Lawrence F. Brozewich

SILVER CREEK: Lawrence F. Brozewich, age 68, of Bennett State Road, Silver Creek, formerly of Blasdell died at ( 8:15 A.M.) Tuesday, January 27, 2004 in Buffalo General Hospital.
Mr. Brozewich was born April 12, 1935 in Pittsburgh,  Pennsylvania the son of the late Frank and Wanda (Ejdowski) Brozewich.
Mr. Brozewich was a retired funeral supply salesman having worked for the former Boyertown Casket Company for 14 years . He then worked for the Clarksburg Casket Company and the Aurora Casket Company from where he retired. Mr. Brozewich was a US Air Force veteran serving as a ground radar operator. He was a member of the J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville.
Surviving are several aunts and cousins.
There will be no visitation observed. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Time and place will be announced by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek.

Richard H. Gajewski, Sr.

FORESTVILLE: Richard H. Gajewski, Sr., age 68, of Prospect Road, Forestville, died at (11:22 P.M.) Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at his residence, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Gajewski was born August 10, 1935 in Buffalo, the son of the late John and Julia (Waligora) Gajewski.
Mr. Gajewski was a US Air Force veteran who worked in Logistics for over 20 years, retiring on April 1, 1974, where he received the purple heart and the Air Force commendation medal. He was a mechanic for Coca-Cola in Jacksonville, FL, Dunkirk Ice Cream, St. George Enterprises of Fredonia, and the former American Penn Energy of Fredonia. Mr. Gajewski also enjoyed farming and being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Callie May (Cloud) Gajewski of Forestville, whom he married January 15, 1957 in Sylvester, GA, 2 sons Michael (Bonnie) Gajewski, Sr. of Forestville, Richard (Carolyn) Gajewski, Jr. of Derby, 1 daughter Elizabeth Gajewski of Derby and 4 brothers John Gajewski, Jr. of Buffalo, "Bugsy" Raymond Gajewski of Grand Island, Gregory Gajewski of West Seneca, and Christopher Gajewski of Cheektowaga. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant daughter May Theresa Gajewski, by a sister Dorothy Denault, by an infant sister, and by a brother Robert "Mickey" Gajewski.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, at 10 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Daniel Rutenber pastor of the Gage Chapel Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestville Cemetery, where graveside military services will be conducted by members of the J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to the Forestville Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad, Chestnut Street, Forestville NY 14062.

Lisa D. Sanders

BROCTON: Lisa D. Sanders, age 25, of Pullman Street, Brocton died unexpectedly at (5:56 P.M.) Monday, January 6, 2003 as the result of an automobile accident on Rt. 20, in the Town of Pomfret.
Miss Sanders was born August 23, 1977 in Dunkirk the daughter of Brian Sanders of Brocton and Marie Dean of Fredonia.
She was a graduate of Fredonia High School class of 1995, and received an associates degree from Jamestown Community College. She was employed by Chautauqua Opportunities where she worked as a Family Advocate in the Even Start Program. She loved children.
Surviving besides her parents are 1 daughter Alissa Morales, 1 son Xavier Morales both living at home in Brocton, her step-mother Debra Sanders of Brocton, her faithful companion Javier Morales of Brocton, 4 brothers Luke Sanders of Fredonia, Andrew Sanders of Westfield, Shane Sanders and Toby Matthew Sanders both of Brocton, her paternal grandparents David and Alice Sanders of Arkwright and many aunts, uncles, cousins and step-grandparents. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Delbert and Esther Dean and by an infant brother Toby Brian Sanders.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville with Pastor Brent Boyle, associate pastor of the Southtowns Christian Center, Lakeview, NY officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made to the Sanders Children Trust Fund, %Community Bank, 19 East Main Street, Brocton, NY 14716.

Norman E. Schneider

FORESTVILLE: Norman E. Schneider, age 59, of West Main Street, Forestville, died at (5:15 A.M.) Monday, June 23, 2003 in Hamot Medical Center, Erie, following a short illness.
Mr. Schneider was born November 25, 1943 in Silver Creek, the son of the late Edward “Red”and Elizabeth (Panek) Schneider.
Mr. Schneider was a graduate of Forestville Central School Class of 1963 and was a US Army veteran having served from 1965-1967. He currently was employed by Nestle Purina PetCare as a processing tower operator. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville, a member of the South Dayton American Legion Post #1593, a member of the Pine Valley Veteran's Association VFW Post #2522, Cherry Creek and a member of the Dunkirk Moose Lodge #89. Mr. Schneider joined the Forestville Fire Department in 1969, serving as an assistant chief from 1977-1979, and chief from 1980-1981. Mr. Schneider served as a trustee from 1992-1993, and had served as lieutenant of the fire police and was a life member. He owned and operated a grape & beef farm in Forestville and was very active in the community.
Survivors include his fiancee Edie Woodard of Jamestown, 3 sons, Gy Sgt. Brian (Brenda) Schneider of MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, Jason Schneider of Forestville, Todd Schneider of Silver Creek, 1 daughter Amy Schneider of Forestville, 1 brother George (Kay) Schneider of Falconer and 1 sister Mrs. Richard (Betty) Durant of West Springfield, Massachusetts. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Emily Schneider, Eric Schneider, Ashley Van Buskirk and Adreanna Covert. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Joyce M. (LeBarron) Schneider, whom he married August 25, 1966 in St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and who died June 28, 1987 and an infant brother John Schneider.
Prayer services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock, from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 o’clock from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville, with the Rev. Gerald P. Sheehan, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestville Cemetery where graveside military services will be conducted. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Members of the Forestville Fire Department will conduct services Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock in the funeral home. A Christian Wake Service will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to the Forestville Fire Department.

Evelyn I. Young

IRVING: Evelyn I. Young, age 83, a resident of Lake Shore Nursing Home, Irving, formerly of Hurlburt Road, Forestville died at (10:35 A.M.) Thursday, January 8, 2004 at her residence, following a short illness.
Mrs. Young was born May 12, 1920 in Cottage, New York the daughter of the late John and Rose (Hubbard) Wilcox.
Mrs. Young was a graduate of Forestville High School class of 1938. From 1966-1989 she and her late husband John M. Young who died September 4, 1981 owned and operated the former Wilcox Hotel, Forestville. She was a member of the Pioneer Social Club of Forestville and a former member of the AARP, Dunkirk and the Pine Valley Veterans Association VFW Post #2522 Ladies Auxiliary, Cherry Creek.
Surviving are 2 step-sons James Young of Forestville and John M. Young, Jr. of Erie, PA., 1 step-daughter Mrs. John (Jeri) Wiedenhofer of Fredonia, 1 nephew Chester Wilcox of Forestville, 2 nieces Ethel Hayner of Jamestown and Anna Moon of Van Nuys, CA, 1 step-nephew Harold Richter, Jr. of Forestville and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by 2 brothers Millard M. Wilcox and Charles W. Wilcox and by 3 sisters Maude Peterson, Blossom George and Grace Richter.
There will be no visitation observed. Memorial Services will be held Saturday morning, at 11:00 o’clock from Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. James Riley pastor of the Forestville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Cottage Cemetery, Cottage. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to the Forestville Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad, Chestnut Street, Forestville or to the American Heart Association.

Frances Virginia Argue

IRVING: Frances Virginia Argue, age 82, a resident of TLC/HN-Nursing Facility, Irving, formerly of Silver Creek & Bradford, PA died at (4:15 am) Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at TLC/HN Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Argue was born January 20, 1922 in Bentley,  Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruby (McKissick) Coyle.
Mrs. Argue had been a Silver Creek area resident since 1948, moving there from Bradford, PA. She attended Bradford High School, Bradford, PA. and enjoyed quilting, cooking, camping, and fishing. She also was a former member of Helping Hands in Fredonia.
Survivors include 3 daughters Mrs. Richard (Norma)  Taylor of Silver Creek, Mrs. Erwin (Carol) Cross of Silver Creek and Mrs. David (Cathy) Popielarz of Kettering, Ohio, 2 brothers Herbert Coyle of Akron, Ohio and Robert Coyle of Malvern, Ohio, 1 sister Lois Nolan of Inverness, Florida, 3 step-sisters Mrs. Wallace (Jean) Pealy of Zoarville, Ohio, Ella Mae  Johnson of Zoar, Ohio, Mrs. Robert (Judy) Cropper of Melbourne, FL. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 32 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Wesley W. Argue, whom she married November 20, 1937 in Allegany, NY and who died March 28, 1981, by 2 sons Eugene and Ted Argue, by her step-mother Pearl Coyle, by 2 brothers Tom and John Coyle and by a sister Cleo Greene.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday morning, at 11o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Roger Farney pastor of the Christ Chapel Wesleyan Church, Silver Creek officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Town of Hanover. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made to Hanover Hose, 11919 Hanover Road, Silver Creek, NY, 14136.

James L. Sample

FORESTVILLE: James L. Sample, age 67, of Rt. 83, Forestville died at ( 7:15 P.M.) Friday, January 17, 2003 in Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo following a short illness.
Mr. Sample was born April 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York the son of the late Laurence and Muriel (Lodwick) Sample.
Mr. Sample had attended Randolph High School and was a retired M/Sgt. having served with the US Air Force, retiring in 1978 after 26 years of service. He was employed by the US Postal Service having worked in the Buffalo, Jamestown and Dunkirk Post Offices. Mr. Sample was a member of the South Dayton American Legion Post #1593, a member of the Pine Valley Veterans Association VFW Post #2522, Cherry Creek and a member of the Jamestown DAV. Active in masonic organizations Mr. Sample was a member and past master of Hanover Lodge #152 F & A M, Forestville having served as master in 1991, 1995 and 1997, a member of the Valley of Jamestown Consistory, a member of Ismailia Shrine Temple, Buffalo, a member and past president of the Lake Shore Shrine Club, a member of Gowanda Shrine Club #1, a member and past patron of Forestville Chapter #247 Order of Eastern Star having served as patron in 1992, 1995 and 1998, and a past District Grand Lecturer of Chautauqua County District Order of Eastern Star serving in 2002. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Dunkirk Lodge #89 and was a former member of the Forestville Fire Department Emergency and Rescue Squad.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis (Robertson) Sample of Forestville, 2 daughters Mrs. Russell (Karen) Warren of New Waverly,  Texas, Tracey Farrel of Houston,  Texas, 1 step-son Mitchell (Nikki) Doulilis of Doylestown, Ohio. Also surviving is 1 brother Thomas (Shirley) Sample of Winter Haven, Florida, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant son Ross Sample.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday evening at 9:00 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville with the Rev. Judith M. Scott pastor of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Sample Hill Cemetery, Town of Randolph. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Members of Forestville Chapter #247 OES will conduct services Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock in the funeral home. Members of Hanover Lodge # 152 F & A M will conduct masonic services Tuesday evening at 7:30 o’clock in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made either to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital’s or to the charity of one’s choice.

Shirley A. Thompson

FORESTVILLE: Shirley A. Thompson, age 62, of South Dayton-Silver Creek Road, Forestville, died at (4:24 A.M.) Wednesday, January 14, 2004 in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Thompson was born October 28, 1941 in Silver Creek, the daughter of the late John Pilon.
Mrs. Thompson retired in 1998 from Forestville Central School having worked as a custodian. She was a member of the Forestville United Methodist Church and was a past member & past president of the former Forestville Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Thompson was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother who enjoyed the simple things in life. She also enjoyed chrocheting, knitting, & reading.
Survivors include her husband Gardner "Clem" Thompson of Forestville, whom she married October 11, 1958 in the Forestville Baptist Church, 2 sons Randy Thompson and Gardner L. (Christine) Thompson both of Forestville, 4 daughters Mrs. Joseph (Julie) Goodway of Forestville, Jaunice Thompson of Gowanda, Mrs. Shirley (Lisa) Benton and Tracey Thompson both of Thornton, New Hampshire. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces & nephews. Besides her father she was predeceased by an infant brother Richard Pilon.
Friends may call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, on Saturday, from 2-4 & 7-8:30 p.m. from where funeral services will follow at 8:30 o’clock with Pastor Rebecca Ward, pastor of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Pioneer Cemetery, Forestville. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to the Forestville Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad, Chestnut Street, Forestville or the South Dayton Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad.

Martha Stelmach

FORESTVILLE: Martha Stelmach, age 95, of Prospect Road, Forestville, died at (2:00 A.M.) Friday, April 16, 2004 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, following a short illness.
Mrs. Stelmach was born January 30, 1909 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Walter and Rose (Krakowski) Rybicki.
Mrs. Stelmach and her late husband Joseph Stelmach, whom she married in St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and who died April 25, 1977, co-owned & operated the former Stelmach's Tavern in Buffalo for 5 years, where she worked as a cook and did catering. She was a former member and sunshine lady for the Pioneer Social Club, Forestville, and worked hard all her life, enjoyed knitting and was a very good cook.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Mrs. Donald (Joan) Papaj of Grand Island, 2 sons Joseph A. Stelmach of Forestville, William E. (Pauline) Stelmach of Tonawanda and 1 sister Dorothy Butryn of Silver Creek. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 5 sisters Hattie Michalak, Pauline Kyc, Clara Abramowicz, Josephine Bielat, Sophie Drag, and by 1 brother Walter Rybicki.
Prayer services will be held Monday morning at 9:30 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 o’clock from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville, with the Rev. Gerald P. Sheehan pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the funeral home. Melba M. Knapp

FORESTVILLE: Melba M. Knapp, age 73, of Walnut Steet, Forestville, died at (9:07 A.M.) Monday, October 18, 2004 in Brooks Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.
Mrs. Knapp was born September 6, 1931 in Otto, NY, the daughter of the late Ernest and Edith (Hilliman) Ruper, Sr.
Mrs. Knapp was a 1949 graduate of Cattaraugus Central School and had been employed at the former Gowanda Tannery and Forbes & Wagner of Silver Creek. She was a member of the former Forestville Fireman's Auxiliary, Ladies Home Bureau, the Sunday night bowling league and had worked with Brownie Scouts. An avid traveler, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, canning and playing games of chance at the casinos.
Survivors include her husband George W. Knapp of Forestville, whom she married on October 4, 1952 in North East, PA, 1 son George W. Knapp, III of Forestville and Rochester, 1 daughter Barbara A. Knapp of Buffalo, 1 step-daughter Sandra L. (Knapp) Daminski of Seguin,  Texas, 2 sisters Harrietta Hasper and Virginia Tegler both of Ellicottville, 1 brother Lester Ruper of Sarasota, Florida, 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by 2 brothers Ernest Ruper, Jr. and John Ruper, Sr., by an infant son Donald Knapp who died in 1954 and by an infant daughter Cindy Knapp who died in 1958.
There will be no visitation or services held. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.
