Evelyn M. Graepel

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Evelyn M. Graepel, 93, of Dugan Road passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1909, in Ridgewood, Queens, a daughter of the late Henry and Marie (Meyer) Fisher.

She was raised and educated in Queens, and had worked as a beautician until her marriage to Charles Graepel on July 4, 1931. They shared a devoted union of 60 years until his passing on May 31, 1991. She and her husband had resided in Richfield Springs since 1989, coming from Queens.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth A. Graepel and his wife, Maryann of Richfield Springs, Roy C. Graepel and his wife, Carol of Lake Ronkonkoma, Robert B. Graepel of Richfield Springs; one sister, Edith Graepel of Syosset; five grandchildren, Wendy Gacci, Edward Graepel, Dawn Hunter, Robert Graepel Jr., Heather Teachout; five great-grandchildren; and one niece.

The funeral service will be on Thursday morning in Moloney's Lake Funeral Home, Lake Ronkonkoma. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens. Calling hours will be on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Emergency Rescue Squad.

Arrangements are through J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Mamie L. Berger

UNADILLA — Mamie L. Berger, 98, of Unadilla passed away on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at the Oneonta Nursing Home in Oneonta.

She was born on Dec. 3, 1903, in Newburgh, the daughter of Isacc and Nellie (Moffatt) Berger.

She had been a resident of Unadilla for 50 years and was a former secretary for a New York City firm.

Mamie is survived by a sister-in-law, Velma Berger of Rochester; her nieces, Norma Gardiner, Barbara Stevens and Carol Weed.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Charlotte Berger and Mildred Sachs; and a brother, Gordon Berger.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Unadilla, with the Rev. Gordon A. Polenz, pastor of the Sacred Heart Church of Sidney, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home in Unadilla.

Sabina G. Pecoraro

MASONVILLE — Sabina G. Pecoraro, 76, of Masonville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.

She was born Oct. 28, 1925, daughter of the late Felix and Antoinette Grande Volpe in New York City.

Sabina was an executive secretary for many years; International Paper in Manhattan last employed her.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Bainbridge.

Sabina married Domenic Pecoraro on March 15, 1952, in New York City. He survives and resides in Masonville. She is also survived by daughter and son-in-law, Felicia and Joseph Fasciglione, Wellington, Fla.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Valerie, Kathryn and Christopher; sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette and Emmanuel Sbano, Dobbs Ferry; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Two brothers, Frank and Eddie; and two sisters, Helen and Gloria predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at St. John's Catholic Church in Bainbridge, with the Rev. Fr. Donald Bourgeois officiating.

Friends may call Thursday, Oct. 31, and Friday, Nov. 1, when the family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Burial will be in Masonville Cemetery in Masonville.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Clifford J. Amell

OXFORD — Clifford J. Amell, 84, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

He was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Greene.

He was born in Riverview, to John and Eveline Amell.

He served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.

He was superintendent of Light and Power for 17 years in Richmondville, and for 14 years in Greene.

He was a member of the Lions Club for 32 years and received Lion of the Year in 1988.

He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.

He will always be remembered for the love and generosity he shared with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Amell, Greene; his children, Catherine and James Heiser, Middleburgh, Susan and Richard Davis, Grapevine,  Texas, Steven and Nancy Amell, Greene, Fred and Nancy Amell, Spencerport, Jim and Barbara Amell, Greene; grandchildren, George Byrnes, Tim Davis, John Heiser, Eric Amell, Jennifer Davis, Michael Davis, Jason Amell, Jeffrey Amell, Brian Amell, Scott Heiser, Becky Amell, Donald Amell and Julia Amell; great-granddaughters, Hannah and Skyler Heiser; his mother-in-law, Catherine Gorrow, Greene; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bea Hamel, Plattsburgh, Irene and Russ Newell, Syracuse, Lillian Burman, Saranac Lake, Arthur and Juanita Gorrow, Beverly Hills, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, David, in 1992.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Greene. Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at the Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the NYS Veterans Home, Attention Guild, 4211 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 13830.

Angelina Garti

DELHI — Angelina Garti, 89, of Delhi died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born April 13, 1913, in Tuxedo, the daughter of Giuseppe and Angela (Scolaro) Bollato.

She married Frank Garti on Nov. 9, 1941, in Tuxedo. He predeceased her Dec. 14, 1975.

Mrs. Garti was a clerk at the Motor Vehicle Department and served on the Board of Elections for the past 40 years.

She was a member and trustee of St. Peter's Church, Delhi, and also served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharist Minister.

She also enjoyed membership in the Delhi Social Club and Delhi Senior Citizens and assisted with the Dispatch from the Office of the Aging and the Oneonta Soup Kitchen.

Survivors include her children, Rose Garti-Kerr and her husband, Bill Kerr, Frank Garti Jr., John Garti, Anne Marie Garti; and a stepson, Roland F. Garti and his wife, Elsie Garti; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Vanda Garti and Madge Bollato; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at St. Peter's Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Edward Ryan and the Rev. Joseph Manerowski as celebrants.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Peter's Church, Delhi, or to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Glenn L. Brewer

BAINBRIDGE — Glenn L. Brewer, 88, of 20 Prospect St., Bainbridge, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born March 28, 1914, in Corbett, the son of the late Harry and Maude Baxter Brewer.

On Dec. 28, 1934, he married Mary  Johnson in Downsville.

Glenn was a retired employee of the Bainbridge-Guilford Schools.

He was a 25-year member of the Bainbridge Fire Department and was a past fire commissioner.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary  Johnson Brewer, Bainbridge; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Susan Brewer, Bainbridge, and Raymond and Charlene Brewer, Bainbridge; six grandchildren and families, Teresa and Rob Burnett, Ginger and Eric Wagner, Mark and Jennine Brewer, Nicole Brewer, Robert Brewer and William Brewer; four great-grandchildren, Alexander Wagner, Melissa Brewer, Vanessa Brewer and James Brewer; and nephews and cousins.

A brother, Warren Brewer predeceased Glenn.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Michael Shank of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney, officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon at the funeral chapel.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Bainbridge Fire Department or Bainbridge Emergency Squad in his name if desired.

Paul A. Thomas Sr.

WALTON — Paul Anthony Thomas Sr., a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at his home. He was 82.

He was born April 28, 1920, in Walton, to Anthony and Rose Rippa Thomas.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, where he received his GED and learned photography.

On June 1, 1946, he married Catherine Macaluso in South Kortright. She predeceased him on May 26, 2001. Mr. Thomas and his wife had operated Thomas Studio Photography in Walton. He had also worked on the construction of the Pepacton Reservoir and later at Scintilla Division of Bendix Corp. in Sidney, where he retired in 1982.

He enjoyed dancing, traveling, gardening and wine making.

Paul A. Thomas Sr. is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Daniel Cooper, Palm Bay, Fla.; son, Gerard Thomas, Walton, and son and daughter-in-law, Paul Jr. and Jill Thomas, Wampsville; three granddaughters, Dana Cooper, Florida, Stacey Porter, Hawaii, and Cheryl Thomas, New York.

Other family members who died earlier include sisters, Mary Boscia, Josephine Huffmire; and brothers, Leonard and Charles "Johnny" Thomas.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at the Walton Cemetery.

There are no prior calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Delaware County Office of the Aging in his name would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lyon Bros.-Way Inc., Walton.

Madeline Hawkins

BAINBRIDGE — Madeline (Gram) M. Hawkins, 88, of Bainbridge passed away peacefully after a long illness on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002.

Madeline enjoyed working at her daughter's coffee shop in Sidney, and enjoyed talking with all of her many friends.

Madeline is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and James Hammond, Bainbridge, and Winifred and Robert Layton, Harpursville; four sons and daughters-in-law, Milton and Candise Hawkins, Binghamton, Bernard and Carol Hawkins, Great Bend, Pa., William and Cheryl Hawkins, Conklin, and David and Gloria Hawkins, Tennessee; 25 very special grandchildren; 52 very special great-grandchildren; four very special great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was predeceased by two sons, Howard and Ernie; three daughters, Evelyn, Lillian and Rosie; and three grandchildren, Patricia Hammond, Sandra and Donald Hawkins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at the Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to The Hospital in Sidney.

Karolina Felber

STAMFORD — Karolina "Lina" Felber, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her sister, Hermine and Rolla Irwin, in Harpursville, where she had lived for the past 21/2 years.

Born in Munich, Germany, on Aug. 25, 1922, she resided in Stamford, for 50 years.

Her devoted husband of 48 years, Karl Felber, predeceased her in 1999.

In addition to her sister, Hermine; she is survived by a son, Fritz Felber and wife Katie of Kentucky; brother, Ferdinand Schmid and family of Munich, Germany; her nieces and their families, Joanna Guntert of Davenport, Cynthia Brannigan, and Rosetta Irwin of Harpursville, Linda Chirikos of Wheaton, Ill.; a nephew and his family, John Irwin of Castle Creek; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons; many nieces and nephews in Germany; and many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.

Because of her love of animals, her family requests that donations be sent in Lina's memory to the Delaware County Animal Shelter in Delhi.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Margaret W. Gable

BALTIMORE — Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, for Margaret W. (Moddie) Gable, 82, of Glen Meadows Retirement Community, Apartment 108, 11630 Glen Arm Road, Glen Arm, MD, 21057.

Mrs. Gable passed away on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1919, in Lancaster, Pa., the daughter of John and Julia Withers.

She married George Y. Gable on April 11, 1942, in Baltimore.

Mrs. Gable was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and crafting.

She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Baltimore.

Mrs. Gable is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, George Gable; a daughter, Dr. Roberta Reed of Cooperstown; a son, Donald Gable of Rockville, Md.; two grandchildren, Amanda and Michael Gable of Rockville, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Glen Meadows Benevolent Fund, 11630 Glen Arm Road, Glen Arm, Md. 21057, or the St. James Lutheran Church Building Fund, 6 W. Overlea Ave., Baltimore, MD 21206.

Wilda L. Camp

MOUNT UPTON — Wilda L. Camp, 71, of Mount Upton died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.

She was born Jan. 2, 1931, in Greene, the daughter of Edward and Sarah (Philips) Krupp.

She was married to Carl Camp on Aug. 4, 1979, in the Chenango Forks Methodist Church.

She had served as postmaster in Chenango Forks and Mount Upton and retired from the United States Postal Service after 24 years of service.

She was trustee and secretary/treasurer of the Butternuts Valley (Copes Corners) Cemetery where she and her husband took great pride in the appearance and neatness of the cemetery.

She was an avid hunter and reader and a devote supporter of the A.S.P.C.A.

Wilda is survived by her husband, Carl Camp, of Mount Upton; her mother, Sarah Philips Krupp of Norwich; two daughters, Diane L. Schrader and husband, Edward of Binghamton, and Sadie L. Hawley and husband, Edward Jr., of Windsor; two sons, Ernest Philip Pickering of  Oklahoma City, Okla., and Timothy A. Pickering and wife, Olivia of Imperial Beach, San Diego,  Calif.; a stepson, Calvin Warren Camp of New Berlin; three sisters, Arlene Warren of Greene, Edith Wildrick and husband, Al of Greene, and Loueva Krupp of New Berlin; and a brother, Steven Krupp and wife, Cora of Chenango Forks. She was blessed by her grandchildren, Brian Edward Hawley and wife, Dee of  Johnson City, Brett and Craig Hawley of Windsor, Matthew Schrader of Binghamton, Angela and Shawn Pickering of Kentucky; and a great-granddaughter, Brianna Hawley of  Johnson City; along with many special friends.

Her first husband, Kenneth Raymond Pickering; and a son, Kenneth Michael Pickering, predeceased her.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bevin S. Long officiating. Burial and committal services will be in the Butternuts Valley (Copes Corners) Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Norwich S.P.C.A. or the Mount Upton Emergency Squad in her memory.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
