Christine L. Gray
UNADILLA — Christine L. Gray, 86, of Unadilla passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at the Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1915, in Guilford, the daughter of John and Minnie (Burlison) Greene.
She was first married to Howard G. Lawrence. He died on April 10, 1977. In 1981, she was married to Donald B. Gray, who died in 1997.
She has been a resident of Unadilla sine 1948, and was a retired employee of Amphenol Corp., Sidney.
Mrs. Gray was a former member of the Unadilla Women's Club, the DAR and the Tri-Town Toastmasters Club.
She is survived by her daughters and a son-in-law, Suzanne and Howard Lent of Brasher Falls, and Betty Jane Hendrickson of Norwich; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Greene, and her sister, Cora Greene.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at the family residence on Martin Brook Road, Unadilla.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Unadilla Emergency Squad or the Delaware Valley Humane Society, Sidney.

Bonnie L. Hyne
AMBLER, Pa. — Bonnie L. Hyne (Finch), 47, of 933 Farm Lane, Ambler, Pa., passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 21, 2002, after losing a courageous fight with inflammatory breast cancer.
She had been employed by Aetna US Healthcare as a project manager in Philadelphia.
A beloved mother, she is survived by her son, Jolyon D. Hyne, and soul mate, Thomas J. Marron; her mother, Mary O. Finch of Sidney Center, N.Y.; her sister, Gaye and her husband, Stephen Houck, and their daughters, Tarra Barnhart, Melissa Houck and Dustin Barnhart; her brothers, Howard and wife, Theresa Finch, Kim Finch and sons, Ryan, Adam and Christian.
She was predeceased by her father, Fowler E. Finch.
A service will be held on Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, 2002, with calling hour starting at 6 p.m. and a celebration of her life at 7 p.m., located at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, in Ambler, Pa.
Graveside services will be held at Sidney Center Highland Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. with a celebration of her life following immediately afterwards at the Ponderosa, Masonville Pond.

Theresa Fischer
GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. — Theresa Alberta (Burdick) Platz Fischer of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Chenango Bridge, N.Y., and Rockdale, N.Y., died Aug. 4, 2002.
She was born on April 15, 1918, in Sidney, N.Y.
She was predeceased by her first husband, John W. Platz, who died in 1972.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest M. Fischer; daughter, Marcia (Michael) Jelus of Cincinnati; son, Michael (Deborah) Platz of Burlington, Conn.; stepsons, Ernest Jr. (Sharon) of Johnson City, N.Y., and Robert (Lil) of Lone Wolf, Okla.; stepdaughter, Margaret of Binghamton, N.Y.; brother, Richard Burdick of Bellevue, Fla.; sisters, Beverly O'Hara of Gilbertsville, N.Y., Gladys and Frances Burdick of Cobleskill, N.Y., and Lelah Hammond of Green Valley; sister-in-law, Bernadetta Burdick of Tucson; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service was held Aug. 8, 2002, in Green Valley, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at the Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Upton, N.Y.
The Rockdale Community Church is suggested as a recipient for memorial contributions.
Roger Olin
NORWICH — Graveside committal services for Roger Olin will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in Mount Hope Cemetery in Norwich, with the Rev. Francis Case, pastor of St. Theresa's Church in New Berlin, officiating.
Full military honors will be accorded by members of the local veteran's organizations.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Devine-Wilson Memorial Home, Norwich.
Christopher Gerard Petrlak
ONEONTA — Christopher Gerard Petrlak, 28, died Monday at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
Chris was born Dec. 14, 1973, in Newburgh.
He was a graduate of Gilboa Central School, the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill — where he received an associate's degree — and the State University College at Oneonta, where he received a bachelor's degree in history.
For the past 10 years, Chris has been employed with the Schoharie County Adult Rehabilitation Center, most recently as a residential manager for the High Street Home in Cobleskill.
He aspired to teach, especially grammar school age children, about nature.
Chris had a special interest in history, particularly the Civil War.
He was also an avid fisherman, enjoying the sport the most while it was raining.
Survivors include his wife of two years, Alicia (Gartung) Petrlak; his parents, Gerard and Kathleen (McKenna) Petrlak of Middleburgh; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Scott Brown of Liverpool; two brothers, Thomas Petrlak and his wife, Leslie Petrlak of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Robert Petrlak and his wife, Janet of Hollywood, Fla.; a niece, Sarah Petrlak; and his father and mother-in-law, John and Christine Gartung of East Worcester.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Washington Heights, Cobleskill, celebrant will be the Rev. Thomas F. Berardi.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
Burial will be private.

Lafayette C. Hoag
MIDDLEFIELD — Mr. Lafayette C. Hoag, 90, of Middlefield died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1911, a son of George Carvin and Ella Knapp.
He attended school in the Phoenix Mills school house.
Lafayette married Gertrude Eggleston on March 30, 1936. She predeceased him on Jan. 24, 1979.
He was first employed by the Mallory Farms on Beaver Meadow Road and then at the Phoenix Mills Saw Mill. He then was employed by Leatherstocking Corp. for 40 years as a mason, retiring in 1978.
Lafayette was an area resident his entire life.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with family and tending his gardens of flowers and veggies.
He is survived by five sons and three daughters-in-law, Lafayette Hoag Jr. of Fly Creek, Donald and Barbara Hoag of Morris, Douglas Hoag of Liberty, Robert and Leona Hoag of Maryland, and Richard and Barbara Hoag of Middlefield; a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Hoag of Bridgewater; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Charles Hoag; a grandson, James Hoag; a grandson, Michael Hoag; a stepsister, Jenny Miller; and a stepbrother, William Carvin.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating.
Burial will follow at Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance.

Tyree Allen
ONEONTA — Tyree Allen, 59, also known as Terry Thomas of Oneonta passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born Jan. 17, 1943, the son of James and Bernice (Louis) Allen, in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was never married.
Mr. Allen had been employed at MAMCO Corp. in recent years, and was previously employed at Friendly Ice Cream Corp. in Oneonta.
Mr. Allen is survived by one nephew, Thomas Perkins of Canajoharie; several cousins; and close friends, Ronald and Cindy Wood of Oneonta.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Edward Carlson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home in Oneonta.
Jean W. White
WELLSVILLE — A memorial service for Jean W. White, 82, who died on Aug. 11, 2002, in Wellsville, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002.
Jean White, was born in Gilbertsville, and resided in Maryland, until 1998, when she moved to Wellsville to live with her son, Dennis White.
The Rev. Peter Mudge, will officiate for the service to be held at 1 p.m., at the Maryland Baptist Church, Maryland. Graveside services will immediately follow at the Butternuts Cemetery in Gilbertsville.
John O. Courtney
BETHEL, Maine — John Orville Courtney, 64, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in Lewiston, Maine.
He was born in Newtown, Pa., the son of John Ackors and Mary Helms (Ward) Courtney.
He was educated in Oneonta, N.Y., schools and graduated from Broome Technical College in Binghamton, N.Y.
He had been employed as an electronics engineer most of his life.
He married Lynn Mason on Dec. 24, 1995.
John was an avid skier and loved model railroads and his dogs, Addie and Hannah.
John was recently elected to the Alder River Grange in East Bethel, Maine.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Mason-Courtney of Bethel, Maine; two sons, John Louis Courtney of Oneonta, N.Y., and Vito Frank Courtney of Portland, Maine; one stepson, Jay L. Boschetti of Andover, Maine; one daughter, Sue Ann Courtney of Albany, N.Y.; one brother, Charles J. Kennedy Jr. of Wilmington, Del.; one sister, Polly Courtney Olmsted of Ashburn, Va.; and two grandchildren, John Douglas Courtney of Oneonta, N.Y., and Emma Goldberg-Courtney of Portland, Maine.
John was predeceased by his first wife of 32 years, Pasqua Bagnardi of Oneonta, N.Y., on Aug. 22, 1990; and two sisters, Charlotte Murphy and Jeanne Bedia.

MIDDLEFIELD — Mr. Lafayette C. Hoag, 90, of Middlefield died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at his home.

Thurston R. Bryden
MOUNT UPTON — Thurston Robert Bryden, 75, of state Highway 8, Mount Upton, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, 2002, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 28, 1927, in Sidney, the son of the late Robert and Marion Whitney Bryden.
He married Kathleen Robinson, who survives.
Bob was a truck driver in the local area for several years, and he retired from the Keith Clark Co. 13 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Bryden of Mount Upton; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lisa Bryden of Bridgeville, Del., and Lee Bryden of Auburn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Albert Pope Jr. of Mount Upton, and Susan and Thomas Jetty of Auburn; six grandchildren, Tammy, Brian, Jessica, Sarah, Justin and Michael; great-granddaughter, Kayleigh; and brother, William Hitt of Sidney.
At Mr. Bryden's request, there will be no formal funeral service. Burial will be private in the Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton.

William Claudy Sr.
ONEONTA — William "Bill" Claudy Sr., who was born Oct. 7, 1931, died peacefully in his home Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, 2002.
He was a loving father to Bill and Trudy Claudy and Joan and Larry Berger; and grandfather to Andrea, Patrick and Victoria Claudy, as well as Katelyn Eric and Jake Berger.
He will be missed by his family and his cat, Paddy.
He will be best remembered for his strength and kindness toward his family, especially his grandchildren.
