She retired in 1972 after 10 years as a bookkeeper and receptionist for Fred Clement Inc. in Syracuse. She was a librarian in Iowa City, Iowa, for several years. She was an officer of the Mothers Club at Bessie B. Riordan School in Mattydale. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mattydale. Her husband, Alfons A., died in 1983; a son, Eric, died in 1985. Survivors: Two daughters, Nancy Meleski of Clay and Wendy V. Glass of Southern Pines, N.C.; two sisters, Irene  Woods and Pat Garvin, both of Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Services: Monday in Rock Hill. Burial, North Syracuse Cemetery. Joseph A. Carista, 72, of Valley Drive, Syracuse, died Tuesday. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Syracuse more than 40 years. He retired in 1991 after 17 years as a truck driver for Teamsters Union Local 317 in Syracuse and worked for Santoro's Construction. Survivors: A daughter, Mary Vrooman of West Simsburg, Conn.; three sons, Steven Carista of Syracuse, Brian Vrooman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joseph Vrooman of Las Vegas; a stepdaughter, Vicky Moore of Jordan; a brother, Samuel of West Monroe; one grandson. Martha E. Reinhard, 90, of Eastwood died Tuesday at Francis House. Born in Syracuse, she attended Syracuse University. She retired in 1975 after 19 years as a lab technician at Bristol-Myers in Syracuse. She had worked in New York City and Boston for many years as a cosmetic consultant for Elizabeth Arden. She was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Syracuse. Survivor: A sister, Elizabeth Beauparlant of Lewiston, Maine. Frank J. LaPenna, 74, of 108 E. Granger Road, Geddes, died Tuesday. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Solvay High School and lived in Solvay most of his life. He owned and operated LaPenna's TV Sales and Service for 35 years. He was a member of Solvay United Methodist Church and Solvay Hilltop Club. He was a member and treasurer of the Solvay Tigers and was a volunteer and custodian of voting machines for the town of Geddes Democratic Committee. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Marilyn S., died in 1983.Survivors: A daughter, Debbie Simm of Rochester; two sons, David of Albion and Donald of Geddes; five grandchildren. He was a member of Clark-Heck American Legion Post 568 and a former member of Weedsport Lions Club.
