Donald E. Hayes

FREDONIA: Donald E. Hayes, age 64, of Chautauqua Street, Fredonia, formerly of Forestville died at ( 5:44 P.M.) Friday, March 28, 2003 in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk.
Mr. Hayes was born December 22, 1938 in Buffalo the son of the late Earland and Florence (Gardner) Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was a retired tow motor operator having worked for the former True Temper Corp. of Dunkirk retiring in 1986 after 28 years of service. He was a graduate of Forestville Central School class of 1956. Mr. Hayes loved animals and enjoyed reading.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen (Mott) Hayes of Fredonia, 2 daughters Mrs. Mark (Valerie) Lis of Portland and Julie  Jackson of North East, Pa., and 1 sister Elaine Hayes Frederickson of Dunkirk. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
There will be no visitation observed. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made either to the Lake Shore Humane Society, P.O. Box 12, Fredonia, NY 14063 or the Darwin R. Barker Library Association, 7 Day Street, Fredonia, NY 14063. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.

Carolyn H. VanAusdall

SHERIDAN: Carolyn H. VanAusdall, age 71, of Rt. 20, Sheridan, died at (10:35 P.M.) Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at her residence, following a short illness.
Mrs. VanAusdall was born February 16, 1931 in Jamestown, NY the daughter of the late Merton and Lura (Skinner) Harwood.
Mrs. VanAusdall was a class of 1948 graduate of East High School in Erie, PA, had worked for the former St. Joseph's School for Exceptional Children in Fredonia from 1967-1970. She was a member of the Sheridan Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and was a member and secretary of the Sheridan Memorial Field Association and she also enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles and family.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Mrs. John (Julie) Szumigala of Sheridan, Mrs. John (Anne) Pietrkiewicz of Memphis, TN, Mrs. Francis (Darcy) Goodrich of Sheridan and Ms. Tina Dingledy of Chapel Hill, NC, 2 sisters Dolores Thompson of North Carolina and Mrs. Delos (Molly) Cozad of  Texas, 2 brothers Jon Harwood of Tennessee and Stephen Harwood of Corry, PA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband John "Jack" VanAusdall, Jr., whom she married in August of 1954 and who died on May 21, 1998.
There will be no visitation observed. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Sheridan Center Cemetery, Town of Sheridan. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made to HOSPICE Chautauqua County, Inc., 4840 West Lake Road, Mayville, NY 14757. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, NY.

Faun Pattyson Riley

SILVER CREEK: Faun Pattyson Riley, age 83, a resident of St. Columban’s On The Lake Retirement Home, Silver Creek, formerly of Kenmore, New York died unexpectedly, at (5:05 P.M.) Sunday, March 9, 2003 at her residence.
Mrs. Riley was born May 7, 1919 in Silver Creek, the daughter of the late Jay and Jennie (Rutherford) Pattyson.
Mrs. Riley was a former member of the DAR.
Survivors include 3 sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Eberhardt of Buffalo, Mrs. Daphne Jean Andrews of Coquille, Oregon, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Coon of Fredonia, 1 brother Gilbert Pattyson of Rogers, Arkansas. Also surviving are 10 beloved nieces & nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Riley, by 3 sisters, Arleen Pattyson, Izora Pattyson, Francella Pattyson Widmer and by a brother Wesley J. Pattyson.
There will be no visitation observed.
Memorial services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Chapel of St. Columban’s On The Lake Retirement Home, Silver Creek, with the Rev. Peter Cronin, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to the St. Columban's On The Lake Retirement Home, 2546 East Lake Road, Silver Creek, NY 14136 or to the Francella Pattyson Widmer Memorial Scholarship Fund, Fredonia College Foundation, SUNY Fredonia. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.

Myrtle P. Schroeder

FORESTVILLE: Myrtle P. Schroeder, age 84, of Walnut Creek Road, Forestville, died at (5:15 A.M.) Monday, March 17, 2003 in TLC/Health Network-Lake Shore Hospital, Irving.
Mrs. Schroeder was born March 1, 1919 in the Town of Arkwright, New York the daughter of the late Albert Palmer and Velma (Ball) Palmer Odronic a resident of the TLC/Health Network-Nursing Facility, Irving.
Mrs. Schroeder was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dunkirk, a member of the Major Benjamin Prescott DAR Chapter, Fredonia, was a graduate of Forestville High School class of 1938 and was a past member of the former Arkwright Grange #1249.
Surviving besides her mother are 2 daughters Mrs. Edward (Carol) Crecraft and Mrs. James (Janice) Rundell both of Forestville, 1 son Phillip H. (Kathy) Schroeder of Clermont, Florida. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her father she was predeceased by her husband Albert A.C. Schroeder whom she married November 27, 1937 in the Town of Arkwright and who died December 8, 1998, by her step- father Vincent Odronic who died September 14, 1974, by a son Donald R. Schroeder and by a grandson Dale R. Crecraft.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville with the Rev Wesley L. Hamlin pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown, officiating. Burial will follow in the Arkwright Summit Cemetery, Town of Arkwright. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to the Forestville Fire Department Emergency & Rescue Squad or Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dunkirk.

Amelia “Tootsie” M. Valentine

DUNKIRK: Amelia “Tootsie” M. Valentine, age 84, a resident of the Chautauqua County Home, Dunkirk, formerly of Rt. 39 Forestville died peacefully at ( 3:30 A.M.) Sunday, March 30, 2003 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Valentine was born July 31, 1918 in the Town of Sheridan the daughter of the late Angelo and Anna (Parillo) Desko.
Mrs. Valentine was a lifelong Chautauqua County resident and spent her childhood in Silver Creek. She was a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek and a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville. She will be remembered as a wonderful loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved cooking and taking care of her family.
Survivors include 2 sons Meredith “Zeke” Valentine of Fredonia, David N. (Lois) Valentine of Forestville, 2 daughters Bonnie Valentine and Mrs. John (Joyce) Teach, III both of East Aurora. Also surviving are 2 sisters Mary  Jones of Santa Monica, California and Mrs. Andrew (Ruth) Montare of Silver Creek, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her granddaughter Lisa Van Curen Naples. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Loren A. Valentine, whom she married on November 14, 1942, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek and who died August 10, 1994, by 2 daughters Roxanne Luther who died February 13, 1991 and Cynthia Stoll who died June 23, 2000, by 2 brothers Peter Desko and Carl Desko and by 2 sisters Joanne Valentine and Althea Town, by twin grandsons Richard and Raymond Valentine and by twin infant brothers.
Prayer services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:15 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 o’clock from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek with the Rev. John Mitka, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7-9 p.m.. and on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to the American Cancer Society or HOSPICE Chautauqua County, 4840 West Lake Road, Mayville, NY 14757.

Mary Jane Waligora

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL: Mary Jane Waligora, age 82, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida formerly of Buffalo and Forestville died at (1:30 P.M..) Wednesday, March 12, 2003 in Hollywood Medical Center, Hollywood, Florida following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Waligora was born January 7, 1921 in Waynesville, North Carolina the daughter of the late Joseph and Francis (Jenkins) Evans.
Mrs. Waligora was the co-owner of Sparks Electric, Buffalo with her late husband Bronislaus Waligora whom she married August 13, 1943 in St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and who died October 1, 1972. She was a member of the Salvation Army Women's Home League, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and had attended the Sheridan Hills Baptist Church, Hollywood, Florida. Mrs. Waligora was a graduate of Hazelwood High School, Waynesville, North Carolina.
Survivors include 4 sons, Gerald Waligora of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Timothy (Anne) Waligora of Buffalo, Jeffrey (Pok Sun) Waligora of Milwaukee, Oregon and Rodney (Michele) Waligora of Hollywood, Florida. Also surviving is 1 sister Louise McCuen of Gray, Kentucky, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents & husband, she was predeceased by a son Leonard Waligora who died January 4, 1989.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Forestville, New York. The family suggests memorials in her memory may be made either to Southeast Focal Point, Attn: Bessie, 3081 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida 33021 or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville, NY. Burial was in the Forestville Cemetery.

Shirley "Tia" M. Livsey

FORESTVILLE: Shirley "Tia" M. Livsey, age 67, of Water Street died at (2:56 P.M.) Sunday, June 22, 2003 in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a lengthy illness.
Miss Livsey was born April 6, 1936 in Lackawanna the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (Tobias) Livsey.
Miss Livsey attended Lackawanna High School. She had worked for the former Al Green Enterprises of Lackawanna and in the accounting Dept. for Ford Motor Company, Lackawanna. In more recent years she had worked as an assembler for Gowanda Electronics and for New York State as a wing operator and a toll taker for the New York State Thruway Authority. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville. Miss Livsey was a past president of the former Forestville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was an avid bingo player and enjoyed doing word searches.
Survivors include 1 sister Patricia Zittel of Springville, a God-son John E. Szydlo of Dunkirk, 3 nieces Mrs. John (Susan) Szydlo of Dunkirk, Terry Williams of Brocton, and Debra Huey of Atlantic City, NJ and a great nephew Michael P. Szydlo of Dunkirk. Also surviving are several half-brothers, half- sisters, several nieces and nephews and several great nieces & nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by 2 sisters Alice Moulton and Peggy Brose and by 2 brothers Joseph and James Livsey.
Prayer services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 o’clock from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville with the Rev. Gerald P. Sheehan pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made to the Forestville Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad.

Bruce W. Horn

BROCTON: Bruce W. Horn, age 72, of Redwood Drive, Brocton, formerly of Derby, NY, died at (2:15 A.M.) Saturday, December 6, 2003, at the Waters of Westfield following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Horn was born June 13, 1931 in Buffalo the son of the late William and Ina May (Patterson) Horn.
Mr. Horn was a retired machinist having worked for ITT Standard of Cheektowaga for 27 years. He was a US Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife Betty (Hoak) Horn of Brocton, 1 son William (Laurie) Horn of Westfield and 2 grandchildren Barbara Horn & Jason Horn both of Westfield.
There will be no visitation observed. Memorial services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 o’clock from the Brocton Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Morrison pastor, officiating. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made either to HOSPICE Chautauqua County , 4840 West Lake Road, Mayville, NY 14757, or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by the Riles & Wolley Funeral Home, Forestville.

Stephania T. Szumigala

DUNKIRK: Stephania T. Szumigala, age 93, a resident of the Waters of Dunkirk, formerly of Sheridan died at (9:15 P.M.) Monday, July 28, 2003 in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Szumigala was born April 1, 1910 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Leon and Mary (Lagocki) Rusnaczyk.
Mrs. Szumigala was a member of St. John Bosco RC Church, Sheridan. At one time she worked for the former New York Telephone and Telegraph Co. as an operator having worked in both Rochester and Buffalo, NY. For many years she and her late husband, Joseph Szumigala, whom she married Jan. 14, 1928 in St. Hedwig's, Dunkirk and who died February 19, 1980, owned and operated a dairy farm on Center Road, Sheridan. Mrs. Szumigala was a member of the Sheridan Happy Seniors and a former member of the Pioneer Social Club, Forestville. She loved her family and animals.
Surviving are 2 daughters Mrs. Theresa Graff of Sheridan, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Hopf of Leesburg, Florida, 4 sons Joseph L. Szumigala of Arcade, NY, Adrian Szumigala of Fredonia, David Szumigala of Fredonia and Timothy Szumigala of Seminole, Florida. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a daughter Stephanie Gula who died in May of 2002, by 2 sisters Valeria Dolce and Natalie Nowak, by 2 brothers Leonard Russ and Alfonzo Russ and by an infant brother Adrian Rusnaczyk.
A Prayer service will be held Friday Morning at 9:15 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o’clock from St. John Bosco RC Church, Sheridan, with the Rev. Gerald P. Sheehan pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Town of Sheridan. Friends may call at the funeral home, on Wednesday, from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the funeral home. William C. Nelson

STOCKTON: William C. Nelson age 96 a resident of TLC/HN-Lakeshore Nursing Home, formerly of Robertsdale, Alabama, Allegany, NY and Forestville, died September 14, 2003 at (9:35 AM), at his residence following a short illness. Mr. Nelson was born August 24, 1907 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of the late William H. Nelson and Vivian Anderson.
Mr. Nelson had at one time worked in the oil fields in Chipmunk, NY, then he owned & operated a dairy & beef farm in the Town of Villenova and worked as an electrician for the former Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corp. of Dunkirk. He also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife Anna Mae (Ort) Nelson of Stockton, whom he married on Sept. 17, 1933 in Limestone, NY, 2 daughters Mrs. Richard (Barbara J.) Wise, of South Dayton and Mrs. Rodney (Beverly A.) Case, of Canton, NC. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by twin infant great granddaughters and a step-brother Ted Schuller.
There will be no visitation observed. A memorial service will be held at a later date from the Hamlet United Methodist Church. Time and date to be announced.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 o’clock in Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, NY. Memorials in his memory may be made to the Stockton Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.

Helen Frank

GOWANDA: Helen Frank, age 95, a resident of Gowanda Nursing Home, formerly of Buffalo, died at (2:22 A.M.) Sunday, February 8, 2004 at TLC/HN Lake Shore Hospital, Irving,
Miss Frank was born March 19, 1908 in Germany. There are no known survivors.
There will be no prior visitation observed. Graveside services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 o’clock from Cowden's Corners Cemetery, Town of Arkwright.

Beulah A. Anderson

FREDONIA: Beulah A. Anderson, age 89, died at (3:00 A.M.) Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the home of her grandson on Woodward Drive, Fredonia, following a short illness.
Mrs. Anderson was born November 25, 1914 in the Town of Dayton, the daughter of the late Raymond and Mable (Brisley) Frost.
Mrs. Anderson and her late husband LeRoy Anderson who died July 27, 1991, owned and operated the former Anderson Oil Co., Irving for many years. She was a former member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Irving, had attended Gage Chapel Community Church, Smith Mills, and was a former member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #89, Dunkirk. Mrs. Anderson was always interested in her family’s lives and enjoyed driving her car.
Survivors include 1 daughter Joan Ludemann of Fredonia, 1 brother Ernest Frost of Sugar Hill, Georgia. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren Lester Ludemann, Jr. of Cassadaga, David Ludemann and Richard Ludemann both of Fredonia, James Ludemann of Delmar, Delaware and Susan Ludemann of Silver Creek, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a grandson Stephen Ludemann, by 2 great grandchildren Matthew Ludemann and Nicole Ludemann, by 3 brothers Lester Frost, Sr., Roy Frost and Louie Hall and by a sister Betty Deering.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Daniel Rutenber pastor of the Gage Chapel Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Silver Creek. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to HOSPICE Chautauqua County, Inc., 4840 West Lake Road, Mayville, NY 14757 or to the Fredonia Fire Department.

Mary C. Ruttenbur

IRVING: Mary C. Ruttenbur, age 93 of Versailles Road, Irving, died Friday, November 14th, 2008 at TLC/HN-Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, following a short illness. She was born in the Town of Hanover on January 22, 1915, the daughter of the late Ralph and Pearl (Roberts) Waterman. Mrs. Ruttenbur was a graduate of Forestville High School, Class of 1935, worked as a Dietary Attendant for the former JN Adam Developmental Center, Perrysburg, retiring in 1975 after 25 years of service and was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church, Versailles, NY, where she belonged to the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed crafts, loved animals and was very involved with her family. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) McCoy of Irving, Pearl Donovan of Silver Creek, a son Paul (Mary) Ruttenbur of Stanley, NC and a step brother Charles Brunson of Florida. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her step mother Ruth (Tarbox) Waterman, by her husband Charles S. Ruttenbur, whom she married April 11, 1936 in the Village of Forestville and who died March 11, 1975, by a daughter Barbara Ann Ruttenbur, by a son Maurice Cloud, by a granddaughter Cynthia McCoy, by 2 brothers Leigh Waterman and Emory Waterman, by a step sister Norma Bolivard & by a step brother Walter Brunson. Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, from where funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock, with Rev. Pamela Newton, associate pastor of Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Town of Hanover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Charity of one's choice.

Margaret C. Crowell

IRVING: Margaret C. Crowell, age 82, a resident of TLC/HN-Nursing Facility, Irving, formerly of Creek Road, Forestville, died Thursday, November 27th, 2008 peacefully at her residence. She was born in Silver Creek on July 31, 1926, the daughter of the late Philip and Myrtle (Fischer) Clees. Mrs. Crowell was a graduate of Silver Creek High School and she and her late husband Ernest L. Crowell, who died December 9, 1995, owned & operated the former Forest Lanes, Forestville, for 9 years. Mrs. Crowell was a 50 year member of the J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953 Ladies Auxiliary, Forestville, was a member of the Forestville United Methodist Church, a former member of the Grape Bunch of Chautauqua County Family Campers & RVers, a past member of the former Country Gals Home Bureau and a former member of the Pioneer Social Club, Forestville. She was a dedicated mother & grandmother who enjoyed reading & especially enjoyed the holidays. Survivors include three daughters Janice (Charles) Stott, Judy (James) Young, Julie (Daniel) Gornikiewicz all of Forestville, two sons John (Gwen) Crowell and Jeffrey (Lisa) Crowell both of Murfreesboro, TN. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Darrin Stott, Mark Stott, Daniel Gornikiewicz, Jr., Adam Gornikiewicz, Howard Crowell, Courtney Crowell & Morgan Crowell, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents & husband she was predeceased by 3 sisters Marion Hornburg, Phyllis J. Richardson, Elizabeth Duff and by 2 brothers Richard & Howard Clees. Friends are welcome to call at the Forestville United Methodist Church, Park Street, Forestville on Saturday December 27th from 10 -11 am from where memorial services will be held at 11 o'clock, with Pastor Rebecca Ward officiating. Private Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery, Silver Creek.
