Margaret Brownell
LITTLE FALLS — Margaret Brownell, 85, formerly of Kuyrkendall Courts and Rockton Plaza, Little Falls, passed away Friday, June 2, 2000 at the Masonic Home, Utica.
She was born on March 1, 1915 in Kilmarnick, Scotland, daughter of the late Robert and Jean (Alexander) Noble. She came to this country in 1929, first to Ballston Spa and in 1930 to Little Falls. She was educated in Scotland, Ballston Spa, and Little Falls schools.
She was united in marriage to Franklin C. Brownell on Sept. 30, 1939 at the United Methodist Church, Little Falls, with Reverend Barrett officiating. Mr. Brownell predeceased her on May 6, 1998.
Mrs. Brownell was a member of the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church and was a very active member of the former Little Falls United Methodist Church. She was also an over-50-year member of the former Rock City Chapter No. 272, Little Falls O.E.S. where she served as matron for many years. She was also the O.E.S. district representative for the state of  Oklahoma.
She was employed as an inspector for the former H.P. Snyder Mfg. Co., Little Falls, retiring at the plant's closing with over 20 years of service.
She is survived by four daughters, Sandra Kaarstad and her husband Richard of Poway,  Calif., Nanette Heintz and her husband Vincent of Briarcliffe Manor, Ruth Harris and her husband Kenneth of Rye,  Colo., and Martha Gibbs and her husband Richard of Oneonta; a sister, Nan Rostiser and her husband Bud of Wildwood, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James Noble.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 10 a.m. from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls with the Reverend Michael P. Yezierski, pastor of the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, June 6 from 3-6 p.m. and to attend the funeral services Wednesday morning.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Brownell be considered to the Masonic Home, Utica. Envelopes are available at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc. for this purpose.
Members of the Auskerada, McCoy and Rock City Chapter No. 204 O.E.S., Dolgeville will call in a body at the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. to conduct their ritualistic services.

Kathleen Lull
ST. JOHNSVILLE — Kathleen Harrod Lull, 93, of 24 Kingsbury Ave., St. Johnsville, passed away in her sleep on Sunday morning, June 4, 2000.
She was born in Indian Castle on Jan. 3, 1907, the daughter of the late Charles and Harriet (Doney) Harrod. She was educated in the Little Falls Church Street School and the Indian Castle School. As a child she attended the Indian Castle Church. She later was a member of the Little Falls Methodist Church until 1935, when she joined the St. Johnsville Methodist Church where she has been a member until her death. She was very active and held many offices in her church.
She was an active member of the following organizations: Rebekah Lodge 118; Past Noble Grands; Rebekah Montgomery County Associations; the Order of the Eastern Star 202; and the Kings Daughters.
Kathleen married Harold Green in 1927. He died in 1962. In 1965, she married C. Curtis Lull and assisted him in the funeral business until his death in 1987.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Al DiLorenzo of Schenectady and St. Johnsville; three stepchildren, Barbara McClelland of St. Johnsville, Jack Lull of Boston, Mass., Dorothy Lull of St. Johnsville; two sisters, Amelia Mosher of Rochester, and Grace Howe of Little Falls; a granddaughter, Alison DiLorenzo of New York City; a grandson, Jay DiLorenzo and his wife, Jessica, of Schenectady. In addition there are six step-grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kathleen was predeceased by a stepson, George Lull; three sisters, Irene Levee, Florence Grant, and Jessie Heafey, and two brothers, George and Charles Harrod.
Funeral services will be conducted at the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 7 at 1 p.m. Reverend Michael Yezierski, pastor, will conduct the services. The Order of Eastern Star will also participate. Burial will take place immediately after the church service at St. Johnsville Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville. All memorial contributions may be made to S.A.V.A.C. or to St. Johnsville United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or at church the day of the services.

Richard F. Starring
LITTLE FALLS — Richard F. Starring, 73, of 173 Church St., Little Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 2, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital, New Hartford, with his loving family by his side.
He was born on December 10, 1926, in Little Falls, the son of the late Fred D. and Beatrice (Sweeney) Starring. He was educated at St. Mary's Academy and had resided in the Little Falls area most of his life. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish.
He was united in marriage to the former Elizabeth Weston on June 20, 1953, in St. Mary's Church, Little Falls.
Richard, a World War II veteran, served in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted on January 19,1946, and was honorably discharged on November 12, 1947. On September 22, 1949, (during the Korean Conflict in which he was wounded), Richard enlisted with the U.S. Army, holding the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged on October 3, 1952. During this time in the service, he received the Occupation Medal of Japan and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Richard was last employed by Hale Manufacturing in Herkimer where he had worked for several years, retiring in 1988. He also at one time worked for the former M.D.S. in Herkimer.
Outside of his working career, Richard was a member of the American Legion Post No. 31 in Little Falls and also a former member of the Staff Sgt. Steve Stefula VFW Post.
Richard was a person who truly loved and appreciated his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always thinking of them and remembering them in many kind and thoughtful ways.
Among his many interests, he enjoyed carpentry and gardening. He found great pleasure in helping his family with their certain projects. Richard will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his joking manner.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his five sons, Richard A. Starring and wife, Bona, of Little Falls, Gregg F. Starring and wife, Debora, of Palatine Bridge, Robert D. Starring and wife, Gail, of West Valley City, Utah, Jeffrey J. Starring and wife, Ann Marie, of Van Hornesville, and Scott T. Starring and special friend, Brenda LaPone, of Little Falls; his grandchildren, Michael Pawelek, Gregg Starring, Jonathan Starring, Garret Starring, Sarah Starring, Jennie Starring, Mary Beatrice Starring, Bobbi Ann Starring, Andrew Starring, Scott T. Starring Jr., Shawn Starring and Rochelle Starring; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Staring.
The funeral will commence with full military honors on Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at 9:15 a.m. from the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, and at 10 a.m. from the Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main and John streets, Little Falls, with the Reverend Charles R. Celeste, pastor, celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Rural Park Cemetery in Inghams Mills where interment will take place. Friends and family may call at the Enea Funeral Home on Monday, June 5, from 5-8 p.m. Members of the American Legion Post No. 31 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7 p.m. for services.
It is the wish of the family that memorial contributions in memory of Richard be considered to the Holy Family Parish Restoration Fund. Envelopes will be available at the Enea Funeral Home.

Louise C. Pohleven
LITTLE FALLS — Louise C. Pohleven, 67, formerly of Inghams Mills and more recent of 759 E. Monroe St. Ext., (Falls Courts) Apt. 206, Little Falls passed away Monday, July 3, at her residence.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1933, in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Frances (Randall) Van Slyke. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School, Class of 1951.
She was a member of the Holy Family Parish of Little Falls as well as a member of the Little Falls German Maennechor and the Polish Community Home, Little Falls.
She was well known for her dancing talent during her high school years and enjoyed spending time with her family and at her camp on Keyser Lake.
Mrs. Pohleven was employed at one time by the former National Automotive Fibers Co., Little Falls. She was last employed for 23 years in the laundry department of the Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls, retiring in 1997.
She is survived by two sons, Mark A. Pohleven and his wife, JoAnne, Little Falls and Michael S. Pohleven and his wife, Margie, Rochester; two daughters, LuAnn Mullen and Lori Pohleven, both of Little Falls; eight grandchildren, Jason, Jamie, Jessica, Jeremy, Justin and  Taylor Pohleven, Gary Mullen, Jr., and Christa Mullen; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler and Jordanna Pohleven.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 6. at 10 a.m. from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls with Rev. Charles R. Celeste, pastor of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls, officiating. Interment take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, July 6, from 9-10 a.m. and to attend the funeral services to follow.

Robert T. Flynn
HERKIMER — Robert T. Flynn, 76, of North Bellinger Street died on Tuesday morning, July 4, 2000, in Faxton Hospital, Utica after an extended illness. Funeral form Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer, will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. The Rev. Peter Nabozny, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis de Sales Parish Hall Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.

Clarida L. Stowell
DOLGEVILLE — Mrs. Clarida L. Stowell, 75, of 7755 State Hwy. 29, Dolgeville, died Friday evening June 30, 2000 in Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a brief illness. Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. There are no calling hours. Memorials may be made to the Stratford Senior Citizens or to the Oppenheim Methodist Church in her name. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville.

Bernard F. Kirby
GLOVERSVILLE — Mr. Bernard F. Kirby, Sr. 75, of South Blvd. Gloversville, died Friday, June 30, 2000 at his residence following a long illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday July 5 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville. Burial will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, with military honors. Calling hours will be private at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to St. Mary of Mount Carmel Building Fund, 149 South Main St., Gloversville NY 12078 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 North Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements are by the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville.

Walter E. Palmer

SCHENECTADY — Walter E. Palmer, 87, passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2002.

Mr. Palmer was born in Hartwick, to Jennie Doyle and Fred Palmer. He resided for many years in Cherry Valley, and moved with his wife, Beulah to Schenectady, where they spent their remaining years.

Mr. Palmer served with distinction in both the Merchant Marine Service as well as the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Walter, or Walt as he was known to his many friends, worked for years in the automotive business in the Albany area.

He was the devoted husband of Beulah T. Palmer, who predeceased him in 1997. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Grace Houck and Margaret Thompson; a brother, Elmer Palmer; and a son, J. Edward Young.

He is survived by his sisters, Ella Mae Christian and Bertha Johnson; along with a daughter, Marguerite (Peg) Davis and her husband, Earl of Schenectady. Also surviving are grandchildren, Carole Curry, Susan Gosselin, Earl Davis Jr., Brian Davis, Peggy Fredette; and several great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His life was one of service to others, always given with a generous spirit. In a final unselfish act, Walter has donated his body to the anatomical gift program at Albany Medical College; as such, there will be no public services at this time.

Elizabeth Carlson

SIDNEY — Elizabeth "Liz" Carlson, 80, of 11 Secor St., Sidney, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Couse-Irving Hospital, Syracase.

She was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Huntingdon, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Mary Naomi Miller Sanks.

On March 3, 1945, she married Robert Carlson in Sidney. He predeceased her on Sept. 21, 1993.

Liz operated Liz's Fabrics and the Pennysaver in Sidney, for several years. She was a longtime member of the Sidney, United Methodist Church.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Melissa Carlson, Liverpool; daughter, Cynda Hurley, Columbia, S.C., son-in-law, Michael Hurley, Columbia, S.C.; sister, Evelyn Sanks, Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kelly and James Carlson, Erin and Kristen Hurley. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Two brothers, Cloyd and Ellsworth Sanks; and six sisters, Beatrice Rhodes, Laura Marble, Catherine Sanks, Josephine Owens, Betty Vitch and Jane Cook predeceased her.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, from the Sidney United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Masland, officiating.

Burial will be held in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, in the spring of 2003.

At the families request there will be no calling hours.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Memorial Fund of the United Methodist Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, N.Y. 13838.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Alex Neish Doig

VAN HORNESVILLE — Mr. Alex Neish Doig, 92, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Folts Nursing Home, Herkimer.

He was born May 4, 1910, in Walton, the son of William and Lillian (Neish) Doig.

On April 24, 1938, he married Altana Smith in the Utica Congregational Church.

A longtime area resident, Mr. Doig was a surveyor for the Herkimer County Highway Department.

Survivors, besides his wife, Altana Doig, of Van Hornesville; include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Terry Crandall of Richfield Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Patricia Doig; and two grandsons, Derrick and Brandon Doig, all of Cape Neddick, Maine.

A memorial service will be held in the spring, time to be announced. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in Mr. Doig's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Margaret Moakler

COOPERSTOWN — Margaret Moakler, 87, formerly of Cooperstown, died Dec. 25, 2002, at Kendall of Ithaca Nursing Home.

She was born in Cooperstown, a daughter of Edward and Adelia (Toolen) Moakler.

She is survived by a sister, Marian Garrison of Massachusetts; a brother, Edward Moakler of California; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Ethan N. Yakalis

ONEONTA — Ethan Nicholas Yakalis, passed away Wednesday. Dec. 25, 2002, in the Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, shortly after birth.

Ethan was the son of Matthew C. Yakalis and Jacquelyn M. Huyck, of Oneonta.

He is survived by his parents, Jackie and Matt; his grandparents, Katherine Yakalis and David Orozsi of Kingston, Dr. Christopher Huyck of Saratoga Springs, and Mary Jane Huyck of Walton; two uncles, Christian Yakalis of Oneonta and Justin and Julia Huyck of Chicago, Ill.

A prayer service will be held Friday afternoon, Jan. 3, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, Walton, with the Rev. Michael Flannery, rector of St. John the Baptist Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m., two hours prior to the prayer service.

Burial will be in the family plot, Walton Cemetery, in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ethan's memory to the St. John the Baptist Church, 15 Benton Ave., Walton.
