IRELAND John David Ireland, 81, of Riverwoods Dr., Exeter, N.H., died Monday, March 19, 2001 at the Lodge at Riverwoods. A native of Columbus, Oh., he attended Crestview Grade School, North High, and graduated from Ohio State in Chemical Engineering. Served 4 years in the Army Corps. of Engineers during WW II in England, North Africa and with the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge. Returned to college to gain a Master's Degree at M.I.T. His professional career included research and development in hydrocarbon and crude oil recovery synthesis for Standard of Indiana, recovery of pure titanium metal at Battelle Memorial Institute, high energy fuels from boron for Olin Mathieson and plant development projects for several New York engineering-design firms. Returned to Columbus as Process Engineer for Borden and later went into private consulting on chemical processes and energy conservation. State auditor for U.S. Energy Title III programs in 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986. Commerci! al pilot with instrument rating. Distance swimmer. Member First Community Church, Central Ohio Radio Readers. Survived by his wife of 55 years, D. Virginia Ireland of Exeter, N.H.; 2 sons, David C. and Carol Ireland of Salem, N.H., William P. and Sandra Ireland of Charlottetown, P.E.I., Canada; 2 daughters, Dr. Jeanne E. and Norris Manser of Wynnewood, Pa., Helen and Jean-Pierre Subrenat of Roubaix, France; 5 grandchildren, Alyson Ireland and Jennifer Ireland, both of Salem, N.H., Julie Manser and Kira Manser, both of Wynnewood, Pa. and Paul Subrenat of Roubaix, France. He was predeceased by his brother Dr. Robert B. Ireland, who died on March 18, 2001. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday March 23 at 2 p.m. at Riverwoods of Exeter, Great Bay Room. The Rev. John E. Denson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Oh. KESSLER Ralph D. Kessler, age 86, on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Kobacker House. Survived by daughter, Nancy (Bill) Bartholomew; sons, Fr. Tom Kessler and Ralph David (Marilee) Kessler; grandchildren, Stephen, Gretchen, Sasha, Christian, Patrick, Susan, Kelly and Sean; sisters, Gertrude (Tim) Linehan and Mary Lou (Dick) Stewart. KLEE Dorothy Dubes Klee, age 78, of Columbus, March 19, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Survived by her husband of 44 years, William; 4 children, Deacon Joseph, Mary, John and Anne; brother, Russell Dubes; sister, Peggy Schlaechter; sister-in-law, Joan Woodruff; niece, Molly Schlaechter; nephew, Jerry Schlaechter; 2 twin granddaughters, Cathy and Nicole. KROONEMEYER Kent Edwin Kroonemeyer, of Pataskala, Oh., went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2001. He was employed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for 32 years and was Supervisor of the Reynoldsburg office for the past 21 years. Previous to this, he served 3 years in the U.S. Navy and attended 4 years of college at Humboldt State College. Kent had many interests including fishing, canoeing and working with youth. He spent many years working with different youth organizations including Boy Scouts, Jobs Daughters and Rainbow for Girls. The main love of his life was his family and his grandchildren who were extra special. Kent was born in Milwaukee, Wis. on August 19, 1942. His parents were John and Florence Kroonemeyer, who preceded him in death many years ago. He was also preceded in death by his sister Cathryn and his mother-in-law Jennie Palmer. Survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda; son, Jason of Coshocton; daughter, Traci Kroonemeyer Zwiesler of Galloway;! son-in-law, Duane Zwiesler; future daughter-in-law, Chrissy Walsh; grandchildren, Zachary, Samantha and Kerri; sister, Annetta Eldridge; brother-in-law, Ed Given; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Hunt and Margaret Given. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews and so so many loving friends. He also tried to hold off his death so he could meet his new grandson due at the end of this month. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday March 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 7717 Hazelton-Etna Rd., Pataskala, Oh. LESTER Earl Lester Sr., age 81, passed away March 19, 2001 at Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe. Retired from General Motors. WW II Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Preceded in death by mother Nancy Lester, son Jerry Lester and granddaughter Andrea Lester. LOCKE Richard Morson (Dick) Locke, former Ronco executive, died March 19, 2001 at his home in Tampa, FL. He was 81. Dick Locke is survived by his wife, Louise Brigham Locke; 4 children, Richard Locke Jr. of San Francisco, Lendra Hamre of San Francisco, Peter Locke of Franktown, CO and Margaret Bush of Brandon, FL.; 6 grandchildren; and his sister, Nancy Graber of Monclair, N.J. He was Chairman of the Board and Treasurer of Tampa Appliance Parts Corporation (TAPCO). Dick Locke was a native of New York City. After graduating from West High in Minneapolis, Locke returned to New York City. One of his first jobs was with Brooks Brothers, at the Madison Avenue store. He also attended night school at CCNY and enlisted in the New York National Guard (7th Regiment) in 1938. In 1941, he enlisted in the Army, was admitted to Officer Candidate School, and became an instructor there. He later commanded a battery of halftracks in the 579th AA unit in New Guinea and the Philippines. ! Upon Japan's surrender, Locke's battery was selected by General MacArthur to witness the surrender of the Japanese in Tokyo Bay. After leaving the service in 1946, Locke joined Honeywell as a salesman. During 17 years with Honeywell he headed the Residential Air Conditioning Controls group, and was involved in developing the famous "round" Honeywell, Locke became General Manager of Ranco, Inc. of Columbus, OH, a world wide designer and manufacturer of automatic controls. In 1976, Locke purchased and developed Tapco in Tampa, Fl. Dick Locke held a number of leadership positions in the automatic controls industry, including Chairman of the Automatic Controls Division of the National Electrical Manufacturing Association; Vice President of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI); and was a life member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Dick Locke was also active in a number of service organizations throughout h! is life. He was the Distinguished President of both the Kiwanis Club of Columbus, Oh and Tampa, Fl; Chairman of the Executive Service Corps (ESCOT) of Tampa and a member of its National Advisory Board; and Chairman and Board Member of Goodwill Industries of Columbus, Oh. He was also active with the Florida Chapter of the 7th Regiment Veterans. During his life, he was active in the Episcopal church, serving in the past as a church school teacher, vestryman and Junior and Senior warden. He attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Upper Arlington, Oh. Funeral arrangements will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church. He will be buried in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fl. at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. MIDDENDORF Ronald L. Middendorf, age 53, of Hilliard, Monday, March 19, 2001 at the residence. Preceded in death by parents Dick and Dorothy Middendorf. Survived by wife of 27 years, Christi (Gillespie) Middendorf; sons, Ty (Bev) of Amlin, K.C. (Mandy) and grandson, Justin of Columbus; brothers, Mike (Connie) of Hilliard, Chey (Kris) of Hilliard; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Margie Gillespie of Hide-A-Way Hills; daughter, Aimee (Toby) Underwood of Groveport; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. A member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. A Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Era. An avid bowler, who was also a coach of several youth athletic leagues. MILANO Yola Marie (Ventresca) Milano, age 79, Monday, First Community Village. Preceded in death by parents Giovanni and Clementina Lastracco Ventresca, brothers and sisters-in-law Wine and Yola Ventresco, Anna and Eugene Ventresca, Rosa and Guido Giamarco and Mary Ventresca. MONK Eleanor "Cookie" Monk, age 57, of Columbus, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 18, 2001. Preceded in death by parents George and Mary Price; brother Larry Price; former husband Joe Monk and brother-in-law Mike Kredel. McELROY Gwendolyn H. McElroy, born on February 9, 1937 and raised in Columbus, Oh. Gwen departed this life on March 16, 2001 at Franklin Woods Nursing Home. Gwen was the 2nd child out of 6 children born to the parents of Arle and Evelyn Suber. In the marriage of 35 years to Jimmie McElroy, Gwen was a devoted homemaker and a faithful member of Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church. Gwen loved listening to Gospel music, playing the organ, arts and crafts, gardening, and loved cooking, eating and fellowshipping with her family. Gwen now joins those who preceded her in death parents Arle Sr. and Evelyn Suber, sister Jane Mae Banks, brothers Arle Jr. and Leroy Suber, son William L. Suber. OHRSTEDT Margaret Carolyn (Seman) Petry Ohrstedt, age 83, of Clintonville, Sunday, March 18, 2001 at The Ohio State University Hospital. Member of Clinton Heights Lutheran Church since the 1950's, Clintonville Womens Club, Triangle Chapter #592 OES, African Violet Society and the Horticulture Club. Graduate of The Ohio State University School of Nursing in 1941 and a member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association. She was an officer in the Army Nurses Corp in WW II and after the war she continued her professional nursing career for 30 plus years in the Central Ohio Community. Preceded in death by husbands Walter Petry and Luther E. Ohrstedt, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Survived by son, Charles Luther Ohrstedt and his fiancee, Suzanne Brown of Columbus; daughter, Frances Lee Ohrstedt at Heinzerling; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2001 at the Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, 15 Clinton Heights Ave., Columbus. Pastor Max Cul! ver and William Zoltner officiating. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by husband John E. Peshek, who passed away July 22, 1980, parents Nels and Cecilia Olson Peterson, 3 brothers Olaf, Iner and Harold Peterson and 3 sisters Ellen Schrack, Clara Zimberlin and Christina Kaminsky. Survived by son, John N. (Barbara) Peshek of Pickerington, Oh.; sister, Esther Slonaker of Zanesville; 3 grandsons, John, Jeff and Jared Peshek; 2 great-granddaughters, Sarah and Kelsey Peshek.
