GARVIN Carol W. Garvin, 55, of Tallahassee, Fla. died Thursday. The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Christ Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee, Fla. with burial at Meadow Wood Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the church. HAWKINS Rev. Msgr. Stephen Bryan Hawkins, age 51, Thursday, February 15, 2001. Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Grove City. Ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1975 and named Monsignor by Pope John Paul II on August 28, 1999. Attended St. Charles Preparatory High School, Ohio Dominican College and Mt. St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati. Monsignor was a Deacon at St. Pius X and then Diocesan Vocations Director. Became Associate Pastor at Newark, St. Francis DeSales and then Columbus, St. Anthony Parishes. Past Pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Pickerington, Oh. Member of the Knights of Columbus and A.O.H. Division 1. Survived by parents, Mel and Mary Catherine; brothers and sisters-in-law, Deacon Mickey and Patty, Mark and Jody, J. David and Wendy; sister-in-law, Diane; nieces and nephews, Scott, Joe, Dan, Karen, Tim, Becky, Bryan, Cindy, Stephen, Tammy, Michael, Nicole and Kris Leary, Kristin, David, Maura; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; special friend, Fr. HIRTZEL Pamela Hirtzel, 47, of Dublin, Oh., passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 16, 2001. Born on November 23, 1953, she was the daughter of George and the late Alice (Bedeian) Vartanian of Oak Park, Ill. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Harland; and her cherished daughters, Christina Marie and Elizabeth Ann; sisters, Sara (Tim) Sweeney of Hammond, Ind., and Catherine Duke of Oak Park, Ill.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and one niece, three nephews; and many dear friends. Visitation will be Monday, February 19, 2001 at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 W. Olentangy St. (Powell Rd.), Powell, Oh., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 7179 Avery Rd. Admired by family and friends for her unrelenting courage and passion for life, Pamela's bright smile, sense of humor, and strength of spirit will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she so graciously and warmly touched.

HUGHES Richard L. Hughes Jr., 71, passed from this life into the Lord's full and complete rest on February 17, 2001 after a courageous two-year struggle with lung cancer. He was born August 14, 1929 in Crooksville, Ohio the son of Edna (Sanborn) and Richard L. Hughes Sr. He was a 51-year member of First Presbyterian Church of London, Ohio where he had served as Deacon and Superintendent of Sunday School. He was a retired employee of the Ohio Edison Company with 41 years service. He is survived by a loving wife of 52 years, Jane (Dowler) Hughes and five children, daughter, Debra Ellen (David) Wolverton of London; sons, Richard L. (Susan) Hughes, III and David J. (Marilyn) Hughes all of London, Dana (Nita) Hughes of Grove City and Philip L. Hughes of San Ramon, Ca.; granddaughters, Kim, Kara and Kelli Hughes, Rachel and Klaire Wolverton all of London and Staci Hughes of Grove City; grandson, D.J. Hughes of London; step-granddaughter, Amber Wolverton of Ada, Ohio and one great-grandson, Daelin of Grove City; sisters, Norma McCandless of London and Jane Snyder of Columbus; brother, Urias (Florence) Hughes of London; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear and devoted friends, especially Betty and Bob Eades of London. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Cyril, Ermil and Lloyd. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church of London with Reverend Gordon Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Somerford Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday. HUTCHISON Sidney Marie Hutchison, age 105, died Saturday, February 17, 2001, at Friendship Village of Dublin Health Center. Born May 11, 1895 in Bristol, Ohio to George and Matilda Soegaard. Sidney and Dencil Lee Hutchison were married July 3, 1920, and were residents of Perry County for more than 75 years. Dick was a blacksmith and home builder. Sidney was a founding member of the First Church of God in New Lexington, Ohio. Dick died in December, 1978 and in 1984 Sidney moved to Columbus. She is survived by her son, Dr. Jack Hutchison and his wife, Betty Jo; five grandchildren, Lee Hutchison and wife, Laurel, Jo Wayman and husband, Gene, Kris Beaver, Dena Pyle and husband, Stan, Jeff Hutchison and wife, Kim; nine great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jody Hutchison, Kara Wayman, Bryan, Chad and Karli Beaver, Kristina Pyle, Jacob and Kelly Hutchison. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Rd., Columbus. Reverend James R. Cook and Reverend Robert I. Mathis officiating. Friends may call at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2001 and Wednesday from 2-3 p.m. at the church. KAHLER John R. Kahler of Worthington, formerly of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Sandusky, Oh. passed away Friday, February 16, 2001 following a lengthy illness. He was born November 26, 1911 in Sandusky, Oh., the son of John Henry and Emma Leslie Kahler. He was a 1933 & 1934 graduate of The Ohio State University with degrees in liberal arts and education and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa as well as the cross country team. John was a history teacher and athletic director at Sandusky High School for 10 years. He retired from Sandusky Foundry Machine Co. after 32 years serving as treasurer and vice-president in charge of finance and European operations. He also served as Sandusky City Councilman and Mayor. He served as treasurer of Sandusky Good Samaritan Hospital, was past president of Financial Executives Institute and a Master Mason of the Ohio Masonic Lodge. John retired to Florida where he was a broker and vice president for Roy A. Glisson Realty for 15 years. He was also an Advisory Board member of First Union Bank in Wellington and chairman of the Palms West Hospital volunteer program. He and his wife, Joan, also served as chairmen of the Wellington Seniors. John also served as a personal and corporate financial consultant in both Ohio and Florida. He was an avid golfer and tennis player holding memberships at Plum Brook Country Club and Palm Beach Polo Country Club. John will be fondly remembered as loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend with a sharp wit, drive for perfection and a clear understanding of what is important in life. John is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; brother, Dick (Jean); sister, Dorothy Ritter of Seattle, Wash.; children, Jacqueline Hamblin of Oneonta, NY, Donna Devaney of Kincardine, Ontario, David (Barbara) Kahler of Port Clinton, Oh., Kathy (Joseph) Haase of Worthington, Oh., Ginny (Neil) Sweeney of Spring Valley, NY, William (Camille) Busch of Spring Valley, NY, Carol Packer of Sarasota, Fla., Doris (Steve) Ottmer of Bricktown, NJ and Robert (Annette) Busch of Clifton, NJ; fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; wives Dorothy and Corinne; sister Gladys; brother Edwin. At John's request a private family service will be held followed by cremation. KNAPP Delbert Gale Knapp, age 78, of Point Pleasant, W.Va., died February 17, 2001 at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Oh. He was a member of Krebs Chapel Church in Pt. Pleasant. He attended Harvey Chapel Church in Leon, W.Va. and Grace Memorial Church in Columbus, Oh. Born August 26, 1922 in Leon, W.Va. to the late George M. and Myrtle (Cossin) Knapp. Delbert was also preceded in death by 2 sisters Opal Baker and Lora Carney, 2 brothers Mose Knapp and Rev. Okey Knapp, and nephew George A. Wooten. Survivors include a sister, Mary DeWees of Columbus; sister-in-law, Helen Knapp of Grove City; many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at GRAUMLICH & SON FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., where service will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. Rev. Lee Tabor officiating. Interment Obetz Cemetery.

LEFTWICH Opal N. Leftwich, age 86, of Columbus, Oh., Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Preceded in death by husband William E. Leftwich, II; sisters Willie Clyde Kelley and Mevelyn Watkins Cook. Survived by sons, James W. Lee, Jr. of Cathadel City, Calif., William E. (Maxine) Leftwich III of Washington, D.C.; daughters, June Henton of Atlanta, Ga. and Barbara (Don) Dillon of Baton Rouge, La.; sister, Evelyn Harris; many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Vernon Ave. AME Church, 1127 Mt. Vernon Ave. Reverend Harry Taylor, Officiant. The family will receive friends from 12noon until the time of services. LeBRIE Stephen Joseph LeBrie, husband of Isolde LeBrie and son of the late Stephen LeBrie and Ann LeBrie, died early on February 17, 2001. Steve LeBrie was born in Long Island City, N.Y. He earned his undergraduate degree from Long Island University and received his MA and PhD degrees in physiology from Princeton university. He was a research associate in surgical research at the University of Pennsylvania. Subsequently, he served on the faculty at Tulane University and The Ohio State University. He was the recipient of the Lederle Medical Faculty Award and also listed in the 1965 edition of "Outstanding Young Men of America". He was the author or co-author of no less than 25 scientific publications. Celebrating the memory of his life and mourning his death are: Stephanie (Ted) Compton, Beth Ann LeBrie and their mother Elizabeth LeBrie, Homer Floyd III and Beth Baker, Deborah Baker, Larry Baker, Brian and Maryellen Baker, and Brett Baker; grandchildren, Dan, Alex, Dillon, Brendan, Tonya, Kristina, Daniel, Megan, Floyd, Josh; great-granddaughter, Ashley; and special sister-in-law, Astrida. MEYERS Jane Cannon Meyers, Poway, Calif., died January 12, 2001. Graduate of Upper Arlington High School, Class of 1952 and graduate of O.S.U., Class of 1956, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Jane was a creative director of the publication at the American School of Needlework. She was survived by son, Edward Meyers of Wis.; daughter, Betsy (Keith) Knight and grandson, David of San Diego, Calif.; step-sister, Judy (Charles) Shriner of Columbus; step-brother, Fred (Dottie) Vickers of Cincinnati. McCLELLAN Russell J. McClellan, 66, of Ashville, died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Grant Medical Center, Columbus. Born March 6, 1934 in Columbus, son of the late Samuel M. and Freida E. Cole McClellan. Russell enjoyed playing euchre and was an avid bowler. Survived by wife, Virginia Lee McClellan, Ashville; daughters, Stephanie L. (Ron) Baumann, Lancaster, Consteena J. (Chuck) Donaldson, Sanford, Fla. and Bealynnda K. McClellan, Columbus; step-children, Rick Stiltner, Columbus and Beverly Stiltner, Calif.; grandchildren, Meagan Baumann, Jonathan Baumann and Cory Donaldson; sisters, Dorothy Rhodes and Faith McClellan, both of Tex., Margie Seymour, Logan, Virginia Hemmelspach, Zanesville, and Patty Blair, Sugar Grove; brothers, Gene McClellan, Pleasantsville and LeRoy McClellan, Lancaster; friend, Nancy S. McGINNIS Beatrice V. McGinnis, 89, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, February 15, 2001, at The Ohio State University Hospital. Born to Harry and Anna Thomas, March 20, 1911 in Ross County. A member of Second Baptist Church for many years, worked at OSU and Brown Meat Market for many years. Preceded in death by parents, husband Wendell McGinnis, and three brothers Claude, George and Eugene Thomas. She leaves to mourn her, sisters, Edna Scott and Helen Scott, both of Columbus; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, other relatives and friends. Funeral Service 12 noon Tuesday, February 20, 2001, Second Baptist Church, 186 N. 17th St. Pastor David Carter officiating. Family will receive friends 11 a.m. until time of service. McKINNISS Paul W. McKinniss, age 75, of Jackson, Oh., Friday, February 16, 2001 at his winter residence. Born in Wellston, Oh., September 29, 1925. Retired Quality Manager for Bill Swad Chevy. Member of Evangel Lutheran Church. 32nd Degree Mason, World War II Veteran of the Red Ball Express under General Patton and D.A.V. Post #45. He is survived by wife, Theresa McKinniss of Jackson; son, Paul D. McKinniss of Findlay; two step-sons, Lawrence J. Piwnicki Jr. of New Lenox, Ill. and Randall J. Piwnicki of Grove City; 3 sisters, Doris (Don) Wallar of Upper Arlington, Joan (Grafton) Exline of Jackson and Kay (Fred) Scarberry of Columbus; 4 grandchildren; 3 nephews, Dale (Judy) Exline of Jackson, Dean (Chris) Exline of Wilmington, N.C. and Dana (Jeannie) Exline of Jackson. PARSONS LeRoy Parsons, age 93, of Columbus, died Sunday, February 18, 2001 at Lutheran Village. Preceded in death by brother Willis B. Parsons. Survived by wife, Edna, of 64 years; son, David A. (Martha) Parsons of Bexley; daughter, Jeanne P. (William) Cox of Cincinnati; grandsons, Todd W. Cox and Richard R. Parsons; sister-in-law, Frances Young; niece, Donna Thrush; and nephews, Ronald C. and Larry B. Parsons. Graduate of The Ohio State University and member of the Alumni Association. Served as a Captain in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Former National Traveling Secretary of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, former Executive Vice President of Ohio Association of Realtors and Past President of Ohio Trade Association Executives. Retired after 30 years as a Contract Specialist at Rickenbacker and DFAS. Preceded in death by husband Robert Patterson and sister Joyce Jeffers. Survived by daughters, Debra Patterson and her husband, Keith Murnane of Chicago, and Dona Patterson and Jeff Shoults of Circleville, Oh.; son, Marvin Patterson and his wife, Linda of Columbus; and granddaughter, Colleen Murnane.
