Vida M. Wright, 91, of 60 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Monday, May 7, 2007 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid. Born May 9, 1915 in Lake Placid, she was the daughter of Ira and Mary (Banker) Winch. She married Kenneth Wright. Mrs. Wright had been a resident of the area for most of her life. She had been employed as a licensed practical nurse at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake and later at Trudeau and Gabriel’s Sanitariums and Moreford’s Nursing Home in Bloomingdale. She later worked as a processing clerk in the list maintenance department at American Management Association for seven and one half years until retiring in 1979. She enjoyed reading. She is survived by one son, Richard Wright and his wife Susanne of Saranac Lake; one sister Helen Snickles of Bloomingdale; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband on Nov. 24, 1971; two sons: Donald and Kenneth Wright; three brothers: Harold, Forrest and Wayne Winch; and five sisters: Blanche Abbot, Hazel Chase, Norma Darrah, Florence LaValley and Gladys McCleran. Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday May 11 at the funeral home with the Rev. Merry Watters officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in Vermontville. Gail Ellen Randall, 59, of Lake Placid, died at 8:16 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2007 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born Nov. 29, 1947 in Lake Placid, she was the daughter of Florence (Collins) and James Barry Sr. She was the beloved wife of David A. Randall and cherished mother of Heather and Scott. Gail graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1966 and attended school at the Guild in Saranac Lake and Albany Medical Center for her x-ray technician’s license. She worked at hospitals in Albany, Canton and Lake Placid until 1976 when her first child was born. As a second career, Gail was the office manager for the family printing business, Barry and Wilson Printing Company Inc. until doors closed in 2003. On Nov. 18, 1972, Gail married David Randall of Lake Placid at St. Agnes Church. David resides at the family home they have shared for the past 35 years. David and Gail have two children, a daughter Heather Randall who resides with her companion Chris Neville in Clayton and a son Scott Randall, who resides with his wife Andrea in Lake Placid. Gail was a devoted wife, mother and friend who took great pleasure in their company. She also enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, collecting and decorating for all holidays. She is survived by her children; her brother Larry Barry and his wife Kelly of Lake Placid; a sister Beverly Barry of Florida; a sister-in-law Kathie Barry of Lake Placid; two brothers-in-law and their wives: Craig and Cheryl Randall of Lake Placid and Stephen and Nancy Randall of Wilmington; a dear friend, Kay McCasland; her cousin Nancy Smith of Lake Placid; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles who will miss her love of family and friends; and by her two spirited and faithful dachshunds Brodder and Jesse. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother James Barry Jr. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11 at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Rita Irene Lamica, 86, formerly of 10 Lake St., Tupper Lake and most recently of the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh. Born May 22, 1921 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Mary Louise (LeMay) and Louis Grenier. She attended local schools and graduated as salutatorian in 1939 from the Holy Ghost Academy in Tupper Lake. Other than a short time that she lived in Rome, she was a lifelong resident of Tupper Lake. She worked at the Oval Wood Dish Company, where she met her husband. On June 3, 1948 she married Irvin “Bud” Lamica at Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake by Fr. Dennis Finnegan. After they married, she became a full-time housewife and mother. Mrs. Lamica was a devoted wife and mother as well as a devout Catholic. She belonged to the Legion of Mary and the Prayer Group and she served the church in a variety of ways including as a lector and Eucharistic minister. She is survived by three daughters: Linda Lamica of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Glenn (Ann Marie) Bedore of Tupper Lake and Jeanne Lamica of Plainfield, Vt.; two sons: the Rev. Alan Lamica of Malone and John Lamica and his wife Dina of Tupper Lake; two sisters: Mrs. Henry (Elizabeth) LaVigne of Tupper Lake and Mrs. William (Helen) Mastraccio of Rocklin,  Calif.; five grandchildren: Jared Lancor and his wife Erin of Plattsburgh, Emily Churco and Jesse Bedore, both of Tupper Lake, and Kyle and Kaley Cook of Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; two sisters: Alice Grenier and Pauline Burke; and five brothers: Clarence, Leon, Henry, Morris and Paul. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10 at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake with the Rev. Alan Lamica presiding and other priests of the diocese concelebrating. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad, Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department or Adirondack Adult Center in Tupper Lake.

Barton J. “Bart” Tarbox, of 60 Prospect St., Tupper Lake, died suddenly on Saturday, July 7, 2007. Born July 12, 1941, in Piercefield, he was the son of Raymond and Florence (Charette) Tarbox. Bart entered the United States Navy in 1959 and retired after 22 years of service. Bart received a collection of medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Expert Pistol Medal, and was awarded the Good Conduct Award three times. Bart married Patricia Benjamin on Feb. 7, 1982 in Tupper Lake. On Aug. 6, 1982, he entered the New York State Department of Corrections where he diligently advanced to the position of sergeant and later lieutenant. Bart is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Patricia of Tupper Lake; four sons: Raymond “Ray” Tarbox and his fiancee Summer Tyo of Tupper Lake, Buck North and his companion Denise Roberts of Tupper Lake, Brad North and his companion Trevor Rabideau of Plattsburgh and Blake North and his wife Danielle of Jay; two daughters: Phyllis Trudeau and her husband Robert of Tupper Lake and Penny Pitman of Chesapeake, Va.; three brothers: Kevin Tarbox and his wife Dawn of Tupper Lake, Alan Tarbox and his wife Cheryl of Piercefield and Craig Tarbox of Johnstown; nine grandchildren: Ciera and Ben North, Alyssa Tarbox, Jaden and Sierra LaValley, Hayden and Hannah Trudeau and Shianne and Jacob Pittman. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 at the Stuart Fortune Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Marion A. Shipman, 75, of Cascade Road, Lake Placid, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007 after a long illness. She was born in Saranac May 29, 1932, the daughter of John and Agnes (Morrow) Ledwith. She was the wife of Merritt Shipman, who passed away in 1986. Mrs. Shipman worked as a cook at the Lake Placid High School for 43 years, retiring in 1987. She also prepared delicious food and desserts for many functions and gatherings at the American Legion in Lake Placid. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 326, Lake Placid. Marion is survived by three sons: Fred Shipman and his wife Wanda, Steve Shipman and Scott Shipman, all of Lake Placid; one daughter, Penny Buffington and her husband Phil of Lake Placid; three sisters: Florence Collins of West Plattsburgh, Theresa Gonyea of Lake Placid and Agatha Kingston of Lake Placid; 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband and one son, Thomas C. Shipman, predeceased her. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 9 at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. An American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A Bible Vigil Service will follow at 7:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10 at the Clark Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Elba Cemetery. The Rev. Joseph L. Lois G. Harris, 78, of Tupper Lake died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Adirondack Medical Center Mercy Center where she resided since April. Born on May 29, 1929 in Cranford, N.J., she was the daughter of Roy and Ruth (Marsac) Morse. She graduated from Montclair High School in 1947. She married Joseph Arsenault, and later married Donald Harris. Mrs. Harris was employed by the Tupper Lake National Bank, Futtermans Furniture Store and Sunmount D.D.S.O., where she was store manager. She retired after 25 years of service in 1990. After her retirement, she worked as a senior companion at Sunmount and as a foster grandparent at the L.P. Quinn Elementary School. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxillary, Women of the Moose, BPW Club, American Legion Ladies Auxillary, TOPS and the Red Hat Society. She is survived by three sons: Mark Arsenault and his wife Susan of Tupper Lake, Michael Harris and his wife Phyllis of Schenectady and Matthew Harris and his wife Nicolle of Tupper Lake; two daughters: Jody Smith and her husband Terry and Jackie Sovey and her husband Michael, both of Tupper Lake; two sisters: Janet Gangaware of Cherokee and Jane Morse and her husband Al of Franklin; nine grandchildren: Pamela Arsenault, Joseph Arsenault, Kari Jones, Katelyn King, James King, Morgan Sovey, Jake Harris, Jenifer Harris and Ashley Harris; and a great-grandaughter Shae Arsenault. She was predeceased by her parents and husbands. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 8 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Donald M. Valentine, 76, of McKinley Street in Lake Placid died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born May 16, 1931 in Lewis, he was the son of Albert and Bertha (Sawyer) Valentine. Mr. Valentine attended Elizabethtown High School. He worked as an auto mechanic and school bus driver in Lake Placid. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in France and Germany during the Korean War. He married the former Eileen Straight Nov. 29, 1957 in Elizabethtown. Mr. Valentine was a member of the Lake Placid Masonic Lodge No. 834 for 47 years. He was also a member of the Lake Placid American Legion Post 326 and the Lake Placid Fish and Game Club and a former member of the Shriners. He is survived by his wife of Lake Placid; one son Patrick Valentine and his wife Joan of Lake Placid, one daughter Debra Barber and her husband Keith of Malone; four granddaughters: Carolyn and Catherine Valentine, and Emily and Sara Barber; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Harold Valentine; a half-brother Claude Aubin; and a half-sister Florence Shene. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 8 at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. An American Legion prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Masonic prayer service at 7:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9 at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Vincent, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Wilmington, officiating. Burial will follow in the North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald’s memory to the Masonic Scholarship Fund.

Richard M. Cotrupe, 59, of Piercefield, died suddenly Sunday, July 1, 2007, at his home, where he had resided with his wife Linda for the past seven years. Born September 16, 1947 in Utica, he was the son of Daniel and Rose (Rizzo) Cotrupe and beloved brother to his three siblings. Richard was a 1970 graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy. Following his graduation, he resided in Chantilly, Va. for more than 25 years. He practiced pharmacy at Giant Food, Inc. In 2000, he moved to Gull Pond to enjoy his retirement. He chose to continue the practice of pharmacy at Kinney Drugs and was active in the Rotary Club of Tupper Lake. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda; two daughters: Michele, of Chicago, Ill. and Brandi of Keeseville; his father Daniel of Utica; two brothers: Daniel of West Falls and Frank of Whitesboro; one sister Diane Petzke of Cassville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 5 at the Stuart–Fortune–Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 6. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake. Eunice A. McCasland, 84, of Station Street in Lake Placid, died Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born July 11, 1923 in Lake Placid, she was the daughter of Wendell H. and Tunis (Smith) Benedict. She had worked for several years as a seamstress and a homemaker, fabricating and altering clothing for many families in the area. Mrs. McCasland is survived by her husband James L. McCasland of Lake Placid; three sons: Wendell McCasland and his companion Steve Kuzemka and their close friend Mary Messer of Lake Placid, Wayne R. Hough of Marrianna, Fla., and James McCasland of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Eunice M. Travis of Lake Placid; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 25 at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Demers, pastor of the Adirondack Community Church, officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Edith F. LaLonde, 72, of Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, peacefully at her home. Born Jan. 10, 1935 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Leslie and Florence (Moseman) Scholl. She married Sherman LaLonde on Sept. 5, 1953 in Brooklyn. Mrs. LaLonde was employed at various jobs in Tupper Lake, including The Dress Factory, Macro’s Decorating Studio, Big Tupper Ski Area and the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce. In 1977 she started a 20-year career with the Adirondack Park Agency in Raybrook, retiring in 1997 as the principal account clerk. Mrs. LaLonde was very active in the Tupper Lake community, and served on the village Planning Board, belonged to a local arts group and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1959. She held many positions with the Eastern Star such as Worthy Matron in 1968 and 1975 and District Deputy Grand Matron in 1988. She was originator and Chairwoman of the Eastern Star Flea Market for 25 years. Her love and passion for the annual event has increased the size of the flea market from seven vendors to the current total of 325. She was always recognized at the flea market by her familiar red hat. In 1999 the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce recognized her as Citizen of the Year. She is survived by her husband of 53 years; five sons: Steven and his wife Mickey, Sherman, Scott and his wife Amy, Stuart and his wife Mary, and Shaun of Tupper Lake; 10 grandchildren: Danielle, Ashley, Lydia, Emile, Erin, Jessica, Matthew, Robbie, Rick and Craig; and five great-grandchildren: Ava, Camille, Sydney, Eli and Sadie. She was predeceased by her parents; one brother Herbert; and one sister Elizabeth. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 19 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 20 at the United Community Church. Burial will follow in Holy Name Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice or the Tupper Lake Rescue squad in care of the funeral home.

Virginia W. Snyder, 84, of Tupper Lake, died unexepectedly Monday, July 9, 2007 at her home on Moody Road. Born July 3, 1923 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Raymond and Aleene (Bergman) Walter. Mrs. Snyder grew up in Brooklyn and spent summers in Tupper Lake. She was a graduate of Girls Commercial School in Brooklyn. She became a year-round resident of Tupper Lake in 1952. She was employed for a time at Sunmount VA in the Canteen, where she met her future husband Glen Snyder. They were married Nov. 22, 1952. Virginia was a very independent and strong-minded person with a sense of humor. She and her husband with the help of friends, produced many gallons of maple syrup on their property. She was an artist extraordinaire in most any medium from crayolas to oils. She was well-known for her Indian snow sculpture and her logos for the Tupper Lake Winter Sports Club, Adirondack Regional Credit Union and the Ham Radio Club, along with her 10-by-30-foot mural at Sunmount D.D.S.O. She was an avid skier at Sugarloaf in the 1940s and later at the Big Tupper ski area. She also was a ham radio operator. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Richer and her husband Jim of Tupper Lake; her granddaughter Gretchen Dartt and her husband Tim of Ferrisburgh, Vt.; two grandsons: Chris Richer and his companion Ryan of Belgrade, Mont. and Matthew Richer and his wife Elena Ramirez of Shelburne, Vt.; and five great-grandchildren: Noah and Zeb Dartt, Lucas Richer and Emma and Ellie Richer-Ramirez. She was predeceased by her husband Sept. 14, 2003. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, July 13 with at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A service will be held at noon Friday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad.

Caleb Joseph Baillargeon, 29, of Cottonwood Way in Lake Placid, died suddenly Tuesday, July 10, 2007. Born Nov. 26, 1977, he was the son of Bernie and Deborah (Pelkey) Baillargeon. Caleb was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1997. He worked as an electrical contractor in Lake Placid and the surrounding area. Caleb was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing. One of his favorite places to be was at “camp.” He is survived by his parents of Lake Placid; his fiancee Charity Morford of Lake Placid; three children: Trinity, Braden and Alivia Baillargeon, all of Lake Placid; one brother, Sparky Baillargeon and his fiancee Cassie Alexander of Ray Brook; his maternal grandmother, Shirley Pelkey; and his paternal grandparents, Edgar and Ethel Baillargeon. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid with the Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Those wishing to remember Caleb are asked to make donations in his memory to Alcoholics Anonymous, C/O Drongngur Retreat Center, Ellenburgh Depot, NY 12935 or the Mountain Lake Academy, Att. Scott A. McDuff, 30, of 30 Cortez Lane, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 following a snowmobile accident. Born in Holy Oak, Mass. on July 15, 1977, he was the son of Debra (Tallman) McDuff. Scott had been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1993 and attended Saranac Lake High School. Scott was employed by various area businesses including Advanced Auto Parts, Riveredge Restaurant, the Hotel Saranac and Rice Furniture. He loved fishing, cars, video games and snowmobiling and spending time with his children. He is survived by his fiance and companion of 13 years, Cissy  Taylor of Saranac Lake; two daughters: Ushuaia McDuff- Taylor and Kiah McDuff- Taylor of Saranac Lake; one son, Cody McDuff- Taylor of Saranac Lake; his mother, Debra McDuff of Lake Clear; two brothers: Ronald McDuff Jr. of West Springfield, Mass. and Jeff McDuff of Thomasville, N.C.; one sister, Kristy McDuff-Durant and her husband Nick Durant of North Bangor; Aunt Tissy; many other aunts, uncles and cousins; his in-laws, Julia and Gene  Taylor of Saranac Lake; and his best friends: Zach Cayea of Saranac Lake, Jimbo  Johnson of Saranac Lake, Patrick Keyes of Saranac Lake, Corey and Kimberly  Taylor of Lake Clear and Casey  Taylor and Amber Dezell of Saranac Lake. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Bible Vigil service will take place at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 at the funeral home.
