Eleanor M. Pestar
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Eleanor M. Pestar, 82, of Division Street, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1920, in Jordanville, the daughter of the late Frederick and Hattie Irish Barrett.
A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, she was educated in Jordanville schools.
On Sept. 11, 1950, she married William A. Pestar in Richfield Springs, a union of 32 years, until his passing in 1982.
For a short time, she worked for the Beechnut Co. in Canajoharie and the Richfield Springs CB Club.
She is survived by one son, William, and his wife, Hyang, Pestar of Ilion; three daughters, Frances and her husband, Richard, Harrison, Pauline and her husband, David, Lynch, and Bonnie Melnichenko of Richfield Springs; a brother, Robert and his wife, Betty, Barrett of West Winfield; a sister, Shirley Potts of Richfield Springs; 20 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins and her favorite cousin, Margaret Reynolds.
Besides her parents and her husband, William, she was predeceased by a son, Edward Pestar, in 1972; a daughter, Marion Wier, in 1992; a brother, Harold Barrett; and two sisters, Betty and Marjorie Eckler.
A memorial service will be held on Monday evening at 7 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 5 until 7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Tribute Fund of Bassett Healthcare or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Elizabeth Jennings
HICKORY, N.C. — Elizabeth Frances Patrick Jennings, 77, of Hickory, N.C., passed away Oct. 9, 2002, at the Frye Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Edmeston, N.Y., the daughter of Stanley and Mae Swayer Patrick.
She was employed as an organist. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church; church organist for nine years; and a member of American Legion, Edmeston Post.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Jennings, and her parents, Stanley and Mae Swayer Patrick.
She is survived by two daughters, Mickey and husband, Bill Ray, of Newton, N.C., and Linda and husband, David Bloom, of Hickory, N.C.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held one hour before services at New Life Baptist Church, Conover, N.C., from 3 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2002.
Services are held Friday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church, Conover, N.C., with the Rev. Steve Clark officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Hickory, N.C.

Robert W. Klehr
MILFORD — Robert W. Klehr, 68, of Milford, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
He was born Nov. 22, 1933, in Flushing, N.Y., the son of William F. and Irene (Jeffrey) Klehr.
He married Mary Ann DeRoche on June 24, 1964, in Worcester, N.Y.
He retired from The Meadows in 1995 and previously worked at Milford Central School and Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; two daughters, Kathleen Morell and Karen Clark; two sons, Thomas and Theodore; one sister, Virginia McAuley; his brother, John; and his grandchildren Alexandra Morell, and Cornar and Hope Clark.
He enjoyed his dog, Jake, country music, classic movies and his John Deere.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
Jackie L. Parrish
SCHENEVUS — Jackie Lance Parrish, 28, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, from injuries sustained in a logging accident.
He was born Feb. 19, 1974, in Florence, Ala.
He is survived by his mother, Jennie (Simpson) Koppman; father, Donnie HughNathon Parrish; sister, Alice Ruth "Ruthie" (Cook) Keys; four brothers, Dennis Lee "Buddy" Koppman and his wife, Shirley, Donnie James "Jamie" Parrish, James Walter "Totch" Parrish and William Aubrey "Billy" Cook; his fiancee, Diane Race, and her children, Robin and Danny Race, Robert, Dawn and Eva Whiteman; four nieces; a nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins; also in his life were, Rex and Lola Curran and Katie; Randall and Laurel Curran and family and Shannon Moseman.
He was predeceased by Aunt Bea, Uncle Fuzzy and Grandmother, Mae Wood.
Jackie dearly loved his fiancee, Diane, and he will be forever missed.
Jackie lived in Schenevus and Worcester most of his life and currently resided on Norton Road.
He was a full-time student at the State University Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill, where he was studying wildlife and fishery.
Jackie was an avid outdoors man and was a great fisherman, known as "Walleye Jack." He loved playing pool and drinking.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, and 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.
A celebration of Jackie's life by his friends and family will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the funeral home. All are asked and welcome to participate.

Frederick M. West
OTEGO — Frederick M. West, 85, of Otego, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at his home.
He was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Laurens, the son of the late William and Mary (Marble) West.
Frederick is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Ellie West of Otego; and two nieces.
He was predeceased by his wife, Madaline Emma Davis in April 1996; and a brother and two sisters, Benjamin West, Beulah West and Maude West.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Mount Vision Cemetery, Mount Vision, with Allison Bookhout, a chaplain of the Catskill Area Hospice, Oneonta, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta NY 13820.
The family extends its thanks to Laverne and Paula Morrell, Mary Balantic and Meg Corning for their kind and caring service to Mr. Frederick West.

Harry Daugherty
SIDNEY — Harry P. Daugherty, 92, of 18 James St., Sidney, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Oct. 12, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.
He was born Oct. 8, 1910, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of the late James and Susan Perry Daugherty.
On April 6, 1942, he married Gertrude Dermody in Deposit. She predeceased him on April 23, 1989.
Mr. Daugherty was a veteran with the U.S. Army serving his country during World War II.
For several years he was a machinist for the Amphenol Corp., Sidney. He retired in 1974.
He was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Church, Sidney. Harry was also a member of the Charles L. Jacobi Post 183 American Legion, Sidney, and the I.A.M.&A.W. Local 1529, Sidney.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Patricia Daugherty, North Greenbush, and Robert and Nancy Daugherty, Chatham, N.J.; five grandchildren, Ryan, Kelly, Erin, Connor and Katie Daugherty; and his friend and companion, Pauline Webb, Sidney. Several nieces, nephews and cousins are also surviving.
His five brothers and sisters predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, from the Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with his family in attendance.

Esther V. White
MOUNT UPTON — Esther V. White, 76, of 115 Railroad St., Mount Upton, passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.
She was born March 20, 1926, in Mount Upton, the daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel Christian VanNamee.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Leon Ruling Jr., Sidney, Cindy White, Mount Upton, and Kay and Michael Costello, Mount Upton; her six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her son, Dennis White in 1988; and two brothers, Everett and Lester VanNamee; and her sister, Eloise Hills.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Mary Ann Linder, pastor of the Mount Upton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton.
At the request of her family there will be no calling hours.

Elaine C. Brockway
WEST ONEONTA — Elaine C. Brockway, 83, of West Oneonta, passed away early Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2002, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born in Little Falls, on Oct. 4, 1919, the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Rose) Chapadeau.
She married Jesse E. Brockway on Aug. 9, 1942, in Schuyler Lake. They had been married for 50 years.
She had been employed by the Bresee's Department Store of Oneonta as a store clerk and department manager and buyer for over 33 years.
She was a member of the West Oneonta Baptist Church; the West Laurens Community Church; the West Laurens Grange; and the West Laurens Home Makers and the Golden Ages of Laurens.
Her husband, Jesse, of West Oneonta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Louis and Charlotte Brockway of Belen, N.M., and Richard and Patricia Brockway of West Oneonta, survives Elaine. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Kimberly Sparaco and husband, Gordon of West Oneonta, Richard J. Brockway of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Randy Brockway of West Oneonta; as well as three great-grandchildren, Derek, Nicole and Justin Sparaco of West Oneonta. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Orcutt of Leomeister, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Louis Chapadeau.
Elaine was the anchor of her family and loved by all.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at the West Oneonta Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Thurber, the Rev. Roger Yoder and the Rev. John Dougherty, all officiating.
Committal services and burial will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in West Laurens.

Anna E. Brezee
ONEONTA — Anna E. Brezee, 96 years, of Oneonta, died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, Thursday evening, Oct. 10, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born on Sept. 10, 1906, in Middlefield, the daughter of Charlie and Helen Amanda (VanDeBoe) Darling.
Anna worked at the Oneonta Dress Company as a floor supervisor for 15 years retiring in 1972.
She was a 57 year member of the First Baptist Church, Oneonta, as well as a member of the Lang-Barea Class; a member of the Royal Rebekah Lodge, Oneonta for 50 years where she was the Past Assembly State Officer of New York State. A member of the Anna E. Wilber Auxiliary of the Oneonta Lodge; Past Noble Grand Association of Otsego County and Past District Deputy President.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Frances and Bruce Stevens of Fort Myers, Fla.; her grandchildren and their families: Jean Ann Hodges (predeceased) and her children, Harry Hodges and R. David Hodges, and his two sons, Ryan and Robert Hodges of Georgia, and great-grandson, Robert Hodges (predeceased), Susan and Allen Gregory and their two daughters, Heather Gregory and husband-to-be, James Thomas and Erin and her son, Christopher of Sidney, David and Christine Clark and their two daughters, Carey Clark and Lisa and Shawn Langton and their son, David Riley Langton of Mohnton, Pa., and Jonathan and Barbara Clark and their two daughters, Stephanie and Stacie Clark of Otego; three sisters, Norine Leonard (predeceased), Ella Mae Darling (predeceased) and Pauline Carpenter (predeceased); four brothers, Carlton Darling (predeceased) and Clayton Darling of Middlefield, Henry Darling (predeceased) and Elmer Darling (predeceased); several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. William Lang, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be at the Middlefield Cemetery, Middlefield, at 2 p.m.
Calling hours will be offered on Monday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time at which time the family will be in attendance.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760, in loving memory of Anna E. Brezee.

Jack T. Calcaterra
WILMINGTON, Del. — Jack T. Calcaterra, 84, of Wilmington, Del., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at home.
Mr. Calcaterra was a retired chef, and he had been a sergeant in the Army in World War II. He was a member of the VFW of Murrels Inlet, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty W. Calcaterra, who died on Aug. 6, 1997; his parents, Giovanni "John" and Vinunzina "Jennie" Calcaterra; his sister, Anita Schaffer; his grandson, Michael Murray; and his great-granddaughter, Ashley R. Workman.
He is survived by his sons, Jack T. Calcaterra and his wife, Judy, with whom he lived, Ted Estle and his wife, Sylvia, of Leesville, La., Tom Hudson and his wife, Judy, of Oakland, Md.; his daughters, Barbara Hart of Wilmington, Marianne Thomas and her husband, Dave, of Berwyn, Pa., Susan Jones and her husband, Chuck, of New Carney, Texas, and Lynn Campisi and her husband, Phil, of Poughquag, N.Y.; his brother, Frank Calcaterra, Stamford, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, friends may call after 7 p.m., at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, Del.
Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Shickshinny, Pa., at noon on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002.
