Douglas Wilson
NASSAU - Private services will be held for Douglas J. Wilson, 69, of Mountain View Road, who died Wednesday at home after a short illness.
Born in Niagara Falls, Mr. Wilson had been a longtime Capital Region resident.

He was a graphic designer with Mueller Jadtz in Menands for more than 25 years, retiring in 1990.

Mr. Wilson was the widower of Virginia Huff Wilson.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca L. Wilson of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association of Northeastern New York, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

Arrangements are by the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, Rensselaer.

Emma `Butzel' Morsheimer
BEDFORD, N.H. - Mrs. Emma Elsa "Butzel" Morsheimer of Carlyle Place, 80, died Wednesday at Elliott Hospital in Manchester, N.H. after a short illness.
Born in Gloversville, Mrs. Morsheimer was a graduate of Gloversville High School.

She was the principal fabric glove designer at the Grandoe Corp., a company founded by her grandfather, Solomon Schrecker. Mrs. Morsheimer retired in the mid 1960s.

She was a volunteer at the Getman Memorial House and the Nathan Littauer Hospital.

Her husband, L. Joseph Morsheimer, whom she married March 4, 1944, died in July, 2000.

Survivors include a son, Frederick Thomas Morsheimer of Gloversville; two sisters, Marlene Fay Pechtel and Claudette Gay Schrecker, both of Caroga Lake; and two granddaughters.

A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville.

Calling hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Contributions may be made to the David and Helen Getman Memorial Home, 15 E. State St., Gloversville; or the Alzheimers Association, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY 12206-2083.

Helena M. English
TROY - Mrs. Helena M. English, 89, of Third Avenue, died Tuesday at Samaritan Hospital while under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Mrs. English was born in Canton, St. Lawrence County.

She was a graduate of Canton High School and a 1931 magna cum laude graduate of St. Lawrence University. She earned a teaching certificate at the State Teachers' College in Albany and earned a B.L.S. from Syracuse University in 1938. She also attended New York University.

Mrs. English was a teacher-librarian at the DeKalb Junction School in St. Lawrence County; Red Creek High School in Oswego County; and the Brooklyn Public Library.

She volunteered at Torrington Hospital in Goshen, Conn., during World War II.

Mrs. English taught part-time at Lansingburgh High School in 1948.

She became senior research librarian in the State Department of Motor Vehicles in 1965, retiring in 1971.

Mrs. English was a founding trustee of the Rensselaer County Council of the Arts, now the Arts Center of the Capital Region. She was a life member and one-time president of the Lansingburgh PTA. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a member of the English Speaking Union; the Friends of Troy Public Library; the Lansingburgh Historical Society; the League of Women Voters; the Melville Society; the Rensselaer County Historical Society; and Troy Chromatic Concerts.

She founded and edited the Oriel, a literary and art periodical of the Albany Unitarian-Universalists. She supported the National Wildlife Federation; World Wildlife Fund; Environmental Defense Fund; CARE; Oxfam America; Southern Poverty Law Center; and Amnesty International.

Mrs. English was a member of the First Unitarian-Universalist Society of Albany.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, John A. English; two brothers, Rudolf Meng of Mount Vernon and Henry Meng of Chevy Chase, Md.; three sons, Benson M. English of Albany, Reed M. English of West Sand Lake and Jeffrey D. English of Troy; a grandchild; and five step-grandchildren.

An anatomical gift has been made to Albany Medical College.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the First Unitarian-Universalist Society of Albany, 405  Washington Ave. A monument will be placed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to St. Lawrence University or to the First Unitarian-Universalist Society of Albany.

Arrangements are by the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.

James J. Lichorat
GROSSE ILE, Mich. - James J. Lichorat, 51, of Church Road, died Tuesday at home after being stricken.
Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Lichorat was a graduate of Amsterdam schools.

He received bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, specializing in polymer chemistry, from Clarkson University in Potsdam.

Mr. Lichorat was the research director for the Diversey Lever Co. in Plymouth, Mich.

He was active in the Southeast Michigan Raptor Association.

Survivors include his companion, Rosemary Brady; his father, James Lichorat of Westfield, N.Y.; and a brother, Robert Lichorat of Westfield.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southeast Michigan Raptor Research Association, P.O. Box 120, Brownstown, MI 48173; or the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

John Shandro
SHELTON, Conn. - John Shandro, 78, of 21 Sharon Drive, formerly of Gloversville, died Thursday at West Haven (Conn.) Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mr. Shandro was born in Gloversville and had been a resident of Shelton for more than 40 years.

He worked for Sikorsky Aircraft for 24 years, retiring in 1985.

Mr. Shandro was an Army veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2077.

He was the widower of Lydia H. Mills Shandro.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Wilcox of Shelton, with whom he resided; two sons, John D. Shandro Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Richard J. Shandro of West Haven, Conn.; a brother, Ellery Shandro of Blue Island, Ill.; a sister, Betty Fitzgibbons of Rotterdam Junction; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 4 this afternoon to 7 tonight at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton.

Burial, with full military honors, will be in Benson Center Cemetery in Benson, Hamilton County.

Local calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville.

Mary Orleanski
AMSTERDAM - Mrs. Mary Szelwach Orleanski, 81, of Smith Road, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken at home.
Mrs. Orleanski was born in Jersey City, N.J., and had been a resident of Amsterdam since 1952.

She was a seamstress at the former Chalmers Manufacturing Co., later Montco Manufacturing, for many years.

Mrs. Orleanski was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Broadalbin.

Her husband, Michael C. Orleanski Sr., whom she married July 5, 1952, died in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Michael C. Orleanski of Amsterdam; a daughter, Marion Orleanski of Amsterdam; a sister, Blanche Opetosky of Montoursville, Pa.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin, and at 10 at St. Joseph's Church, where a Mass of Christian will be celebrated.

Calling hours are from 5 this afternoon to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Box 23, Broadalbin, NY 12025.

Paul Christensen
LANSINGBURGH - Paul Henry Christensen, 79, of Seventh Avenue, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a short illness.
Born in Troy, Mr. Christensen was educated in Lansingburgh schools.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Christensen worked for the New York state Thruway Authority for 16 years, retiring in 1987 as a store room clerk. Previously, he worked in the shipping department of the Watervliet Arsenal for 15 years. He was a machinist for the Ludlow Valve, Ross Valve and the Rensselaer Vale companies prior to that time.

Mr. Christensen was a member of the Danish Brotherhood in Troy.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Samia Christensen; a son, Daniel P. Christensen of Lansingburgh; a daughter, May Beth Thompson of Lansingburgh; four sisters, Gertrude Marble of Lansingburgh, Betty Smith of Oregon, Barbara Beecroft of Schaghticoke and Beverly Qua of Salem; and five grandchildren.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, 115th Street and Fourth Avenue.

Calling hours will be from 4 this afternoon until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.

Raymond F. Barker
SCHENECTADY - Raymond F. Barker, 77, of Phoenix Avenue, died Wednesday at St. Clare's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. Barker was a lifelong resident.

He was a 1942 graduate of the former Nott Terrace High School and was a Siena College graduate.

Mr. Barker was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Barker was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Yager Barker, whom he married Oct. 25, 1947; a son, Douglas Barker of Casper, Wyoming; a daughter, Lydia Barker of Schenectady; and two grandchildren.

There are no services scheduled.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to St. Clare's Hospital; Zion Lutheran Church; or the Pet Connection in care of WTEN.

Arrangements are by the Griswold Funeral Home.

Scott L. Gould
DELANSON - Scott L. Gould, 43, of Church Road, died Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital as a result of cancer.
Mr. Gould was born in Watertown and been a resident of Delanson for the past 10 years.

He served in the Army from 1976 to 1979.

Mr. Gould was a computer network engineer with Inter Media Communication of Albany.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Deanna L. Gould; two daughters, Julie McCarthy of Phoenix and Cathy Meyers of Delanson; a son, Richard Gould of Watertown; his mother, Eleanor Gould of Watertown; his father and stepmother, Kenneth and Gene Gould, both of Watertown; two brothers, Kenneth Gould of Webster and Bryan Gould of Brockport; a sister, Crystal Mesick of Erie, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.

Calling hours are from 1 p.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

Verna `Auntie' Chagnon
LATHAM - Mrs. Verna P. "Auntie" Chagnon, 85, of Old Niskayuna Road, died Wednesday at Albany Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Chagnon was educated in the Colonie School District and lived in Colonie for more than 50 years.

She operated a truck farm with her husband on Old Niskayuna Road until 1996.

Mrs. Chagnon was a member of the Newtonville United Methodist Church.

She was the widow of Rudolph B. Chagnon.

Survivors include a brother, Burton Primett of Clifton Park.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bowen Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road.

Calling hours will be from 4 this afternoon until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity.

William Kraus Sr.
RENSSELAER - William A. Kraus Sr., 70, of 4th Avenue, died Thursday at Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital in Albany after a long illness.
Born in New York City, Mr. Kraus had been a longtime New York City area resident before moving to the Capital District.

He worked in construction in New York City for many years.

Mr. Kraus was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He was active in the adult day program at Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital and was a member of the U.S.S. Tripoli Association CVE-64.

Mr. Kraus was the widower of Rose Dara Kraus.

Survivors include a son, William Kraus of East Greenbush; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 50 Herrick St.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk.

Contributions may be made to the Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital's adult day program, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.
