Beatrice Peckham

ONEONTA — Beatrice Lillian Peckham died Jan. 7, 2003, after a long illness.

She was born in Jersey City, N.J., on April 17, 1927, to George H. and Lillian Prigge Frosch.

She was married in Hancock on June 6, 1953, to Grant M. Peckham, who survives.

She is further survived by son, Grant H. and Janine Peckham, and their two sons, Richard and Steven of Alexandria, Va., and son, Fred Peckham of Front Royal, Va.; and a daughter, Marcia of Oneonta.

Her brother, George, and son, Matthew, predeceased her.

She graduated from William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City and attended Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and the Wittenburg Acapella choir.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hancock.

There will be a graveside service at the family plot at Riverview Cemetery in the spring.

Edward M. Landry

ONEONTA — Edward M. (Q-Stick) Landry, 59, of Oneonta died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Jan. 28, 1943, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Mark and Mary (Lyons) Landry.

He married Barbara Seymour on Nov. 28, 1987, in Springfield, Mass.

He was employed as a professional truck driver with Millis Transfer Company for the past 12 years, and prior to that he worked for Vanpak Transportation Company.

He and his wife, Barbara, and Sassy had spent more than 41/2 years traveling and touring the United States driving truck together.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, NASCAR racing, driving his truck and he loved his family with all his heart and sole.

He was a former member of the King Cobra Motorcycle Club and the Rising Sons Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; and a nephew, Thomas Maxwell, who resided with them in Oneonta. His children include Elaine Judd and husband, David, of Bellows Falls, Vt., Theresa Landry of Bellows Falls, Vt., Cherie Flannery and husband, James, of Oneonta, Billie Jo Powers of Poughkeepsie and Leon E. Joubert Jr. and his wife, Wendy, of Davenport. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Crystal, Steven, Richard, Kimberley Judd, Barbara-Ann, Amanda, James Flannery, Jessica and Evan Sawyer, Kassidy Joubert, Katrina, Shane Joubert, Micheline, Dionna, Shamira and Stanley Powers. His brothers and sisters, Mark, Marie, Donald, Roger Landry, all of the Springfield., Mass., area, Kathy Godbout of Meridian, Conn. Several nieces, nephews and dear friends and his faithful dog, Sassy.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Wayne E. Darrah

UTICA — Wayne E. Darrah, 62, of Utica passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at his home.

He was born June 21, 1940, the son of Ross and Marjorie (Vaughn) Darrah.

After graduation from Oneonta High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force. A graduate of Delhi College, he worked for Metropolitan Life in Utica for 10 years. He retired in June 2002 after 20 years as an investigator for Oneida County Department of Social Services.

He was a life member of the VFW, the American Legion and the NRA.

He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Darrah Hubler of Oneonta; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Kathleen Darrah of Norwich and Larry and DJ Hubler of Fairport. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Seth Darrah, Chad Darrah, Karin Meyer, Stacy Darrah, Randy Hubler and Chip Hubler; and nine great-nieces and nephews. He leaves many friends in Utica, especially Tony and Henry, and his friends at the Courtview and the Department of Social Services.

He was predeceased by his father, Ross Darrah, and his stepfather, Grip Hubler.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Calling hours will be offered on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Oneonta Plains Cemetery, in care of Pat Odell, Hemlock Road, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820 in loving memory of Wayne E. Darrah.

Patricia Morrell

AMSTERDAM — Patricia Tucci Morrell, 81, of Amsterdam died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Lilly, Pa., and raised in Cooperstown, the daughter of Antonio and Josephine (Iapalucci) Tucci.

She was a graduate of Cooperstown High School and Amsterdam City Hospital School of Nursing.

She was also a veteran of World War II where she served as a nurse and officer in the U.S. Army, stationed in England.

She was married on July 14, 1946, to Robert L. Morrell of Amsterdam. He survives.

Patricia was a registered nurse and employed at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital and did private duty nursing until she retired.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; her son, Paul Morrell and his wife, Linda, of Amsterdam; son, David and his fiancee, Robin Piszczatowski of Glen Cove; grandchildren, Joshua Morrell, Rochester, Molly Morrell, Boston, Mass., Matthew Morrell and Benjamin Morrell, Northport; sister, Anita (Nettie) Tucci Traver; brother-in-law, Douglas Traver of Ponce Inlet, Fla.; sister, Helen Tucci Frankl; brother-in-law, John Frankl of Oneonta; several nieces, nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; brothers, Lawrence Tucci, Ralph Tucci and Robert Tucci; sisters, Carmita Tucci Leo, Irene Tucci Gannicelli, Jean Tucci Delaney, Mary Tucci Van Valkenburg and Shirley Tucci Holland.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling period from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at DeStefano's Funeral Home, Route 5, Amsterdam.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John Street, Amsterdam.

Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Patricia Morrell to Hospice of Amsterdam.

Nancy L. Doyle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Nancy L. Doyle, 65, of Jacksonville, Fla., died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla.

She was born May 29, 1937, in Harpursville, N.Y., the daughter of the late Anthony and Hilda Smith Villecco.

On Sept. 21, 1957, she married Hugh Doyle.

Nancy was a longtime resident of Sidney, N.Y., until 1983, when she relocated to Jacksonville, Fla., with the Bendix Corp. Nancy was a secretary for several years with the Bendix Corp. in Sidney and retired from Unison Ind., as a secretary to the company's president.

She is survived by husband, Hugh Doyle of Jacksonville, Fla.; two cousins, Harrison K. Smith of Sidney and Laurel N. Schrull of Shelby, Ala.; three aunts, Lucille Rhodes of Port Crane, N.Y., Mary Ulbright of Binghamton, N.Y., and Congetta Weeks of Binghamton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Arlene Doyle of Sidney; and several other cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, Jan. 14, 2003, in Jacksonville, Fla.

A local memorial service will be held in Sidney in late spring, a date and time to be announced. Burial will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Memorial gifts in Nancy's name may be directed to the United Methodist Church Music Fund, 12 Liberty St., Sidney, NY 13838 or to the Sidney Emergency Squad, River Street, Sidney, NY 13838.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Louis J. Utter

MOUNT UPTON — Louis J. Utter, a resident at The Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, Sidney, and formerly of 118 High Bridge Road, Mount Upton, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Jan. 8, 2003, in Sidney.

He was born July 2, 1909, in Guilford, the son of the late Fred C. and Nellie Briant Utter.

On Sept. 5, 1936, he married Helen Fagan in Endicott.

Louis graduated from the Mount Upton Schools Class of 1930.

From 1937 until 1967 Mr. and Mrs. Utter operated a dairy farm in Mount Upton. For more than 20 years, he was a school bus driver for Mount Upton Schools. The Sidney Central School employed him from 1967 until his retirement in 1972.

Mr. Utter was a former member of the Borden Hose Company of the Mount Upton Fire Department. He was a charter member of the Mount Upton Lions Club.

He is survived by wife of 66 years, Helen M. Utter of Mount Upton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Dottie Utter of Unadilla and Dale and Cindy Utter of Piedmont, S.D.; three daughters and son-in-law, Lois and John McConnell of Mount Upton, Joyce Norris of Mount Upton and Marlene Utter of Mount Upton; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Lester Utter, and his son-in-law, Charles B. Norris, predeceased him.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Mary Ann Linder, pastor of the Mount Upton United Methodist Church and the Rockdale Community Church, officiating.

Friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton, in the spring.

Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Rockdale Community Church or to the Mount Upton Fire Department and Emergency Squad.

Robert E. Beken

LAURENS — Robert E. Beken, 70, of Laurens passed away unexpectedly at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003.

He was born July 23, 1932, in Delhi, the son of Edward E. and Laura (Gavett) Beken.

He married Eleanor "Norrie" Strahan on Aug. 10, 1952, in Poughkeepsie.

Bob was a graduate of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army where he served from 1955 to 1957. Following his discharge from the Army, he went to work for Gulf Oil Company, where he was a credit manager from 1959 to 1985. After retirement, he worked for four years with the Keith Clark Company in Sidney.

Bob was a member of St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, and was active in its Young at Hearts, Food Pantry and Hospitality programs.

For the past 11 years, he was very much involved the with Habitat for Humanity program, and served its local affiliate as president. He was also a former member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor "Norrie" Beken, of Laurens; his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Philip Ward of Laurens; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and John Adams of South Kortright, and Ella Mae Benson of Penfield; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in the spring in the Bloomville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Otsego County, P.O. Box 34, Oneonta, NY 13820, or the Laurens Emergency Squad, Laurens, NY 13796.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Wilburt R. Snyder

FRANKLIN — Wilburt R. Snyder, 82, of Franklin went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

He was born on Nov. 12, 1920, in West Nyack, the son of Arthur and Evelyn (Braun) Snyder.

He was married to Jennette Westphal. She predeceased him in 1982.

For many years he was a resident and an excavating contractor in Nanuet. He was a former resident of Walton and the last few years he made his home in Franklin.

He was a member of the Sidney Assembly of God Church.

Wilburt is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Connie Snyder of Franklin and Ronald and Sue Snyder of Laconia, N.H.; his daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Allen Erickson of Sidney; his brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Betty Snyder of Franklin; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Kurt Erickson.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at the Sidney Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Randall Eliason, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be later in Walton Cemetery in Walton. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Assembly of God Church for the Missions Outreach, Plankenhorn Road, Sidney, NY 13838.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla.

Rose Edick

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Rose Edick, age 79, of 104 North  Washington St., Herkimer, formerly of Canadarago Street, Richfield Springs, passed away on Tuesday morning, Jan. 7, 2003, in Little Falls Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1923, in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late Antonio and Elizabeth Famulare Vertucci. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.

On April 13, 1957, she married Kenneth A. Edick in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. A loving union of 25 years. Mr. Edick died on May 3, 1982.

Mrs. Edick took much pride in her home and family. She had a strong belief in God and lived a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, where she belonged to the Catholic Women's Club and the Altar Rosary Society.

She will be deeply missed by many, especially her family.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth A. Edick Jr. of Utah; two brothers, Frederick Vertucci of Richfield Springs and James Vertucci of Stone Ridge; three sisters, Margaret Lasher of Weaverville, N.C., and Theresa Oakes and Anna Edick, both of Richfield Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Kenneth, two brothers, Anthony and Joseph Vertucci, and three sisters, Mary Brown, Grace Avery, and Elizabeth Lyons, preceded her in death.

Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terrance Healey officiating.

Mrs. Edick will be laid to rest in St. Joseph's Cemetery later this spring.

The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Vertucci Scholarship Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Gustav Skrzyneki

SYRACUSE — Gustav P. Skrzyneki, 53, most recently of Syracuse, and formerly of the Oneonta area, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 21, 1949, in Stamford, the son of Gustav A. and Arzelia "Faye" (Kelsey) Skrzyneki.

He owned and operated a used-car business in Oneonta for several years. Gus will be remembered for his love of cars, especially antique cars and machinery.

He is survived by his son, Sean Kingsbury of Oneonta; two brothers, Michael Skrzyneki of Moundsville, W.Va., and Charles Chase of Morris; and a cousin, Dwight A. Kelsey of Davenport.

His parents predeceased him; a daughter, Ann E. Skrzyneki; and a son, Gustav Paul Skrzyneki, also predeceased him.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Mel Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home from noon until 2 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 in Gus's memory.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.
