AMSTUTZ Ted D. Amstutz, age 61, of Grove City, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at his residence. He owned and operated Amstutz Family Restaurant in Navarre, Ohio until 1992, was a member of Grove City United Methodist Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his mother, Betty Amstutz of Navarre; wife, Barbara Amstutz of Grove City; son, Tracy of Canton; daughter, Mrs. Ty (Shannon) Speicher of Massillon; step-daughter, Mrs. Joe (Peggy) Goett of Buckeye Lake; brother and sister-in-law, David and Gwen Amstutz of Navarre; and 4 grandchildren. BAYES Leo William Bayes, age 81, Thursday, February 1, 2001 in Lebanon, Tenn. Member of Karl Road Baptist Church. Retired from U.S. Post Office and WW II U.S. Army Veteran. Preceded in death by wife Georgetta M. Bayes and granddaughter Julie Bayes. Survived by daughters, Wanda (Robert) Meisner of Va., Wilma Adcock of Columbus, Sue (Elmer) McCoy of Columbus, Brenda (Paul) Ziats of WA; sons, Ronnie (Georgia) Bayes of Hartville, Oh. and Carl (Donna) Bayes of Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Victor Cremeans and Walter Cremeans, Jr., both of Portsmouth, Oh.; special friends, Bill and Betty Craigmile of Tenn. BAYLESS Sylvia M. Bayless, 63, of Columbus, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2001 in her residence. She was born July 28, 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio, a daughter of Walter and Helen Scott. Ms. Bayless retired from Alcoa Proctor Silex and the Chillicothe City School System. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Eric Hughey; her mother, Helen Scott and her loving and devoted sister, Elizabeth A. Scott, all of Columbus; three nieces, Tarey (Dan Cockerham) Harris, Kay Scott-Simon and Maria (Jimmy Rice) Thomas; two nephews, Garey (Evelyn) Scott and Walter L. Scott; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including very special friends, Shirley Harris of Delaware, Ohio, Margaret Highland of Chillicothe, Ohio and Mary Ellen Russell of Xenia, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father Walter Scott and two grandchildren. Visitation for Ms. Bayless will be Monday from 11 a.m. - 12noon in the First Church of God, 3480 Refugee Rd. Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday in the church with Dr. Timothy J. Clark officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or the Cancer Society. BRICKER Richard B. "Dick" Bricker, 86, of Grove City, departed his earthy life on Friday, February 2, 2001 from complications of lung cancer at Select Specialty Care. He was born September 23, 1915 in Oberlin, Pa. to the late Winfield and Cecil Bricker. Dick was a devoted horse lover, owner and trainer at Beulah Park with over 60 years of service. He was married to the late Barbara "Bobbie" Bricker of the Ohio HBPA who departed on August 12, 1992. Surviving are his 5 children, Richard (Mavis) Bricker of Clovis, N.M., Nancy (Norman) Miller of Lebanon, Tenn., Roger (Donna) Bricker of Phoenix, Ariz., Randall (Shelly) Bricker of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Ronald Bricker of Westerville; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Calling hours 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the SCHOEDINGER NORRIS CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, where the funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2001 with Rev. Louis Reynolds officiating. Interment to follow at Blendon Central Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc. or the American Cancer Society in Dick's memory.

BRUMFIELD Joseph "Joe" E. Brumfield, age 78, of Marion, formerly of Worthington, on Friday, February 2, 2001. Survived by wife of 58 years, Mary Alice; sons, Jerry (Rebecca) of Delaware, Paul of Mansfield and Jamie (Kathy) Brumfield of Powell; daughter, Candace (Perry) Wilcox of Columbus; grandchildren, Troy (Leslynn) Brumfield, Wendy (Tim) Fautz, Bryan and Adam Brumfield; step grandchildren, Tiffany, Nicole and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Kaylor and Brice Brumfield, Darian Fautz; brother Dr. Frank (Paula) Brumfield of Worthington; sister, Joyce (Frank) Guido of Bensonville, Ill. Mr. Brumfield was former owner of the Beer Vault; member of V.F.W. and an Army veteran serving during WWII. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. BURTON Donald G. Burton, 61 of Millersport, Oh., passed away Saturday, February 3, 2001 at his home. He was Co-Founder and Vice President of Burton Metal Finishing. He was a member of the Sportsman Club, Faternal Order of Eagles Aries #2801, The Etna Lions Club and NRA. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Burton; son, Robert (Jane) Burton of Johnstown, Oh.; step-children, Theresa (Donny) Frost of Thornville, Oh., Robert (Glenda) Frost of Grove City, Oh., Mark Nowlin of NC and Dave Nowlin of Ky.; four grandchildren, Blake Burton, Taylor Frost, Cory Nowlin, and Michael Nowlin; brother, Dallas (Marilyn) Burton of Grove City, Oh.; sisters, Doris Elkins of Fla., and Mary (Dave) Fail of Grove City, Oh.' many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was precede in death by mother Eleanor Wimer; father Lawrence Burton; step-father Clarence "Bud" Wimer and brother Robert Burton. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, Baltimore, Oh., with Rev. William Snider officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pataskala. CAIN Stella Marie Cain, age 81, of Columbus, Saturday, February 3, 2001, Columbus Community Hospital. Widow of John Floyd- 2000. Survived by daughter, Frances Jean Valore, Alexandria, Va.; son, Gary (Kathy) Cain, Columbus; 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; half-sister, Delia Castle- Ky. Preceded in death by son John Terry Cain- 1985; brothers and sisters Mabel Williamson, Opal Sadler, Sherman Preece Jr., Lowell O. Preece, John Preece, Emma Fannin, Virgie Fields, Frances E. CASTORANO Joseph D. Castorano, age 77, of Columbus, departed this life Thursday, February 1, 2001 at home peacefully in his sleep, after a courageous battle of many years with heart disease. Retired from the State of Ohio in March 1985, after 28 years of service. A proud veteran of WW II, who had a deep love of the flag and his country. He was a member of Hilliard Seniors Happiness Club. As an avid gardener, he had a special fondness for flowers and birds. Preceded in death by his father and mother Thomas and Wilhemia Castorano and brother Robert Castorano. Survived by devoted wife of 53 years, Hilda; and loving children, Vicki (John) Dillon, Joann (Robert) Hummel, Tom (Jeannie) Castorano and Paula (Tim) Davis; 9 grandchildren, Jessica (Paul) Cummins, Jeff Dillon, Matt McQuade, Adam (Tara) McQuade, Ian (Amy) Hummel, Michael, Shaun and Nicholas Castorano, Evan and Ray Davis; 4 great-grandchildren, Anna and Vicki Cummins, Tyler and Trevor McQuade. Also survived by brothers and sisters, Mary Musille, James, Tony, Annio and John Castorano, Elsie Pagani, Lilda Lombardi, Betty (John) Ford, Anna Jean (Ted) Scott. Also survived by sister-in-law, Rose (Jack) Overmyer; brother-in-law, Pat Capuano; sister-in-law, Ann Capuano; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Con Te Partiro (I'll go with you). CENCI Clarice E. Cenci, age 78, Friday, February 2, 2001, Mt. Carmel Medical Center. Retired from F.&R. Lazarus. Member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Preceded in death by parents Edward and Gertrude Sharfenaker; husband Pat Cenci; son Thomas Cenci; brother Ed Sharfenaker. Survived by daughter, Barbara Kilmurry; son, Charles Cenci; son-in-law, John Kilmurry; sister, Eileen Burns; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many close friends at Grovewood Place. CHOVAN Anne Esther (Sabados) Chovan, age 96, of Garfield Heights and Lewis Center, Oh., went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 3, 2001. Missionary and teacher over 71 years. Graduate of Baptist Missionary Training School, Chicago, Denison University and Wheaton College (MA), Ill. In her eighties Anne taught English in Slovakia for a year. Survived by daughter, Maryanne (Robert) Hildebrand of Columbus, Oh.; son, John S.P. (Doris) Chovan of La Verne, Calif.; grandchildren, Karl and Carissa Hildebrand, Bautista, John Jr., Michael and Rachel Chovan; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Sills, Pauline Dickey. Funeral service Tuesday 11 a.m. at Bush Funeral Home, 4334 Pearl Road, Cleveland, Ohio, 216-741-7700. Family will receive friends Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

CLOSSON Lee Closson, age 90, of Dublin, died Friday February 2, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Lee retired from the State of Ohio, Department of Corrections after 28 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret M. Closson; son, Lee (Pam) Closson of Claremore, Okla.; daughter, Susan Closson and long-time companion Kenny Pusecker of Columbus; grandchildren, Scott (Vickie) Closson and Travis Closson; great-grandchildren, Tiffaney Closson and Trenton Closson, all of Claremore, Okla.; many wonderful friends and neighbors. Lee was a member of Neoacacia Lodge #595, F&AM and attended Dublin Community Church, U.C.C. Family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High St., Worthington (614)885-4006, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday February 5, 2001. COKES Glynis Philes Cokes, age 35, Friday, Aurthur G.James Cancer Hospital after a long battle with breast cancer. Baptized witness Southeast Congregation Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses. Survived by daughter, Kaylin; sons, Jason and Jordan; parents, Samuel and Peggy Williams Jr.; sisters, Ledra, Keisha, and Daira Williams; brother, Curtis (Tammie) Williams; grandmother, Awilda Cokes; host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by grandfather Columbus Cokes, Jr.; grandparents Samuel (Mamie) Williams Sr.; step-brother Dana McDaniels. Special thanks to all family and friends for their prayers and concerns. CORDELL Golvia E. Cordell, age 78, suddenly went to be with her Lord Monday, January 29, 2001. She was a servant of the Lord for many years at Shiloh Baptist Church. She was born on March 19, 1922 in North Lewisburg, Oh. After retiring from Western Electric, she became an avid bowler with the Ten Pin Misses and Madison Leagues for many years. Preceded in death by her loving husband James Cordell and her beloved parents Jennie (Peppers) Whitehead and Ray Peppers. Leaving behind to carry on, her brother, Donald Peppers (Barclay); sister-in-law, Erdell Peppers; nieces, Marva (Phillip) Dupree and Margaret Newton; nephew, William (Trina) Peppers; a host of great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; cousins and many wonderful friends. Also a special beloved friend, former sister-in-law, Mary Clark. Funeral service Monday 11 a.m., Shiloh Baptist Church, 720 Mt. Vernon Ave. Rev. Otha Gilyard officiating. COWAN Julius L. Cowan, passed away suddenly in his home on Tuesday, January 30, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father Leo Cowan and mother Ella Mae (Cowan) Sherrod. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley A. Cowan; daughter, Terri (Bruce) Timberlake, Columbus, Oh.; sons, Marc (Deloris) Cowan, Hillsboro, Oreg., Erin and Julian Cowan, Portland, Oreg.; sister, Karyn Johnson, Columbus, Oh.; 7 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
