He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, a fellow with the Institute of Electrical and Electronical Engineers and the Society of Technical Communication and a member of Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. She was a member of Sterling Valley Community Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and organist for more than 50 years. She was a member of many community organizations. He graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy and the State University College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse. He was former owner and president of B.R.  Johnson Inc. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and an Eagle Scout. He was past chair of the ESF Foundation and a SUNY ESF trustee emeritus, and past chair of the Crouse Hospital Foundation. He served in the Navy with the Army Air Forces during World War II.Survivors: His wife of 53 years, the former Roberta Crawford; a daughter, Marjorie M. He attended Cooper Union High School and the School for Aviation Mechanics, both in New York City, and the Radio and Television School in Syracuse. He retired in 1988 after 22 years as an electronic research technician at the State University College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse. He was the first African American in Syracuse to own a television and record store, Record City Radio. He was a jazz saxophonist in local groups, a founding member of the Central City Business Men's Association and a member of American Legion Dunbar Post 1642. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors: His former wife, Marjory Wilkins of Syracuse; two daughters, Cheryl Wilkins-Mitchell and Rachielle  White, both of Syracuse; four sons, John E. of Dayton, Ohio, David E. of Milwaukee, Wis., Stephen R. of Durham, N.C., and Mark C. of Magnolia, N.J.; seven grandchildren.
