DICKERSON John W. Dickerson Sr., age 89, of Stygler Village, Gahanna, died Friday, February 16, 2001 at University Hospital. Born August 20, 1911 in Harpersville, Alabama to parents Benjamin and Emma Dickerson. Retired from Claycraft Brick Co. A former member of the Ohio National Guard and a member of Amvets Post #89. Preceded in death by parents; son John W. Dickerson Jr. and brother George Dickerson. Survived by wife of 51 years, Neomi Dickerson; daughters, Norma Jean Riser of Columbus, Joann and husband, Race Harder of Columbus, Deborah Somdahl of Reynoldsburg; stepdaughters, Joyce Chrysler of Columbus, Nancy and husband, David Stewart of Johnstown, Patricia DeVault of Johnstown; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Emery Kitzmiller of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Margaret Dickerson of Graysville, Ala. and Dorothy Shirk of Gahanna; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Monday at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. GALILEI (CARFAGNA) Sofia M. (Carfagna) Galilei, age 78, Saturday, February 17, 2001. Preceded in death by parents Anna (Priore) and Eduardo Carfagna. She is the widow of Anthony M. Galilei, August 10, 1987; also preceded by sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rose and Louis Di Paolo. Sofia is a charter member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She held membership in St. Andrew's Women's Club, Focolare Movement, Mello Naires of St. Matthias, Amici D'Oro, S.F.I. Auxiliary, Damen Sektion of the Columbus Maennerchor, Wing 54 of Nightingale Cottage, Guilianova Teramo Auxiliary, O-NI-KA-PA Alumni of Camp Fire, Inc. She was the founder of the Northwest Civic Association. Sofia is survived by her children, Jerry Edward of Byron, Mich., Michael (Beverly) of Parker, Colo., Christopher A. (Vicki) and Therese M. (Donald) Roush, all of Columbus; grandchildren, David A. Griffiths; sons, Jon (Karen) of Greensboro, N.C., Glenn (Kay) of Galloway, Oh.; grandchildren, Rob, Justin, Carrie, Eric (Kelly) and Adam; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Alex; many nieces and nephews. HAENSZEL Elisabeth "Betty" Haenszel, born May 16, 1924, died Saturday, February 17, 2001. She is preceded in death by her daughter Bessi Miller. She is survived by her sons, George and Gary Haenszel; daughter-in-law, Laurie Haenszel; grandchildren, Matthew, John and Ellen. Funeral services will be private. HANNA Kendall K. Hanna, born June 1, 1927, died suddenly Saturday, February 17, 2001. He was the Owner and Operator of Twin Auto Towing. He is preceded in death by his sister Marie Bond. His is survived by his wife, Ann; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Kimberly Hanna; grandchildren, Kelli Jo (Al) and Justin; great-granddaughter, Maddison; twin brother, Kenneth; nephews, Scott (Holly) Hanna, Roger (Janette) Hanna, and Jim (Mary) Wolfe; niece, Melissa Brothers, and her son, Devin. HAWKINS Rev. Msgr. Stephen Bryan Hawkins, age 51, Thursday, February 15, 2001. Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Grove City. Ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1975 and named Monsignor by Pope John Paul II on August 28, 1999. Attended St. Charles Preparatory High School, Ohio Dominican College and Mt. St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati. Monsignor was a Deacon at St. Pius X and then Diocesan Vocations Director. Became Associate Pastor at Newark, St. Francis DeSales and then Columbus, St. Anthony Parishes. Past Pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Pickerington, Oh. Member of the Knights of Columbus and A.O.H. Division 1. Survived by parents, Mel and Mary Catherine; brothers and sisters-in-law, Deacon Mickey and Patty, Mark and Jody, J. David and Wendy; sister-in-law, Diane; nieces and nephews, Scott, Joe, Dan, Karen, Tim, Becky, Bryan, Cindy, Stephen, Tammy, Michael, Nicole and Kris Leary, Kristin, David, Maura; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; special friend, Fr. Patrick Sena, CPPS; his faithful dog, Bailey. Reception of the Body Sunday 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. HICKS Dewey S. Hicks Jr., 76, of Columbus, died Saturday, February 17, 2001, 3 a.m., at the Columbus Rehabilitation Center. He was born October 14, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of Dewey S. Sr. and Ethel Hicks. He was a member of the Antioch Community Church and was a retired conductor from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. He is survived by his wife, L. Etta (White) Hicks, to whom he was married for 59 years; daughter, Renee G. (Michael) Louden of Columbus, Rebecca J. (David) Oliver of Washington Court House; grandchildren, Michelle Perigo, Dewey S. Schaub, Autumn D. Bouchier and Jeanette M. Miller; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Ervin Hicks and Earl Hicks, both of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Debra R. Lugenbil; brother, Charles L. Hicks and sister Ida Mae Hicks. The family invites friends to call at the Antioch Community Church, Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at the church with the Reverend James Blankenship officiating. HIRTZEL Pamela Hirtzel, 47, of Dublin, Oh., passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 16, 2001. Born on November 23, 1953, she was the daughter of George and the late Alice (Bedeian) Vartanian of Oak Park, Ill. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Harland; and her cherished daughters, Christina Marie and Elizabeth Ann; sisters, Sara (Tim) Sweeney of Hammond, Ind., and Catherine Duke of Oak Park, Ill.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and one niece, three nephews; and many dear friends. Visitation will be Monday, February 19, 2001 at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 W. Olentangy St. (Powell Rd.), Powell, Oh., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 7179 Avery Rd. Admired by family and friends for her unrelenting courage and passion for life, Pamela's bright smile, sense of humor, and strength of spirit will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she so graciously and warmly touched.
