ALFRED Herschel Alfred, Jr., age 77, Monday, January 29, 2001 at Regency Manor. He was a member of Greater Emmanuel Church. Retired from Columbus Metropolitan Housing, and a WW II Army veteran. Preceded in death by father Herschel Alfred, brothers Maurice and Edward Alfred, sister Shirley Chambliss. Survived by loving companion, Elizabeth Alfred; daughters, Diane Alfred, Donna Jones; sons, Gregory (Sherry) Alfred, Herschel Alfred, III; mother, Rachel Rayford; brother, Napoleon Rayford; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Preceded in death by parents Emil and Clara McGlinchay Postle. Survived by loving husband of 67 years, Richard Lloyd Beath. Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Alton Cemetery. BLANKENSHIP Chrystal Blankenship, age 65, a child of God, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at Riverside Hospital. Employed by Riverside Hospital. Preceded in death by husband Ola Blankenship. Survived by son, Randy Blankenship; daughter, Debra (Dan) Laird; grandchildren, David A. Smith and A.J. Smith; great-grandson, Cameron Scott; nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the O.R. BLOCK William H. Block, age 80, of Columbus, died Monday, January 29, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1938. He retired as a Tool and Die Maker from General Motors after 40 years of service and was active with the GM Retiree's Luncheon Group. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he also served as an elder and deacon. He was also a member of Captial City #656 F. & A.M. and a 32nd degree Mason with the Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus. He was a Past Patron of Lorraine Chapter #1 O.E.S. and a current member of Community Chapter #488 O.E.S. William is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Block; daughter, Jean Martin and her partner, Mary Kay Rainey of Columbus, OH; grandson, Robert Keith (Tiffany) Martin of New Albany, OH; granddaughter, Alyssa Ann Rogers of Chillicothe, OH; and great-grandchildren, Marko Anthony Bookhammer, Lezlie Ann Marie Bookhammer and Alexandria Bogart. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, where the funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2001. Rev. BURGESS Thomas (Boolum) Burgess, age 58, Monday, January 29, 2001 at Heartland Victorian. Preceded in death by mother Emma Lee Burgess and father Ervin Stewart. Survived by daughter, Tonya Madlox; sister, Barbara Burgess Canty; brothers, Aaron (June), Francis (Sonny), Ronnie (TNT), Edward (Midge) Burgess, Edward (Rosemary) Stewart; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. COLEMAN Nellie B. Coleman, age 77, of Columbus, Wednesday, January 31, 2001, Fairfield Medical Center. She was retired from Lucent and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Survived by daughter, Barbara (John) Johnson, Groveport; grandchildren, Richard (Lora) Turjanica Jr., London, Dwayne (Annette) Johnson, Galena, Kimberly (Paul) Martell, Canal Winchester, Robert (April) Turjanica, Canal Winchester, Suzie (Dave) Cook, Junction City; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Dayton (Betty) Bussey, Parkersburg, WVa.; son-in-law, Richard Turjanica, Canal Winchester. DAWSON Constance Bayes Dawson, age 100, a resident of Upper Arlington for over seventy years, died January 25, 2001. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Dawson. Survived by children, Nathan Dawson of Upper Arlington, Elizabeth Fergus of Aspen, CO and Catherine Strickler of Louisville, KY; 6 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. DOTSON Beulah Greene Dotson, 78, of Grove City, Oh., Monday, January 22, 2001. Born September 4, 1922 in Madison, W.Va. Homemaker. Survived by sons, Junior Dotson, and Mike Dotson, both of Grove City, Oh., John Greene and Ron Greene, both of Lancaster, Oh. and Thomas Greene of Pickerington, Oh.; daughters, Darlene Butler and Drema Greene, both of Grove City, Oh., Gearldene Price of Woodville, W.Va. and Diane Pridemore, Cleveland, Oh. DZIRNE Alexander J. Dzirne, age 93, our most beloved papa and opapa, died January 28, 2001 in Dayton, Oh. Born May 28, 1907 in Cesis, Latvia. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife Marianna, his father Karlis, mother Marija, 2 brothers Rudolfs and Nikolajs, sister Lonija and son Dr. Albert Rubulis. A sister, Anna, lives in Sigulda, Latvia and a brother, Roberts in Australia. He is also survived by his loving, devoted daughter and husband, Mara and Robert Zedeker; grandson and wife, Robert and Jennifer Zedeker; grandchildren, Scott and Kristin Zedeker; daughter, Regina Purins; granddaughter, Vinete Chamberlin; great-grandchildren, Laura (Charles) Drews, Paul and Mark Kalnins; granddaughter, Andra (Dr. Jack) Marino; great-grandson, Nikolas; daughter-in-law, Inara Rubulis; grandchildren, Renard Rubulis and Regita (Dr. William) Robertson; great-grandson, Robby; nieces and nephews. In Latvia, he was Pharmacist General until the Russian Invasion, when he fled with his family to Dresden, Germany. He survived by bombings of 1945 and in 1950 he came to the U.S. and settled in Dayton. He found employment at St. Paul Lutheran Church at which time he also founded the Latvian Lutheran Congregation, to which he was elected its chairman and spiritual leader for 50 years. He also published the Latvian newsletter, "Draudzes Vestis", for 50 years. His fraternity, Lettgallia, enjoyed his very active participation for 75 years. He was a member of many civic, charitable and social organizations: Latvian Literary Circle of Dayton, American Latvian Association, Republican Naitonal Committee, Ellis Island Foundation, World War II Memorial, Smithsonian Institution, Latvian Lutheran Church, and more. His unwavering Christian faith and kindness touched so many lives. Memorial Service 2 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2001 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 239 Wayne Ave., Dayton, Oh. with Pastor George Silavs officiating. Burial Latvian Memorial Park Cemetery, Catskills, N.Y. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service. Member of Hungarian Reformed Church, attended All Saints Evangelical Lutheran Church. Former Truck Driver for Schneider Shipping. Survived by wife of 28 years, Valeria M. Furedi; children, John Furedi, Jr., Erika Furedi, Katalin Furedi; nephews, John Kepiro, George (Eva) Payer; brother, George Furedy; sister, Eva Lakatos; several sisters and other relatives in Hungary. GILMORE Joseph K. Gilmore, 65, of Granville, January 29, 2001 at the residence. Born January 31, 1935 in Evanston, Ill., son of the late James Gilmore and Catherine (Sturgeon) Gilmore. Preceded in death by parents and brother Jim Gilmore. Mr. Gilmore will be sorely missed by his devoted wife of 38 years, Sharon (Allen) Gilmore of Granville, whom he married October 4, 1963; daughter and son-in-law, Molly (Gilmore) and Michael Lally of Granville; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Kathy Gilmore of Newark, Matt and Maggie Gilmore of Westerville, Oh., who were the most important people in Mr. Gilmore's life. There are 7 grandchildren who will now be denied their Grandfather's guidance and love. "Oh for the sound of a stilled voice." Sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bob Lilly of Baltimore, Md. She loved her church and was very active as a deaconess and nurse. Preceded in death by husband Edward Grace, parents Rebecca and Will Hamlet, sister Irene Barber, brothers Willie Hamlet and Charlie Whitehead, loving niece Diane Harris, 3 nephews, 1 great-nephew. Survived by nieces, Helen (Fred) Parks, Dorothy Pharr, Charlie Mae (William) Allinson, Doris Rouse-Williams; nephews, Larry Corvin, Charles Whitehead, Curtis Whitehead; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. GRANT Walter L. Grant, age 74, departed this life Saturday, January 27, 2001 at the residence. Preceded in death by parents Willis and Martha Grant. Retired from D.C.S.C. after 33 years of service.
