Clair R. Gray Jr.

WALTON — Clair R. Gray Jr. (Junior) of Walton died Friday, June 21, 2002, at home with his family by his side. He was 68.

Mr. Gray retired from the Walton Foundry in 1981. He had also worked for several years as a truck driver for Breakstone Dairy in Walton and for the Fraziers Corp. of Delhi. He also worked construction.

Junior loved to hunt and fish and to just relax on his porch swing admiring his beautiful flowers. He loved the outdoors and loved spending time and playing with all his great-grandchildren. They were all very special to him. He will be greatly missed by each and every one. He was a very special angel.

Junior was born on May 23, 1934, to Clair and Carrie Puffer Gray in Cannonsville.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Earline Gray; seven daughters, JoAnne Johnson, Debra Constable and Robin Sprague, all of Walton, Penny Stanton, Kathy Kelsey and Jackie Cole, all of Tennessee, and Terrina LaTourette of Oneonta; two brothers, James of Walton and Jerold of Tennessee; five sisters, Dorothy Seymour of Sidney, Donna Kingsbury and Clara Belle Closs of Walton, Janet MacClenathon of Florida and Dora Curtain of Tennessee. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who loved their granddaddy very much; along with several nieces and nephews.

Junior was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Steinbacker and Herriott Hutchinson; and his brother, Michael Gray.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, with the Rev. David Wheatley officiating, at Lyon Bros.-Way Inc., corner of North and Delaware streets in Walton, where family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m.

Contributions may be made in his loving memory to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Susan M. Whitney

FRANKLIN — A memorial service for Susan M. Whitney, who passed away on Jan. 11, 2002, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002, at St. Paul's Church, on the corner of Main and Institute streets in Franklin. Father Mike Shank will preside over the service.

Family will be present and all who knew Susan are welcome to attend.

She was a longtime resident of Franklin, and an elementary teacher in Treadwell for many years.

James Couden Jr.

ONEONTA — Memorial services for James S. Couden Jr., who passed away May 13, 2002, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Ford Avenue in Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Margaret M. Hillis

HOBART — Margaret Mary Murphy Hillis, 65, of Hobart went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 23, 2002, after a courageous, but brief, battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 24, 1937, in Hobart, the daughter of Rosemary McMullen Murphy.

Margaret graduated with honors from Stamford Central School in 1954.

She worked in the area for many years as a waitress and caregiver.

She married Roderick Hillis on July 21, 1961. They started the Hobart Farm Service and Hardware in 1984, which they later sold to their daughter and son-in-law. She continued to work for them up until her illness.

She felt her greatest accomplishment and love in life was her children and grandchildren.

Maggie had a love for reading, music, flower gardens, painting and a thirst for knowledge. Her hobby of visiting the ocean and visiting and collecting lighthouses was her passion.

She is survived by her husband, Roderick Hillis, at home; daughters and sons-in-law, Rose Gutliph and companion, Tim, Debra and Otis Peterson, Lisa Alleyne, Laurie and Jim Wehmeyer, Stephanie and Keith Dibble, Amy and Charlie Reinshagen, Julie and Bill Sechrist, Tim Gutliph; and grandchildren, Jessica Gutliph and Tracy, Lyndsey Peterson, Kevin, David and Devon Alleyne, Adam and Kyra Wehmeyer and Yuan, Brandon and Tyler Dibble, Matthew Reinshagen and Rebekkah, and Jordyn Hillis-Sechrist. Her brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Margarethe Murphy, West Winfield, Dennis and Gloria Murphy, Colorado, Susan Murphy, Colorado, John Murphy, North Carolina, Jerry Murphy, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews also survive her.

Her mother, Rosemary Murphy; her brother, Richard Murphy; and her grandson, Shannon Ramp predeceased her.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2002, at the Hobart Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bert More officiating.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening, June 26, 2002, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Patrick M. Camier

KITTERY, Maine — Patrick Michael Camier, 47, of Kittery, Maine, lived here the past seven years. Patrick passed away suddenly on Dec. 11, 2001.

He is survived by his significant other of 19 years, Robert L. Collins Jr.; his aunt, Lorraine Hill; and his cousins, Dawn Hill, Renee, Raymond, Mark and John Canning.

He was born in Englewood, N.J. Pat was a former resident of Englewood and Westward, N.J., where he went to Don Bosco Catholic Schools. He then moved to upstate New York, where he lived in Oneonta and worked for Uncle Ernie's Lemonade for 16 years.

He also was on the Board of Directors for the city of Utica for seven years.

He also worked at the Baseball Hall of Fame and helped build Mariah Carey's house with Wind Hill Builders.

He moved to Maine seven years ago and worked at the York Golf & Tennis Club as the bar and grill manager.

Patrick was a good Christian. He was a fun, kind, loving and caring individual, who opened his home to all those he knew in need of shelter and food. He was a provider of those in need. He is now residing in God's kingdom and will truly be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2002, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons, N.Y.

Gertrude DeGelleke

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Gertrude Berray DeGelleke, 93, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, Fla.

She was born Feb. 8, 1909, in Sanitaria Springs, N.Y.

She graduated from Good Shepard School of Nursing, Syracuse University.

She lived many years in Delhi, N.Y., was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and active in community affairs. Upon her husband's retirement, she moved to Englewood, Fla., and after her husband's death, to Cape Coral, Fla.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan D. Lach (Mrs. Borys Lach); grandchildren, Janet Tindall, Tamara Howard and Michael Lach; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, John B. DeGelleke; and her husband, Ralph R. DeGelleke, retired principal at Delaware Academy.

Memorial service was held in Cape Coral. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Williamson, N.Y.

Contributions to the R.R. DeGelleke Scholarship Fund at Delaware Academy or Hope Hospice as a memorial donation are suggested.

Grace Granlees

DELHI — Grace Granlees, 72, of the town of Franklin died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at home.

She was born Oct. 17, 1929, in New York City, the daughter of William J. and Anna (Mullally) Hattridge.

She married Raymond C. Granlees on Jan. 15, 1977, in Delhi. He died Dec. 26, 1987.

Mrs. Granlees lived in the town of Franklin for 30 years, where she served as the town clerk for many years. Previously she worked as a secretary for Warsaw Insurance in New York City.

She was a member of the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Delhi and of the local Republican Committee.

A daughter, Mrs. Catherine Finne,  Jackson Heights; a granddaughter, Hannah; a brother, Paul F. Hattridge, Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews survive her.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Delhi, with the Rev. James McDevitt officiating.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening, June 25, 2002, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Burial will be at West Delhi Cemetery, West Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Roy O. Malmgren

COOPERSTOWN — Roy O. Malmgren, 80, formerly of Manlius, died Monday evening, June 24, 2002, at The Meadows.

Roy was born on Nov. 28, 1921, in Brockton, Mass., a son of Swedish immigrants John M. and Anna K. (Swedberg) Malmgren.

He married Joyce E. Heller on May 18, 1956, in the Baldwinsville Presbyterian Church. Joyce died on Oct. 5, 1978.

At the age of 2, Roy and his family moved from Brockton, Mass., to Syracuse, where he graduated from Nottingham High School. He then went on to attend Syracuse University, where he received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1943. That same year, he entered the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. In 1946, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, yet he continued to serve in the Naval Reserves until 1955, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of lieutenant.

As an electrical engineer, Roy had a successful career with General Electric and RCA.

Following the completion of his active military service in 1946, he was employed by General Electric in Syracuse until 1976, when he came under the employment of RCA in Moorestown, N.J., retiring in 1980.

Roy was actively involved with Little League, the Boy Scouts of America and Meals on Wheels.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Christine E. Malmgren of Cooperstown; his two sons, John M. Malmgren of Canastota and Joseph J. Malmgren; his wife, Jeanne of Allegany; one grandson; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Roy was predeceased by his one brother and two sisters.

A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas Deer, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, officiating.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2002, in the chapel at the First Baptist Church of Manlius, 408 Pleasant St., Manlius, with the Rev. Deer officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in the Manlius Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Central New York, 441 Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204, or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820, or to a charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Kathleen E. Frase

COBLESKILL — Kathleen Elaine Frase, 59, of Cobleskill died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Ellis Center for Long Time Care, Schenectady.

Mrs. Frase was born Feb. 25, 1943, in Oneonta, daughter of Katherine Matuljak and Maynard Skinner.

She was a graduate of Cobleskill High School in 1961 and Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1964.

She was married in 1964 to Robert W. Frase and lived in numerous states and countries, including Spain, Okinawa, Puerto Rico, Maine and Virginia, during her husband's military career. During those years, she followed her nursing career at San Jorge General Hospital, San Juan, Puerto Rico, East Coast Regional Hospital, Ellsworth, Maine, Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va., Community Hospital of Schoharie County, Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County and Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.

She ran a daycare center while at the U.S. Navy Base at Rota, Spain.

Mrs. Frase is survived by her husband, Robert W.; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Mark Veley, all of Richmondville; a son, Douglas Frase, Cobleskill; a sister, Virginia O'Connor, Worcester; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Zachary Velay of Richmondville.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2002, at the United Methodist Church of Richmondville, Main Street, Richmondville, with the Rev. Jared Van Wagenen officiating.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel St., Cobleskill.

Interment will be held in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.

Memorials in her name to your favorite charity will be appreciated.
