Minnie Cook

ONEONTA — Mrs. Minnie Cook, 82, formerly of Southside Oneonta, died Oct. 18, 2002, at home after an extended illness, at 5618 Ostin Ave., Woodland Hills,  Calif., where she resided with her daughter.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Bill Bouton, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, Oneonta.

Mrs. Cook was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Laurel, Yellowstone County, Mont.

She was married to Richard ("Dick") Cook on Aug. 28, 1937. Mr. Cook died Jan. 9, 1987.

She was the manager of the Health Bar Restaurant in Bresee's Oneonta Department Store for over 40 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Ward, of Woodland Hills,  Calif.; two grandchildren, Deborah Mason of Stevensville, Md., and David Ward of Easton, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Katie Mason, Daniel Mason and Jonathan Ward; one sister, Betty Engel of Tacoma, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002.

Eric J. Dunnigan

GRAND GORGE — Eric J. Dunnigan, 22, of Grand Gorge died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at the Albany Medical Center, Albany, after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis.

Mr. Dunnigan was born Oct. 3, 1980, in Stamford, the son of Daniel L. and Betty J. (Sanford) Dunnigan.

A lifelong resident of Grand Gorge, Eric graduated from Roxbury Central School in 2000.

He was attending the Arkville ARC Community Living Skills Day Program. He also volunteered at Mountainside Nursing Home, Margaretville.

Eric was an avid collector of pens of all types and loved his computer.

He is survived by his parents, Betty and Danny Dunnigan, of Grand Gorge; his maternal grandmother, Lois Sanford of Davenport; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Capital District Chapter, 50 Colvin Ave., Albany, NY 12206.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Doris H. Frechette

ROXBURY — Doris H. Frechette, 93, of Roxbury passed away Nov. 6, 2002, at the Countryside Care Center in Delhi, where she had been a resident since May 8, 1992.

She was born on July 5, 1909, the daughter of Ralph and Elizabeth (Ormsbee) VanHoesen in Ashland.

Her first marriage was to Charles Krieger; he died in 1939. Her second marriage was to Elie Frechette, he died in 1966.

Doris was employed at Audiosears in Stamford for several years.

She was a lifelong area resident. She was a former member of the Roxbury Senior Citizens Club.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, Halcottsville.

Doris loved to bake for her friends and family and also enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Phillip Finch, Roxbury; grandchildren, Eric and wife, Kathleen Finch, Clarence, Martin and wife, Rita Finch, Roxbury, Nicholas and fiancee, Ruth Banks, Davenport; Laurel and husband, Russell Hatch, Stamford, and Kristin and husband, Michael Higgins, Stamford; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; also by nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Marquerite Tompkins and Ruth Porn.

Family and friends will be received for a calling hour from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, before a private service for the family at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra, officiating.

Committal will be at a later date at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Windham.

Contributions in memory of Doris H. Frechette may be made to the Roxbury Department Ambulance Fund, Roxbury, NY 12474.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Pauline H. Hough

ONEONTA — Pauline H. Hough, 86, of Oneonta passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home.

She was born Oct. 1, 1916, in Oneonta, the daughter of William J. and Helen (Grosse) Hough.

She was a lifelong area resident. Pauline was retired from the Bendix Corporation in Sidney, where she worked as an inspector.

Pauline is survived by her brother, Albert Hough and his wife, Margaret of Maryland; one half-brother, Kenneth Wasson of Elyria, Ohio; two sisters, Betty Vaccaro of Scotia, and Irma Harrington and her husband, Ed of Allegany, also, several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Mary (Hough) Bishop; a stepsister Pearl (Wasson) Miller; stepbrothers, Harold Wasson, Lester Wasson and Norman Wasson; also, a nephew, Jack P. Hough.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Judy Thistle, A.O. Fox Hospital chaplain, officiating.

Burial will be held in the spring in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call one hour before the funeral service at which time the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics, care of David Miller, 117 Marlette Road, Mount Vision, NY 13810 or to the charity of one's choice in loving memory of Pauline H. Hough.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Sheila Van Buren

EAST WORCESTER — A celebration of life for Sheila Marian Strong Van Buren will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Susan Strang officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Sheila requested donations be made to either the Westford United Methodist Church, Main Street, Westford, NY 13488-0197 or the Community Food Bank, care of the First Presbyterian Church, 148 Main St., Worcester, NY 12197-0396.

Arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Earl Llewellyn Sr.

ONEONTA — Mr. Earl Norman Llewellyn Sr., 81, passed away Nov. 6, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born April 27, 1921, in Scranton, Pa., the son of Simeon and Mary (Hull) Llewellyn.

He was married to Miriam J. Clifford Llewellyn for 56 happy years.

He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army fighting in Africa, Italy and France. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received in Salerno, Italy.

He lived many years at Goodyear Lake, Oneonta and Florida.

He worked for Abeloves Linen Service for 30 years and the Oneonta Transit as a driver after retirement.

He was an avid bowler, golfer and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and University of Notre Dame football.

Survivors besides his wife, Miriam Llewellyn, of Oneonta, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Earl Jr. and his wife, Heide of Rapid City, S.D., and Steven and Chris of Oneonta; granddaughter, Jamie Llewellyn of Oneonta; grandson, Ryan Llewellyn of St. Martin, Virgin Islands; sisters, Ida Turp of Florida, Lurlene Murphy of Nevada; nieces, nephews and loving friends.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in Mr. Llewellyn's memory may be made to the local Oneonta Unit of the Salvation Army, Oneonta, N.Y.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Charles T. Mead

ONEONTA — Charles T. Mead, 68, of Oneonta passed away on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born March 22, 1934, in Oneonta, the son of Charles H. and Alice M. (Daily) Mead.

Charles was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army. For a period of time he worked for the D&HRR.

He is survived by two sisters, a brother and their spouses, Marion Brown of Hudson Falls, Helen and Leslie Quackenbush of Oneonta, and Lawrence and Carole Mead of Unadilla; along with several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by close friends Carl, Jerry and Carol Osterhoudt of Oneonta and the Joy family of Oneonta.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother-in-law, Elmer Brown.

A private funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Edward Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Memorial contributions can be made to Oneonta VFW Post, 279 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Joseph J. Kosier

EAST MEREDITH — Joseph J. Kosier, 61, of East Meredith died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at his residence, where he had resided since 1969.

He was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Hobart, the son of the late Bessie (Dekker) and Joseph Kosier.

He married Jean Briggs on March 3, 1962.

Joe worked as supervisor in the maintenance department at the State University College of Oneonta for 33 years, retiring in 1995. He was an active member of the East Meredith Fire Volunteer Department for many years. He served as Fire Chief and later as a Fire Commissioner.

He enjoyed trapping and beekeeping.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jean Kosier, of East Meredith; five children, Ronald Kosier of Cobleskill, Daniel Kosier and his wife, Heather of Charleston, Donna Kosier and Scott Holmes of Oneonta, James Kosier and his wife, Elizabeth of Esperance, and Jason Kosier and Chalice Moreno of Temple,  Texas; two grandchildren, Nicole Kosier of Cobleskill and Michalla Kosier of Oneonta. Also surviving are two brothers, Stephen Kosier and his wife, Kathleen of Cobleskill and James Kosier and his wife, MaryAnn of Woodburne; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the MacArthur Funeral Home in Delhi, with the Rev. John Burns officiating. Burial will be in East Meredith Cemetery in East Meredith.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at the funeral home. The family will be in attendance in the evening.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or East Meredith Fire Department First Responder, P.O. Box 65, East Meredith, NY 13757.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home in Delhi.

Elizabeth McAdams

DAVENPORT — Elizabeth (Bessie) McAdams, 81, of Davenport died on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Franklin, the daughter of Ida Mae (Terns) and Frank H.  White.

She married F. Lynwood Gray in October 1939 in Walton. He passed away in April 1977. In 1981, she married Floyd W. McAdams of Davenport, where she had since resided.

Bessie was employed at the former Kayser Silk in Walton, at Ponds Insurance Agency and for 22 years she worked as a dental assistant in the office of Bush, Sabbin, Smith and Nowak.

She was a member of Northfield Community Church.

She graduated from Walton High School, Class of 1939, and furthered her education at night school.

Bessie was an avid hunter and fisherwoman. She enjoyed gardening and being a housewife.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd W. McAdams, of Davenport; two stepdaughters, Carol and Stephanie McAdams; a brother, Frank of Mount Vision; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and -nephews; and great- great-nieces and -nephews.

There will be no calling hours. After cremation, services will be held at the graveside at Franklin Ouleout Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Northfield Community Church, Marjorie Rutherford, Box 415, Walton, NY 13856.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home in Davenport.

Cynthia L. Hotaling

WELLS BRIDGE — Cynthia L. Hotaling, 61, of Wells Bridge passed away on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at her home.

She was born on June 14, 1941, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Henry and Helen (Coons) Lyker.

She married Lester M. Hotaling on Dec. 17, 1960, in Rural Grove.

She was a former employee of Hartwick College in Oneonta, where for many years she served as the student loan coordinator. She attended the Unadilla United Methodist Church.

She loved her flowers, gardening, knitting, birds and her pet dogs, Ladybug, Coco and Bandit.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Lester M. Hotaling, of Wells Bridge; her daughter, Leilani Hotaling and her partner, Kaaren Howe of Minnetonka, Minn.; her son, Mark Hotaling and his fiancee, Emily Maderios of Unadilla; her brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Nancy Lyker and John and Colleen Lyker, all of Sprakers; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Bill Neville of Canajoharie; her grandchildren, Kira, Ketki, Chad and Kevin Hotaling; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the Westcott Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. Kip Stratton, pastor of the Unadilla United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery in Unadilla.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, when the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home in Unadilla.

Anthony P. Dulkis

MIDDLEFIELD — Anthony P. Dulkis, 90, of The Meadows went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at The Meadows where he had resided since April 1998.

He was born Thomas Antanas Dulkys on Sept. 3, 1912, the son of Anthony and Nellie Dulkys.

Anthony came to the United States in 1938. He was a tool maker at the Stanley Tool Company in Newark, N.J., for many years.

In 1946, he moved to the Maryland area.

He enjoyed doing carpentry, masonry, and also painting. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.

He is survived by one son, Raymond Dulkis of New Jersey; two grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Dulkis; two sisters, Nellie Dulkis and Josephine Lannan of Spokane, Wash.; as well as several cousins.

Anthony was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Walter and Alexander Dulkis.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at 7 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home at 357 Main St. in Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Baltodano, pastor of the Calvary Christian Fellowship of Schenevus, officiating.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

There will be no calling hours.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to The Meadows Resident Activity Fund, care of Sue Dulkis, P.O. Box 68, Schenevus, New York 12155 in loving memory of Anthony Paul Dulkis.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home.
