NELSON Verna Mae Nelson, age 72, February 3, 2001 at the residence. Retired employee of Bureau of Workers Compensation. Columbus area cosmetologist. Member of Broad St. Christian Church. Preceded in death by husband Anthony Nelson and mother Evelyn Grace Preston Watkins. Survived by children, Cecilia Jones, Vernetta (Ralph) Jefferson III, Lynda Nelson Durr and Anthony Quinn (Lynnette Hayes) Nelson; grandchildren, Shanna, Joseph, Lyndnae, Maggie, Duane, Lauren and Terrence; great-granddaughter, Kiera; brothers, Robert Henry "Jim" (Myrtle Lee) Preston and William S. (Betty J.) Preston; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial Service Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Broad St. Christian Church, 1049 E. OSWALD Bernice Emily (Shomber) Oswald, age 85, of Upper Arlington, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Whetstone Care Center. She was born January 19, 1916 in Spokane, WA. She was married to James J. Oswald on October 5, 1940. They moved from Park Ridge, IL to Upper Arlington in 1964, where she lived until five years ago when she moved to Westminster/Thurber Retirement Community. She attended Northwestern University. She worked as an Executive Secretary for the track coaches in The Ohio State University Athletic Department in the late 1960's and 1970's. She was an active volunteer at both Riverside Methodist Hospital and The Ohio State University Medical Center for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Jim in 1999. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Carol Oswald; daughter and son-in-law, Mari-jean and Richard Siehl; grandchildren, Kristin and Jimmy Oswald. Friends may call Thursday, February 8, 2001 from 6-8:00 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2001 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 6770 North High Street, Worthington. Interment Union Cemetery. RIFE Chester Harold Rife, age 87, of Hilliard, Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at the Convalarium at Indian Run. Preceded in death by brothers and sister. Former co-owner of Rife's Market and former owner of Rife Hardware Store in Hilliard. Retired Sales Associate of Lazarus Department Store. Member of St. John Lutheran Church of Dublin and former member of Grace Lutheran Church, Arcadia, Fla. Survived by beloved wife of 67 years, Vera; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Frank Oyster of Hilliard; grandsons, Randy and Robyn Oyster of Tipp City, Oh., Ryan Oyster of Columbus; great-granddaughters, Morgan and Mikayla Oyster of Tipp City; brother, Paul Rife of Wis.; sister, Janet Wygle of Marion, Oh. RILEY Tammy S. Riley, age 33, of Tacoma Rd., Columbus, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at 6:14 a.m. in St. Ann's Hospital. She was born on August 27, 1967 in Ga. to James H. Redmon Jr. who survives in Loudenville, Oh. and the late Dixie L. (Goodwin) Redmon. On May 28, 1998, she married Dan L. Riley who survives. She graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1985. She had worked at American Para Professional System, living several years in Columbus. Survivors include her father; step-mother, Chris L. (Smith) Redmon; sister, Lisa A. (Tony) Pahl of Marion; in-laws, David M. and Donna (Thompson) Riley of Columbus; 1 niece; 1 nephew. SERIO Gus Serio, 78, Logan, Oh., formerly of Columbus, Oh., died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at his residence after an extended illness. Born January 23, 1923 in Columbus, Oh., son of the late Gus Serio and Blanche (Fletcher) Serio Monett. Mr. Serio retired as a Master Technician in Metallurgy from Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, after 44 years of service. A January 1941 graduate of South High School in Columbus, Oh. A WW II Army Air Corps veteran, serving as a turret gunner on a B-25 in the Pacific. Member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Logan, Oh. Member of Central Ohio Home Plate Club in Columbus, Oh. Survived by wife, Martha V. (Schleppi) Serio, Logan, Oh.; son, Michael (Kay) Serio, Cincinnati, Oh.; daughter, Mrs. Philip (Diana) Young, Troy, Oh.; grandchildren, Katie Ann Serio, Cincinnati, Oh., Michael (Natasha) Young, Highland Ranch, Colo., Scott Young, Cincinnati, Oh.; great-grandson, Ian Young, Highland Ranch, Colo.; he leaves many friends who claimed him as their best friend. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-father Shirlich M. Monett and 2 brothers Robert and James Serio. SILLMON Walter Sillmon, age 36, Saturday, February 3, 2001 at Grant Medical Center. Preceded in death by mother Betty Williams. Survived by his father, John E. SMITH Helen Reilly Smith, of Upper Arlington, Oh., passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital on Wednesday, February 7, 2001. A devoted wife and mother Michael Reilly, brothers Richard, Jim, Bill and Paul Reilly. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Richard "Harpo" Smith of Upper Arlington; daughters, Sandy (Tom) Moorehead of Westerville, Stephanie (Dr. Stephen) Hutcheson of Lancaster, Sally (George) Stauffer of Columbus, Suzette (Bob) Saltsman of Upper Arlington, Stacie (Tom) Potter of Upper Arlington; son, Sean Smith of Columbus; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Reilly of Dresden, Betty Coyle of Zanesville and Patty Armsbrust of Dresden; brothers, Charles (Betty) Reilly of Zanesville and Larry Reilly of Dresden; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be at the HILLIS FUNERAL HOME, 935 Forest Ave., Zanesville, Oh. on Friday, February 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday. STURDIVANT Robert Lee Sturdivant, age 65, February 5, 2001 at Grant Hospital. Employee of U.S. Postal Service. Preceded in death by parents William and Pinkey Sturdivant and brother William Sturdivant, Jr. Survived by sister, Shirley Burton; niece, Faye Burton; and other relatives and friends. Graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery, 1401 Woodland Ave., Friday, February 9, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Weymon Dozier officiating. CROSBY FUNERAL HOME, serving the family.

TAYLOR Everett B. Taylor III, 66. Born 15 October 1934, Columbus, Oh. His future address will be Heaven 6 February 2001 from Mt. Carmel East. A heart attack occurred on 31 January 2001. We will celebrate his life and recall many fond memories. He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Hoodlet) Taylor, married 22 July 1956 and to that union there is no issue. Everett graduated from Upper Arlington, Class of 1952, then attended OSU. He started out as a steeplejack in the family business; worked in management at Stouffer's, Crown Inn and Park-A-Lot, Inc. He established his own business, Dis-Ko Services, Inc. in 1987, and had been retired since 1992. He is a member of the Columbus Maennerchor, Franklin County Genealogical & Historical Society, The Benjamin Franklin Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, American Pomeranian Club and a past Board of Directors of the Ohio Valley Pomeranian Club. Everett touched many lives and those who met him will always remember him as the family historian. Telling narrations of the lives and incidences of families was his forte'. Everett enjoyed gospel singing and last attended The First Pentecostal Gospel Church, Sunday 28 January 2001. He will be missed by many. Also survived by his sisters, Elizabeth S. McKnights, Columbus, Oh., Pamela (husband, Bill Fox), Indian Springs, Oh.; sister-in-law, Evelyn (husband, Frank Hunter), Alpena, Mich.; brother-in-law, Bernard Hanhilammi, Galena, Oh.; 7 nephews; 7 nieces; 7 grand-nephews; 2 grand-nieces; 1 uncle; 2 aunts; a special cousin, Marylou E. Myers; many cousins, friends, neighbors and 4 pomeranians. Preceded in death by grandparents Everett B. and Sena F. (Fultz) Taylor Sr., James D. and Lizzie D. (Myers) Grover, (all 4 grandparents were ministers in the Apostolic Faith), father and mother Everett B. and Ada Kathryn (Grover) Taylor, sister Peggy A. TAYLOR James H. Taylor, age 76, of Columbus, February 6, 2001 at Grant Medical Center. Original member of the Columbus Fire Department's Heavy Rescue Squad, known at that time as The Fire Squad. Retired after 30 years from Station 17, Rescue 17, 3 Unit. Retired member of Local #67 of Columbus Fire Department and 4 Unit of Columbus Fire. Member of South Gate Lodge #692 F&AM, Aladdin Shrine Temple, Aladdin Medical Unit, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. Lifetime member of Charity Newsies. U.S. Navy Veteran, WW II. Member of VFW Post #495, where he played on the baseball team and was an avid softball player with the Old Timers League. Dedicated fan of the New York Yankees. Preceded in death by parents Harry and Marie Taylor, brothers Fred, Irvin and Bob Taylor, sister Mary Louise. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Mary Taylor of Upper Arlington; granddaughter, Jamie; former wife, Fran Taylor of Upper Arlington; brothers, Bill (Josie) Taylor and Dick Taylor of Columbus; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends Friday 2 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. at GRAUMLICH & SON FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St. Pastor Floyd L. Stolzenburg officiating. TERRILL Rowena Faye Terrill, age 63, of Westerville, Monday, February 5, 2001 at home, after a year long battle with cancer. Born April 23, 1937 in Montgomery County, Ky. to Wesley and Marie (Adkins) Trent. Grew up in Hazel Green, Wolfe County, Ky. and attended Hazel Green Academy. Faye enjoyed making quilts, cooking, baking cookies, pies and cakes. Preceded in death by parents and sister Nell Cox. Survived by husband, George; daughter, Brenna (Craig) Bergman; granddaughters, Haley, Jordan and Gretchen, all of Westerville; sisters, Jean Matthew of Tucson, Ariz., Wanda (Russell) Profitt of Hazel Green, Ky.; brother, William (Carolyn) Trent of West Carrolton, Oh.; numerous nieces and nephews. VARNER Charles S. Varner, 71, of Reynoldsburg, died at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on Tuesday, February 6, 2001. Charles was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Retired from Timken Roller Bearing, also worked for Sears Hardware. Member of Masonic Goodale Lodge #372 F&AM and AmVets. Survived by his wife, Mariam Varner; mother, Virginia Varner of Parkersburg, W.Va.; 4 step-children; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several cousins. Preceded in death by his father Harley E. Varner. Friends may call at WARREN F. KAUBER FUNERAL HOME, Pataskala on Thursday, February 8, 2001 from 4-6 p.m., where funeral service will start at 6 p.m. Pastor Ron Tiller officiating.
