Rev. Gerald Clune

ONEONTA — The family of the Rev. Gerald F. Clune has requested contributions in his memory to be made to the Association of the Blind, 55  Washington St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13901, or to St. Mary's Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Howard R. Fitch

CAPEVILLE, Va. — Howard R. Fitch, 74, of Capeville, Va., passed peacefully, Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, Va.

He was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Delhi. He was the son of the late Frank A. and Georgianna Hafele Fitch.

He was married in 1953 to Hazel Storck, who survives him at home in Capeville.

Mr. Fitch was a resident of the Delhi and Unadilla areas most of his life. The last 15 years he had been a resident of Capeville.

He retired from Amphenol in Sidney in 1985, after 35 years of service. He served as a police officer for the village of Sidney and was also a town constable for the town of Unadilla.

Mr. Fitch was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Capeville Masonic Lodge No. 107, Eastern Star, Fraternal Order of Police, and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Along with his wife, is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Y. Ryan and her husband, Graden, of Unadilla; a son, Richard F. Fitch and his wife, Susan, of Sidney; four grandchildren, Graydon Ryan of Winston-Salem, N.C., Eric Ryan of Norwich, Rebecca Ryan of Unadilla, and Jonathan Fitch of Sidney; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Woodland Cemetery in Delhi.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at C.H. Landers Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Annual Fund Donor Services Center, P.O. Box 4594, New York, N.Y. 10163-4594.

Margaret Streeter

GRAND GORGE — Margaret C. Streeter, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at the Golden Hill Health Facility in Kingston.

She is survived by her son-in-law and daughter, John and Gail "Hilsenbeck" Many, and three grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at St. Philips Neri Roman Catholic Church in Grand Gorge, with the Rev. Robert H. Purcell.

Calling hours will be at the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Grand Gorge.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home of Roxbury.

Mary Butler Flyzik

BAINBRIDGE — Mary Butler Flyzik, 77, of 127 Bliss Road, Bainbridge, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.

She was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Bainbridge, the daughter of the late Claude and Virginia Arakelian Butler.

On July 9, 1949, she married Michael J. Flyzik in Bainbridge.

Mary was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Bainbridge, and numerous organizations within her church.

She was a lifetime member of the Sigma Alpha Iota professional music fraternity. For many years, Mary was active with the Bainbridge Community Chest, Girl Scouts of American and other community organizations.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandma to her family. Her entire life revolved around her family.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Michael J. Flyzik, Bainbridge; son, Peter C. Flyzik, Kissimmee, Fla.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and James Black of Guilford, Cecilia C. Flyzik and Susan K. Foreman of Vernon, Cynthia and Mark Barwise of Orange, Conn., and Loraine and Robert Butcher of Sidney; brother and sister-in-law, C. William and Eleanor Butler of Bainbridge; six grandchildren, Kimberly L. Barwise, Jarrett H. Black, Michael T. Butcher, Allison R. Barwise, Samantha K. Butcher and Tyler G. Barwise; cousin, Ruth P. Kelley, Hyannis, Mass.; uncle, George Arakelian, California; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, from St. John's Church in Bainbridge, with the Rev. Fr. Donald Bourgeois, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Friends are invited to call today at the C.H. Landers Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Sidney. Her family will be in attendance from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad or to St. John's Church, Bainbridge.

Joseph G. Hren

DECATUR — Joseph (Joe) G. Hren, 81, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at his home.

He was born Feb. 19, 1921, at home in Decatur, the son of Leo and Antoinette (Skerl) Hren.

Joe was a lifelong dairy farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, the National Rifle Association, the Farm Bureau and the Dairy Farmer of America.

He enjoyed bowling, baseball and target shooting.

Survivors include three brothers and a sister, Anthony and wife, Anne, Hren of Decatur, John Hren of Oneonta, Elsie and husband, Peter, Conte Sr. of Worcester, and Henry and wife, Jean, Hren of Decatur; cousins, Ann Verity, and John and wife, Edye, Hren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Leo Hren; and a sister, Marie Fedor.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church, Main Street, Worcester; Worcester Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 191, Worcester, N.Y. 12197 or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Marie Z. McKenna

GILBERTSVILLE — Marie Z. McKenna, 94, of Gilbertsville, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin.

She was born April 14, 1908, in Hoboken, N.J., the daughter of Francis and Mary (Hayes) Zeller.

She was married to Stephen P. McKenna in 1932, in the St. Michael's Monastery in Union City, N.J. Stephen died in October of 1973.

She was employed by Bristol-Meyers for many years and more recently was employed by Norwich Furniture Inc., retiring in 1973.

She had formerly resided in Ridgefield, N.J., in her younger years.

A daughter, Patricia Stensland and her husband, Mike, of Gilbertsville; five grandchildren, Linda Holt, Diane Stensland, Michele Birdsall, Michael Stensland and Stephen D. McKenna, survive her. She was also blessed by nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Stephen McKenna.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 28, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Morris, with the Rev. John Burns officiating.

Committal service and burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Norris A. Finch

DAVENPORT — Norris A. Finch, 59, of Davenport passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Utica.

He was born June 2, 1943, in Oneonta, the son of Enos B. and Mildred (Ingraham) Finch.

He married Pauline Dixson on Oct. 22, 1965, in Oneonta.

A lifelong area resident, he was employed by Kenyon Farms in Kortright, for the past 12 years.

He enjoyed animals, hunting and riding four wheelers. Norris especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and other family members.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Pauline, of Davenport; his children and their spouses, a son, Henry Finch and his wife, Cathy of Smyrna; his daughter, Tonya (Finch) Jeffers and her husband, Michael of West Davenport, a daughter, Tamuli Finch of Colliersville.

He is also survived by three brothers, Jack Finch and his family of Florida, Barney Finch and his family of Oneonta, Bill Finch and his family of Oneonta. Also, two sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Verlina)  Jackson and family of Wallkill, and Mrs. Harry (Rosetta) Swift and family of Esperance.

His loving grandchildren, Connie, Jennifer, Beau, Salina and Alicia, also, Mikie Jr., Kassie, Aaron Norris, and Derek Jeffers. Also, nine great-grandchildren.

An infant son, Alford Enos Finch predeceased him in 1966. Also, four brothers predeceased him, Otis Finch, Robert Finch, Orion Finch and Cecil Finch. Also, a sister, Marion Spears.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Don Yarborough and George Novellano of the Community Gospel Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at which time the family will be present.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Jessie M. Jennings

OXFORD — Jessie Mabel Jennings, 98, longtime resident of Sidney Center and Walton, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford.

She was born in Downsville on July 28, 1904, the daughter of Charles and Estella (Northrop) Hood.

She was married in 1933 to Howard James Jennings. He predeceased her in 1991. She was also predeceased by a son, Ronald D. Jennings, in 2001.

Jessie was a housewife and a child-care giver. Her hobbies included bingo, watching stock car racing and taking photos of her family. In later years she enjoyed reading to and playing with her great-grandchildren.

Jessie had a great love of family and friends.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Phyllis Jennings of Unadilla; and daughter-in-law, Sue Jennings of Walton. She is also survived by five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, Jim and Krista Jennings, and their children, Mike and Butterfly of North Carolina, Michael and Bonnie Jennings, and their children, Shayna, Shelby and Christa, of Walton, Sandy and Derry Sramek, and their children, Dusty, Brad and Tamara of Unadilla, Michelle and Pat Pattison and their children, Colin, Katrina, Emily and Shawn of Downsville, and Tom Jennings and his children, Tyler and Shelby of Unadilla.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Gregorytown Cemetery in Downsville.

Donations may be made in Jessie's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.

Arrangements were made by Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc., Walton.

David A. Condon

TREADWELL — David A. Condon, 66, of Treadwell died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Margaretville, the son of David C. and Mabel (Davis) Condon.

He married Patricia Burns on Nov. 3, 1957.

Graduated from Andes Central School in 1954, he had been active in sports: baseball and basketball and the Andes Town Team. He kept an interest in sports all his life, especially the Giants Football Team.

Many of his other interests were round and square dancing, Pinochle Club, reading and listening to county music.

When he was younger, David worked at Gerry's Horse Farm, the Andes Creamery, Frasier's Creamery and the dairy farm at Delhi College. He was a farmer for most of his life, retiring in September 2001.

He enjoyed showing Ayrshire Cattle at the Delaware County and New York State Fairs.

He was a member of the Treadwell United Methodist Church, the Butternut Valley Grange No. 1533 and the Eastern Milk Producers, which is now known as Dairy Farmers of America.

Surviving are his wife, Pat; two sons, David E. and Marcia Condon of East Meredith, and Michael Condon of Delhi; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Condon of Mount Vision; a special daughter, Susan Ray of East Meredith; nine grandchildren, David M., Valerie and Matthew of East Meredith, Melissa Ambrose (David) of Treadwell, Rachel, Dawn, Amy and Jonathon of Delhi, and Sarah of East Meredith; two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Kila; one aunt, Dorothy Davis; three brothers, James Condon of Fort Plain, Douglas and Barbara Condon of New Kingston, and Richard and Marilyn Condon, Unadilla; and one sister, Virginia and Stanley Dibble of Hamden.

A son, Timothy; a brother; Kenneth; and a sister, Julia Fradenburg, predeceased him.

Memorial services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at the Treadwell United Methodist Church, Treadwell, with the Rev. Lyle Linder and the Rev. Elliott Oakes officiating.

Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Treadwell United Methodist Church or American Heart Association.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Elsie Davis

SIDNEY — Elsie Loreen Mares Davis passed away on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at the Skilled Nursing Facility in The Hospital in Sidney, at the age of 94.

Born on Sept. 14, 1908, in Pawnee City, Neb., she graduated from high school at the age of 15 and from Nebraska State Teachers' College at Peru, Neb., at the age of 18. She received her master's degree from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and took post-master's degree work at Hofstra College, Hempstead, and New York University, New York City.

She taught business subjects at Shenley High School in Pittsburgh, Pa., as well as Hunter College, New York City and Hofstra, College, Hempstead.

She served for many years as chairman of the Business Department at Great Neck South Senior High School, Great Neck. Additionally, she was a professional artist and exhibited in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Benjamin F. Davis, a principal in the New York City Public Schools and adjunct professor at Hofstra College and Rhode Island University.

She is survived by her two children, the Rev. Maryellen D. Muller of Atkinson, N.H., and Bonnie D. Lown of Sidney; four grandchildren, Mrs. Maria Lynn Brush Spetalnik of Chantilly, Va., Major Paul Lawrence Muller of Kailua, Hawaii, Mrs. Lynn Ellen Muller Wong of Salem, N.H., and Mr. David Alan Brush of Sidney and Potsdam; as well as two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Spetalnik and Matthew Wong.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service in celebration of the life of Elsie Davis will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 139 West Main St., Sidney, on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Luke's Building Fund or Rainbow Day Care.

Arrangements are by the C.H. Landers Funeral Home, Sidney.

Karolina Felber

STAMFORD — Karolina "Lina" Felber, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her sister, Hermine and Rolla Irwin, in Harpursville, where she had lived for the past 21/2 years.

Born in Munich, Germany, on Aug. 25, 1922, she resided in Stamford, for 50 years.

Her devoted husband of 48 years, Karl Felber, predeceased her in 1999.

In addition to her sister, Hermine; she is survived by a brother, Ferdinand Schmid and family of Munich, Germany; her nieces and their families, Joanna Guntert of Davenport, Cynthia Brannigan, and Rosetta Irwin of Harpursville, Linda Chirikos of Wheaton, Ill.; a nephew and his family, John Irwin of Castle Creek; a son, Fritz Felber and wife, Katie of Kentucky; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons; many nieces and nephews in Germany; and many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.

Because of her love of animals, her family requests that donations be sent in Lina's memory to the Delaware County Animal Shelter in Delhi.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Bertha Gibbs

ROXBURY — Bertha "Enderlin" Gibbs, 91, of Roxbury passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

She was born June 29, 1911, in Windfield, Long Island, the daughter of Adolph Geiger and Bertha  Schmidt.

Her first marriage was to F. Leighton Enderlin on Aug. 29, 1934, in Roxbury. He passed away Aug. 6, 1969. Her second marriage was to Howard P. Gibbs on Aug. 31, 1980, in Roxbury. He passed away July 20, 1999.

Bertha had been a resident of Roxbury since 1934.

She was a member of the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church in Roxbury, and had been very active in church work.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Welch and Joan Montgomery; one son, Stephen F. Enderlin; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Emily McKee.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Jean "Cafiero" Heiseler, she passed away Feb. 21, 1989.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church in Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in the Roxbury Cemetery in Roxbury.

Calling hours will be held from noon until 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Contributions in memory of Bertha Gibbs may be made to the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church Memorial Fund in Roxbury.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.
