Arthur Hollenbeck
MORRIS — Arthur James Hollenbeck, 62, of Morris, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Binghamton.
He was born May 7, 1937, in Syracuse, the son of William J. and Rosie (Baker) Hollenbeck.
He was a lifelong area resident of the Butternut Valley.
He was never married.
He is survived by his mother, Rosie Camp of Gilbertsville; his sisters, Rosie Moon of Norwich and Shirley M. Hollenbeck of Gilbertsville; a brother, Robert L. Hollenbeck of Gilbertsville; and also several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Keith VanDewerker officiating. Interment will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville in the spring. Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. on Thursday until service time at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad in his memory.

Stanley Demchak
ONEONTA — Stanley W. Demchak, 43, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 15, 1956, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the son of George and June (Walker) Demchak.
Mr. Demchak was a legal aide for the United States Army having retired several years ago.
Most recently he has been a resident of Oneonta having previously resided in New Jersey and the New York City area.
Stanley is survived by his mother of Oneonta; one sister, Katherine Bashaw of Oneonta; two brothers, George Demchak of Washington, D.C., and Michael Demchak of Oregon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private funeral service will be held later at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
Martha E. Hoff
WALTON — Martha E. Hoff, 95, formerly of 51 Shephard St., Walton, died at 4 a.m., Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Roscoe Community Nursing Home, where she has been residing since 1992.
She was born on Nov. 12, 1904, in Jersey City, N.J., to Ernest and Annie (Berger) Freese.
She married William E. Hoff in Bayonne, N.J., in 1928, who predeceased her in 1966.
She attended the First Baptist Church of Walton and was a homemaker all of her life.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Grace Hoff of Walton; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Joseph Griffin of Cocoa, Fla.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held in the spring in Bayview Cemetery, Jersey City, N.J. The family will receive friends at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, on Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

James L. Shimer
SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. — James Leonard Shimer of Susquehanna, Pa., passed away after a valiant fight against cancer on Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna, Pa.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rose.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James Leo and Doreen Shimer of Susquehanna, Pa.; one granddaughter, Roberta (Bobbi) Shimer of Susquehanna, Pa.; a sister, Marguerite "Midge" Stoss of Lake Placid, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mary Johnson of Otego, N.Y.
Jim was a life long resident of Susquehanna county. He will be missed by his many friends who'll remember him as an accomplished carpenter/craftsman and an avid pitch player. Jim took great pride in his flowers. He loved to share with others whether it was a homemade meal, cranberry beans, a jar of bread and butter pickles, or a black walnut tree that had "voluntarily grown" in his garden.
Jim had requested that there be no calling hours or service.

Genevieve DeLong
ONEONTA — Genevieve I. DeLong, 89, of Oneonta and formerly of Gloversville, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born Oct. 2, 1910, in Schenectady, the daughter of Weigan and Grace (Cummings) Schuhl.
In 1944, she was married to Howard DeLong, who died in 1979.
Mrs. DeLong owned and operated a beauty parlor in Gloversville for many years. For a period of time, retiring in 1972, she was employed as a credit manager first with Montgomery Ward and later with Britts department stores in Gloversville.
An area resident since 1985, moving here from Clifton Park, Mrs. DeLong attended the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta. While living in Gloversville, she was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Emblem Club of the Elks, in which she was also a past president.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Grace E. and F. Daniel Larkin of Oneonta; two grandchildren and their spouses, Katherine Larkin and Steve Showers of Tannersville and Susan and Brian Gillette of Oneonta; two great-grandchildren, Kendall and Peyton Gillette of Oneonta; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Keirn Brown of Belleaire, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ethel Schuhl of Ballston Lake; along with several nieces and nephews.
A private, graveside service will be held on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in the Albany Rural Cemetery.

Edith A. Selig
WORCESTER — Edith A. Selig, 76, of Worcester, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Saratoga Hospital, Saratoga Springs.
She was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Union Vale, the daughter of Edward and Eva (Harrington) Ferris.
She married Joseph A. Selig on June 19, 1949, in Arlington.
Mrs. Selig moved to Worcester in 1962.
Mrs. Selig worked in the cafeteria at the Worcester Central School, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, a past member of the American Legion Post No. 1584 Ladies Auxiliary, Worcester, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post in Poughkeepsie.
She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Selig of Utica; one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Annette Selig of Saratoga Springs; two granddaughters, Carla and Amy Selig; several nieces, nephews and cousins; six sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in May of 1996; her son, Martin in January of 1978 and four brothers, Roy, Nelson, Emerson and Harry Ferris.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Worcester.
The Rev. Edward Golding will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

William O. Williams
NEW BERLIN — William Owen Williams, 88, of New Berlin, died Dec. 30, 1999, at Chase Nursing Home, New Berlin.
He was born Aug. 29, 1911, in Plainfield Center, the son of Homer and Margaret (Jones) Williams.
He was married to Doris Miller on April 3, 1938. She survives.
His childhood was spent in the West Winfield area and he was a graduate of West Winfield Central School.
He is survived by his children, Roger and Kay Williams of New Berlin, Richard and Joanne Williams of Edmeston, Barb and Clyde Lilley of New Berlin, Sharon and Donald Hoffman of Black River and Debi and Randy Beadle of East Springfield; one sister, Elsie Spooner of Leonardsville; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, James in 1973, and one daughter, Carol in 1978.
He worked at Bendix Corp. in Sidney for 25 years. He worked part time at Chase Nursing Home for 12 years.
He was a trustee for the village of New Berlin for 18 years and a member of the New Berlin Fire Department and Emergency Squad.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin.
Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler of the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin officiating.
Interment will be at St. Andrew's Cemetery, New Berlin.
Viewing will be Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, from 3-5 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.
Memorial donations may be made to the Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin or the New Berlin Fire Department.
Alvin H. Wyckoff
COLLIERSVILLE — Mr. Alvin H. Wyckoff, 76, of The Meadows and formerly of Colliersville, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 29, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
He was born Feb. 24, 1923, in the Bronx, the son of Elmer and Anna (Zwicker) Wyckoff.
He married Mary Murray Nov. 17, 1983, in Oneonta. Alvin served in the United States Navy in World War II.
Alvin moved to the Colliersville and Oneonta area from New York City and purchased and operated the Redwood Motel in November of 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Wyckoff of The Meadows; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Linda Wyckoff of Farmingville, Joseph and Betty Wyckoff of North Massapequa and Bruce and Diane Wyckoff of Holtsville, L.I.; two brothers, Howard Wyckoff of Flushing and George Wyckoff of Norwalk, Conn.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Michael Fitzpatrick of New Jersey and Edith and Richard Stafford of New York; seven grandchildren, Gregory and Tina Wyckoff, Joseph and Keith Wyckoff and Nicholas, Daniel and Jessica Wyckoff; a very near and dear friend, Jack Morrisey of Queens; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and committal services will be held on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
The Rev. Paul Messner, vacancy pastor for the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Oneonta, will officiate.
Burial will be in the spring at Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
The family will be present at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, from 1 p.m. until service time for those who wish to call.

Elizabeth K. Mabon
DELHI — Elizabeth K. Mabon, 90, of Delhi, died Dec. 29, 1999, at Delaware County Countryside Care Center in Delhi.
She was born March 9, 1909, in Bovina, the daughter of Walter and Fannie Belle (Thompson) McDivitt.
She married William D. Mabon on June 25, 1930. He predeceased her on April 19, 1955.
Mrs. Mabon was a sixth-grade teacher at Andes Central School from 1955 until her retirement in the 1970s. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delhi since 1955, she was active in the Women's Organization and served as a deacon. She also was a volunteer at Countryside Care for many years.
An artist with a needle, Elizabeth was an accomplished quilt maker and seamstress.
A daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Mabon of Delhi; two brothers-in-law, James Oliver of Delhi and Burr Harrington of New Berlin; a sister-in-law, Bea Mabon of Delhi and several nieces and nephews survive.
A daughter, Valerie Elizabeth Mabon, predeceased her on Dec. 23, 1990.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Arvid Whitmore officiating. There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be in the spring at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

James H. Murdock
MARGARETVILLE — James Harvey Murdock, 87, of Margaretville, died Dec. 29, 1999, at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston.
He was born May 4, 1912, in Arena, the son of Dennison Murdock and Laura DeSilva.
He was never married.
He operated a fish and bait business in New Hampshire.
He traveled all over the country as a salesman selling many items including Mason shoes. He traveled by walking from place to place. He also traveled with the carnival for a short time. He was a sharpshooter with a bow and arrow and also a member of the Mission Alliance Church in Middletown.
He is survived by two sisters, Virginia Barrett of Fleischmanns and Millicent Hinkley of Middletown, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. S. Hayden Walsh officiating.
Burial will be in Orchard Street Cemetery, Livingston Manor.
Calling hours will take place prior to the service Saturday morning.
Contributions can be sent to the Memorial Fund of Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
