He retired from the U.S. Steel Mill (Cleveland) and Juvenile Correction Facility, also an honorably discharged U.S. Army Veteran. He attended Bethel Apostolic Church of Christ in Urbancrest, Oh. Preceded in death by parents Dolores Calloway and Charles F. Smith Sr., grandson Joel Smith. Survived by wife, Janet Heilig-Smith; son, Michael (Tamara) Smith; other children, Melinda (Johnny) Rembert, Maria (Wayne) Byas, David (Vicky) Peake, Wendell Peake, Kevin Peake, Michael Peake, Hershell (Nicole) Heilig and Odessa Peake; sisters, Mia (Kenneth) Brown, Mary (Gary) Tucker; brothers, Tyson (LaRita) Smith and Tae Young; granddaughter, Tania McGhee-Smith; nephews, Brandon and Jordan Tucker, Michael Harris, DeVonte' Smith and Tyson Smith Jr.; cousins, special friends and bowling buddies. Funeral service Saturday 10 a.m., Chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long St. Rev. Richard Lyles officiating. Mr. Smith will lie in state Saturday after 8 a.m. in the mortuary, where the family will receive friends 9 a.m. until time of service. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery.

SULLIVAN Roy Curt Sullivan, age 58, of New Albany on Thursday March 15, 2001 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Lifelong member of Franklin United Brethren Church. Employed at ARC Industries. Preceded in death by parents William E. and Mary Leone Sullivan. Survived by brothers, Willard B. (Pat) Zarley, Wilbur G. Sullivan; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 East Johnstown Road, (on Rt. 62, * mile east of Hamilton Rd.), Gahanna, where service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday March 17, 2001. TIBE Joseph A. "Mac" Tibe, born May 18, 1919, passed away March 12, 2001 at Doctors Hospital West. Mac attended Aquinas High School, where he was active in sports. Worked for Curtis Wright during WW II. He retired as a mechanic for Modern Music Company after many years of service. Preceded in death by parents Robert and Rose Circone Malvuitch and twin brother James Tibe. Survived by son, Timothy Tibe of Calif.; brother, Albert Tibe of Fla.; aunt, Garnette Charie; uncle, Ralph Capuano; niece, Barbara (Jim) Gloeckner; nephews, John and Betsy Tibe, James R. and Carman Tibe; special friend, Betty J. Lahr; and many other family members and friends. Funeral service 12noon Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the JOHN QUINT & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Ave., where family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12noon. WARD Melody Ward, age 34, of London, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Madison County Hospital. Born April 28, 1966 in Marysville, Oh. Preceded in death by father Maxwell A. Ward, 1991. Survived by mother, Emiline (Farley) Ward of Marysville; brother, David (Elaine) Ward of Hilliard; sister, Angela (Tom) Shockey of Milford Center; several aunts, uncles and cousins. BATES Hursel Bates, age 77, Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. Former employee of the Columbus Dispatch. Preceded in death by parents Creed and Minnie Bates. Survived by children, Judith (Willard) Evans, James Richard Bates; grandchildren, Melissa A. Evans, Matthew A. (Angela) Evans, Tracy Michelle (Jeremy) Milner, Lorie Nichole Bates; great-grandchildren, Katie Elizabeth Young and Jordon Melissa Evans; special friend, Shirley Mahaffey; brothers, Creed, Jr., Paul, Marvin and Bob; sisters, Gladys and Bernice; many nieces and nephews; first wife, Verbie S. BATES Lawrence A. Bates was born in Stockton, Kan. on December 12, 1916, passed away in Columbus on Friday, March 16, 2001 at the age of 84. Survived by wife, Frances Evelyn (Allen) Bates; sister, Gladys (Bates) White of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Laree (Larry) Morgenstern of Chicago; son, Lawrence (Anita) Bates of Gahanna; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Member of United Methodist Church in Hoisington, Kan. Memorial Service to be conducted at Kansas Wesleyan University (graduate of 1940) in the Miller Chapel, 100 E. Claflin, Salina, Kan. on March 23, 2001 at 1 p.m. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to Evangel Christian Academy, 817 N. Hamilton Rd., Gahanna, Oh. 43230. BRAY Make Bray Sr., passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2001, OSU East Hospital. Retired Sanitation worker for the City of Columbus and served with the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Weaver Bray. Survived by his wife, Sallie Bray of Montgomery, Ala.; sons, Make Jr., Montgomery, Wendell (Linda), Detroit, Harold (Gloria), Detroit, Thomas (Betty), Montgomery and Herbert (Brenda) Bray, Montgomery; daughter, Merle (Sherman) Todd, Chicago, Ill.; special niece, Gussie Porter, Columbus; special nephew, Billy Buchannan, Detroit; special cousin, Elsie Curry; sister-in-law, Leola Buchannan; brother-in-law, Fred Carter, both of Montgomery; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. BROOKHART Kenneth James Brookhart, age 69, of Gahanna, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Mt. Carmel Hospital East. Arrangements to be announced later by SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, Gahanna.

BRUMBAUGH Mary Ann Brumbaugh, 80, of Columbus, formerly of Buffalo, W.Va., died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Dodrill's Private Home Care. She was a member of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Meredith E. Brumbaugh, parents Frank and Binnie Raynes, siblings Zorada, Rudolph, Frank and Clyda. She is survived by sisters, Jessie Mallett and Helen Burdette; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, where friends will be received from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Lloyd Markley officiating. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Fountain Square Cemetery, Fostoria, Oh. Member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of the Deaf, Ohio School For The Deaf Alumni Association. Former Treasurer, Board of Governors, Martin Janis Model Railroad Association. Preceded in death by wife Zola M. Chamberlain, parents Floyd C. and Louisa K. Chamberlain and sister Juanita. Survived by daughters, Carol (Robert) Euans of Columbus and Arlene (James) Wetherill of Marysville; son, Kenneth Chamberlain and friend, Norma Peloquin of Bellefontaine; grandchildren, Brad (Lori Ann) Euans, Lori Euans, Bryan (Farrah) Euans, Bruce (Kathleen) Euans, Molly (Greg) Barber, Melissa (Mike) Long, Michelle Wetherill, Alyssa (Terry) Voight and K.C. CLUGSTON Velma Mohler Clugston, of Whitehall, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001. Employee of Ramada Inn, Reynoldsburg, and Hilton Inn, of Tulsa. Preceded in death by father Charles Mohler, sister Marvine Mohler, and 5 children at birth. Survived by mother, Zelda Mohler; brothers, Paul, Kenney, Terry and Dale Mohler, Baltimore, OH; sons, Brian and Lowell Clugston; grandson, Jeffrey Clugston.
