diana was a graduate of Granville High School. She was employed in manufacturing for many years; at Staco in Poultney, Vt., from 1976 through 1985, Burton Snowboards in Manchester, Vt., from 1985 through 1988, General Electric in Rutland, Vt.. from 1988 through 1992, and most recently at Orvis in Sunderland, Vt., from 1992 until her retirement.

Janice Ellen Pingrey
SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Janice Ellen Pingrey, 65, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls, N.Y. 12803.

GANSEVOORT - Michael F. Ferren, 22, a resident of Gansevoort, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Albany Medical Center, after he was struck by a car on Route 50 in Gansevoort late Monday night.

Helen Mary (Cardwell) O'Brien
SALEM - Helen Mary (Cardwell) O'Brien, 82, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Wesley Health Care Center, Inc., Saratoga Springs.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at Stafford Funeral Home, Inc., 90 Montcalm St., Lake George.

Lewis J. 'Pat' Jenkins
HADLEY - Lewis J. "Pat" Jenkins, age 90, formerly of Conklingville Road, lost his battle with Alzheimer's on Tuesday evening, March 31, 2009, at the Fulton County Infirmary, Gloversville.

Born on July 7, 1918, in Edinburg, he was the son of John and Irene (Briner) Jenkins. He attended school in the town of Day.

He married Dora M. Stone on Nov. 29, 1941. Mrs. Jenkins died on Jan. 22, 1990.

Valentino 'Val' Rudolfo Russo
SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Valentino "Val" Rudolfo Russo, age 81, passed away in the loving arms of his wife at their home in Largo, Fla., on Monday, March 30, 2009.

Friends and family may call on Sunday, April 5, 2009, between 4 and 7 p.m. at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls, N.Y.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, 80 Saratoga Road, South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, the pastor, officiating.

Ilene Adams
HUDSON FALLS - Ilene Adams, 84, passed into the loving arms of her creator on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at her home.

Born on Jan. 23, 1925, in Poultney, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Christie Anna Roberts. Ilene settled in the Hudson Falls area in 1950.

Ilene loved traveling by motor home to Hunter Mountain for country western festivals and square dancing. She was a lifetime member of the CB Club. Ilene traveled with her husband, Charles, across the country to visit sisters, nieces, nephews and friends in California and Florida. Her favorite trip was to the Holy Land in 1987 with her sister, Vicky, where Ilene walked in the steps that Jesus walked and the stories of the Bible came to life. She loved to play hymns on her organ and, later, to listen to her granddaughter play the piano. Ilene joined the United Methodist Church in Hudson Falls and later changed to The Greater Glens Falls Bible Baptist Church.

Hilda Martha (Sherlock) Waage
ORLANDO, Fla. - Hilda Martha (Sherlock) Waage, RN, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, in Orlando, Fla.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John; sons: John, Jeffrey and David; daughters-in-law, Diane and Maureen; the loves of her life, her grandchildren: Christopher, John, Jennifer and Jerry; and her great-grandchildren, Lola and Zoe.

Mom/Gram/GG loved to play piano, sing and get out of the house to shop, and to be with and talk to her hundreds of friends and extended family. She loved life, people and God, spreading that love everday to everyone. She'll live in our hearts forever.

Thaddeus H. Faleski
QUEENSBURY - Thaddeus H. Faleski, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at his home in Queensbury, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Nov. 30, 1924, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late Paul and Stephanie (Duda) Faleski.

Thaddeus H. Faleski served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Stasia A. Coombs
WHITEHALL, N.Y. - Stasia A. Coombs, age 55, of Whitehall, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at her residence in Whitehall, N.Y., with her family by her side.

Stasia was born in Russia on July 26, 1953, daughter of the late Stash and Anna (Ulascko) Kiewlen.

She married her husband, James Coombs in Ticonderoga, N.Y., on Aug. 15, 1992.

Thomas E. Durkee
SCHUYLERVILLE - Thomas E. Durkee, 73, of Morgan's Run, Schuylerville, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

Edna Mae Dickinson Kobor
SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Edna Mae Dickinson Kobor, 93, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at Pleasant Valley Infirmary in Argyle. Edna was a longtime resident of Stewart Avenue in the village of South Glens Falls. She would have celebrated her 94th birthday this month on the 14th.

Edna was predeceased by her parents, Elwood and Nellie (Green) Dickinson, and her brothers, Lyle and Floyd Dickinson. She was also predeceased by husband, Joseph and her eldest son, Capt. David J Kobor, USN (retired), of South Glens Falls.

Prior to his passing on May 26, 1991, Edna and Joe celebrated their 50 years of marriage to one another.

Marvin J. (Butch) Knobel
HUDSON FALLS - Marvin J. (Butch) Knobel, 58, a resident of Hudson Falls, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2009, at Glens Falls, Hospital following a long illness.

Born on Feb. 2, 1951, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Marvin J. and Lucille (Fitzgerald) Knobel.

Marvin was a self-employed landscaper who loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed camping and cookouts, but most of all, spending time with his family.

Janet M. Fuller
Glens Falls - Janet M. Fuller passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the age of 70 at Glens Falls Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Luther and Marion (Brown) Chatterton.

Janet enjoyed many things such as jigsaw puzzles, fishing and rooting for her favorite teams, the Yankees and Giants. She loved playing with her grandchildren and was family-oriented, which made her time she spent with her family very precious to her. Janet was known for not sugar coating her words, always saying it like it was. Her friends all knew her as the "Loving Old Hag."

Janet's parents, Luther and Marion (Brown) Chatterton, predeceased her; as well as her husband, Ronald Fuller; her brother Luther Chatterton; her sister, Ruby Mosher; and her nephew Luther Chatterton Jr. "Little Ikie."

Mildred 'Millie' Kathleen 'Christie' Coe
Glens Falls - Mildred "Millie" Kathleen "Christie" Coe passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 10, 2009.

Millie was born and educated in Montreal. She was the daughter of Leslie H. and Katherine "Osborn" Christie.

Millie met Euclid "Ed" Coe in Montreal, where he was a pilot. They spent many years traveling and enjoying their family and friends.

Granville, N.Y. - William A. Galloway passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, at his residence. Arrangements are pending at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St. Granville, N.Y.

Alfred R. Graham, Ph.D.
BURNT HILLS - Alfred R. Graham, Ph.D., 82, of Beechwood Drive, died at home on April 10, 2009.

Dr. Graham was born in Middletown, N.Y., the son of the late Robert R. and Greta Rapp Graham.

He was a graduate of Middletown High School and then went on to graduate Cum Laude with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University in 1951; a master's (1953) in mechanical engineering and a doctorate (1957) from Purdue University.
