Helen C. Simmonds, 95, of 10 Sleepy Hollow Road, Chittenango, died Wednesday. Born in Utica, she lived in Long Island 34 years and in Boca Raton, Fla., 20 years before moving to Chittenango in 1988. She retired in 1967 as a secretary for the Lawrence Public School District on Long Island after 20 years and was a member of its Retired Employees Association. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chittenango and a former member of The Garden Club and Women's Club in Boca Raton. Her husband, James, died in 1994.Survivors: A daughter, Susan Buck of Chittenango; two sons, Daniel G. of Long Island and James H. Jr. of Thousand Islands; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. David L. Vargason, 63, of 8860 S. Willow St., Weedsport, died Tuesday. He was born in Skaneateles. He was a chef at Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles and Balloon's restaurant in Auburn. He raced stock cars and snowmobiles professionally in the 1960s and "70s.Survivors: Two sons, Eric L. of Auburn and Timothy D. of Weedsport; a sister, Sara A. Robert W. Wallace

Robert W. Wallace, 85, formerly of Route 104 E., Oswego, died Wednesday at Seneca Hill Manor in Volney. Born in Oswego, he lived there most of his life and attended Oswego schools. He retired in 1973 as an anealer operator for Flexo Wire in Oswego. He and his wife sold homemade baked goods at the Farmer's Market in Oswego for many years. He was also a fisherman for Cahill Fisheries in Oswego and made fish nets by hand. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Oswego. His wife, the former Rosalie Todaro, died in 1994; a son, Martin, died in 1970.Survivors: A daughter, Roseanne Costello of Oswego; four sons, Robert M., Russell, Nicholas and Joseph, all of Oswego; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. Services: 9 a.m. Saturday at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Burial, St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 112 E. Helen Sasario Benedetto, 80, of Syracuse died Thursday. She was born in Syracuse. She worked at Learbury Clothing Co. for 35 years and was a member of Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. Survivors: Her husband, Louis; two sons, Richard S. of North Carolina and Peter J. of Syracuse; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He also owned and operated Brewerton Lumber Co. for eight years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of nine years, the former Grace Schooley; a daughter, Linda Lombardi of Schenectady; four sons, Alfred of Schenectady, Peter of Bernhards Bay, James of Baldwinsville and Paul of Newfield; three stepdaughters, Elizabeth O'Neil of Culper, Va., Theresa Donlick of Freeville and Judy Tripp of Cortland; a stepson, John Hilker of Groton; 14 grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Helen Davis, 68, of 252 Holland St., Syracuse, died Monday. Born in Belle Glade, Fla., she attended public schools in Florida. She owned and operated Davis' Restaurant in Syracuse and had been a teacher's aide at St. Lucy's School. She worked for Syracuse Department of Parks and Recreation during the summer. Her husband, Herbert Sr., died in 1990; a daughter, Patricia A. Davis, died in 1996. Survivors: Four daughters, Gloria Huggins, Tena M. Davis, Yvonne E. Davis and Denise Nickens, all of Syracuse; four sons, James E. Hill, Herbert Davis Jr. and Oliver L. Davis, all of Syracuse, and Timothy A. Davis of Geneva; two sisters, Evelyn Hill and Louise Chandler, both of Syracuse; three brothers, Charles Hill of Syracuse and Frank and Robert Hill, both of Florida; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren. Survivors: Three daughters, Karen Fountain Vincent of Camillus, Michele Glad of Katy,  Texas, and Denise Paton of Stafford, Va.; a son, Alan of Mattydale; a sister, Rose Ziverts of Liverpool; eight grandchildren. Floyd J. France, 62, of 4559 state Route 49, Fulton, died Wednesday. He was born in Fulton. He retired in 1997 after more than 30 years at Carrier Corp. and had worked at Nestle Co. in Fulton. He was a member of Guiding Light Baptist Church in Williamston and was a Little League softball coach for seven years in Constantia. He sang and played guitar and performed gospel music at local nursing homes and on radio station WSCP in Pulaski. He was a Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1958 to 1960. Survivors: His wife, the former Jean L. Cummings; three daughters, Krista Holdridge, Theresa Grenelle and Dawn Billion, all of Fulton; two sons, David of Syracuse and Floyd of Liverpool; a stepson, Melvin Race Jr. of McGraw; a sister, Betty Somers of Fulton; two brothers, Edward of Phoenix and Leon of Fulton; nine grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a life member of VFW Post 1975 and a member of Mynderse Rice Post 87 of the American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, the former Florence Sullivan, died previously. Survivors: His wife, the former Carleen A. She was a member of St. Agatha's Church and its Altar Rosary Society. Her husband of 70 years, Ernest P., died in 1994.
