Ralph D. Connor

NORWICH — Ralph David Connor (Dave), 55, of Norwich, co-owner of Tansey's Auto Supply Inc. of Norwich, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 6, 2002, at his home.

Dave was born Dec. 8, 1946, in Salem, Ohio, the son of William and Sarah (Dull) Connor.

He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. In 1963, he moved to South New Berlin where he graduated from the South New Berlin High School with the Class of 1965. Following his education, Dave entered the United States Army. He served his country from May 1971 until his honorable discharge in February 1973, when he returned home to the Norwich area to begin his long association with Tansey's Auto Supply. His career with Tansey's would span over 30 years, and he was a co-owner for over 20 years.

Dave was extremely devoted to his son. He was a very private person who had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Dave was a man who was generous to his friends.

Dave was a member of the American Legion Post No. 182 of Norwich.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Connor of Norwich; his sisters, Dawn Gage and her husband, Donald H. of Gilbertsville and Dee Connor of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his nieces and nephews, Tammi Kennedy, Janette Button, James Gage, Jason Moreno, and Aubrie Moreno; and a dear friend, Linda Sperry of Norwich.

Private funeral services for Dave will be held at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.

Arrangements are by R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.

Doris H. Frechette

ROXBURY — Doris H. Frechette, 93, of Roxbury passed away Nov. 6, 2002, at the Countryside Care Center in Delhi, where she had been a resident since May 8, 1992.

She was born on July 5, 1909, the daughter of Ralph and Elizabeth (Ormsbee) VanHoesen in Ashland.

Her first marriage was to Charles Krieger; he died in 1939. Her second marriage was to Elie Frechette; he died in 1966.

Doris was employed at Audiosears in Stamford for several years.

She was a lifelong area resident. She was a former member of the Roxbury Senior Citizens Club.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, Halcottsville.

Doris loved to bake for her friends and family and also enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Phillip Finch, Roxbury; grandchildren, Eric and wife, Kathleen Finch, Clarence, Martin and wife, Rita Finch, Roxbury, Nicholas and fiancee, Ruth Banks, Davenport; Laurel and husband, Russell Hatch, Stamford, and Kristin and husband, Michael Higgins, Stamford; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; also by nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Marquerite Tompkins and Ruth Porn; and one brother, Richard VanHoesen.

Family and friends will be received for a calling hour from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, before a private service for the family at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra, officiating.

Committal will be at a later date at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Windham.

Contributions in memory of Doris H. Frechette may be made to the Roxbury Department Ambulance Fund, Roxbury, NY 12474.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Ursula L. Drohsler

ONEONTA — Ursula L. Drohsler, 79, of Oneonta passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at her residence after a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Holzhausen, Germany, the daughter of Herman and Ilse Stadter.

She married Arthur Drohsler in 1947 in Germany.

She was a private duty nurse in the New York City area until her retirement in 1986, when she moved to Oneonta.

She is survived by her two sons, Emil Wolfgang Drohsler of Oneonta and Fred W.A. Drohsler of NYC.

She was predeceased by her husband and a brother.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made to A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in memory of Ursula.

Arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta.

Alice A. Dilello

ONEONTA — Alice A. Dilello, 61, most recently of Binghamton, and formerly of Oneonta, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton.

She was born July 17, 1941, in Oneonta, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Scott) Dilello.

Alice is survived by two sisters, Joan Asping of Sidney, and Mary Richards of Oneonta; an uncle, Lawrence Scott of Oneonta; and several cousins.

A private family graveside service will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Elizabeth D. Fitch

BURLINGTON FLATS — Elizabeth Davis Fitch, 88, of Burlington Flats, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at The Meadows in Middlefield.

She was born Aug. 16, 1914, in Plainfield, daughter of Marion (Pat) and Ida Mae (Townsend) Welch.

She married Glenn Davis on Jan. 10, 1933. He predeceased her in October 1964. Elizabeth later married Robert Fitch in April 1986. He predeceased her in March of 1994.

Elizabeth and Robert spent their winters in Ormond Beach, Fla. She worked at Curry Nursing Home, Kraft Foods in South Edmeston, and, for 20 years, was a family home-care provider of which she took much pleasure and pride in doing. Elizabeth was a member of the Burlington Flats United Methodist Church for more than 80 years. She served as the church janitor and was also a member of the United Methodist Women. She worked diligently for her church, especially cooking for the church

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Roger Davis; a daughter, Elaine and Wallace Kellogg; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; her daughters-in-law, Marilyn Davis, Janet Davis and Aleta Dunham; two nephews and one niece; special friends Sharon Thomas, Loretta Cursh, Sarah Baulch; and her companion "Bestest Little Girl Princess."

She was predeceased by her daughter, Nadine Davis in 1946; two sons, Lyle Davis in 1986 and Milton in 2001; a great-grandson; and her sister, Edna Osborn in 1998.

A devoted loving mother and grandmother, she was always willing to go out of her way to do all she could for her family and friends. She loved all the little folks. She will be greatly missed by all her family and those who knew her, especially for her love and sense of humor that she shared with many.

The family thanks all the staff at The Meadows for the wonderful care they gave to Elizabeth, and the Hospice staff for the love and care she received from them.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to either the Burlington Flats United Methodist Church or the St. Jude's Cancer Research Hospital in Tennessee.

Funeral and interment are private.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johsnton-Terry Funeral Home of Edmeston.

John B. Wolfe

SHARON SPRINGS — The Rev. John B. Wolfe, 79, of Reechwood Road died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a long illness.

Born in Plymouth, Pa., on Nov. 11, 1922, Mr. Wolfe was a longtime resident of both Mount Upton (Chenango County) and Sharon Springs. He was a 1941 graduate of Duryea Central School and a 1947 graduate of the Wyoming Seminary Business School in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He graduated from the Westminster Theological Seminary in Westminster, Md., in 1951.

He was ordained an elder in 1957. For 33 years, he was a pastor for the United Methodist Church. He served churches in the Wyoming Conference for eight years and churches in the Troy Conference for 25 years. While in the Troy Conference, he spent 18 years in the Sharon Springs/Dorloo United Methodist churches, retiring in 1984.

Mr. Wolfe was an army corporal during World War II serving with the 17th Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge, and a 25-year member of American Legion Post 12451 in Schoharie.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannine (Burch) Wolfe, whom he married Jan. 22, 1948; three sons, Keith David Wolfe (Cindy) of Lawyersville, Ronald Wolfe (Kathy) of Sharon Springs and John C. Wolfe (Nancy) of Schoharie; a daughter, Pauline "Polly" Franceascone (Joseph) of Binghamton; a sister, Mary Allen of Binghamton; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church on Main Street. A reception will immediately follow the service in the church dining hall.

Burial will follow the reception at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Upton.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Lappeus Funeral Home, at 113 Park St. in Sharon Springs.

Contributions may be made to either the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 483, Cherry Valley, NY 13320; the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 155 Beechwood Road, Sharon Springs, NY 13459; or to the Sharon Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Sharon F. Martinez

SIDNEY CENTER — Sharon French Martinez, of Amityville, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in New York City.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1946, in Walton, N.Y., the daughter of Clayton E. and Margaret (Hinkley) French.

Her early life was spent in the Sidney Center area. She graduated from Sidney Central School and later married Jesus Martinez. For almost 40 years, she worked for the Jewish Home and Hospital in Manhattan.

Mrs. Martinez was predeceased by her husband and her father.

Survivors include her son, Daniel Martinez of Manhattan; her daughter, Shanna Suarez, and her husband, Juan, of Miami, Fla.; her mother, Margaret French of Sidney Center; her sisters, Carole Van Valkenburg, and her husband, James, and Marlene Uribe and her husband, Fernando, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and her brothers, Gary French and his wife, Alice, of South Plymouth, N.Y., Wayne French and his wife, Maureen, of Sidney Center and Lynn French and his companion, Kristie, of Sidney Center.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Heather French of Cedarville, Ohio, Jeremy French of South Plymouth, Lisa French of Baltimore, Md., Arin French of Sidney Center, Shelly and Andrew Riley of Norwich, Jennifer and Daniel Liddle Sr. of Laurens, Todd, Jessica, Joshua and Megan Van Valkenburg of Unadilla, Lindsey French of Sidney Center, Jayson and Brandon Riley of Norwich and Ashley, Daniel Jr. and Bryanna Liddle of Laurens.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Joyce Funeral Home Inc., at 179 Main St. in Unadilla.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Joyce Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Kip Stratton of the Sidney Center United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow at Highland Hill Cemetery in Sidney Center.

Arrangements are by the Joyce Funeral Home Inc. of Unadilla.

Diane Burr

THOMASTON, Conn. — Diane (Richards) Burr, 38, of Thomaston, Conn., died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at home. She was the wife of Michael Burr, formerly of Cooperstown.

Mrs. Burr was born Aug. 17, 1964, in Waterbury, daughter of Edwin and Barbara (Malley) Richards of Litchfield. She received a bachelor's degree and studied for a doctor of pharmacy at the University of Florida.

She was a lifelong communicant and active participant at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Thomaston, where she developed the Vacation Bible School Program.

She was a ski instructor at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, a member of the Republican Town Committee and National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as a justice of the peace in Thomaston for many years.

Besides her husband and parents, she leaves her paternal grandmother, Ruby Montgomery of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a son, Brian Burr of Thomaston; two daughters, Stephanie and Kristin Burr, both of Thomaston; a brother, Thomas Richards of Newton, Mass.; and two sisters, Lynn Murphy of San Diego,  Calif., and Dawn Richards Tobin of Litchfield.

Funeral services were at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, from Lyons Funeral Home in Thomaston followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Thomas Church.

Burial was in Northfield Cemetery.

Lloyd T. Kennedy

MILFORD — Lloyd Terrance Kennedy, "Terry" as he was known to his family and friends, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 9, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare after a lengthy illness.

Terry was born Feb. 17, 1948, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, the son of Thomas H. and Mildred (Newell) Kennedy Jr.

Terry was a paraplegic in a wheel chair. However, that never stopped him from playing baseball, basketball, football and other sports with his "boyhood" friends, albeit with "amended" rules.

Terry also attended Milford Central School.

He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, skeet shooting and various other sports with his boyhood friend Marty Rogers.

Terry taught NRA "Home Firearms Safety," the New York State hunter safety course and assisted instructor Robert Moore of Milford in teaching American Red Cross First Aid.

Terry owned his own photography business in the 1970s; weddings, portraits, ID/Passport photos, commercial pictures, sports pictures for the Milford MACS baseball team where only a few of his photographic accomplishments.

He was a very accomplished artist, working with oil and acrylic paints and water colors. His mentors were Tim O'Brien and Marquerite Jones, both of Milford.

He also owned and operated a CB Radio and Service business for several years.

Terry was very active in emergency services, then civil defense and was president of the MICE CB Club for several years. The MICE club members provided emergency communications to the office of Civil Defense which was under the direction of Walter G. Morrison.

Terry became an honorary member of the Milford Fire Department and Emergency Squad. He assisted the emergency squad in the purchase of their 1972 Cadillac ambulance. He took training in the department, including "Essentials of Firemanship," Haz Mat investigations, fire investigation, Aircraft Crash/Rescue, Haz Mat Incident Command, Wildland Search and Rescue and several Radiological Monitoring courses under the direction of Jim Havener

He also took the fire police course and could be seen in the middle of the road directing traffic at accident and fire scenes.

He became a "Ham Radio" operator in 1990, attaining the advanced level license class. His continuing interest in communications has served him well since getting his "Ham Ticket." He had other amateur radio operators in Otsego and surrounding counties, collectively known as "OCARES," Otsego County Amateur Radio Emergency Services, provided the Office of Emergency Services under the direction of Lyle "Butch"  Jones with trained communicators and storm/rainfall spotters during times of emergency. He was appointed "RACES" (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services) officer in 1997 and "ARES" (Amateur Radio Emergency Service,) and "DEC" (District Emergency Coordinator) overseeing four counties — Chenango, Delaware, Herkimer and Otsego cCounties in 1998.

OCARES was on the air and operating as the tornadoes that struck Otsego County tore through the county providing information on its path, the damage already reeked, medical and food supply, fuel needs, shelters operations and much more.

Survivors include his father, Thomas H. Kennedy Jr.; aunts, Margaret Kennedy Green of Worcester, Betty Newell McGinnes, Shirley Newell Wilcox and Virginia Newell Kiel of Schenectady; uncles, Robert Newell of Moraviah and Julian Newell of Missouri; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his loving mother, Mildred Newell Kennedy, on Feb. 24, 1998.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the Milford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Kazinski, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Picher co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego County Amateur Radio Association, 4948 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 or to the Milford Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 359, Milford, N.Y. 13807.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Betty Bremer

OTEGO — Betty Jean Pridgeon Bremer, 81, of Otego, passed away peacefully at home, Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2002.

She was born Oct. 28, 1921, in Fort Wayne, Ind., daughter of the late Hazel and Harold Pridgeon.

After attending West Side High School in Fort Wayne, she graduated from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, in 1944. She taught elementary education in Fort Wayne for two years after college.

In 1946, she married the Rev. Dr. David H. Bremer and spent several years at Yellowstone National Park, where he served as a ranger naturalist with the National Park Service.

The couple lived in Boston and  Washington, D.C., moving in 1952. to Allentown, Pa., where they lived for 30 years and raised their children.

Her husband was chaplain and professor of religion at Muhlenberg College.

Betty taught special education in reading for the Allentown public schools.

A love of travel combined with an academic schedule allowed the family to spend summers traveling and camping throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

Betty was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active in work for civil rights and social justice.

Following her husband's death in 1983, Betty lived at the Lutheran Home in Topton, Pa. She moved to Otego in 1991.

She enjoyed art and jazz, especially Louie Armstrong and Wynton Marsalis. An avid C-span watcher, she followed politics and had a special interest in Arab-American relations.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, an avid basket collector, an indefatigable gardener and a notable cook.

Betty is survived by her sister, Carolyn Congdon of Fort Wayne, Ind.; her two sons and their spouses, David Bremer and Patricia Farris of Santa Monica,  Calif., and Charles and Martha Bremer of Otego; and three granddaughters, Jessica Bremer and her husband, Josh Faust of Oakland,  Calif., Karin Bremer, a world traveler, and Lara Bremer, a student in Santa Cruz,  Calif.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts, The Wilber Mansion, 11 Ford Ave., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.
