Roy J. Lincourt

CHERRY VALLEY — Roy J. Lincourt Sr., 84, formerly of Wanakena and Lyons, passed away on Friday evening, Jan. 24, 2003, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was a born on June 14, 1918, in Tupper Lake, son of the late Magloire and Rose Coron Lincourt. Roy was raised and educated in Springfield schools.

In 1939, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1941.

On June 28, 1941, he married Angela Indelicato in Auburn, a loving union of 46 years, until her passing on Aug. 18, 1987.

Starting in the 1950s Mr. Lincourt owned and operated a general contracting business in Rochester and Lyons, retiring in 1973.

He had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. He was a member of St. Thomas Church in Cherry Valley.

His leisure time was spent writing poetry, reading and enjoying photography. He was a volunteer for the Cherry Valley Museum.

He was a friend to many and will be truly missed.

Surviving are his son, Roy J. Lincourt Jr., and his wife, Patricia, of Wanakena; a brother, Harold Lincourt of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Eva Oakes of Richfield Springs and Lena Martin of Connecticut; a grandson, John Lincourt of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and his companion, Marian Rich of Cherry Valley.

Besides his parents and wife, Angela, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Francis Lincourt, and a sister, Charlotte Clement.

The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral will be from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Terence Healy officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Auburn.

George B. Mead

WALTON — George B. Mead, age 62, of Walton, died Saturday evening, Jan. 25, 2003, at home after a long illness.

He was born in Margaretville, the son of Bryant and Ruth Ferguson Mead on April 17, 1940.

He was a graduate of Walton High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1969, being stationed in Okinawa.

He was employed as a dairy manager, by Walton Big M, retiring due to illness.

He is survived by five daughters and their husbands, Kim M. and Bill Gregory of Walton, Teresa A. and Pete Holt of  South Carolina, Holly J. Mead of  Pennsylvania, Cindy L. and Robert Boecke of Walton and Tina M. and Bill Picinich of Walton; three sons and their wives, Bryan R. Mead of Walton, Kevin M. and Amy Mead of  Pennsylvania and Eric S. and Michelle Mead of Florida; one sister, Betty Zimmerman of Florida; 16 grandchildren; one nephew and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Jeff S. Mead, in 1988.

Friends may call Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. James Martin, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, Walton, officiating.

Burial will be in Walton Cemetery in the spring.

Contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

William Frey

PHOENIX, Ariz. — William Frey, 95, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at The Arbors of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Frey.

He is survived by four daughters, Joan  Woods and her husband, George, of Dalton, Ga., Peg Helt of Endicott, N.Y., Marion Lowry and her husband, John, of Phoenix, and Anne Ward and her husband, Bruce, of Oneonta, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

Bill was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Endicott, a member of the East Orange, N.J., Knights of Columbus, a retired employee of Scintilla, Sidney, N.Y., and a member of the Wells Bridge Fire Department, Wells Bridge, N.Y. He was also an avid bowler.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main St., Endicott, followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to FCCLA Memorial Fund or the charity of one's choice.

Elizabeth Youngs

ONEONTA — Elizabeth B. Youngs, "Betty," 80, of Oneonta and formerly of Saugerties and Greenville, passed away at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta on Jan. 25, 2003.

She was born in New York City on Nov. 26, 1922, daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Gleason) Carelas.

Betty and her husband, Robert Youngs Sr., had formerly operated the World Top Acres Resort and Young's Steak House in Greenville. Robert passed away in 1976.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Youngs Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Cobleskill and William Youngs and his wife, Adele, of Oneonta; six grandchildren, Michael and Kevin of Cobleskill and Caitlin, Hayley, Dylan and Conor of Oneonta.

She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 state Route 81, Greenville. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Saugerties.

Those who desire may contribute in her memory to the Auriesville Shrine, Auriesville, NY 12016.

Jane S. Hess

ONEONTA — Jane S. Hess, 83, of Oneonta, died unexpectedly Jan. 26, 2003, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Oneonta, the daughter of Elbert and Hazel (Crawford) Sexton.

She married Lawrence Hess on April 20, 1937, in Oneonta. Mr. Hess died Oct. 12, 1979.

Mrs. Hess was a housewife and a former employee of Bendix Corp. in Sidney.

She was a lifelong area resident and a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church and the Women of the Moose.

She enjoyed working with arts and crafts and was particularly fond of ceramics.

Mrs. Hess is survived by two sons, Wayne and his wife, Frances Hess, of Laurens and Brian and his wife, Gail, of Oneonta; one daughter, Linda and her husband, George Starley of West Windsor; six grandchildren, Bryn and Gavin Hess, Joseph and Brian Hess and Brad and Kyle Starley; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Edith Lawton.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to service time, when the family will be in attendance. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be later in the Plains Cemetery.

Those who wish may make contributions to the Plains Cemetery Association.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home.

Dora Neidig

ONEONTA — Dora Neidig, 87, of Oneonta, formerly of Margaretville, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born on Nov. 7, 1915, in Willowemoc, the daughter of Barney and Dora (Clute) Bivins.

Dora was raised in Willowemoc and later lived in Union Grove, until the construction of the Pepacton Reservoir. She then resided in Margaretville, where she worked for the Kass Inn Resort for 40 years.

Dora loved the outdoors activities, including berry picking, fishing and ginseng hunting. Her special time was spent with her family.

Dora is survived by one daughter, Barbara Pugliese, Oneonta; one brother, Kenneth Bivins, Willowemoc; three grandchildren, Darlene Fairbairn, Oneonta, Victor Fairbairn, Dunraven, and Jeffrey J. Fairbairn, Avalon,  Calif.; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Hynes Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. R. L. Donahue officiating.

Burial will be in Margaretville Cemetery at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Albert H. Brandenburg

FRANKLIN — Albert H. Brandenburg, 84, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at his home.

He was born Dec. 12, 1918, in New York City, the son of Paul and Marie (Alber) Brandenburg Sr.

He married AnnaBelle Darling on Sept. 13, 1955, in Andes.

After graduating from Delaware Academy and then Delhi College, he served in the United States Air Force during World War II.

Albert worked as a light maintenance foreman for the New York State Department of Transportation for 221/2 years, retiring in 1980. He then worked for Green Thumb Environmental Beautification Inc. in Stamford for 17 years. He was also a member of the CSEA Union.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, AnnaBelle Brandenburg, of Franklin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Terri Brandenburg, who passed away in 1963; three brothers, Paul Jr., Bert and Monty Brandenburg; and three sisters, Marie Kytan, Agnes Stanton and Dorothy Bell.

Friends may call on Tuesday evening at the Bookhout Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m., at which time the family will be in attendance.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Stephen Fournier, pastor of the Milford Center Community Bible Church, officiating.

Burial will take place this spring in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Edward A. Ward

FRANKLIN — Edward A. Ward, 85, most recently of  Johnson City and formerly of Franklin, passed away on Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the James G. Johnston Nursing Facility in  Johnson City.

He was born March 2, 1917, in Oneonta, the son of James G. and Luella (VanTassel) Ward.

He married Gladys Stockhamer on April 5, 1941, in Rutherford, N.J.

Mr. Ward retired from SUNY Oneonta as a stationary engineer in 1983. Prior to that he was a Westinghouse dealer in Franklin.

He was a member of the Franklin Community Bible Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys Ward, of  Johnson City; his children and their spouses, Judy Cronk of Bonita Springs, Fla., Walton, Barbara and Raymond Weed of Schuylerville and Gail and Arch Welter of  Johnson City; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Howard D. Cronk; and five brothers.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Walter Schlundt, pastor of the Franklin Community Bible Church, officiating.

Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin.

Memorial contributions may be made to James G. Johnston Campus, 286 Deyo Hill Road,  Johnson City, N.Y. 13790.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Ruth M. Krobetzky

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Ruth M. Krobetzky, 74, of Richfield Springs, died Jan. 24, 2003, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, in the loving company of family, following a long illness.

Born in Mount Vernon on July 9, 1928, she was the daughter of Emerson Virden Sr. and Louise Burker Virden.

She was the widow of Henry Kessler Krobetzky, retired Larchmont Police Sergeant.

She was a graduate of Ardsley High School and attended Mary  Washington College and SUNY Cobleskill.

She was the first Parking Enforcement Officer in Larchmont; retiring after 10 years service. For 24 years she owned and operated Windy Acres Greenhouse in Richfield Springs, retiring in 2002. She also worked for Glimmerglass Courier Service in Cooperstown. For several years she served as Deputy Town Clerk in Richfield, as well as Town Constable.

She was Past President of the Richfield Springs Garden and Lioness Clubs and Past Chair of the Town of Richfield Democratic Committee. She was a member of Keepers of the Circle in Rotterdam Junction. Ruth was the driving force behind Santa Anonymous in Richfield Springs.

Survivors include her son, Henry L. Krobetzky and his wife, Lois, of Peekskill; daughter, Marie L. Lynch-Gaylord and her husband, Donald Gaylord, of Schenectady; her grandchildren, Loralynne Krobetzky of Schenectady, Debralee and Devon James Krobetzky of Peekskill; her brother; Emerson Virden Jr., and his wife, Barbara, of Blue Bell, Pa.; her adopted family, the Crafts, of Richfield Springs; her beloved Golden Retriever, Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Michael Lynch and Harper Gaylord.

There will be a memorial service/celebration of her life, followed by a sharing supper, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at the Church of Christ United in Richfield Springs.

Contributions may be made to Santa Anonymous, in care of the Richfield Springs Lioness Club.

William Frey

Lee B. Chase

EDMESTON — Lee B. Chase of Edmeston went to be with Jesus on Jan. 28, 2003.

He was born March 30, 1924, in Edmeston, the son of Herbert L. and Bessie (Burton) Chase.

He married Dorene Campanello on Aug. 20, 1988.

Lee was a member of the Faith Chapel in Bridgewater. He served in the United States Navy, Marine Division during World War II. He was a proud member of the Wharton Valley American Legion Post No. 1311, the VFW in West Winfield and D.A.V.

Lee owned Builders Supply in Richfield Springs, he was an eclectic business man — a collector of all. He enjoyed life, always seeing endless possibilities and business ventures. Helping others by being a good Samaritan was a mainstay in his life.

Lee is survived by his wife, Dorene; his children and their spouses, Rick E. and Donna Chase of Bainbridge, Kolette M. and Jerry Donovan of Georgia, Marke S. and Leticia Chase of  Texas; his stepson and wife, Anthony and Kristi DiRosa of Westmoreland; five grandchildren; his sister, Charlotte Wetmore of Utica; his sister-in-law, Vivian Chase of Morris; two nephews and one niece.

Lee was predeceased by his brother, Paul Chase.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston, with the Rev. John Young and the Rev. Jerry Race officiating.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with an American Legion Service to be held at 7:30 p.m.

Interment will be in the spring at Edmeston Union Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Lee's memory to the Faith Christian School, Bridgewater, N.Y., 13313.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
