Bernard S. 'Bunky' Baker
CHESTERTOWN - Bernard S. (Bunky) Baker, 67, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at his home after a long illness.

Born Nov. 19, 1941, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Bernard M. and Nora (Hayes) Baker.

Mr. Baker was a retired water commissioner for the town of Chester. He was a plumber for many local companies in the Chestertown area. He was a past member of the Glens Falls Independent Hunting Club and the Chestertown Conservation Club. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Helen Zekus
GRANVILLE - Helen Zekus, 90, of 34 Brookside Acres Road, Granville, passed April 16, 2009, at the Orchard after a short illness.

Helen was born March 20, 1919, in the town of Hastings, N.Y. She was the daughter of Anna (Kropop) and Michael Nyemchek.

She married John J. Zekus of Tarrytown, who passed in 1978. In addition to being predeceased by her parents and husband, John, she was predeceased by her sisters: Rose Bear, Mary Rooney, and Mary Ann Scallero; and brothers Frank, Michael and John Nyemchek.

Matthew P. Marino Sr.
CLIFTON PARK - Matthew P. Marino Sr., 89, of Clifton Park, was called by The Lord Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the Stratton V.A. Medical Center with his family by his side.

Born in Brooklyn, Matthew was a decorated World War II veteran in the U.S. Army and saw action in a number of war fronts in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star, The Purple Heart and the Conspicuous Service Cross.

He was most loved by those who survive him, including his wife of 64 years, Marie; his son Matthew Jr.; his daughter-in-law Wendy; his granddaughters, Stacy (Steve) Capace, and Meighan Liss; and his several great-granchildren: Max, CJ, Andie, Gus, Luke, Lili and Brady. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charlotte Simon Duval
GLENS FALLS - It is with deep sadness that the families of Charlotte Simon Duval announce her passing on April 15, 2009, at the Pines Nursing Home in Glens Falls, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Simon, two of her eight children, Charlene Meczywor and David Simon; her grandson, Jerry Simon Jr.; her granddaughters, Sandra Godfrey, Christine and Cindy Cretellie; her brothers: Frank, Kent, George, Pete and Harry Bounds; and her sisters, Emma Floyd and Jessie Crandall.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Cliff Duval, of Hudson Falls; daughters: Judy Collins and her husband, Phil, of Leesburg, Fla.; Rose Fitzgerald of Greenwich; Sandy McKowen and her husband, John, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and Linda Godfrey and her husband, Bill, of Greenwich; sons: Danny Simon and his wife, Chris, of Port Orange, Fla.; and Jerry Simon and his wife, Bonnie, of Greenwich; daughter-in-law, Mary Simon of Greenwich; sister, Hattie, of Saratoga Springs; and three stepchildren: Gary Duval of Glens Falls and Colleen Vannier and Cynthia Schoelermann of Queensbury. She also leaves behind 54 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Lillian N. Hall
WHITEHALL - Lillian N. Hall, 88, of Elizabeth Street, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Schuyler Ridge Residential Health Center in Clifton Park, following a short illness.

Born on April 12, 1921, in Whitehall, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Hazel (McKee) Newell.

She was a resident of Whitehall for more than 80 years and graduated from Plattsburgh High School and Plattsburgh State Teacher's College. She taught school for 40 years in the Whitehall Central School District.

Rodney L. Currier
QUEENSBURY - Rodney L. Currier, 77, a resident of Queensbury, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

He was born on March 11, 1932, to his loving parents, Clara (Sherman) Currier and H. Paul Currier.

Rodney was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War and a parachute rigger third class, who was awarded the National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals.

Anna B. Sherman
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Anna B. Sherman, 91, a former longtime resident of Lake Avenue and the Stonequist Apartments, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa.

Born on Dec. 5, 1917, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Katzman) Suckman.

Anna attended Glens Falls Schools.

Donald C. Hurley
QUEENSBURY - Donald C. Hurley, 73, of Wintergreen Road, passed peacefully into the Lord's arms surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 17, 2009, at his home.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Mabb, officiating.

Robin K. Mattoon-Meyer
CORINTH - Robin K. Mattoon-Moyer, 51, of Main Street, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at Glens Falls Hospital following a 10-year battle with cancer.

Arrangements are pending under the direction of Densmore Funeral Home Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth.

John 'Jack' W. Dunsmore Jr.
LAKE GEORGE - John "Jack" W. Dunsmore Jr., 81, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness.

Born Sept. 8, 1927, in North Adams, Mass., he was the son of John William Dunsmore Sr. and Mabel (Neville) Dunsmore.

Jack was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Edmund J. Magee
GANSEVOORT - Edmund J. Magee, of Heritage Way, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at his residence. He was 79.

Born on Dec. 29, 1929, in New York City, he was the son of the late Owen and Jane (Connley) Magee.

He worked as an engineer at Mount McGregor in Wilton for several years and later enjoyed working at Hannaford on Route 50.

William McDowell
HUDSON FALLS - William McDowell, 91, a longtime resident of Hudson Falls, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at home.

Born on Nov. 4, 1917, in Welland, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late William and Grace E. (Morgan) McDowell.

Mr. McDowell was a graduate of Syracuse University.

Noreen D. Baker
SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Noreen D. Baker, 54, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 3, 2009.

Born on Dec. 27, 1954, in Glens Falls, N.Y., she was the daughter of Ella (Thorstensen) Baker and the late George R. Baker.

Noreen graduated from South Glens Falls High School and went on to graduate with a degree in education from Northern Colorado College. She pursued several business careers with companies that included Ma Bell Telephone, Lucent Technology, and more recently, Frontier Airlines in Colorado.

Jeremiah "Jeremy" M. Tessier
LAKE LUZERNE - Jeremiah "Jeremy" M. Tessier, 19, of Lake Avenue, died Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2009, at Albany Medical Center.

Born on May 11, 1989, in Albany, he was the son of Robert Tessier and Linda Prince.

Jeremy was a 2008 graduate of Hadley-Luzerne High School and prior to moving to the area with his family in 2001, attended Cairo-Durham elementary and middle schools.

Harriett M. Rowland
MOREAU - Harriet M. Rowland, 83, of Lamplighter Acres, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 21, 1926, in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Ethel (Dingmon) Closson.

Mrs. Rowland attended Saratoga Springs High School.

John M. Cifone
GLENS FALLS - John M. Cifone, 87, of Glens Falls, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family following a short illness.

Born Oct. 5, 1921, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Matteo and Angeline (Esperti) Cifone.

He was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1939.

Gladys Rose Greene
HEBRON - Gladys Rose Greene, 65, of Hebron, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy A. Foote
QUEENSBURY - Dorothy A. Foote, 93, of Sugarbush Drive, Queensbury, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

Grace Marie (Zoda) Bertolotti
QUEENSBURY - Grace Marie (Zoda) Bertolotti, 75, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Stafford Funeral Home Inc., of Lake George.

Susan G. (Oatway) Foley-Robinson
HOLDEN, Mass. - Susan G. (Oatway) Foley-Robinson, 43, of Shrewsbury Street, died in Worcester, Mass., on Thursday, May 14, 2009.

She leaves her sons, Stephen M. Foley and Richard Xavier Robinson, both of Worcester; a stepdaughter, Amber Robinson of Lexington, S.C.; her mother, Karen H. (Hubert) Becker and her husband, Paul, of Holden; her father, Michael E. Oatway of Boca Raton, Fla.; her sister, Lisa Larson and her husband, Kenneth, of  Jefferson; nieces and nephews, including Allie and Joe Larson of  Jefferson; aunts, uncles, cousins; and her former in-laws, Bernie and Joan Foley of Worcester.

Sue was predeceased by her first husband, Stephen C. Foley. She also leaves her former husband, Richard Robinson, and many friends who loved her dearly.

James R. Duckett
BOGALUSA, La. - James R. Duckett, 76, a resident of Bogalusa, La., passed away on May 15, 2009, at the  Louisiana State University Medical Center in Bogalusa, La.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1932, and was originally from Ticonderoga, N.Y.

He retired from Price Chopper Supermarket in Queensbury, N.Y. He was a member of Full Foundation Pentecostal Church in Glens Falls, N.Y.

Katherine E. Guitar
WHITEHALL - Katherine E. Guitar, 86, of county Route 12, passed away unexpectedly at her home on May 15, 2009.

Born on Feb. 14, 1923, in Ticonderoga, she was the daughter of the late William and Ella (Bennett) Manell.

She worked for many years at Champlain Silk Mill, the Whitehall Coat Factory, Sears Roebuck and Company, and Chase's Grocery Store.
