Ann Duncan

8/4/2004 - BOSTON, Mass. - Ann Katherine Pakula Duncan of Boston, formerly of Dunkirk, and Florida, died Tuesday (July 6, 2004) in her home. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Pakula and Grace Mullaney Pakula Fafinski.

She was a 1957 graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School, attended D'Youville College in Buffalo, and earned a bachelors of arts in counseling from Empire State College in Fredonia. While living in Florida, she worked with displaced homemakers in Fredonia, and founded MS Support Groups and worked with battered women, where she received numerous rewards for her dedication to people with disabilities. A Boston resident since 1998, she testified before the Massachusetts State Legislature and was an active member of the Boston Home Residents Council.

A lover of life, a defender of the rights of women and the disabled, a creative and compassionate mother and friend, and a natural at finding humor in every aspect of life, Mrs. Duncan lived unselfishly and valiantly with MS and fough a brave battle with ovarian cancer for the last three years of her life.

She is survived by a daughter, Maura "Molly" Welch of Marblehead, Mass.; two grandsons; and two sisters: Dorothy Pakula Whittaker of Boston, and Sylvia Fafinski Lapp of Cowlesville.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: Ian and Jim Duncan, who died in 1995; her step-father, Frank Fafinski; and a stepbrother, Jim Fafinski.

Anne Gaeta

8/27/2004 - YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. - Anne F. Gaeta, 93, a former resident of Jamestown for more than 60 years and Kissimmee, Fla., for more than 20 years, died at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 25, 2004) in the Rouse Home in Youngsville. She was the widow of Dominic V. Gaaeta, whom she married April 29, 1939, in St. James Church and who died Dec. 18, 1988.

A lifelong area resident, she was born March 1, 1911, in Jamestown, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Cusimano Scheira.

She was baptized in St. James Catholic Church and most recently had attended Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. She had sold Tupperware for about 30 years and was the first Tupperware manager in the Jamestown area.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lynne Videll of Jamestown; a son, Ronald J. Gaeta of Elmira, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Patrick D. Videll of Cincinnati, Scott A. Videll of Jamestown, John C. Videll of Chicago, Heather J. Ruggeri of  Johnson City, N.Y., and Jessica D. Stratton of Ithaca, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Peter Scheira of Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Josephine Robinault-Hult and Sara Cusimano; and a brother, Samuel Scheira.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in the columbarium section of the Mausoleum in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Falconer Funeral Home.

Anthony Ferrari

3/2/2005 - Anthony "Tony" Ferrari, 91, of 811 Harding Ave., died at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday (March 1, 2005) in Heritage Park Health Care Center. A lifelong area resident, he was born March 31, 1913, in Jamestown, the son of Phillip and Josephine Trusso Ferrari.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II from Oct. 10, 1940, to July 10, 1945. During his tour of duty he received the American Defense Service Ribbon, One Bronze Battle Star, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Ribbon. Prior to retirement in 1962, he was a self-employed painting contractor working in the Jamestown area for many years.

He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lena E. Kuppinger, whom he married July 10, 1971; a stepson, George Sielski of Waterford, Conn.; two grandchildren: Renee DeAngelo of Albany and Dana Saporito of Odenton, Md.; and two great-grandchildren.

He also enjoyed his time spent with his niece Carmella Truce and his nephew Julius Cusimano.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and Samuel Ferrari; and three sisters: Josephine Lipari, Anna A. Cusimano and Diane Ferrari.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert A. Stolinski, parochial vicar of St. James Catholic Church, will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led by the Rev. Stolinski at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Antoinette Phelka

12/20/2004 - FREDONIA - Antoinette R. "Lena" Phelka, 78, died Saturday (Dec. 18, 2004) in her home. She was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Dunkirk, the daughter of Salvatore and Anna Bucalo Fote.

She had been employed by Brooks Memorial Hospital and the former Van Raale Corporation. She was a member Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church and its Blessed Sacrament Society.

She loved to play bingo, bowling and to crochet. She had a very open and loving heart and she also loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of more than 53 years, Stanley Phelka, who she married Feb. 3, 1951; three sons: Robert, Ken and Stanley Phelka, all of Fredonia; a daughter, Anna Fales of Falconer; seven grandchildren: a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Angelo Fote of Port St. Lucy, Fla.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas, Anthony and Joseph Fote; and two sisters: Mary Cosenza and Rose Epolito.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday oin Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Mackowiak Funeral Home, 56 East Doughty St., Dunkirk. A prayer service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Ariel Harvey

7/28/2004 - Ariel A. Harvey, 99, of 1611 W. Third St., formerly of 2812 Bentley Ave., died at 8 p.m. Monday (July 26, 2004) in her home. A Jamestown resident since 1944, she was born May 21, 1905, in Sigel, Pa., the daughter of Harry H. and Myrtle Arminta Kroh Asel.

She was the widow of F. Parker Harvey, whom she married Aug. 14, 1937, and who died Dec. 27, 1989.

She was a member of Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ, where she was a deaconess and member of the Scrooby Club. She was a member of Home Bureau, Mt. Sinai-Mecca Order of Eastern Star, Lakewood Rod and Gun Auxiliary, the American Association of Retired Persons and a volunteer with the American Red Cross for 30 years.

She knitted hats and mittens for The Salvation Army for many years and baby layettes for missions at Pilgrim Memorial and knitted afghans for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Helen  Johnson of Busti; three grandchildren: Timothy M.  Johnson of Springdale, Ark., Christine E. Evans of Jamestown and Gregory D.  Johnson of Shelbyville, Ind.; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Fox of Rixford, Pa.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James D. Harvey, who died in 1952; and six brothers: Duane K., R. Kenneth, Raymond K., Charles T., Harold E. and Ralph B. Asel.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gilbert J. Pearson, pastor of Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

Arthur J. Regan Jr.

1/25/2006 - Arthur J. Regan Jr., died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 in Lakeshore Hospital, Irving, N.Y. Born Jan. 15, 1942, in Buffalo. Son of the late Arthur and Helen (Stranz) Regan. He was employed by the Salamanca Sub Con Industries, a division of the Rehabilitation Center for more than 25 years.

He enjoyed bowling, music, and dancing. He was a fan of the Buffalo Bills.

He is survived by a sister, Geraldine Swanson, brother-in-law, Darwood Swanson of Lakewood, Uncle Raymond Stranz of New York City, nephews, Craig Swanson of Ashville, Keith Swanson of Casselberry, Fla., niece, Pamela Spremulli of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, great-nieces: Sarah Jane Swanson of Lakewood and Ella Spremulli of Chagrin Falls.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Silver Creek. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to The Rehabilitation Center, Salamanca Cub Con Industries, 1439 Buffalo St., Olean, N.Y., 14760 or Special Olympics New York, P.O. Box 768, Schenectady, N.Y., 12301-0768.

Anna Leder

10/17/2005 - CATTARAUGUS - Anna M. Leder, 83, formerly of Cattaraugus, died Saturday (Oct. 15, 2005) at Olean General Hospital. She was born in Olean on Nov. 23, 1921, the daughter of the late William A. and Mary Conroy. Mrs. Leder retired from the Great A&P Tea Company where she worked for many years. She also worked in retail clothing sales and designed and sold beaded Christmas ornaments. During World War II she worked for the American Red Cross in California. She is known for her beautiful landscaping and seamstress talents. She is survived by two daughters, Rene Adams and Deborah Burnham, both of Cattaraugus; one brother, Leo Conroy of Mountain View, Mo.; a sister, Rita Agnew of Billings, Mont.; four grandchildren, Krista Mosher, Marquis Adams, Michael Burnham and Michelle Montoya; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Robert D. Leder whom she married on Sept. 16, 1940, in St. Mary's R.C. Church in Olean and who died on March 6, 2005; three brothers, Victor, William and James Conroy; and a sister, Mary Luh. A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Napoli United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Mike Trenchard. A private graveside service will be held at the Little Valley Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Anna's name to the Salamanca Memorial Library. Arrangements are by the Mentley Funeral Home, Inc., Little Valley.

Anna Donisi

3/3/2005 - Anna Donisi, 95, of 4 Summit Ave., Jamestown, died at 5:52 p.m. Tuesday (March 1, 2005) in WCA Hospital. She was born on August 1, 1909, in Canicatti, Sicily, the daughter of Vincenzo and Maria LaLumia Carlino. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Her faith was her base for living and her total enjoyment of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Joseph Donisi, with whom she made her home; two daughters: Lina Donisi and Maria Immordino, both of Jamestown; six grandchildren: Giuffre, Angelo, Vincenzo and Joe Donisi Jr. and Lillian Wilbur, all of Jamestown; and Chuck Immordino of Cranberry Township, Pa.; 14 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Dina Colletti.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincenzo Donisi, whom she married on September 6, 1930, in Canicatti, Sicily.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon Friday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Msgr. Antoine P. Attea, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum.

Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home. An Altar and Rosary Society Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:30 p.m.

Audrey Duntley

8/16/2004 - SOUTH DAYTON - Audrey F. Duntley, 93, died Saturday (Aug. 14, 2004) in Lake Shore Hospital, Irving. She was born April 19, 1911, in Jamestown, the daughter of Henry and Mabel Bradley Larson.

She was a graduate of Russell High School and a 1930 graduate of Edinboro Normal School. She taught intermediate grades in Russell, Pa., Corydon, Pa., and Lander, Pa., retiring in 1976 from Randolph. She was active with the Methodist Church in Corydon, and East Randolph, and an active member of the South Dayton United Methodist Church. She served as organist, Sunday school teacher, administrative board secretary and women's group officer. She was also a former member of women's literary clubs in Randolph, and South Dayton, and various civic groups.

She is survived a son, Kevin R. Duntley of South Dayton; a daughter, Dr. Diane L. Duntley of Indiana, Pa.; three grandsons: Steven Duntley of South Dayton, Scott Duntley of Amherst, N.Y., and James Duntley of Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Duntley, whom she married Sept. 3, 1938; a brother, LeRoy D. Larson; and a sister, Ida Grace Larson.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hills Funeral Chapel, 478 Balcom Corners, South Dayton. The Rev. Daniel J. Bradley of the South Dayton United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Corydon River View Cemetery in Corydon.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral chapel.

Memorials may be made to the South Dayton United Methodist Church; or the South Dayton Volunteer Fire Department.

Audrey Holiman

8/4/2004 - BELTON,  Texas - Audrey Brown Holiman, 95, died Sunday (Aug. 1, 2004) in Temple Hospital. She was born Dec. 12, 1908, in Jamestown, the daughter of Irvin A. and Mabel B. Pickard Brown.

She attended Virginia College in Roanoke, Va., earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in 1933, and her master's degree in 1937 from New York University. She had been employed as a caseworker by the Department of Public Welfare in Jamestown, from 1936 to 1938, and as a secondary teacher in the Edinburg public schools from 1939 to 1941.

She served on the planning and zoning board, the League of Women Voters and as a Girl Scout leader. She was an exhibitor and member of the South Padre Island Shell Club for many years. She was also a supporter and member of the Audubon Society.

After raising her children, Mrs. Holiman joined her husband in traveling for adventure and shell collecting. She and her husband were always willing to give presentations of their many travels to Mexico and Central and South America.

She is survived by a son, H. Wayne Holiman Jr. of Chula Vista,  Calif.; two daughters: Anita Louise Oldham of Belton and Harriet McCord of Comfort,  Texas; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Edinburg.

Arrangements are by the Heartfield Funeral Home, 503 N. Main, Belton.

Audrey J. Snyder

1/19/2006 - Audrey J. Snyder, 88, formerly of Kennedy, died at 6:25 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in Lutheran Social Services. Mrs. Snyder was the widow of Harold B. Snyder, whom she married in 1938, and who died May 8, 1957.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Jamestown, and was the daughter of the late Carl C. and Rosalie M. Nelson Torsell.

Mrs. Snyder was a 1936 graduate of Falconer High School.

She enjoyed her hobbies of reading, crocheting, and in earlier years was a member of the Home Bureau.

Surviving is a son, Dennis Snyder of Kennedy; two daughters: Deanna Schrader and Lana Thore, both of Jamestown; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides her husband, she was preceded by three brothers: Clifton, Raymond "Chet" and Norman Torsell.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Aurora Main

8/13/2004 - Aurora Annlynn Main, infant daughter of Jamie Main, of 3 Cobham Park Road, died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 2004) in Warren General Hospital. Besides her mother, she is survived by her grandparents: Robert and Pamela Main of Warren, and Terry and Melia Richardson of Bushnell, Fla.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc.

B. Delores Reynolds

8/10/2004 - NORTH WARREN - B. Delores Reynolds, 82, of 401 S. State St., died at 4:05 a.m. Friday (Aug. 6, 2004) in her home. She was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Swissdale, Pa., the daughter of Frank H. and Ellen Peterson Bub.

She was a 1940 graduate of Corry High School, and had been employed by the Blair Corp. for 181/2 years in the correspondence department. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and its Allen Class and United Methodist Women. She was a past Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader.

She was an avid quilter and enjoyed her flower garden.

She is survived by two sons: Robert Kim Reynolds of Russell, Pa., and Thomas Bub Reynolds of Coudersport, Pa.; a daughter, Tracy E. Kirkpatrick of Lander, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and a brother, Lawrence F. Bub of Kouts, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert King Reynolds, whom she married May 30, 1946, and who died May 1, 1994; a sister, Jean Duncan; and a brother, Robert Bub.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. The Rev. William Starr, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Russell.

Friends will be received from one hour prior to the service in the parlors of the church.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Warren County; First United Methodist Church; or a charity of choice.
