Grace M. Peck

STAMFORD — Grace M. Peck, 90, of Peck Street, Stamford, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at the Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

Mrs. Peck was born in Dolgesville, the daughter of the late Herbert and the late Gertrude (Rockefeller) Darling.

She was married to J. Irving Peck II on May 18, 1938. He predeceased her in 2000.

Mrs. Peck lived in Stamford for the past 74 years, having moved there from Starkville in 1928.

Besides being a homemaker, she worked as a cauliflower agent in the 1950s, was an employee of Green Thumb and was a Harpersfield Town Committee representative.

Mrs. Peck was a member of and past officer of the Stamford Bathgate Hospital Board; a member and past matron of the Utsyantha Chapter of the Eastern Star; and a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford.

She was active in community affairs and enjoyed family gatherings.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Margaret Peck of Schenectady; a grandson, Matthew, of Schenectady; a granddaughter, Stacey, of Schenectady; a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Elizabeth Darling of Stamford; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Irv, of Stamford, she was predeceased by one brother, Stanley R. Darling, and two sisters, Irene (Darling) Bauder and Gertrude (Darling) Decker.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, in the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, with the Rev. Adrian McFarlane, Ph.D., officiating.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, P.O. Box 88, Delhi, NY 13753.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Florence English

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florence English, 95, passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, in Jacksonville, Fla.

Florence was born in  Jefferson, N.Y., daughter of Alfred and Elva Dyer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren English.

She is survived by a brother, John L. Dyer of Jacksonville, Fla.; two nieces, Patricia Coffing and Margaret Dyer of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one nephew, John Dyer II of Atlanta, Ga.

Florence was active as an Eastern Star, becoming Worthy Matron of the  Jefferson Lodge.

Florence worked for many years manufacturing gloves in Richmondville, N.Y., later moving to Morris, N.Y., where she was caretaker for Mrs. Morris at the Morris Estate.

Florence retired to Eustis, Fla., for 15 years before moving to a retirement home in Jacksonville, Fla.

A graveside prayer service will be held in  Jefferson, N.Y., at a later date.

David R. Sloane

CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. — David R. Sloane, 50, of Citrus Springs, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at the Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla.

He had lived in Greene, N.Y. He and his family moved to Citrus Springs in 1989, from Bainbridge, N.Y.

He was a financial planner in the financial industry.

He was a member of North Oak Baptist Church of Citrus Springs, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sloane, of Citrus Springs, Fla.; his mother, Alleen Sloane, of Unadilla, N.Y.; his father, Richard Sloane, of Bainbridge, N.Y.; two sons, Kristian Sloane and Spenser Sloane, both of Citrus Springs, Fla.; daughter, Summer Sloane, of New York; brother, Gary Sloane, of New York; sister, Terri Neeley, of New York; and two nieces and one nephew.

Arrangements were by Fero Funeral Home, Dunnellon Chapel, Fla.

Helen Hoenderop

SIDNEY — Helen Hoenderop, 83, of Sidney died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.

She was born July 24, 1919, daughter of the late Gustav and Frederica Boutenhaus Visser in Rotterdam, Holland.

Helen married Jacobus Hoenderop on Dec. 18, 1940, in Rotterdam.

She was a dedicated servant to Jehovah and loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Hoenderop, Sidney; daughter, Teddie Storey-Henn, Franklin; and her sister, Miep Adema.

A memorial talk will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Sidney.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

Ethel K. Kelly

MARGARETVILLE — Ethel K. Kelly of Margaretville passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital in Margaretville.

She was born in Arena, the daughter of John Tirpak and Rose Kallay.

She married Lyndon Kelly on May 28, 1949, at the Sacred Heart Church in Arkville.

Ethel was a homemaker, and in prior years she worked at the post office in Fleischmanns.

She graduated from Downsville High School.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Margaretville. She enjoyed gardening.

Ethel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Lyndon Kelly, of Margaretville; one son, Larry and Linda Kelly, New Kingston; one daughter, Janice and Kim Skievaski, Pensacola, Fla.; one grandson, Felix, Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Rose Smith of Fleischmanns, Anne Connolly of Bayonne, N.J., and Julia Cantwell of Margaretville; nieces and nephews; and grand nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Margaretville, with the Rev. William A. Gorman as celebrant.

Calling hours will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Burial will be in Bedell Cemetery, Fleischmanns.

Contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice in memory of Ethel K. Kelly.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Howard E. Brown

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Rev. Howard E Brown Jr., retired Presbyterian minister, died in St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, S.C., on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002.

He was the son of Howard E. and Frances Early Brown, born on Aug. 18, 1928, in Collingswood, N.J., growing up in Oneonta, N.Y. He graduated from Oneonta High School, then got a bachelor's degree from Colgate University and received his Divinity Degree from Western Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh. He was sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta and the Susquehanna Valley Presbytery.

He served Presbyterian hurches in Grand Rapids, Ohio; Waterloo, Iowa; Irondequoit, Lima and Utica, N.Y.; McClellandtown, Pa., and Lemont, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Perry Brown; daughter, Tracey Ross and husband James of Denver, N.C.; son, David and wife Melissa of Greenville, S.C.; his sister, Eleanor Brown Hickein and husband Fred of Oneonta, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his son, Craig.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, in John Knox Presbyterian Church, Greenville, S.C. A memorial service will be held in McClellandtown at a later date.

Andrew J. Dresser

PRATTSVILLE — Andrew J. Dresser, 73, of Prattsville died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Benedictine Medical Center in Kingston.

He was born on June 13, 1929, in Oneonta to Frank S. and Mary E. (nee Becker) Dresser.

He is survived by his two sisters, Sue Fick and Mary Jo Kaczmarczyk; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

He had a masters of fine arts from the State University College at Oneonta, worked with the Peace Corps in La Paz, Bolivia, traveled extensively throughout Europe and studied art at the Hague in Holland.

Mr. Dresser was a retired art teacher from Catskill High School. He was also very active in tutoring for the GED programs.

He was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church, a justice of the peace and a member of the Pratt Museum in Prattsville.

Funeral services entrusted to Decker Funeral Home of Windham, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at the Dutch Reformed Church, Prattsville, with the Rev. Dianna Smith presiding.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory to the Dutch Reformed Church of Prattsville, or the Pratt Museum, Prattsville, N.Y., would be greatly appreciated.

Alberta S. Boyd

WALTON — Alberta S. "Bert" Boyd, 71, of South River Road in Walton passed away Friday, August 30, 2002 in Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, after a long illness.

She was born in Shavertown on Oct. 30, 1930, the daughter of Albert and Ila Cole Shaver.

She graduated from Andes Central School and later from Delhi Ag & Tech.

She was employed as a bookkeeper at Marvin-Sholes Insurance Agency in Walton for many years, retiring 10 years ago.

On Aug. 7, 1952, she married Douglas F. Boyd.

Bert was a member of the First Congregational Church in Walton. She was also an avid bowler, belonging to the Wednesday night league and the Tuesday morning league.

She was very talented with knitting and arts and crafts. She made beautiful quilts and often lent her time and talents to many people and organizations, such as the American Cancer Society and the Harvest Fest.

Bert is survived by her husband, Douglas; her son, Wayne D. and Kathy Boyd of Walton; two daughters, Cindy and Dennis Ammon and Christine F. and Skeet Wildey, both of Walton; and five grandchildren, Mac Moneta, Jill and Tevor Ammon and Art and Emmy Boyd.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Clark & Winter Funeral Service, at 25 Townsend St. in Walton.

The funeral service will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. at the Clark & Winter Funeral Service, with the Rev. Bert More officiating.

The internment will be in Walton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, in Bert's memory, may be made to: Catskill Area Hospice, 20 Elm St., Delhi, NY 13753 or the Delaware Valley Hospital, 1 Titus Place, Walton, NY 13856.

Irene L. Corraro

ONEONTA — Irene L. Corraro, 90, of Oneonta died Aug. 30, 2002, at Fox Hospital Nursing Home from a lengthy illness.

She was born July 18, 1912 in Ravena, the daughter of Gennaro and Fortuna Orsino.

Irene married Raffaele Corraro on June 23, 1934, in Ravena. Mr. Corraro died June 25, 1990.

She is survived by three sons, Joseph and his wife, Eileen, of Newport, N.C., Anthony and his wife, Deannine, of Clifton Park and Frank and his wife, Sherry, of Virginia Beach, Va.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and cousins.

Irene was a resident of Oneonta for the past 67 years and until her retirement was employed at the Fairway Manufacturing Co. on Dietz Street in Oneonta.

She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to many. Her warm smile will be remembered and missed by all.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.

Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

Friends may call at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, at 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2002.

Minerva H. West

MIDDLEFIELD — Minerva H. West, 94, of Edmeston died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, in Middlefield.

She was born Sept. 10, 1907, in West Burlington, the daughter of Waldo and Ada (Talbot) Bennett, and spent her childhood in the West Burlington area.

Minerva was predeceased by her husband, Harold West, in 1966, as well as her three sisters and eight brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Jeannine and Dale Palmiter of Edmeston and Priscilla and Fred Frair of Newborn, Ga.; two grandchildren, David Parker of Danielsville, Ga., and Susan Docteur of Farmington; three great-grandchildren, Marc Docteur, Kaylee Parker and Matthew Parker; and two nieces, Norma Ramsey and Phyllis Whitten.

Minerva was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin and the Episcopal Church of Women of West Burlington.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin. The Rev. Charles  Taylor will officiate.

The internment will be in Edmeston Union Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin.

Charles W. Hunt

EAST GUILFORD — Charles W. Hunt, 78, of East Guilford died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at his home.

He was born June 21, 1924 the son of the late Wilbur and Rose Murthe Hunt in Starlight, Pa.

When he retired, Charles was a machinist for Amphenol Corp. in Sidney.

He was a member of the Sidney Moose Lodge No. 277 and the American Legion Post No. 183 in Sidney.

Charles is survived by one son, Stephen C. Hunt of Bainbridge; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Sharon Hunt of Bainbridge; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Hilda and Thomas Malinski of Lake Como, Pa., and Eileen Wasko of Brant, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Hunt.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Bainbridge at 1 p.m. The Rev. Tony Hipes will officiate.

Burial will be in East Guilford Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango, County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.

Robert L. Colburn

WOODBURY, Conn. — Robert L. Colburn, 78, of Woodbury, Conn., died Tuesday, Aug. 20, after a long battle with cancer.

He was the husband of Ann (Friery) Colburn.

Mr. Colburn was born on Jan. 14, 1924, in Cooperstown, son of the late Legrand and Mildred (Smith) Colburn of Milford.

He attended Milford Central and earned a bachelor's degree from St. Lawrence University.

Mr. Colburn served in the Army during the occupation of Japan.

Besides his wife of 51 years, he leaves a son, Robert J. Colburn of Atkinson, N.H.; a daughter, Jennifer Squeglia of Marlborough, Mass.; and two sisters, Charlotte C. Gasperini of Chappaqua and Connie C. Bates of Milford.

The memorial service and burial took place on Aug. 23 in Woodbury, Conn.

Perry R. Hotaling

COOPERSTOWN — A memorial service and Masonic service for Perry R. Hotaling, who died July 30, 2002, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cooperstown with the Rev. Douglas Deer officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service of Cooperstown and Milford.
