Barbara Hannigan

SCHENEVUS — Barbara B. Hannigan, 85, of Schenevus, and a part-time resident of Zephyrhills, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Fla.

Barb was born March 30, 1917, in Michigan, the daughter of the late Robert and Iva (Spence) Bettine. Barb grew up in the town of Glen, and was a graduate of Fonda High School.

She married William E. Hannigan on Sept. 19, 1959, in Dumont, N.J. He predeceased her on Dec. 23, 1997.

At one time Barb worked for the Glove Shop in Schenevus, Earl Salsbury Insurance in Maryland, the Schenevus Hotel and was a retired U.S. Postal Service Clerk in Schenevus.

Barb was an active member of the Wiaontha Rebekah Lodge No. 489 in Schenevus, serving as Past Inside Guardian for the Rebekah Assembly, Past Noble Grand, Past District Deputy and treasurer for many years. She had also been the secretary and treasurer of the Schenevus Cemetery Association for 27 years.

She is survived by a foster brother, Sonny DeYoung of Massachusetts; a foster sister, Justine Whitney of New Hampshire; several cousins and many good friends.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus.

A graveside service will be in Schenevus Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 County Highway 34, Schenevus, NY 12155.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Hilda Storey

MARGARETVILLE — Hilda M. Storey, 87, a longtime resident of the Millbrook Valley, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi, where she had been a resident for the past six years.

She was born on Jan. 18, 1916, the daughter of Samuel and Julia Allison Delameter. She married Clyde Storey in 1933. He predeceased her in 1954.

Hilda and her brother, Charles Delameter, operated the Delameter farm until his death in 1974. At that time she sold the cows and kept the farm until she moved to Countryside Care Center.

She enjoyed working with flowers and gardening.

Surviving are her seven children, Arlene and Herman More of DeLancey, Elinor Mason of Delhi, Thomas Storey of DeLancey, Arleta Jenkins of Margaretville, Gloria and Herman Lamoreaux of Swan Lake, Gilbert and Ruth Storey of Margaretville and Robert and Carolyn Storey of the Millbrook Valley; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her brother and sister and two grandchildren predeceased her.

At Hilda's request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Thomas H. Mulroy

PITTSFIELD — Thomas H. Mulroy, 73, of Pittsfield, died Jan. 20, 2003, in Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Brooklyn, to Wilbur C. and Mary T. McGrath Mulroy.

Thomas was a retired printer and a Korean War Army veteran having served overseas in Japan.

He loved spending time with his cat and dogs and taking them for walks.

Thomas was a kind and gentle person and much beloved by the hospital staff that helped care for him during his stays.

Thomas is survived by a sister, Regina Cossidente of Long Island; a brother, Frank Mulroy of Pittsfield; and two nieces, Linda Pastore and Janet Bates.

Services are private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Koreen Alice Vriesema

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Koreen Alice (Gray) Vriesema age 60 of Little Lakes Road, town of Warren, passed away on Monday afternoon, Jan. 20, 2003, in her home after an extended illness.

She was born on Aug. 31, 1942, in New Berlin, daughter of the late Harold F. and Gertrude Dye Gray.

Koreen was a graduate of West Winfield Central High School "Class of 1960." For many years she worked as a medical transcriber and office manager for an Internal Medicine Practice in Little Falls.

On May 29, 1982, she married John Peter Vriesema in West Exeter.

Koreen attended Herkimer County Community College where she was on the dean's list. She was in the process of completing a Herkimer BOCES Nursing Program when a seven-year battle with breast cancer finally over-took her.

She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church.

Her family remembers her constant love of children, hers and others, her seven grandchildren and the wonderful family gatherings. She was an avid Yankee baseball fan. She loved traveling, whale watching and bird watching.

Surviving besides her loving husband of 20 years, John, are two daughters, Victoria J. Gray Perkins and her partner, James Paulo of Erieville, and Elizabeth A. and her husband, Coy Sawyer of Nokomis, Fla.; four sons, Michael J. Perkins of Richfield Springs, David T. and his wife, Serena A. Perkins of Ilion, Geoffrey S. Perkins of Richfield Springs, and Chief Warrant Officer Karl W. and his wife, Cherry B. Perkins of Holly Springs, N.C.; a sister, Kathleen Harris of Sherburne; three brothers, Thomas W. Gray of Silver Springs, Md., Terry L. Gray of Utica, Richard E. and his wife, Naomi Gray of West Exeter; seven grandchildren, Christopher G. Bellows, Kaitlyn G. Giordano, Noah J. Giordano, Reece T. Perkins, Emily Elizabeth Perkins, Madison T. Perkins, Ryan M. Gause; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

To my dear and lovely wife, Koreen.

"You battled Metastic Breast Cancer for seven years. You never faltered during this time letting us witness what we had come to know as an endearing and life embracing mixture of courage, intelligence and humor, but most of all an open and present kindness and always love. We will miss you."

The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, from 5 until 8 p.m.

Funeral service will take place in the funeral home on Thursday, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Paul Akers, pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating.

Mrs. Vriesema will be laid to rest in the Springfield Center Cemetery later this spring.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care Inc., or Friends of Bassett Koreen Vriesema Fund for Breast Cancer Patients. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Flora Vriesema and many other special friends for all their care and kindness.

Carmen Calcaterra

STAMFORD — Carmen Calcaterra, 77, a longtime resident of Stamford, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Mrs. Calcaterra was born in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Vito and the late Margaret Martoglio Bruno.

Mrs. Calcaterra married Frank Calcaterra on Nov. 16, 1947, in Brooklyn.

Mrs. Calcaterra was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Stamford, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Stamford VFW, American Legion and Bathgate Hospital Auxiliary.

She will be remembered by her loving husband, Frank; her devoted daughter, Margaret Rickett; grandsons, William and Christopher Rickett; several nieces, nephews and cousins; for her constant love of family and dear friends and for her wonderful sense of humor.

Friends may call Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Prayers will be said at the funeral home Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Carmen's life in Sacred Heart RCC, Stamford, with Father Anthony Ligato as the celebrant.

Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart RCC, Stamford and/or Saint Jude's Childrens Hospital.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Paul H. Scobie

De LANCEY — Paul H. Scobie, 72, of 2763 County Hwy. 2, De Lancey, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2003, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

The son of William I. and Bessie A. (Little) Scobie, he was born Aug. 25, 1930, in De Lancey, was a 1948 graduate of Delaware Academy, Delhi, where he was awarded the Outstanding Senior Athlete, and received his formal education at Delhi College. Subsequently (1950), he played third-base in minor league baseball with the Philadelphia "Phillies" in Seaford, Del.

A Korean war veteran, Paul served in the U.S. Marine Corps (1952-54), after which he married Nancy A. Whitlock on Oct. 8, 1955, in The Little  White Church, Conklin.

A lifelong De Lancey resident and fourth-generation farmer, in 1957, he assumed operation of the family dairy, which became a "Century Farm" in 2002.

Paul was a member of the De Lancey United Presbyterian Church and was inducted into the Susquenango Association Section IV Hall of Fame for High School Athletes, an honor he proudly accepted at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in 1993.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Nancy Scobie; two daughters, Robbin Scobie, Oneonta, and Anne Marie Scobie, Walton; a son, Michael (and Carolyn) Scobie, De Lancey; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley, Jennifer, Matthew and Micah Scobie, Arley, Robert and Paul Scofield, Jessica Gutliph; and his mother-in-law, Della Morgan, Delhi.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, Jan 24, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, when the family will be in attendance 7 to 9 p.m., and where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, by the Rev. Bert More, with burial later in the Hamden Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Delhi.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet & Son, Delhi.

Roxyzanne 'Rocky' Wilson

MARGARETVILLE — Roxyzanne (Rocky) Sebastian James Wilson, 40, of Margaretville passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in the Kingston Hospital, Kingston.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1962, in England, the son of Sydney and Pearl (Frith) Wilson.

He worked with his father in the family business, Wilson General Contractor in New York City.

He has lived most of his life in the Margaretville area. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Margaretville. He graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1981, where he was an outstanding athlete, playing soccer, baseball and basketball. He attended Coastal University for three years,  South Carolina.

He is survived by mother and father, Sydney and Pearl Wilson, Margaretville; sister and brother-in-law, Vangelee and Patrick Russell, Brooklyn; nieces and nephew, Allison, Simon, Victoria and Abigal Russell; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Lambert, Margaretville; and aunts and uncles.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at the United Methodist Church, Margaretville, with the Rev. Joon Woo Lee officiating.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Burial in the Margaretville Cemetery at a later date.

Contributions in memory of Rocky Wilson may be made to United Methodist Church, Margaretville, the Athletic Department of Margaretville Central School or the Margaretville Memorial Hospital, Memorial Fund, Margaretville, NY 12455.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Roy Colonna

GILBERTSVILLE — Roy Colonna of Gilbertsville died peacefully early Monday morning, Jan. 20, 2003.

He was a fashion illustrator for Town and Country, Elizabeth Arden and Galey and Lord of New York City, then became a Dada artist who showed at Bodley Gallery before he moved to this area in 1974. Since then he has shown his drawings and paintings in Glimmerglass Gallery and other local galleries.

He is eighth don in Goju karate, ran a dojo in Oneonta and also taught karate and Tai Chi in Cooperstown.

Roy is a Devotee of Ramana Maharshi.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Nields Colonna; his son, John Schuyler Colonna; his daughter, Janine Elder; his son-in-law, Brian Elder; and grandsons, Gareth and Kieran Elder.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Mount Upton.

Contributions in his honor may be made to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad or Arunachala Ashram, 66-12 Clyde St., Rego Park, N.Y. 11374.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Edna M. Hanson

AFTON — Edna M. Hanson, 87, of Afton went with the Angels to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Hanson.

She is survived by her twin daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and Lou Rinker, Afton and Virginia and John Snel, Afton; a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Eileen Hanson, Nineveh; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Marion Aylesworth, Afton.

She was a member of the Nineveh Presbyterian Church, the United Presbyterian Women and the Alice Rebecca Lodge. She was a retired employee of The Hospital in Sidney.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Nineveh Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Douglas Horne, pastor of her church, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home, 69-71 Maple St., Harpursville, on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service in Nineveh Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be in Nineveh Presbyterian Cemetery in the spring.

Ellen E. Dungey

OXFORD — Ellen E. Dungey, 74, of Tamarac Road, Oxford, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 25, 2003, in the Wilson Hospital of  Johnson City from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 12 in Oxford on Jan. 17, 2003.

Born May 28, 1928, in Preston, Ellen was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Mary (Mahan) Donnelly.

On Nov. 23, 1946, in Norwich, she married Charles Victor Dungey, who passed away Feb. 2, 1969.

Ellen spent her entire life in the Preston area and had attended their local schools.

Over the years she had worked for the Dunckel Egg Farm, the Donald MacIntosh Farm and the Lusstanski Farm. Ellen had also worked for many years as a home health-care aide helping many area families care for their own.

Devoted to her family, Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she truly enjoyed. Ellen loved to work in her garden and also enjoyed many outings to go fishing.

Ellen is survived by her companion of 33 years, Delmar Franklin of Oxford; her children, Ronnie Dungey and wife, Diane, of Norwich, Ruth Hart and husband, James, of Norwich, Donna Youngs and husband, Douglas, of Preston, Donald Dungey and wife, Gail, of Wells Bridge, David Dungey and wife, Frances, of Oxford, Sabra Snow of Preston and Douglas Dungey and wife, Peggy, of Preston; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband, Charles Victor Dungey, Ellen was predeceased by a son, Theodore Dungey; her sisters, Edith Fowlston, Cora Stevens and Louise Donnelly; and her brothers, Edward, Franklin, Frederick, Roland, Daniel, Benjamin and Charles Donnelly.

Funeral services for Ellen will be at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Ralph Hinman, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church of Norwich, officiating.

Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Emergency Squad, Oxford, NY 13830 or to one's favorite charity.

Sharon J. Church

ONEONTA — Sharon J. Church of Oneonta died Jan. 24, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Afton on Dec. 22, 1941, to Wallace Lee and Edna Clara Hulburt Babcock. She was raised in the Afton area and married Robert J. Church Sr. in  Johnson City on Aug. 16, 1954. In 1962, they moved to Oneonta.

Sharon worked for the Oneonta School District in the custodial and nutritional fields as well as caring for children and challenged adults in her home after school. She was mainly a homemaker, especially loving children, animals, flowers, traveling and being with friends and family.

Sharon was a very active member of the Southside Wesleyan Church of Oneonta, participating in the choir, Sunday schools and the Women's Missionary Group.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert, on Nov. 11, 1992, and her parents and a brother, Tom Babcock.

Sharon is survived by her five children, Robert J. Church Jr. of Oneonta, Belinda and husband, Derril McDonald, of Ovid, Penny Church of Eugene, Ore., Mike Church of Oneonta, and William Church of Oneonta; three grandchildren, Bethany and Amber McDonald and Zachary Jon Miller; three sisters, Clara Diogastino, Mary Franklin and Lucy Sherpinskas; five brothers, Everett Babcock, Butch Babcock, Skip Babcock, Wally Babcock and Garry Babcock; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were at Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Funeral service will be Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Southside Wesleyan Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Eric Santamont officiating.

Burial will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery in the spring under the direction of Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Memorial donations may be made in Sharon's memory to the Southside Wesleyan Church, 5300 State Highway 23, Oneonta, NY 13820.
