Lounetta Antczak

DELHI — Lounetta M. Antczak, 67, of Delhi died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Albany Medical Center, Albany.

She was born Nov. 1, 1934, in New Jersey, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Allen) Stieve.

She married Edward Antczak on June 14, 1958, in South Orange, N.J. He predeceased her on Oct. 9, 1986.

A longtime area resident, Lounetta enjoyed gardening and was a softball umpire for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Brigitta (Jim) Elwell of Delhi; and a son, Edward Antczak Jr. of Delhi; several grandchildren, Amber and Adam  Jones of Delhi, and Patrick and Lindsay Antczak of Taunton, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Lisa Heckman officiating.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in Lounetta's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 59 Court St., 4th Floor, Binghamton, NY 13903, or the National Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd St., Suite 1100, New York, NY 10016.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Helen D. Gray

WALTON — Helen D. Gray, 88, of Walton passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at her residence.

She was born in Shavertown on March 9, 1914, the daughter of George and Laura (Banks) Banks.

She married Marshall Gray on June 14, 1938. He died on May 2, 1978.

Mrs. Gray retired in 1983 from Countryside Care Center in Delhi, where she worked in the housekeeping department.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Virginia and Charles Kampas of Tampa, Fla., James L. Gray of Tampa, Fla., and Betty and Paul Keen of Walton; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Edith Sitts of North Franklin, and Eleanor Doyle of  Texas; along with several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin, with the Rev. Delbert Ripley of the Northfield Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Mary S. Mitch

VERONA, Pa. — Mary S. Mitch, 80, of Seneca Hill Manor died on Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in the Presbyterian Hospital.

She had lived in Mercer and Butler, Pa., and for 18 years in Fort Mill, S.C., before moving to Verona, Pa.

She was married to Joseph E. Mitch. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are four children, Margaret Phelps of Park Forest, Ill., J. Robert Mitch of Springfield, Ore., Ann Mitch-Resignalo of Pittsburgh, Pa., and James Mitch of Masury, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

In accordance with her wishes, she donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in St. Andrew's Church, Hampton Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa.

Memorial contributions in Mary's name may be made to a charity of your choice.

Local arrangements are through J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

James H. Murphy

SIDNEY — James H. Murphy, 72, of Sidney died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Sharon's Home for Adults in Sidney.

He was born Oct. 4, 1929, son of the late James N. and Margaret Dean Murphy in Newark, N.J.

James is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Irene Murphy, Unadilla; two daughters and son-in-law, Deborah and James Liddle, Sidney, and Diane Wenneis, Hopatcong, N.J.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special friend, Catherine Murphy, Sidney.

He was also predeceased by a son, Daniel Gray.

Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. The family will be in attendance for visitation at 7 p.m. before the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

James Gardner

ONEONTA — James "Everett" Gardner, 80, of St. James Manor, and formerly of Otego, passed away peacefully, Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 16, 1922, in New York City, the son of Edwin and Catherine (Leahy) Gardner.

He married Irene Salonen on June 5, 1948, in St. Paul's Chapel in New York City. She died Aug. 31, 1997.

James served in the U.S. Navy from September 1942 until February 1946, having attained the rank of chief motor machinist while serving on a destroyer escort in the Chinese, Burma and Indian Theater, as a member of the S.A.C.O. organization.

He retired after 22 years of service from the NYC Police Department as a lieutenant in 1969. For several years after his retirement he was employed as a driving instructor and for GEICO Insurance Co. in Smithtown.

He moved to Otego in 1987, and after his wife died, moved to St. James Manor.

Mr. Gardner enjoyed living in the Oneonta area with his wife, family and friends.

He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harold J. and Victoria Gardner, and their children, Everett and Emilee; three daughters, Linda and her husband, Gary, of Laurens, and their son and daughter-in-law, John and Tabatha, and their children, Mitchell, Sean and Lindsey, also granddaughter, Stacy Carrigan and her son, John Douglas; daughter, Susanne and her husband, Joseph Raymond, of Oneonta, and children, Jennifer, Abigail, Amy and Johnathan; and daughter, Alison Boss and grandchildren, David Jake Boss and Nicole Boss, and Nicole's children, Issac and Kayla and her fiance, Matt Green; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Edwin and William; sisters, Rose, Mae and Kathleen; and son-in-law, Rickey Boss.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Edward Ryan officiating. Cremation will follow.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, when the family will be in attendance.

Those who wish may make contributions to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Reginald E. Allen

SIDNEY CENTER — Reginald E. "Reggie" Allen, 57, of Sidney Center passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 1, 1945, in Walton, the son of Ernest and Mary (Jacobson) Allen.

He married Kathleen Dolan Cusano on July 22, 1984, in Scotia.

Reggie graduated from the O'Neill High School in Walton in 1963. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1997, where he received a master's degree in science and business education.

From 1994 to 1999, he was an admissions counselor at the New England Job Corps in Portland, Maine.

Before that he served with the U.S. Navy, and retired from active duty with 22 years of service.

A lifelong area resident, Reggie was a member of the Northfield Community Church, the American Legion and the Brunswick, Maine, Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Allen, of Sidney Center; his mother, Mary Allen of Sidney Center; his children, Melissa Cusano of Scotia, Bryan Allen of Colorado, Christopher Cusano of Clifton Park, Dennis Allen of Sidney Center, and Rebecca Allen of Oneonta. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Barbara Lathan of Walton, Floyd Allen of Sidney Center, Howard Allen of Oneida, and Virginia O'Dell of Walton; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Delbert Ripley, pastor of the Northfield Community Church, officiating.

Friends may call on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are with the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

James Thompson

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — James Atwood Thompson, age 71, of Sheridan Road passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Little Falls Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1930, son of the late Amos and Cecelia Atwood Thompson in Lampertville, N.J.

James was raised and educated in New Jersey; upon his completion of high school he joined the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1949.

He furthered his education and obtained a degree in telecommunications. He was employed at A.T.&T. as a telecommunication technician for 33 years, retiring in 1984.

On Feb. 15, 1975, he married Ruth Worth in the LaFayette Federated Church in LaFayette, N.J. In 1999 they moved from New Jersey and settled in Richfield Springs.

James was a devoted and loving husband who had a special love for his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Ruth; two sons, Jack Perry of Bethlehem, Pa., and Dennis Perry of Dingmans, Pa.; two daughters, Beverly Mathewson of Sussex, N.J., and Carol Vreeland of Wantage, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Perry, Lisa Conklin, Benjamin Perry, Michelle VanDam, Christopher Perry, Amy Mathewson, Catherine Perry; and a brother, Marshall Thompson of Orlando, Fla.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Thompson.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Alan Miller, pastor of the Richfield Springs Bible Church, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Lewis F. Ormsbee

ONEONTA — Lewis F. Ormsbee, 59, of Oneonta died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born Jan. 16, 1943, in Oneonta, the son of Adison S. and Pauline (Handvay) Ormsbee Sr.

He was a self-employed painter in Oneonta for many years.

He is survived by his son, Robert Branciforte of Portland, Conn.; three grandsons, Robert Jr., Jonathan and Anthony Branciforte, all of Portland, Conn.; one brother, Adison S. Ormsbee Jr. of Grand Gorge; and one sister, Mary of Middleburgh.

Lewis was predeceased by one sister, Rose Ormsbee, and one brother, Bucky Ormsbee.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Anthony J. Gergich

COBLESKILL — Anthony J. Gergich, 70, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.

He was born June 24, 1932, in East Worcester, the son of Anton Jr. and Angela (Kenik) Gergich.

Anthony attended the Worcester Central School.

He was married to Lillian Rose  Johnson and then Jane Oliver Buckley, both who have predeceased him.

Anthony was employed at Everlon Fabrics for 24 years as a knitting mechanic in Closter, N.J., then transferred to Cape May, N.J. He was also employed at Woodbine State School and Beacon Looms in Teaneck, N.J., and retired from the Quick Check in Bogata, N.J., where he was a baker and coffee hostess.

He moved to Cobleskill in 2000.

He is survived by his children, Dean Gergich and wife, Shelby Tilison, Michael Gergich and Alan Gergich, all of Cobleskill, Deryl Gergich of Schenectady and Sandra Geronimo of  Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mary  Taylor of Kentucky and Josephine Gutierrez of Iselin, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by a sister, Anna Rose, and a brother, Stanley.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Lillian Domion

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Lillian Domion, 74, of East James Street passed away on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born on June 1, 1928, in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late Sylvester and Lucille Domion.

A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, she graduated from Richfield Springs High School.

She was a parishioner of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.

Surviving are her companion of 35 years, John Anderson, of Richfield Springs; a sister, Veronica Giles of Benson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Domion.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terrance Healey officiating.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

David R. Sloane

CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. — David R. Sloane, 50, of Citrus Springs, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at the Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla.

He had lived in Greene, N.Y. He and his family moved to Citrus Springs in 1989, from Bainbridge, N.Y.

He was a financial planner in the financial industry.

He was a member of North Oak Baptist Church of Citrus Springs, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sloane, of Citrus Springs, Fla.; his mother, Alleen Sloane of Unadilla, N.Y.; two sons, Kristian Sloane and Spenser Sloane, both of Citrus Springs, Fla.; daughter, Summer Sloane of New York; brother, Gary Sloane of New York; sister, Terri Neeley of New York; and two nieces and one nephew.

Arrangements were by Fero Funeral Home, Dunnellon Chapel, Fla.

Jean A. Robinson

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Jean Alice Collins Robinson, 79, of Walnut Street in Cooperstown died Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, 2002, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Jean was born on Jan. 22, 1923, in Syracuse, a daughter of John J. and Mildred (Hummel) Collins.

She married James Alexander Robinson on July 5, 1952, in Syracuse. Mr. Robinson died on Nov. 9, 1994.

Raised and educated in Syracuse, Jean attended Syracuse University, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in English.

In September of 1945, she moved to Cooperstown where she taught high school English and drama at the Cooperstown Central School. Retiring in 1954, Jean devoted herself to raising her family, but remained active in the life of Cooperstown Central School as a substitute teacher and as a faithful supporter of its many activities.

Of the Episcopal faith, Jean was an active and devoted member of Christ Church in Cooperstown where she served on the Flower Committee, at rummage sales and at one time taught Sunday school.

Jean was currently an honorary member of the Cooperstown Women's Club and served as its president from 1962 until 1964. A volunteer at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital for many years, she also volunteered for the Susquehanna SPCA in Hyde Park, was a subscriber at the Leatherstocking Golf Course and was currently serving as a member of the board of directors of the Cooperstown Village Library.

Remembered as a loving wife and mother, Jean is survived by her three children, Dr. James Alan Robinson and his wife, Jane, of York, Pa., Jeffrey Blake Robinson and his wife, Jane, of Matthews, N.C., and Jill Anne Robinson of Alexandria, Va.; three granddaughters, Emily Jane Robinson, Rachel Elizabeth Robinson and Lindsey Brooke Robinson; one grandson, Kiefer Blake Robinson; one brother, John J. Collins of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and two nieces, Priscilla Collins O'Hara of Pittsburgh and Cynthia Collins Peters of Slingerlands.

The Office of the Burial of the Dead with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Christ Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas C. Smith, rector, officiating. A reception will follow in the Sill Parish House at Christ Church.

There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts, may be made to the James Alexander Robinson Scholarship Fund at the Cooperstown Central School, 38 Linden Ave., Cooperstown, NY 13326 or a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
