DEVINE Douglas A. Devine, age 32, a resident of Cincinnati, formerly of Columbus, suddenly Wednesday, February 14, 2001. Beloved husband and best friend of Pamela J. Devine (Johnson); loving father of Cole D. Devine; devoted son of Lois J. and the late Jack Devine; dear brother of Jill Devine, Erin (Andy) Hofmann and the late Danny Devine; son-in-law of Robert and Mary Johnson. Gardner Elloise Marie Gardner, 78, of Grove City, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Lebanon Country Manor Nursing Home. She was retired from 3M and was a member of Moose Lodge #11. Elloise is survived by her husband of 60 years, Oscar Gardner; sons, Richard (Jackie) Gardner of Grove City, John Gregory (Mindy) Gardner of Columbus, Larry (Judy) Gardner of Columbus and Brian (Carol) Gardner of Mt. Sterling; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Whity of Columbus. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the SCHOEDINGER NORRIS CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City. GILL Dorothy E. A. Gill, 82, of Lucasville, Ohio, died Thursday, February 15, 2001 at Pleasant Hill Manor in Piketon, Ohio. She was born August 9, 1919 in Hillsboro, Illinois, a daughter of the late Charles G. and Wilhelmina Gramlich Lippert. She is survived by her husband, Maurice V. Gill, whom she married July 16, 1941 in Portsmouth, Oh.; two daughters, Deborah Sanford of Holly Pond, Ala. and Gretchen Stinson of Jasper, Oh.; two sons, Maurice V. Gill II of London, Oh. and Michael L. Gill of Chillicothe, Oh.; one sister, Wilma Kelley of Kokomo, Ind.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was a retired Juvenile Probation Officer, member of the Portsmouth Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Second Presbyterian Church and a 1937 graduate of Dunkirk High School in Dunkirk, Ind. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McKINLEY FUNERAL HOME in Lucasville, with Paul Gregory officiating. Burial will be in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Saturday and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

HAWKINS Rev. Msgr. Stephen Bryan Hawkins, age 51, Thursday, February 15, 2001. Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Grove City. Ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1975 and named Monsignor by Pope John Paul II on August 28, 1999. Attended St. Charles Preparatory High School, Ohio Dominican College and Mt. St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati. Monsignor was a Deacon at St. Pius X and then Diocesan Vocations Director. Became Associate Pastor at Newark, St. Francis DeSales and then Columbus, St. Anthony Parishes. Past Pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Pickerington, Oh. Member of the Knights of Columbus and A.O.H. Division 1. Survived by parents, Mel and Mary Catherine; brothers and sisters-in-law, Deacon Mickey and Patty, Mark and Jody, J. David and Wendy; sister-in-law, Diane; nieces and nephews, Scott, Joe, Dan, Karen, Tim, Becky, Bryan, Cindy, Stephen, Tammy, Michael, Nicole and Kris Leary, Kristin, David, Maura; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; special friend, Fr. Patrick Sena, CPPS; his faithful dog, Bailey. Reception of the Body Sunday 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. HEFFERNAN Alfred J. Heffernan, age 72, of Centerville, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2001 at Hospice of Dayton. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Mildred (Malone) Heffernan. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth; 2 sons survive him, Donald A. Heffernan and wife, Kelley of Columbus, Oh. and Thomas J. Heffernan and wife, Amy of Oak Hill, Va.; 3 daughters also survive him, Amy Bruggeman and husband, Jerry of West Palm Beach, Fla., Nancy C. Hanzel and husband, Doug of Savannah, Ga., Jane White and husband, Larry of Dayton; 8 grandchildren also survive him, Cory Heffernan, Matthew, Megan and Michelle Bruggeman, Katie and Drew Hanzel and Kimberly and Julie Heffernan; 2 brothers survive him, Robert Heffernan of Royal Oak, Mich. and Joseph Heffernan of Geneva, N.Y.; as well as a special brother-in-law, Gordon Williams of Dayton; several loving nieces and nephews. Alfred was retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he was the Senior Supervisory Special Agent for the Dayton Field Office and from the University of Dayton, where he was a lecturer on Criminal Justice. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and belonged to the Knights of Columbus St. Leonard Council #10215 and the American Legion Post #598 of Kettering. He was active in senior softball and participated in the Senior Olympics in Orlando, Fla. in 1998 and was a lifelong member of the Nester Hose Fire Department. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Centerville at the Incarnation Catholic Church on Monday February 19, 2001 at 10 a.m. Fr. Dan Meyer officiating. Prayers will be offered at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning. Friends may call at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd. in Centerville on Sunday February 18 from 5-9 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will perform a rosary service at the funeral home at 8 p.m. on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may make charitable contributions to Hospice of Dayton or the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Alfred's memory.

HENKE Barbara Pfeiffer Henke, 71, of 26727 Cash Court, Leesburg, Fla., died Thursday, February 15, 2001. Born in Seward, Neb. and moved to Columbus, Oh. in 1984. Mrs. Henke was a retired Secretary from Columbus, Ohio School System. Member of Lake Square Presbyterian Church. She was a Hospice volunteer. Survived by husband, Orvis L. Henke, Leesburg, Fla.; sons, John Pfeiffer, Dublin, Oh., David Pfeiffer (Virginia), Anahein, Calif.; daughters, Kathy Tatman (Geoff), Bardstown, Ky. and Nancy Sappenfield (Buck), Chattanooga, Tenn.; step-son, Robert Henke, Leesburg, Fla.; sister, Mary Root (Clyde), Lincoln, Neb.; 11 grandchildren.
