RYAN Francis B. Ryan, age 84, Sunday, February 4, 2001 at the Forum at Knightsbridge. Graduated from Aquinas College High School, Class of 1934 and Franklin University. Certified Public Accountant and resident partner of Campbell-Rose & Co. Past President of the Columbus Chapter of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and member and former Vice President of the Ohio Society of CPA's. Longtime and devoted member of Serra International. Conferred by Papal Appointment to the Knights of the Order of St. Gregory in 1995. Trustee and Treasurer of the Bentz Foundation. Preceded in death by daughter Sally. Survived by wife, Lois (Ikey) Ryan; daughters, Mary Sue (John) Nantz, Patricia (Kurt) Ringle, Colleen (Ralph) Miller, Amy Ryan and fiancee, Jeff Bryner; son, Jack F. Ryan; son-in-law, David T. STEVENS Deborah S. Stevens, age 40, Sunday, February 4, 2001 at home after a brave battle with cancer. Kindergarten teacher at the Huy Elementary School. Graduate of Bowling Green State University and received masters degree from The Ohio State University. Survived by parents, Anita and Gordon Stevens; brothers, Jeffrey (Debbie) Stevens and Craig Stevens; sister, Diane Stevens; niece, Ashley; nephews, David and Matthew; grandmother, Leola Brown; several aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of life will be held Thursday 1 p.m. at the SHAW-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME BEECHWOLD-CLINTONVILLE CHAPEL, 4341 N. TAYLOR James H. Taylor, age 76, of Columbus, February 6, 2001 at Grant Medical Center. Original member of the Columbus Fire Department's Heavy Rescue Squad, known at that time as The Fire Squad. Retired after 30 years from Station 17, Rescue 17, 3 Unit. Retired member of Local #67 of Columbus Fire Department and 4 Unit of Columbus Fire. Member of South Gate Lodge #692 F&AM, Aladdin Shrine Temple, Aladdin Medical Unit, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. Lifetime member of Charity Newsies. U.S. Navy Veteran, WW II. Member of VFW Post #495, where he played on the baseball team and was an avid softball player with the Old Timers League. Dedicated fan of the New York Yankees. Preceded in death by parents Harry and Marie Taylor, brothers Fred, Irvin and Bob Taylor, sister Mary Louise. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Mary Taylor of Upper Arlington; granddaughter, Jamie; former wife, Fran Taylor of Upper Arlington; brothers, Bill (Josie) Taylor and Dick Taylor of Columbus; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. TERRILL Rowena Faye Terrill, age 63, of Westerville, Monday, February 5, 2001 at home, after a year long battle with cancer. Born April 23, 1937 in Montgomery County, Ky. to Wesley and Marie (Adkins) Trent. Grew up in Hazel Green, Wolfe County, Ky. and attended Hazel Green Academy. Faye enjoyed making quilts, cooking, baking cookies, pies and cakes. Preceded in death by parents and sister Nell Cox. Survived by husband, George; daughter, Brenna (Craig) Bergman; granddaughters, Haley, Jordan and Gretchen, all of Westerville; sisters, Jean Matthew of Tucson, Ariz., Wanda (Russell) Profitt of Hazel Green, Ky.; brother, William (Carolyn) Trent of West Carrolton, Oh.; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville, Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where service will be held at 8 p.m. Pastor Ken Roberts officiating. THOMAS James (Pto) Albert Thomas, 77, a native of Athens, Oh., who graduated from East High School in Columbus and earned bachelor and master's degrees from The Ohio State University, died January 10, 2001 after a long illness. Dr. Thomas, who held a doctorate from American University in Washington, D.C., started his career in 1949 at the Air Material Command at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton and went on to hold supervisory research psychologist positions at the Army's Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel in Washington, D.C. and at Goodyear Aerospace Corporation in Akron, Oh. He ended his government career as Chief of the Army Research Institute Field Unit at the Presidio of Monterey in Calif. Among his outstanding awards were both the U.S. Air Force's and the U.S. Army's Meritorious Civilian Service Awards. In 1980, he was the recipient of the American Psychological Association's Outstanding military Psychology Award for outstanding scientific and professional contributions to military psychology. Dr. Thomas was a veteran of WW II and a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years Lucretia Anne Thomas, a native of Columbus, Oh. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Shelley Anne Thomas of Alexandria, Va. The memorial service will be held at St. Philips Lutheran Church, 1506 East Long St., Columbus, Oh.

VARNEY Franklin D. Varney, age 68, of Pataskala, February 5, 2001 at Arbors East. Member of Hilock Fellowship Church. Preceded in death by parents John and Lucinda Varney. Survived by wife of 50 years, Hattie; sons, Del (Joan) Varney of Orient, Oh. and Ed (Terri) Varney of Fla.; daughters, Cinda (Rev. Tim) Thompson of Ariz. and Wanda (Rod) Smith of Columbus; grandchildren, Joanie (Daren), Charissa, Erin, Chad, Jonathan, Derrick, Eric and Sarah; great-grandson, Daren; sisters, Pearl Browning, Tennie Evans and Loretta Fostor; many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at GRAUMLICH & SON FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., where service will be held Thursday 11 a.m. (1 hour visitation prior to service). Rev. VanVOORHIS Dorothy Wilking (Allen) VanVoorhis, died February 5, 2001 at the Forum at Knightsbridge. Born October 6, 1911 in Zanesville, Oh., to the late George H. and Anna Louise Riemann Wilking. Preceded in death by husbands John Rutter Allen, Daniel VanVoorhis III and twin sister Frances (M. DeWitt) Norris. Dottie graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1933 with a Bachelor of Arts. She was President of Delta Gamma Sorority, president of Orchesis, a National Dancing Organization, LeBijou Beauty Queen her junior and senior year. Following graduation she taught in Zanesville Elementary School System, where she also taught social ballroom dancing. She was a life member of Dance Masters of America. Dottie was very active in her community, a member of the All Around Club since 1944, Beaux Arts Club, Charter member of Junior Assembly, board member YWCA, Day Nursery Board, Junior Bethesda League, Muskingum Chapter of the D.A.R., Zane Garden Club, Zanesville Art Center and the Zanesville Country Club. While a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, she embroidered a set of six paraments and pastoral stoles to be used during various seasons of the church year. As a member of First Community Church, she participated in the Burkhart Chapel Chair project. In 1979, Dottie was one of three women from throughout the country to receive a Certificate of Honor in needlepoint, from the Valentine Textile Museum, in Richmond, Va., the highest award given in its pestigious needlepoint program. To receive this award, Dottie adapted and stitched in needlepoint and silk petit point, the designs from the ancient Burmese textile collection at Denison University. Dottie was a teacher and a member of the Columbus Chapter of the Embroiders Guild of America, and of the National Academy of Needle Arts. She taught all levels of needlepoint design and techniques. Her canvas work is in the permanent collection at the Zanesville Art Center. Dottie, more importantly that all of her accomplishments was her exemplary role model as a mother. She is survived by son, John W. Allen of Zanesville; daughter, Anne (John) Clifford; grandchildren, Cristin (Craig) Sturtz, John W. Clifford, Jr; great-grandchildren, Kara and Erin Sturtz, all of Columbus, Oh.; niece, Marilyn (Dick) Lewis of Chicago, Ill.; and nephew, George (Linda) Norris of Worthington, Oh. No calling hours will be held. Memorial Service will be Thursday, February 8, 2001 at the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 830 military Road, Zanesville, Oh. at 1 p.m., where friends may call from 12Noon till service time. Rev. Alexander McDougall will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to The Childhood League Center, 670 South 18th Street, Columbus, Oh. 43205 or to the charity of your choice. Member of St. Paul A.M.E., where she served on the Usher and Steward Boards. Survived by her husband, Roger Williams; daughters, Anita Nowell, Drina Smith and Virginia (Eugene) Collins; sons, David (Meg) MacFarlane of Las Vegas and Roger (Diane) Williams of Milwaukee, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. WILLIAMS Mardo Williams, 95, died Saturday, February 3, 2001. He resided at the Village at Westerville Retirement Center. A former reporter for the Kenton News-Republican. Former business columnist for the Columbus Dispatch. He became a published author at the age of 90 with his books 'Maude (1883-1993) She Grew Up with the Country' and 'Great-Grandpa Fussy and the Little Puckerdoodles'. A member of Latham Lodge F&AM in Kenton, Oh. and the Scottish Rite. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Kay Williams of New York City, NY and Jerri (Fred) Williams Lawrence; grandchildren, Kathy (Tim) Israel and Tim (Amy) Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Holly, Dan, Christopher and Katy Israel and Jacob Lawrence; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Geneva Williams, sisters Mildred Perry, Beatrice Deerwester and Pauline Ansley. Family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, where the Funeral Service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2001. Chapel St. Preceded in death by husband Ardie Williams, mother Allie Wooten Graham, son Emmett, daughter Ledora Martin, sisters Lula Robinson and Susie Hawkins, brother Levi Wooten, Sr., special nephew Levi Wooten, Jr. and great-grandson Eric Ray. Retired from Bond Bakery and Virginia Lee Apartments. Mary accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and served The Lord in word and deed. Faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 42 years. Served as President, Vice President and Treasurer of Willing Workers Club. Also crowned Willing Workers Queen. Survived by daughters, Marie Walker Belton, Elaine Peebles and Edith Jefferson; daughter-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Williams; grandchildren, James Jr. and Thurman Walker, Marsha Ray, Michael (Shirley) Peebles, Jacqueline (Thomas) Joyce, Linda, Paul, Roger Williams and John Elamin; 25 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; mother to special niece, Denise Wooten, who she raised as her own daughter; nieces, Susie Hairston-Jordan and Rosalee Hunter; dear friend, Lynn Walker; God daughter, Cynthia Faison Harris; and a host of other relatives and friends.
